Evaluation of Different Predictor Models for Detailed Soil Particle-Size Distribution

An accurate mathematical representation of soil particle-size distribution(PSD) is required to estimate soil hydraulic properties or to compare texture measurements using different classification systems. However, many databases do not contain full PSD data,but instead contain only the clay, silt, and sand mass fractions. The objective of this study was to evaluate the abilities of four PSD models(the Skaggs model, the Fooladmand model, the modified Gray model GM(1,1), and the Fredlund model) to predict detailed PSD using limited soil textural data and to determine the effects of soil texture on the performance of the individual PSD *** mean absolute error(MAE) and root mean square error(RMSE) were used to measure the goodness-of-fit of the models, and the Akaike's information criterion(AIC) was used to compare the quality of model fits. The performance of all PSD models except the GM(1,1) improved with increasing clay content in soils. This result showed that the GM(1,1) was less dependent on soil *** Fredlund model was the best for describing the PSDs of all soil textures except in the sand textural class. However, the GM(1,1) showed better performance as the sand content increased. These results indicated that the Fredlund model showed the best performance and the least values of all evaluation criteria, and can be used using limited soil textural data for detailed PSD.

Proactive Load Balancing Mechanism for Fog Computing Supported by Parked Vehicles in IoV-SDN

Internet of Vehicles(IoV)is a new style of vehicular ad hoc network that is used to connect the sensors of each vehicle with each other and with other vehicles’sensors through the *** sensors generate different tasks that should be analyzed and processed in some given period of *** send the tasks to the cloud servers but these sending operations increase bandwidth consumption and *** computing is a simple cloud at the network edge that is used to process the jobs in a short period of time instead of sending them to cloud computing *** some situations,fog computing cannot execute some tasks due to lack of ***,in these situations it transfers them to cloud computing that leads to an increase in latency and bandwidth occupation ***,several fog servers may be fuelled while other servers are *** implies an unfair distribution of *** this research study,we shall merge the software defined network(SDN)with IoV and fog computing and use the parked vehicle as assistant fog computing *** can improve the capabilities of the fog computing layer and help in decreasing the number of migrated tasks to the cloud *** increases the ratio of time sensitive tasks that meet the *** addition,a new load balancing strategy is *** works proactively to balance the load locally and globally by the local fog managers and SDN controller,*** simulation experiments show that the proposed system is more efficient than VANET-Fog-Cloud and IoV-Fog-Cloud frameworks in terms of average response time and percentage of bandwidth consumption,meeting the deadline,and resource utilization.

Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis causes Crohn's disease in some inflammatory bowel disease patients

Crohn’s disease(CD)is a chronic inflammatory condition that plagues millions all over the *** debilitating bowel disease can start in early childhood and continue into late *** and symptoms are usually many and multiple tests are often required for the diagnosis and confirmation of this ***,little is still understood about the cause(s)of *** a result,several theories have been proposed over the *** theory in particular is that Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis(MAP)is intimately linked to the etiology of *** fastidious bacterium also known to cause Johne’s disease in cattle has infected the intestines of animals for *** is believed that due to the thick,waxy cell wall of MAP it is able to survive the process of pasteurization as well as chemical processes seen in irrigation purification *** meat,dairy products and water serve as key vehicles in the transmission of MAP infection to humans(from farm to fork)who have a genetic predisposition,thus leading to the development of *** challenges faced in culturing this bacterium from CD are *** include its extreme slow growth,lack of cell wall,low abundance,and its mycobactin *** this review article,data from 60 studies showing the detection and isolation of MAP by PCR and culture techniques have been *** this review may not be 100%comprehensive of all studies,clearly the majority of the studies overwhelmingly and definitively support the role of MAP in at least30%-50%of CD *** is very possible that lack of detection of MAP from some CD patients may be due to the absence of MAP role in these *** latter statement is conditional on utilization of methodology appropriate for detection of human MAP ***,stratification of CD and inflammatory bowel disease patients for the presence or absence of MAP is necessary for appropriate and effective treatment which may lead to a cure.

Predicting the response of continuous RC deep beams under varying levels of differential settlement

This paper investigates the effect of differential support settlement on shear strength and behavior of continuous reinforced concrete(RC)deep beams.A total of twenty three-dimensional nonlinear finite element models were developed taking into account various constitutive laws for concrete material in compression(crushing)and tension(cracking),steel plasticity(i.e.,yielding and strain hardening),bond-slip at the concrete and steel reinforcement interface as well as unique behavior of spring-like support *** models are first validated by comparing numerical predictions in terms of load-deflection response,crack propagation,reaction distribution,and failure mode against that of measured experimental data reported in *** the developed models were successfully validated,a parametric study was designed and *** parametric study examined number of critical parameters such as ratio and spacing of the longitudinal and vertical reinforcement,compressive and tensile strength of concrete,as well as degree(stiffness)and location of support stiffness to induce varying levels of differential *** study also aims at presenting a numerical approach using finite element simulation,supplemented with coherent assumptions,such that engineers,practitioners,and researchers can carry out simple,but yet effective and realistic analysis of RC structural members undergoing differential settlements due to variety of load actions.

Role of ATG16L,NOD2 and IL23R in Crohn's disease pathogenesis

Inflammatory bowel disease is a group of diseases that includes Crohn＇s disease （CD） and ulcerative colitis. CD is characterized as a chronic inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract, ranging from the mouth to the anus. Although there are gross pathological and histological similarities between CD and Johne＇s dis- ease of cattle, the cause of CD remains controversial. It is vital to understand fully the cause of this disease because it affects approximately 500 000 people in North America and Europe. It ranges from 27 to 48 cases per 100 000 people. There are many theories on the cause of CD ranging from possible association with environmental factors including microorganisms to imbalance in the intestinal normal flora of the pa- tients. Regardless of the environmental trigger, there is strong evidence that a genetic disposition is a major key in acquiring CD. Many studies have proven the link between mutations in the ATG16L, NOD2/CARD15, IBDS, CTLA4, TNFSF15 and IL23R genes, and CD. The purpose of this review is to examine all genetic aspects and theories of CD, including up to date multiple popu- lation studies performed worldwide.

Seamless Handover for IMS over Mobile-IPv6 Using Context Transfer

Uniform modeling of parameter dependent nonlinear systems

This paper addresses the problem of approximating parameter dependent nonlinear systems in a unified framework. This modeling has been presented for the first time in the form of parameter dependent piecewise affine systems. In this model, the matrices and vectors defining piecewise affine systems are affine functions of parameters. Modeling of the system is done based on distinct spaces of state and parameter, and the operating regions are partitioned into the sections that we call 'multiplied simplices'. It is proven that this method of partitioning leads to less complexity of the approximated model compared with the few existing methods for modeling of parameter dependent nonlinear systems. It is also proven that the approximation is continuous for continuous functions and can be arbitrarily close to the original one. Next, the approximation error is calculated for a special class of parameter dependent nonlinear systems. For this class of systems, by solving an optimization problem, the operating regions can be partitioned into the minimum number of hyper-rectangles such that the modeling error does not exceed a specified value. This modeling method can be the first step towards analyzing the parameter dependent nonlinear systems with a uniform method.

The authors evaluated the functional and aesthetic outcomes of upper eyelid cicatricial entropion correction using anterior lamellar recession （ALR） combined with procedures addressing the associated conditions including dermatochalasis, brow ptosis, blepharoptosis, and lid retraction. ALR was carried out for the correction of a mild to moderate upper lid entropion.

Analyzing uncertainties involved in estimating collapse risk with and without considering uncertainty probability distribution parameters

In the present study,modified Ibarra,Medina and Krawinkler moment-rotation parameters are used for modeling the uncertainties in concrete moment frame *** of model parameters in a component and between two structural components were considered to analyze these *** the first step,the structural collapse responses were obtained by producing 281 samples for the uncertainties using the Latin hypercube sampling(LHS)method,considering the probability distribution of the uncertainties and performing incremental dynamic *** the second step,281 new samples were produced for the uncertainties by the central composite design(CCD)method without considering the probability distribution of the uncertainties and calculating the structural collapse ***,using the response surface method(RSM)and artificial neural network(ANN)for the two simulation modes,structural collapse responses were *** results indicated that the collapse responses at levels of 0 to 100%obtained from the two simulations have a high correlation coefficient of 98%.This suggests that random variables can be simulated without considering the probability distribution of uncertainties,by performing uncertainty analysis to determine structural collapse responses.
