Discontinuous-Galerkin-Based Analysis of Traffic Flow Model Connected with Multi-Agent Traffic Model

As the number of automobiles continues to increase year after year,the associated problem of traffic congestion has become a serious societal *** to mitigate this problem have considered methods for optimizing traffic volumes in wide-area road networks,and traffic-flow simulation has become a focus of interest as a technique for advance characterization of such *** of models commonly used for traffic-flow simulations include microscopic models based on discrete vehicle representations,macroscopic models that describe entire traffic-flow systems in terms of average vehicle densities and velocities,and mesoscopic models and hybrid(or multiscale)models incorporating both microscopic and macroscopic *** traffic-flow simulations are designed to model traffic systems under a variety of conditions,their underlyingmodelsmust be capable of rapidly capturing the consequences of minor variations in operating *** other words,the computation speed of macroscopic models and the precise representation of microscopic models are needed ***,in this study we propose a multiscale model that combines a microscopic model—for detailed analysis of subregions containing traffic congestion bottlenecks or other localized phenomena of interest-with a macroscopic model enabling simulation of wide target areas at a modest computational *** addition,to ensure analytical stability with robustness in the presence of discontinuities,we discretize our macroscopic model using a discontinuous Galerkin finite element method(DGFEM),while to conjoin microscopic and macroscopic models,we use a generating/absorbing sponge layer,a technique widely used for numerical analysis of long-wavelength phenomena in shallow water,to enable traffic-flow simulations with stable input and output regions.

Clinical implications of accessory pancreatic duct

The accessory pancreatic duct (APD) is the main drainage duct of the dorsal pancreatic bud in the embryo,entering the duodenum at the minor duodenal papilla (MIP).With the growth,the duct of the dorsal bud undergoes varying degrees of atrophy at the duodenal *** of the APD in 291 control cases was 43% as determined by dye-injection endoscopic retrograde *** of the APD in 46 patients with acute pancreatitis was only 17%,which was significantly lower than in control cases (P < 0.01).The terminal shape of the APD was correlated with APD *** on the data about correlation between the terminal shape of the APD and its patency,the estimated APD patency in 167 patients with acute pancreatitis was 21%,which was signif icantly lower than in control cases (P < 0.01).A patent APD may function as a second drainage system for the main pancreatic duct to reduce the pressure in the main pancreatic duct and prevent acute *** f indings of 91 patients with pancreaticobiliary maljunction (PBM) were divided into a normal duct group (80 patients) and a dorsal pancreatic duct (DPD) dominant group (11 patients).While 48 patients (60%) with biliary carcinoma (gallbladder carcinoma,n=42;bile duct carcinoma,n=6) were identified in PBM with a normal pancreatic duct system,only two cases of gallbladder carcinoma (18%) occurred in DPD-dominant patients (P < 0.05).Concentration of amylase in the bile of DPD dominance was signifi cantly lower than that of normal pancreatic duct system (75 403.5 ± 82 015.4 IU/L vs 278 157.0 ± 207 395.0 IU/L,P < 0.05).In PBM with DPD dominance,most pancreatic juice in the upper DPD is drained into the duodenum via the MIP,and reflux of pancreatic juice to the biliary tract might be reduced,resulting in less frequency of associated biliary carcinoma.

Excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages is a serious cause of liver disease *** metabolism of ethanol generates reactive oxygen species,which play a significant role in the deterio-ration of alcoholic liver disease(ALD).Antioxidant phytochemicals,such as polyphenols,regulate the expression of ALD-associated proteins and peptides,namely,catalase,superoxide dismutase,glutathione,glutathione peroxidase,and glutathione *** plant antioxidants have electrophilic activity and may induce antioxidant enzymes via the Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1--NF--E2--related factor--2 pathway and antioxidant responsive ***,these antioxidants are reported to alleviate cell injury caused by oxidants or inflammatory *** phenomena are likely induced via the regulation of mitogen--activating protein kinase(MAPK)pathways by plant antioxidants,similar to preconditioning in ischemia-reperfusion *** the relationship between plant antioxidants and ALD has not been adequately investigated,plant antioxidants may be preventive for ALD because of their electrophilic and regulatory activities in the MAPK pathway.

Discovery of novel phosphors is extremely important to target the ever change of the solid state lighting technology. In this paper, we present a high-speed way to discover new phosphors, namely single- particle-diagnosis approach. This approach is based on investigating the crystal structure and lumines- cence of a tiny single crystal, without the necessity of the growth of large-size single crystals or the preparation of single phase powder samples. The concept of the approach and some new nitride phosphors explored by this approach are shown in this paper.

Doubling Construction of Calabi-Yau Fourfolds from Toric Fano Fourfolds

We give a differential-geometric construction of Calabi-Yau fourfolds by the‘doubling’method,which was introduced in Doi and Yotsutani(N Y J Math 20:1203-1235,2014)to construct Calabi-Yau *** also give examples of Calabi-Yau fourfolds from toric Fano *** in our construction are admissible pairs,which were first dealt with by Kovalev(J Reine Angew Math 565:125-160,2003).Here in this paper an admissible pair(X,D)consists of a compact Kähler manifold X and a smooth anticanonical divisor D on *** two admissible pairs(X_(1),D_(1))and(X_(2),D_(2))with dimC X_(i)=4 satisfy the gluing condition,we can glue X_(1)\D_(1)and X_(2)\D_(2)together to obtain a compact Riemannian 8-manifold(M,g)whose holonomy group Hol(g)is contained in Spin(7).Furthermore,if theA-genus of M equals 2,then M is a Calabi-Yau fourfold,i.e.,a compact Ricci-flat Kähler fourfold with holonomy SU(4).In particular,if(X_(1),D_(1))and(X_(2),D_(2))are identical to an admissible pair(X,D),then the gluing condition holds automatically,so that we obtain a compact Riemannian 8-manifold M with holonomy contained in Spin(7).Moreover,we show that if the admissible pair is obtained from any of the toric Fano fourfolds,then the resulting manifold M is a Calabi-Yau fourfold by computing^A(M)=2.

Our purpose was to determine how enamel matrix derivative (EMD) affects the expression ofosteogenesis- and chondrogenesis-related transcription factors in undifferentiated mesenchymal cells.C3H10T1/2 cell line,a typical pluripotential mesenchymal cell line,was cultured with or without EMD forup to 7 *** of mRNAs encoding osteogenesis-and chondrogenesis-related transcription factors(Runx2, Osterix,AJ18,Dlx5,Msx2,Sox5,Sox9 and Zfp60) was measured using real-time polymerasechain ***2 and Sox9 protein expression and the presence of bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-6-like molecules in EMD were determined by Western *** substantially increased mRNA levels ofosteogenesis-and chondrogenesis-related transcription *** also induced Runx2 and Sox9 *** blotting analysis of EMD using anti-BMP-6 antibody revealed immunoreactive bandscorresponding to about 14 kDa and 60 *** results suggest that EMD stimulates osteogenesis- andchondrogenesis-related transcription factors,and these activities may be mediated,at least in part,by BMP-6in EMD.

Autoimmune pancreatitis metachronously associated with retroperitoneal fibrosis with IgG4-positive plasma cell infiltration

Retroperitoneal fibrosis is an uncommon disorder characterized by the formation of a dense plaque of fibrous tissue in the retroperitoneum, and its etiology remains unknown. Autoimmune pancreatitis is a rare type of chronic pancreatitis characterized by fibrosis with abundant infiltration of IgG4-positive plasma cells and lymphocytes and obliterative phlebitis in the pancreas. We present a case of autoimmune pancreatitis that developed 10 mo after the occurrence of retroperitoneal fibrosis. Histological findings of the resected retroperitoneal mass were marked periureteral fibrosis with abundant infiltration of IgG4-positive plasma cells and lymphocytes and obliterative phlebitis. These findings suggest a common pathophysiological mechanism for retroperitoneal fibrosis and autoimmune pancreatitis in this case. Some cases of retroperitoneal fibrosis might be a retroperitoneal lesion of IgG4-related sderosing disease.

Utility of pancreatography for diagnosing autoimmune pancreatitis

AIM: To identify pancreatographic findings that facilitate differentiating between autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) and pancreatic cancer (PC) on endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP). METHODS: ERCP findings of 48 AIP and 143 PC patients were compared. Diagnostic accuracies for AIP by ERCP and MRCP were compared in 30 AIP patients. RESULTS: The following ERCP findings suggested a diagnosis of AIP rather than PC. Obstruction of the main pancreatic duct (MPD) was more frequently detected in PC (P < 0.001). Skipped MPD lesions were detected only in AIP (P < 0.001). Side branch derivation from the narrowed MPD was more frequent in AIP (P < 0.001). The narrowed MPD was longer in AIP (P < 0.001), and a narrowed MPD longer than 3 cm was more frequent in AIP (P < 0.001). Maximal diameter of the upstream MPD was smaller in AIP (P < 0.001), and upstream dilatation of the MPD less than 5 mm was more frequent in AIP (P < 0.001). Stenosis of the lower bile duct was smooth in 87% of AIP and irregular in 65% of PC patients (P < 0.001). Stenosis of the intrahepatic or hilar bile duct was detected only in AIP (P = 0.001). On MRCP, diffuse narrowing of the MPD on ERCP was shown as a skipped non-visualized lesion in 50% and faint visualization in 19%, but segmental narrowing of the MPD was visualized faintly in only 14%. CONCLUSION: Several ERCP findings are useful for differentiating AIP from PC. Although MRCP cannot replace ERCP for the diagnostic evaluation of AIP, some MRCP findings support the diagnosis of AIP.

We have theoretically investigated excitation processes of H^- ions in the doubly excited states by Ar-impact,using the impulse approximation and employing the hyperspherical *** have found that the H^- ion in the double excited states tends to conserve its initial states as a “floppy linear triatomic molecule” during excitation processes except for the restriction arising from the Pauli exclusion principle for two atomic electrons.

Ansa pancreatica as a predisposing factor for recurrent acute pancreatitis

AIM To determine the non-biased prevalence and clinical significance of ansa pancreatica in patients with acute pancreatitis using magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).METHODS Our institutional review board approved this crosssectional study, which consisted of a community-based cohort of 587 consecutive participants in a whole-body health-check program, and 73 subjects with episode of acute pancreatitis(55 patients with a single episode of acute pancreatitis, and 18 patients with recurrent acute pancreatitis). All of the subjects underwent abdominal MRI including magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography, medical examinations, and blood tests. Two board-certified, diagnostic, abdominal radiologists evaluated the images, and ansa pancreatica was diagnosed based on its characteristic anatomy on *** Compared with the community group [5/587(0.85%)], patients with recurrent acute pancreatitis had a significantly higher frequency of ansa pancreatica [2/18(11.1%)](P = 0.016; OR = 14.3; 95%CI: 1.27-96.1), but not compared with patients with single-episode acute pancreatitis [1/55(1.8%)](P = 0.42; OR = 2.1; 95%CI: 0.44-19.7). Multiple logistic regression analysis using age, alcohol intake, presence of ansa pancreatica, and presence of autoimmune disease as independent covariates, revealed a significant relationship between the presence of ansa pancreatica and recurrent acute pancreatitis. The presence of autoimmune disease was also significantly associated with the onset of recurrent acute pancreatitis. On the other hand, neither age nor alcohol intake were significantly related to the onset of recurrent acute *** The present study is the first to provide robust evidence that the presence of ansa pancreatica is significantly associated with recurrent acute pancreatitis.
