High-altitude tree growth responses to climate change across the Hindu Kush Himalaya

Aims Rapid warming at high altitudes may lead to a higher sensitivity in tree growth to *** key factors constraining tree radial growth and to what extent regional tree growth has suffered from climatic changes are *** Tree-ring width data were collected from 73 sites across the Hindu Kush Himalaya(HKH),including three dominant genera(Abies,Juniperus and Picea)at high altitudes over 3000 *** time warping was introduced to develop subregional chronologies by considering the synchrony of annual tree growth among different *** quantified the contribution of the climate variables,and analyzed the spatiotemporal variation of the growth–climate *** Findings The site chronologies were grouped into three clusters,corresponding to the three distinct bioclimatic zones,*** western HKH,central-eastern HKH and southeastern Tibetan Plateau(TP).Tree growth was positively correlated to winter and spring precipitation in the drier western HKH,and to winter temperature and spring precipitation in the humid southeastern *** growth was markedly constrained by the minimum temperature,especially in winter,with its importance increasing from the west toward the *** shown by moving correlation analysis,the signal of winter temperature in tree growth was weakened in the western and central-eastern HKH,while it was enhanced in the southeastern TP following rapid warming since the *** results highlight that continuous warming may cause forest recession due to warming-induced moisture deficit in the western HKH,but forest expansion in the southeastern TP.

Mediastinal and Pericardial Hydatidosis—A Case Report and Review of Literature

Hydatid disease caused by Echinococcus granulosus is endemic in Indian subcontinent and a common surgical problem. Although occurrence of hydatid cyst is common in liver and lungs, it can be encountered in almost every part of the body. Combined mediastinal and pericardial hydatid disease is a rare occurrence and only a few cases have been reported in the literature. Patients with hydatid cysts are usually asymptomatic. Our case report demonstrates a 57-year-old female patient who presented with chest pain and dyspnea on exertion for few months duration. Detailed imaging and laboratory investigation revealed a pericardial and mediastinal hydatid cyst. The patient underwent operation for curative excision. After surgery, the patient’s symptoms resolved and his clinical status improved.

Nutrient Release from Immersed Foliar Biomass during Caruachi Dam Reservoir Filling: Caroni River, Venezuela

Background: Decomposition process controls the release and the availability of essential nutrients, which affects the structure and the functioning of plant communities. Freshwater reservoirs are largely known to have impacts on the water quality, especially during the first phases of filling. The aim of the study was to conduct a nutrient release experiment where decomposition of fresh leaves and litter from vegetation of a low dry tropical forest was flooded. Selected species were Leguminosae species Albizia glabripetala (H. S. Irwin) G. P. Lewis & P. E. Owen (AG), Bauhinia aculeata L. (BA), Centrolobium paraense Tul. (CP) and Piptadenia leucoxyllon Barneby & J. W. Grimes (PL). Freshwater decomposition experiments were carried out at 50 cm depth inside nine floating containers in a protected area of the reservoir: litter (HJ), leaves of AG and BA (E2), and CP and PL (E3) were used. It was over 20 weeks period. Every week for two months and at week 20, a bag of each sample was extracted for analysis of Carbon, Ca, Mg, Na, K, P and S. Results: Results indicate that residual dry mass decreased by 71% for HJ, 81.4% for E2, and more than 86.8% for E3 after twenty weeks. The higher content of carbon (%) at the beginning of the experiment was E2 > E3 > HJ. After 20 weeks, the percentage of carbon loss was 2.09% for HJ, 3.02% for E2, and 1.69% for E3. S decreased between 50% - 60% during the first week;at 20 weeks, the remaining amount of S was 13% for HJ and E3 and 7% for E2. P showed a different pattern, where the second week was more important for the release. HJ and E3 followed the pattern of nutrient release: K > Mg > Na > Ca while E2 was K > Ca > Mg > Na. Conclusions: P and S release depends on the time of submergence and the species. Fresh leaves decay faster than necromass. Objective:Extramammary Paget’s disease(EMPD)is a rare cutaneous malignant *** to its rarity,there is a paucity of data regarding best treatment *** primarily affects apocrine gland-bearing skin areas such as the vulva,scrotum,and *** objective was to provide a present-day rationale for diagnosis,pathogenesis,and treatment of EMPD with a focus on recent progress in workup and management of the ***:Literature on EMPD until February 2022 was assessed through PubMed,MEDLINE databases,and Google scholar.A narrative review of the most relevant articles was ***:EMPD usually presents with indolent growth while usually being diagnosed primarily as carcinoma in *** foundation of EMPD treatment centers around prompt and accurate diagnosis,wide local or Mohs micrographic surgical excision with proper management towards the margin status,and careful consideration for lymphadenectomy in patients with regionally positive *** chemotherapies are alternative treatments modality for patients with distant metastases;however,they sometimes have suboptimal *** present,there is no agreement regarding adjuvant or systemic therapies,although recent studies have shown several insights into the molecular pathogenesis,tumor biology,and genomics of the development and advancement of EMPD,which may lead to novel and targeted treatment approaches for metastatic EMPD in the ***:Patients with EMPD should seek care from physicians with expertise in disease management and patient *** patients should be surveilled with close follow-up to evaluate them for disease recurrence or *** collaborations with groups such as the Global Society for Rare Genitourinary Tumors,and especially patient support groups are crucial in designing clinical trials to help elucidate more robust data in this orphan disease.

Fabrication and study of supercapacitor electrodes based on oxygen plasma functionalized carbon nanotube fibers

Dry-spun Carbon Nanotube(CNT)fibers were surface-modified by atmospheric pressure oxygen plasma functionalization using a well controlled and continuous *** fibers were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM),Raman spectroscopy,and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy(XPS).It was found from the conducted electrochemical measurements that the functionalized fibers showed a 132.8% increase in specific capacitance compared to non-functionalized ***-adsorption test and the obtained Randles-Sevcik plot demonstrated that the oxygen plasma functionalized fibers exhibited increased surface *** was further established by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller(BET)measurements that the surface area of the CNT fibers was increased from 168.22 m^2/g to 208.01 m^2/g after plasma *** pore size distribution of the fibers was also altered by this *** improved electrochemical data was attributed to enhanced wettability,increased surface area,and the presence of oxygen functional groups,which promoted the capacitance of the *** supercapacitors were fabricated from the oxygen plasma functionalized CNT fiber electrodes using different electrolyte *** devices with functionalized electrodes exhibited excellent cyclic stability(93.2% after 4000 cycles),flexibility,bendability,and good energy *** 0.5 m A/cm^2,the EMIMBF4 device revealed a specific capacitance,which is 27% and 65%greater than the specific capacitances of devices using EMIMTFSI and H2SO4 electrolytes,*** practiced in this work plasma surface processing can be employed in other applications where fibers,yarns,ribbons,and sheets need to be chemically modified.

In this paper, the problem of robust absolute stability of Lurie system with probabilistic time-varying delay and normbounded parametric uncertainty is considered. The time delay variation range is divided into two sub-intervals. By considering the probability distribution of the time-varying delay between the two sub-intervals and the knowledge of the delay variation range, a novel linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) based stability condition is derived by defining a Lyapunov Krasovskii functional. It is illustrated with the help of numerical examples that the derived stability criteria can lead to less conservative results as compared to the results obtained by the traditional method of using the delay variation range information only.
