OBJECTIVE: To assess the protective effect of dark chocolate(DC) on the letrozole-induced rat model of polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS). METHODS: In this experimental study, 32 female Wistar rats, weighing(200 ± 20) g, were randomly categorized into 4 groups including control, letrozole(1 mg·kg-1·d-1), metformin(500 mg·kg-1·d-1) along with letrozole, and DC(500 mg·kg-1·d-1) along with letrozole for 28 d by oral gavage. Twenty-four hours after the last supplementation, direct blood sampling was taken from the heart to obtain blood serum for evaluation of sex hormones and gonadotropins, oxidative parameters, inflammatory cytokines, and ovarian tissue was examined for histology. RESULTS: The DC treatment significantly improved PCOS signs, as demonstrated by the significant restoration of ovarian morphology and physiological functions as compared with the letrozole group. DC treatment also decreased ovarian interleukin-1β and tumor necrosis factor-α levels and improved total oxidative/antioxidative status as compared with the letrozole group. CONCLUSIONS: Treating the animals with DC could alleviate the PCOS symptoms and reduced the toxic effects of letrozole in the ovary. This effect may mediate through antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties.

Cooperative relaying for a system that consists of different configurations of a collocated and uniform linear antenna is analyzed. The amplify-and-forward relaying (AF) and selection combining (S-AF) schemes based on maximal ratio combining (MRC) method for single- and multi-relay are investigated. In this study, the bit-error-rate (BER) expression for collocated and uniform linear antenna in cooperative communication system over flat Rayleigh fading channel is derived. The result for 3-element collocated antennas (tripole) shows improvement in performance over dual-polarized antennas. also increasing number of tripole antenna does not add improvement.

Deep eutectic solvents(DESs)have drawn a growing research interest for applications in a wide range of scientific and industrial ***,a limited effort has been reported in the area of gas separation processes and particularly the carbon dioxide *** study introduces a novel set of DESs that were prepared by complexing ethylenediamine(EDA),monoethanolamine(MEA),tetraethylenepentamine(TEPA),triethylenetetramine(TETA)and diethylenetriamine(DETA)as hydrogen bond donors to monoethanolamide hydrochloride(EAHC)salt as a hydrogen bond *** absorption capacity of CO2 was evaluated by exploiting a method based on measuring the pressure drop during the absorption *** solubility of different DESs was studied at a temperature of 313.15 K and initial pressure of 0.8 *** DES systems 1 EAHC:9 DETA,1 EAHC:9 TETA and 1 EAHC:9 TEPA achieved the highest CO2 solubility of 0.6611,0.6572 and 0.7017 mol CO2·(mole DES)-1 *** results showed that CO2 solubility in the DESs increased with increasing the molar ratio of hydrogen bond *** addition,the CO2 solubility increased as the number of amine groups in the solvent increases,therefore,increasing the alkyl chain length in the DESs,resulted in increasing the CO2 *** analysis confirms the DES synthesis since no new functional group was *** FTIR spectra also revealed the carbamate formation in DES-CO2 *** addition,the densities and viscosities of the synthesized DESs were also *** CO2 initial investigation of reported DESs shows that these can be potential alternative for conventional solvents in CO2 capture processes.

Reliable field data for all hydrologic parameters are often unavailable for watersheds even for those intensively *** the absence of reliable such data,verified mathematical relations for an area can be used for other areas with same hydrologic and climatic *** objectives of this research were:1) to assess the total runoff and sediment loss,and 2) to develop rainfall,runoff and soil loss relations for four prominent landuses(including degraded,pasture,forest and agriculture lands) in the Hilkot watershed(Pakistan).Four experimental natural runoff plots were established on the landuses (degraded,pasture,forest and agriculture land).The field study and data collection were conducted in the Hilkot watershed from 1999 to *** analysis was conducted to establish relations among rainfall,runoff and soil loss for all landuses *** analysis indicated good correlation with field data.

In certain areas of the Hindu Kush-Himalayas（HKH）,ecological situation is depleting day by day and approaching to the point of no return through gradual environmental *** soil erosion from most of the areas is a serious threat to sustainable agriculture and sediment accumulation in down stream *** extensive study in the Hilkot watershed,a catchment of Terbala Dam, was started by the People and Resource Dynamics Project in *** objectives of this study were to calculate annual runoff and soil losses from different land uses and compare their seasonal distribution at plot *** experimental plots based on land use classification（***, forests,agricultural,and pasture lands）were *** falls in the monsoon region,about 38% rainfall occurred in the monsoon period（July to September）,while in the pre-monsoon（March to June）and the winter period（October to February）received 35%and 27%of the total rainfall, *** annual rainfall in the watershed was 1160 *** runoff and soil loss pattern varied among different land use *** all the erosion plots,almost 50%of the runoff and soil loss occurred during the monsoon period and was negligible during *** mean maximum runoff was from the degraded plot（674 m;/ha/y）,while minimum was observed from the pasture plot（310 m;/ha/y）.Average runoffs on other land uses were 529 and 460 m;/ha/y,from the forest and agriculture plots,*** soil loss from all land uses ranged between 0.3 to 16.3 t/ha. Average maximum soil loss was recorded from the degraded plot（6.5 t/ha/y）and average minimum （1.8 t/ha/y）was on the pasture ***,average soil from other plots was 3.3 and 3.4 t/ha/y, measured from the forest and agricultural plots,respectively.

Autism spectrum disorders(ASD)comprise a group of neurodevelopmental abnormalities that begin in early childhood and are characterized by impairment of social communication and behavioral problems including restricted interests and repetitive *** genes have been implicated in the pathogenesis of ASD,most of them are involved in neuronal synaptogenesis.A number of environmental factors and associated conditions such as gastrointestinal(gI)abnormalities and immune imbalance have been linked to the pathophysiology of *** to the March 2012 report released by United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,the prevalence of ASD has sharply increased during the recent years and one out of 88 children suffers now from ASD *** there is a strong genetic base for the disease,several associated factors could have a direct link to the pathogenesis of ASD or act as modifiers of the genes thus aggravating the initial *** children suffering from ASD have gI problems such as abdominal pain,chronic diarrhea,constipation,vomiting,gastroesophag.al reflux,and intestinal infections.A number of studies focusing on the intestinal mucosa,its permeability,abnormal gut development,leaky gut,and other gI problem raised many questions but studies were somehow inconclusive and an expert panel of American Academy of Pediatrics has strongly recommended further investigation in these *** tract has a direct connection with the immune system and an imbalanced immune response is usually seen in ASD *** infection or autoimmune diseases have been *** of the immune system during early development may have deleterious effect on various organs including the nervous *** this review we revisited briefly the gI and immune system abnormalities and neuropeptide imbalance and their role in the pathophysiology of ASD and discussed some future research directions.

Essential oils used in aromatherapy: A systemic review

Nowadays, use of alternative and complementary therapies with mainstream medicine has gained the momentum. Aromatherapy is one of the complementary therapies which use essential oils as the major therapeutic agents to treat several diseases. The essential or volatile oils are extracted from the flowers, barks, stem, leaves, roots, fruits and other parts of the plant by various methods. It came into existence after the scientists deciphered the antiseptic and skin permeability properties of essential oils. Inhalation, local application and baths are the major methods used in aromatherapy that utilize these oils to penetrate the human skin surface with marked aura. Once the oils are in the system, they remodulate themselves and work in a friendly manner at the site of malfunction or at the affected area. This type of therapy utilizes various permutation and combinations to get relief from numerous ailments like depression, indigestion, headache, insomnia, muscular pain, respiratory problems, skin ailments, swollen joints, urine associated complications etc. The essential oils are found to be more beneficial when other aspects of life and diet are given due consideration. This review explores the information available in the literature regarding therapeutic, medical, cosmetic, psychological, olfactory, massage aromatherapy, safety issues and different plants used in aromatherapy. all the available information was compiled from electronic databases such as Academic Journals, Ethnobotany, google Scholar, PubM ed, Science Direct, Web of Science, and library search.

An algorithm is proposed for scheduling dependent tasks in time-varying heterogeneous multiprocessor systems, in which computational power and links between processors are allowed to change over time. Link contention is considered in the multiprocessor scheduling problem. A linear switching-state space-modeling paradigm is introduced to enable theoretical analysis from a system engineering perspective. Theoretical analysis of this model shows its robustness against changes in processing power and link failure. The proposed algorithm uses a fuzzy decision-making procedure to handle changes in the multiprocessor system. The efficiency of the proposed algorithm is illustrated by several random experiments and comparison against a recent benchmark approach. The results show up to 18% average improvement in makespan, especially for larger scale systems.

Pollution of water resources with pesticide compounds has raised serious environmental problems,and for photocatalytic degradation of these pollutants,thin film photocatalysts are preferred to colloidal ones due to the separation problem of colloidal *** this work,nanostructured TiO_2 and N-doped TiO_2 thin films with high transparency were deposited on glass and quartz substrates through sonochemical–chemical vapor deposition(CVD)*** films prepared on glass and quartz substrates had nanocubic and nanospherical morphology,*** presence of N atoms in the structure of TiO_2 resulted in a decrease in the band gap energy of TiO_2 and also in the reduction of photogenerated electron–hole recombination ***,the presence of N atoms induced the formation of Ti^(3+)species which can act as hole trapping *** prepared thin films were also used for the visible light photocatalytic degradation of paraoxon *** to these results among the prepared thin films,the N-doped TiO_2 thin films have higher photocatalytic activity than pure TiO_2 thin ***,in comparison with the thin films deposited on quartz substrate,the films on glass substrate have higher photocatalytic performance,which can be related to the special nanocubic morphology of these samples.

Impact of repeated loading on mechanical response of a reinforced sand

Pavements constructed over loosely compacted subgrades may not possess adequate California bearing ratio (CBR) to meet the requirements of pavement design codes,which may lead to a thicker pavement design for addressing the required *** have been proven to be effective for mitigating the adverse mechanical behaviors of weak soils as integrated constituents of base and sub-base layers in road *** study investigated the behaviors of unreinforced and reinforced sand with nonwoven geotextile using repeated CBR loading test (followed by unloading and reloading).The depth and number of geotextile reinforcement layers,as well as the compaction ratio of the soil above and below the reinforcement layer(s) and the compaction ratio of the sand bed,were set as variables in this *** layers were placed at upper thickness ratios of 0.3,0.6 and 0.9 and the lower thickness ratio of *** compaction ratios of the upper layer and the sand bed varied between 85% and 97% to simulate a dense layer on a medium dense sand bed for all unreinforced and reinforced testing *** CBR loading tests were conducted to the target loads of 100 kgf,150 kgf,200 kgf and 400 kgf,respectively (1 kgf=9.8 N).The results indicated that placing one layer of reinforcement with an upper thickness ratio of 0.3 and compacting the soil above the reinforcement to compaction ratio of 97% significantly reduced the penetration of the CBR piston for all target repeated load ***,using two layers of reinforcement sandwiched between two dense soil layers with a compaction ratio of 97% with upper and lower thickness ratios of 0.3 resulted in the lowest penetration.
