Renin angiotensin system in liver diseases: Friend or foe?

In the last three decades,the understanding of the renin angiotensin system(RAS)has been changed by the discoveries of functional local systems,novel biologically active peptides,additional specific receptors,alternative pathways of angiotensin(Ang)?Ⅱ?generation,and new roles for enzymes and precursor components other than those in Ang?Ⅱ?*** this regard,the discovery that Ang-(1-7)opposes the pressor,proliferative,pro-fibrotic,and pro-inflammatory effects mediated by Ang?Ⅱ?has contributed to the realization that the RAS is composed of two *** first axis consists of the angiotensin-converting enzyme(ACE),with Ang?Ⅱ?as the end product,and the angiotensin type 1(AT1)receptor as the main effector mediating the biological.actions of Ang?Ⅱ.The second axis results from ACE2-mediated hydrolysis of Ang?Ⅱ,l.ading to the production of Ang-(1-7),with the Mas receptor as the main effector conveying the vasodilatory,antiproliferative,anti-fibrotic,and anti-inflammatory effects of Ang-(1-7).Experimental.and clinical studies have shown that both axes of the RAS may take part in the pathogenesis of liver *** this manuscript,we summarize the current evidence regarding the role of RAS in hepatic cirrhosis and its complications,including hemodynamic changes and hepatorenal *** therapeutic potential of the modulation of RAS molecules in liver diseases is also discussed.

We revisit in this work a model for repeating Fast Radio Bursts based of the rel.ase of energy provoked by the magnetic field dynamics affecting a magnetar’s *** address the basics of such a model by solving the propagation of the perturbation approximately,and quantify the energetics and the radiation by bunches of charges in the so-called charge starved region in the ***(almost)simul.aneous emission of newly detected X-rays from SGR 1935+2154 is tentatively associated with a reconnection behind the *** strength of f-mode gravitational radiation excited by the event is quantified,and more detailed studies of the nonlinear(spiky)soliton solutions are suggested.

In the present experimental investigation,Al–3 wt%Cu and Al–3 wt%Cu–0.5 wt%Mg alloys castings are produced by a horizontal solidification technique with a view to examining the interrelationship among growth rate(GR),cooling rate(CR),secondary dendrite arm spacing(λ2),Vickers microhardness(HV),and corrosion behavior in a 0.5 M NaCl *** intermetallic phases of the as-solidified microstructures,that is,h-Al2Cu,S–Al2CuMg,and x-Al7Cu2 Fe,are subjected to a comprehensive characterization by using calculations provided by computational thermodynamics software,optical microscopy,and scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive ***,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization tests have been applied to analyze the corrosion performance of samples of both alloys ***–petch-type equations are proposed to represent the HV dependence onλ*** is shown that the addition of Mg to the Al–Cu alloy has led to a considerable increase in HV;however,the Al–Cu binary alloy is shown to have lower corrosion current density(icorr)as well.as higher polarization resistance as compared to the corresponding results of the Al–Cu–Mg ternary alloy.

poly（lactic acid）（plA）-containing nerve guidance conduits（NGCs） are currently being investigated for nerve repair as an alternative to autograft, which l.ads to permanent functional impairment in the territory innervated by the removed nerve. Combination of polymers modifies the physical properties of the conduits, altering their nerve-guidance properties. Conduits made from plA-only or combined with other polymers have been used successfully for nerve repair, but their efficiency has not been compared. We compared the morphological.and functional outcomes of peripheral nerve repair by using NGCs made of poly（lactic acid） and combined or not with polycaprolactone（plA/pCl） or polyvinylpyrrolidone（plA/pVp）. To assess the functional recovery, we employed a mechanical hyperalgesia analysis, sciatic functional index（SFI）, and electroneuromyography. The mechanical hyperalgesia analysis showed that the plA group improved more rapidly than the plA/pVp and plA/pCl groups; similarly, in the electroneuromyography assay, the plA group exhibited higher amplitude than the plA/pCl.and plA/pVp groups. However, the SFI improvement rates did not differ among the groups. Morphologically, the plA group showed more vascularization, while the nerve fiber regeneration did not differ among the groups. In conclusion, the plA-only conduits were superior to the other NGCs tested for nerve repair.

phylogeographic patterns of endemic species are critical keys to understand its adaptation to future climate ***,based on chloroplast DNA,we analyzed the genetic diversity of two endemic and endangered tree species from the Brazil.an savanna and Atlantic forest(Eremanthus erythropappus and Eremanthus incanus).We also applied the climate-based ecological niche modeling(ENM)to eval.ate the impact of the Quaternary climate(last glacial maximum*21 kyr Bp(thousand years before present)and Mid-Holocene*6 kyr Bp)on the current haplotype ***,we modeled the potential effect of future climate change on the species distribution in 2070 for the most optimistic and pessimistic *** primer/enzyme combination(SFM/HinfI)revealed polymorphism with very low haplotype diversity,showing only three different *** haplotype 1 has very low frequency and it was classified as the oldest,diverging from six mutations from the haplotypes 2 and *** *** populations are structured and differ genetically according to the areas of *** general,the populations located in the north region are genetically different from those located in the *** genetic structuring was observed for *** ENM revealed a large distribution during the past and a severe decrease in geographic distribution of *** and *** from the lGM until present and predicts a drastic decline in suitable areas in the *** reduction may homogenize the genetic diversity and compromise a relevant role of these species on infiltration of groundwater.

Water yield and biomass production for on a eucalypt-dominated Mediterranean catchment under different climate scenarios

Worldwide,forests are vital in the regulation of the water cycle regulation and in water balance *** of ecohydrological responses of production forests is essential to support management strategies,especially where water is already *** climatological patterns are expected to impact thermopluviometric regimes,water cycle components,hydrological responses,and plant physiology,evapotranspiration rates,crop productivity and land management *** work(1)assessed the impacts of different predicted climate conditions on water yield;(2)inferred the impacts of climate change on biomass production on eucalypt-to-eucalypt succes *** this end,the widely accepted Soil.and Water Assessment Tool(SWAT)was run with the RCA,HIRHAM5 and RACMO climate models for two emission scenarios(RCp 4.5 and8.5).Three 12-year periods were considered to simulate tree growth under coppice *** results revealed an overall reduction in streamflow and water yield in the catchment in line with the projected reduction in total.annual ***,HIRHAM5 and RACMO models forecast a slight shift in seasonal streamflow of up to 2 months(for2024-2048)in line with the projected increase in precipitation from May to *** biomass production,the extreme climate model(RCA)and severe emis sion scenario(RCp 8.5)predicted a decrease up to 46%.However,in the less extreme and more-correlated(with actual catchment climate conditions)climate models(RACMO and HIRHAM5)and in the less extreme emission scenario(RCp 4.5),biomass production increased(up to 20%),and the growth cycle was slightly *** was proven to be a val.able tool to assess climate change impacts on a eucalypt-dominated catchment and is a suitable decision-support tool for forest managers.

Denitrification-nitrification process in permeable coastal sediments:An investigation on the effect of salinity and nitrate availability using flow-through reactors

permeable coastal sediments act as a reactive node in the littoral zone,transforming nutrients via a wide range of biogeochemical *** rates are controlled by abiotic factors,e.g.,salinity,temperature or solute ***,a series of incubation experiments,using flow-through reactors,were conducted to simulate the biogeochemical cycling of nitrate (NO_(3)^(-)) and phosphorus(p)in permeable sediments under different NO_(3)^(-) availability conditions(factor I)along a salinity gradient(admixture of river and seawater,factor Ⅱ).In an oligotrophic scenario,i.e.,unamended NO_(3)^(-) concentrations in both river and seawater,sediments acted as a permanent net source of NO_(3)^(-) to the water *** peak production rate occurred at an intermediate salinity(20).IncreasingNO_(3)^(-) availability in river water significantly enhanced netNO_(3)^(-) removal rates within the salinity range of 0 to 30,likely via the denitrification pathway based on the sediment microbiota *** this scenario,the most active removal was obtained at salinity of *** both river and seawater were spiked with NO_(3)^(-),the highest removal rate switched to the highest salinity(36).It suggests the salinity preference of the NO_(3)^(-) removal pathway by local denitrifiers(e.g.,Bacillus and paracoccus)and that NO_(3)^(-) removal in coastal sediments can be significantly constrained by the dilution related NO_(3)^(-) *** with the obtained variation for NO_(3)^(-) reactions,permeable sediments acted as a sink of soluble reactive p in all treatments,regardless of salinity and NO_(3)^(-) input concentrations,indicating a possibility of p-deficiency for coastal water from the intensive cycling in permeable ***,the net production of dissolved organic carbon(DOC)in all treatments was positively correlated with the measured NO_(3)^(-) reaction rates,indicating that the DOC supply may not be the key factor for NO_(3)^(-) removal rates due

Ethyl.and butyl.acetate oxidation over manganese oxides

Mangenese oxides were synthesized using two new methods,a novel solvent‐free reaction and a reflux technique,that produced cryptomelane‐type products(K‐OMS‐2).Oxides were also synthesized using conventional methods and all specimens were applied to the oxidation of ethyl.acetate and butyl.acetate,acting as models for the volatile organic compounds found in industrial *** catalysts were also characterized using N2adsorption,X‐ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,temperature programmed reduction and X‐ray photoelectron *** of the manganese oxides was found to be very active during the oxidation of both esters to CO2,and the synthesis methodology evidently had a significant impact on catalytic *** K‐OMS‐2nanorods synthesized by the solvent‐free method showed higher activity than K‐OMS‐2materials prepared by the reflux technique,and samples with cryptomelane were more active than those prepared by the conventional *** catalyst with the highest performance also exhibited good stability and allowed90%conversion of ethyl.and butyl.acetate to CO2at213and202°C,*** differences in the catalyst performance were observed,cl.arly indicating that K‐OMS‐2nanorods prepared by the solvent‐free reaction were better catalysts for the selected VOC oxidations than the mixtures of manganese oxides traditionally obtained with conventional synthesis *** superior performance of the K‐OMS‐2catalysts might be related to the increased average oxidation state of the manganese in these *** correlations between the catalytic performance and the surface chemical properties were also identified,hig-hlighting the K‐OMS‐2properties associated with the enhanced catalytic performance of the materials.?2018,Dal.an Institute of Chemical physics,Chinese Academy of *** by Elsevier *** rights reserved.
