Method to measure tree-ring width,density,elemental composition,and stable carbon and oxygen isotopes using one sample

Tree-ring width(RW),density,elemental com-position,and stable carbon and oxygen isotope(δ^(13)C,δ^(18)O)are widely used as proxies to assess climate change,ecology,and environmental pollution;however,a specific pretreat-ment has been needed for each ***,we developed a method by which each proxy can be measured in the same ***,the sample is polished for ring width *** obtaining the ring width data,the sample is cut to form a 1-mm-thick wood *** sample is then mounted in a vertical sample holder,and gradually scanned by an X-ray ***,the count rates of the fluorescent photons of elements(for chemical characteriza-tion)and a radiographic grayscale image(for wood density)are obtained,*** density and the element content are ***,cellulose is isolated from the 1-mm wood plate by removal of lignin,and *** producing this cellulose plate,cellulose subsamples are separated by knife under the microscope for inter-annual and intra-annual stable carbon and oxygen isotope(δ^(13)C,δ^(18)O)*** on this method,RW,density,elemental composition,δ^(13)C,and δ^(18)O can be measured from the same sample,which reduces sample amount and treatment time,and is helpful for multi-proxy comparison and combination research.

Preconsolidation pressure(σp)of soil can be considered as an indicator of the Load Bearing Capacity(LBC),which is the tolerated surface pressure before compaction,often caused by the traffic of agricultural *** this pioneering study,a remote sensing approach was introduced to estimate LBC throughσp from soils of the“Rio Preto”Hydrographic Basin,Bahia State,Brazil,in a monthly time lapse from 2016 to ***,σp is measured by a laborious and time demanding laboratory analysis,making it unfeasible to map large *** innovative methodology of this work consists of combining active–passive satellite data on soil moisture and pedotransfer functions of clay content and water matric potential to obtain geo-located estimates ofσ*** were analysed under different classes of soil use,land cover and slope;95%confidence intervals were built for the time series of mean values of LBC for each *** overall seasonal variation in LBC estimates is similar in areas with annual crops,grasslands and natural vegetation,and flat areas are less affected by soil moisture variations over the year(between seasons).LBC decreased,in general,at about 0.5%a year in flat ***,these areas demand attention,since they occupy 86%of the Basin and are mostly subjected to agricultural soil management and surface pressure by heavy machinery.

次生生物气与地下水之间存在一定的关系，特别是在煤层气等天然气储层中，了解地下水与次生生物成因甲烷之间的关系对于天然气勘探和开发具有重要意义。基于中国沁水盆地6个区块的57个煤层气井排采水和3个河水样品的化学组成、氢氧同位素组成(δ18OH2O和δDH2O)和溶解无机碳(DIC)碳同位素组成(δ13CDIC和Δ14CDIC)，深入剖析了地下水与次生生物成因甲烷之间的复杂关系。研究结果表明：氢氧同位素分布在大气降水线附近，煤层气井排采水主要来源于大气降雨，硫酸盐微生物还原作用是郑庄和阳泉区块氘同位素富集的主要原因。研究区煤层气井排采水化学组成以Na-HCO3型为主，其变化受到水—岩相互作用、阳离子交换等过程的控制。沁水盆地6个研究区块煤层气井排采水的稳定碳同位素呈现高δ13CDIC值(-4.19‰～34.80‰，平均为16.51‰)、且与溶解无机碳含量呈明显正相关关系可能是微生物产甲烷作用的结果。煤层气井排采水中δ13CDIC与SO42-的负相关性以及δDH2O正漂移等指标也指向沁水盆地不同成熟度煤岩中次生生物成因甲烷的广泛存在。δ13CDIC与镜质体反射率(ROmax)的负相关性进一步表明沁水盆地不同成熟度煤层中广泛存在次生生物成因甲烷，且在浅埋藏和成熟度较低的煤层中最为显著。地球化学与微生物学的结合将会进一步阐明次生生物甲烷的形成途径和机制。

Background: The management of breast cancer increasingly requires molecular classification based on immunohistochemistry. As breast cancer is a heterogeneous disease characterized by the accumulation of multiple molecular alterations that give each tumour its own phenotype and evolutionary potential, immunohistochemistry, as a complementary technique to morphological examination, determines the status of hormone receptors and on protein in tumour cells, which are predictive and prognostic markers of breast cancer. This technique is often little used in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), as this study shows. The under-use of this technique due to a lack of equipment and/or human skills explains the paucity of epidemiological data available to date. Objective: Determine the immunohistochemical profile of breast cancer. Methodology: This is a retrospective study carried out in the Anapath Department of the NGANDA Hospital from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022, i.e. a 3-year period. Result: A total of 736 patients were registered in the hospitalization register of the Oncology Department of CH NGANDA for the period corresponding to the present study. Breast cancer was diagnosed in 110 patients, representing 14.9% of all cases. The mean age of the patients was 58.4 ± 8.2 years, with extremes ranging from 30 to 76 years. Breast nodules were the most common reason for diagnosis in 56.3% of cases, with Luminal A dominating in 17.3%. Conclusion: Breast cancer is a major public health problem. Worldwide, it is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in women and the leading cause of cancer-related death in women. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, because of the delay in consulting our patients and the weakness of systematic screening, patients are seen at an advanced stage of the disease. Despite some efforts and attempts have been made to improve the direction-of-arrival(DOA)estimation performance of the standard Capon beamformer(SCB)in array processing,rigorous statistical performance analyses of these modified Capon estimators are still *** paper studies an improved Capon estimator(ICE)for estimating the DOAs of multiple uncorrelated narrowband signals,where the higherorder inverse(sample)array covariance matrix is used in the Capon-like cost *** establishing the relationship between this nonparametric estimator and the parametric and classic subspace-based MUSIC(multiple signal classification),it is clarified that as long as the power order of the inverse covariance matrix is increased to reduce the influence of signal subspace components in the ICE,the estimation performance of the ICE becomes equivalent to that of the MUSIC regardless of the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR).Furthermore the statistical performance of the ICE is analyzed,and the large-sample mean-squared-error(MSE)expression of the estimated DOA is *** the effectiveness and the theoretical analysis of the ICE are substantiated through numerical examples,where the Cramer-Rao lower bound(CRB)is used to evaluate the validity of the derived asymptotic MSE expression.

Flow fields control for bubble refinement induced by electromagnetic fields

Large bubbles seriously reduce the efficiencies of the interactions between the bubbles and the molten steel,such as energy transfer,momentum transfer,mass transfer and chemical *** reduce the size of the bubbles and increase the gas–liquid interface area,a novel non-intrusive method of bubble refinement was proposed,which only depends on the molten steel flow field controlled by the rotating electromagnetic *** flow fields of the molten steel for bubble refinement were analyzed,and the corresponding bubble refinement was *** was found that the molten steel formed obvious rotating turbulent flow for bubble refinement under the unidirectional rotating electromagnetic ***,the large vortex in the center of the molten pool caused by the rotating flow made the bubbles aggregate and coalesce again,resulting in formation of larger bubbles and gas *** suppress the central vortex formation and enhance the bubble refinement,the forward-reverse rotating electromagnetic field for bubble refinement was *** irregular and chaotic flow occurred repeatedly because of alternating forward and reverse rotating in a short period,so that the turbulent kinetic energy and turbulent dissipation of the flow field always remained at a high level which favors bubble *** a result,the bubble diameter can decrease by more than 50%compared to that without electromagnetic ***,it is important that this non-intrusive kind of bubble refinement method completely avoids the introduction of non-metallic inclusions caused by intrusive configuration.

Degassing of deep-sourced CO_(2) from Xianshuihe-Anninghe fault zones in the eastern Tibetan Plateau

A large number of gases are releasing from the medium-high temperature geothermal fields distributed along the large-scale strike-slip fault zones in the southeastern margin of the Tibetan *** this study,11 hot spring water and the associated bubbling gas samples were collected along the Xianshuihe-Anninghe fault zones(XSH-ANHFZ)and analyzed for chemical and isotopic *** δ^(18)_(H_(2)O) and δD_(H_(2)O) values indicate that hot spring waters are predominantly meteoric origin recharged from different *** water samples are significantly enriched in Na^(+) and HCO_(3) due to the dissolution of regional evaporites,carbonates and Na-silicates.^(3)He/^(4)He ratios of the gas samples are 0.025-2.73 times the atmospheric *** ^(3)He/^(4)He ratios are high in the Kangding region where the dense faults are distributed,and gradually decrease with increasing distance from Kangding towards both sides along the Xianshuihe fault zones(XSHFZ).Hydrothermal fluids have dissolved inorganic carbon(DIC)concentrations from 2 to 42 mmol L^(-1),δ^(13)C_(DIC) from -6.9‰ to 1.3‰,δ^(13)C_(CO_(2)) from -7.2‰ to -3.6‰ and Δ^(14)C from -997‰ to -909‰.Combining regional geochemical and geological information,the CO_(2)sources can be attributed to deep-sourced CO_(2)from mantle and metamorphism of marine carbonate,and shallow-sourced CO_(2)from the dissolution of marine carbonate and biogenic CO_(2).The mass balance model shows that 11±6% of the DIC is sourced from the dissolution of shallow carbonate minerals,9±8% formed by pyrolysis of sedimentary organic matter,80±9% derived from deep metamorphic origin and mantle-derived CO_(2).Among them,the deep-sourced CO_(2)in Anninghe fault zones(ANHFZ)is merely metamorphic carbon,whereas ca.12% and ca.88% of the deep-sourced CO_(2)in the XSHFZ are derived from the mantle and metamorphic carbon,*** average deep-sourced CO_(2)flux in the Kangding geothermal field is estimated to be 160 ta^(-1).If all the hot

Experimental Research of External Desulfurization in Situ Mechanical Stirring

This paper presents a new idea about desulfurization with in-situ mechanical stirring method on the basis of desulfurization by single blow grain magnesium and KR method, that is, the inner gases carry the magnesium vapor formed in-site in molten iron by magnesium-based desulfurization, and bubble dispersed and disintegrated under the condition of mechanical stirring, thence to improve the efficiency of desulfurization by single blow grain magnesium .It has been proved by research of cold water model experiment that the bubble dispersion and disintegration can not only improve the desulphurization efficiency but also increase the utilization rate of magnesium. Obviously, the bubble dispersion and disintegration of magnesium vapor is the key problem in improving the desulphurization efficiency and increasing the utilization rate of magnesium. Thus the research focus on exploring the performance of bubble dispersion and disintegration on the base of refining process and gas-liquid mass transfer. According to the literature and cold water model experimental result basing on principle of similitude, the influencing factors and interaction of bubble dispersion and disintegration have been studied from the perspectives of physical and numerical simulation. The study would provide the theoretical and experimental data for the new method of desulfurization with in-situ mechanical stirring.
