In this paper,we examine if COVID-19 has impacted the relationship between oil prices and stock returns predictions using daily Japanese stock market data from 01/04/2020 to 03/17/*** make a novel contribution to the literature by testing whether the COVID-19 pandemic has changed this predictability *** an empirical model that controls for seasonal effects,return-related control variables,heteroskedasticity,persistency,and endogeneity,we demonstrate that the influence of oil prices on stock returns declined by around 89.5%due to *** implies that when COVID-19 reduced economic activity and destabilized financial markets,the influence of oil prices on stock returns *** finding could have implications for trading strategies that rely on oil prices.

A β-Ti dendrite reinforced Zr-based bulk metallic glass composite(BMGC) was found to be brittle when cast in a large size. The reasons for the embrittlement and the effectiveness of the cryothermal cycling(CTC) treatment in restoring the mode I fracture toughness are examined. Plasticity in all the CTC treated BMGC is estimated from the distribution and occurrence of pop-ins in nanoindentation tests and by measuring the magnitude of enthalpy of relaxation(△H_(rel)) via differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). This is further validated by examining the strain-to-failure(ε_(f)) in compression tests. Mode I fracture behaviour of the as-cast embrittled BMGC and the CTC treated BMGC, which exhibits maximum plasticity, is examined. Results show that both BMGCs are equally brittle and exhibit 5 times lower notch toughness(K_(QJ))than their tougher counterpart. Post-facto imaging of the side surfaces reveals the absence of notch-tip plasticity in both BMGCs. The lack of notch tip plasticity of CTC treated BMGC, despite exhibiting signatures of plasticity in nanoindentation and higher △Hrelis rationalized by reassessing the origin of pop-ins in nanoindentation tests and describing the variations in chemical and topological short range ordering during CTC, respectively. Implications of these results in terms of improving the fracture toughness of structurally relaxed BMGCs via CTC are discussed.

Objective:To investigate the impact of the most potent petroleum ether extract of Artemisia annua(***) and Azadirachta indica(***) on total carbohydrate,lipid and protein level of Anopheles stephensi and Culex quinquefasciatus ***:Mosquito larvae were exposed to the extracts selected as per standard WHO ***(glucose),total lipid and protein were estimated by the methods as Nelson,Bragdon and Lowry described, ***:The glucose levels were increased to 27.87%and 46.8%,respectively in anopheline larval tissues after treatment with petroleum ether extract of *** and methanolic extract of *** culicine larvae,glucose levels were reduced to 58.96%and 24.65%, *** treatment with *** extract,lipid contents in anopheline and culicine larvae decreased by 28.57%and 25.0%,respectively and increased by 14.29%and 50.00%in the Anopheles and Culex larvae,respectively after treatment with methanolic extract of Az. *** protein levels were reduced to 63.13%and 92.62%in anopheline and to 32.39%and 48.12%in culicine larvae after treatment with *** and *** extracts,respectively. Conclusions:Two extracts produce significant alterations in the biochemical pr of iles of anopheline and culicine ***,the impacting factors of extracts on carbohydrate,lipid and protein contents of larvae are species and specific *** indicates the disturbed metabolic activity of the larvae.

There has been increasing interest over recent years in the application of three-dimensional(3 D) printing technologies in the biomedical field. One such method is Direct Ink Writing(DIW); this approach has the potential advantage of allowing room-temperature deposition of materials, presented as an ink, to build complex architectures. DIW offers the ability to process biomaterials containing temperature-sensitive components. Due to the fabrication principles of DIW, there are specific rheological requirements that the ink must exhibit for the 3 D construction. For this reason, hydrogel-based liquid feed stocks have been the focal point of ink development. As a consequence, studies based on inks comprising hydrophobic biomaterials, which are insoluble in water and hence unsuited to the hydrogel approach, have been *** this study, we investigate novel inks that utilize polycaprolactone(PCL), a hydrophobic polymer, as the primary constituent by dissolving the polymer in solvent systems based on dichloromethane(DCM) and acetone(ACE). Moreover, polyethylene oxide(PEO) was incorporated into the PCL systems in order to extend the range of hydrophilicity of the systems. The rheological properties of the inks were investigated as a function of polymer composition and solvent system. Woodpile constructs of PCL and PCL/PEO were fabricated using DIW method and were assessed by a series of material characterisation. The type of solvent system had a noticeable impact on the ink rheology, which ultimately affected the surface properties. The incorporation of PEO particularly enhanced the roughness and wettability of the constructs. Our results support the use of DIW as a new means to process hydrophobic polymers for biomedical applications.

Graphene oxide(GO) was synthesized and characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX), atomic force microscopy(AFM), X-ray diffraction(XRD), Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) and thermogravimetric analysis(TGA). GO was then electrochemically reduced and used for electrochemical study of mycophenolate mofetil(MMF). The electrochemically reduced graphene oxide(ERGO) film on glassy carbon electrode(GCE) showed enhanced peak current for electrooxidation of MMF. MMF exhibited two irreversible oxidation peaks at 0.84 V(peak a_1)and 1.1 V(peak a_2). Effects of accumulation time, pH and scan rate were studied and various electrochemical parameters were calculated. A differential pulse voltammetric method was developed for the determination of MMF in bulk samples and pharmaceutical formulations. Linear relationship was observed between the peak current and concentration of MMF in the range of 40 nM–15 μM with a limit of detection of 11.3 nM. The proposed method is simple, sensitive and inexpensive and, hence, could be readily adopted in clinical and quality control laboratories.

Recovery of cellulose fibres from paper mill effluent has been studied using common polysacchatides or biopolymers such as Guar gum, Xanthan gum and Locust bean gum as flocculent. Guar gum is commonly used in sizing paper and routinely used in paper making. The results have been compared with the performance of alum, which is a common coagulant and a key ingredient of the paper industry. Guar gum recovered about 3.86 mg/L of fibre and was most effective among the biopolyrners. Settling velocity distribution curves demonstrated that Guar gum was able to settle the fibres faster than the other biopolymers; however, alum displayed the highest particle removal rate than all the biopolymers at any of the settling velocities. Alum, Guar gum, Xanthan gum and Locust bean gum removed 97.46%, 94.68%, 92.39% and 92.46% turbidity of raw effluent at a settling velocity of 0.5 cm/min, respectively. The conditions for obtaining the lowest sludge volume index such as pH, dose and mixing speed were optimised for guar gum which was the most effective among the biopolymers. Response surface methodology was used to design all experiments, and an optimum operational setting was proposed. The test results indicate similar performance of alum and Guar gum in terms of fioc settling velocities and sludge volume index. Since Guar gum is a plant derived natural substance, it is environmentally benign and offers a green treatment option to the paper mills for pulp recycling.

High-altitude Himalayan lakes act as natural storage for environmental evidence related to climate change and environmental factors.A great number of lakes are distributed in the southern slope area of the central Himalayas;however,research concerning the hydrochemical processes of these lakes is still ***,we present a comprehensive study on the water chemistry of the lake waters and the inlet stream waters from Rara Lake in western Nepal based upon samples collected in November *** p H,dissolved oxygen,chlorophyll-aconcentration(chl-a),water temperature,electric conductivity(EC)and total dissolved solids(TDS)were measured in situ,and the concentrations of major ions(Ca^(2+),Mg^(2+),K^(+),Na^(+),Cl^(-),SO_(4)^(2-),and NO_(3)^(-))were analyzed in the *** results revealed that the water in Rara Lake is slightly alkaline,with p H values ranging from *** cations,in decreasing order of concentration in the lake water,are Ca^(2+)>Mg^(2+)>K^(+)>Na^(+)with average concentrations of20.64 mg·L^(-1),11.78 mg·L^(-1),1.48 mg·L^(-1) and 0.72 mg·L^(-1),respectively;the order and concentrations for the anions is HCO_(3)^(-)>SO_(4)^(2-)>Cl^(-)>NO_(3)^(-),with average concentrations of 122.15 mg·L-1,2.15 mg·L-1,0.46mg·L-1 and 0.55 mg·L-1,*** dominant cation and anion in the lake water are Ca2+and HCO3-and they account for 48.14%and 71.8%of the totals,*** range of lake water TDS is from 95mg·L^(-1) to 98 mg·L^(-1),with an average of 96.85 mg·L^(-1).The high ratio of(Ca^(2+)+Mg^(2+))to total cations and the low ratio of(Na^(+)+K^(+))to total cations indicate that Rara Lake receives ions from rock weathering,especially from carbonate ***,Gibbs boomerang diagrams and Piper diagrams also support the hydrochemistry of Rara Lake as being dominated by rock-weathering ***,other statistical analysis tools,such as Principal Component Analysis(PCA)and correlation strongly suggest the dominance of weather
