A composting toilet using sawdust as a matrix has the potential to trap pathogens that might occasionally be contained in human feces. Therefore, care should be taken when handling the sawdust. It should also be noted that pathogenic viruses tend to have stronger tolerance than pathogenic bacteria. The fates of several species of coliphages, T4, λ, Qβ and MS2, in sawdust were investigated as a viral model. The fates of coliphages were significantly different among them, and they changed in response to temperature and the water content of the sawdust. As the results, T4 coliphage had the strongest tolerance and Qβ had the weakest one in sawdust. It was estimated the days required to decrease virus to a safe level based on a risk assessment. According to the rates of Qβ and T4, 15 days and 167 days were required respectively for a safe level of infection risk based on actually operated composting toilet condition. Thus, it was significantly different depending on the species and sawdust conditions.

Systemic chemotherapy has enabled prolongation of survival in patients with stage IV colorectal cancer. This has subsequently increased the relative significance of local therapy for patients with oligometastases because they can be cured by removal of oligometastatic lesions. One of the most frequently reported tumor histologies for oligometastases is colorectal cancer. Resection is the standard therapy in most settings of oligometastases. Recently, studies have shown that stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) may become a treatment option that provides high local control with minimal morbidity. Two-year local control rates following SBRT for hepatic and pulmonary oligometastases are almost over 80% and are even higher for patients treated with high-dose regimens. The indications of SBRT for other metastatic sites or conditions include isolated lymph nodes, spinal and adrenal metastasis, and post-surgical pelvic recurrence. Many retrospective studies have indicated that SBRT for various lesions results in good outcomes with low morbidity, both in the curative and palliative setting. However, few reports with a high level of evidence have indicated the efficacy of SBRT compared to standard therapy. Hereafter, the optimal indication of SBRT needs to be prospectively investigated to obtain convincing evidence.

The integration of new technologies has raised an interest in liver tumor radiotherapy,with literature evolving to support its *** advances,particularly stereotactic body radiation therapy(SBRT),have been critical in improving local control or potential cure in liver lesions not amenable to first-line surgical resection or radiofrequency *** investigation of SBRT,particularly for hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC),has recently started,yielding promising local control *** addition,data suggest a possibility that SBRT can be an alternative option for HCC unfit for other local ***,information on optimal treatment indications,doses,and methods remains *** HCC,significant differences in patient characteristics and treatment availability exist by *** addition,the prognosis of HCC is greatly influenced by underlying liver dysfunction and treatment itself in addition to tumor *** they are closely linked to treatment approach,it is important to understand these differences in interpreting outcomes from various *** studies are required to validate and maximize the efficacy of SBRT by a large,multi-institutional setting.

Sustainable sanitation is an approach for more ecological and sustainable water resources management. In this paper, we proposed one of the new integrated waste treatment systems： an ＂sustainable sanitation system＂ that includes separation of the black water from water system by a non-flushing toilet （bio-toilet）, and a gray water treatment based on a biological and ecological concept. Sustainable sanitation system also converts the domestic waste to soil conditioners and fertilizers, for farmland use. As one of the case studies, Environmentally Symbiotic Housing in which people actually live using the bio-toilet for the black water treatment and the household wastewater treatment facility for the gray water was introduced. The availability of this system was investigated by analyzing the sawdust used in the bio-toilet and the quality of the effluent in the household wastewater treatment facility. As the result, the water content of the sawdust did not exceed 60% in any of the sampling points and the BOD and COD of the effluent of the household wastewater treatment facility were below 10 and 20 mg/L respectively, due to the low loading. Compared to the pollution load on the water environment created by the conventional system, it was found that the effluent of the house has a lower load than the tertiary treatment and the volume of the water consumption is 75% of the conventional system.

Fast pyrolysis is a promising technology that can convert biomass into ***-oil is one such product,known not only as a greenhouse gas-neutral energy source,but also an opportunity to reduce reliance on fossil *** lignin,a fine homogeneous powder,is the water-insoluble fraction of bio-oil and it contributes to the instability of ***,pyrolytic lignin can be used in commercial materials such as adhesives in the wood-based panel *** paper presents the structural characterization of pyrolytic lignin extracted from aged bio-oil and the relationship between its properties and the treatment temperature of the aged *** lignin samples were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,gel permeation chromatography,differential scanning calorimetry,thermogravimetric analysis and proton nuclear magnetic resonance *** average molecular weight of pyrolytic lignin increased from 700 to 1000 g/mol with increasing aging temperature (6-50°C).Differential scanning calorimetry showed that the glass transition temperature of pyrolytic lignin increases with lower heating rate and higher treatment temperature of *** increase in the initial decomposition temperature and the temperature at 95 wt% weight loss of the aged pyrolytic lignin in thermogravimetry were observed for the bio-oil aged at higher *** increase in residue weight of aged pyrolytic lignin was found in bio-oil aged at higher temperatures.

Deciphering Starch Quality of Rice Kernels Using Metabolite Profiling and Pedigree Network Analysis

The physiological properties of rice grains are immediately obvious to consumers. High-coverage metabolomic characterization of the rice diversity research set predicted a negative correlation between fatty acid and lipid levels and amylose/total starch ratio （amylose ratio）, but the reason for this is unclear. To obtain new insight into the relationships among the visual phenotypes of rice kernels, starch granule structures, amylose ratios, and metabolite changes, we investigated the metabolite changes of five Japonica cultivars with various amylose ratios and two knockout mutants （e 1, a Starch synthase Ilia （SSIIla）-deficient mutant and the SSIIla/starch branching enzyme （BE） double-knockout mutant 4019） by using mass spectrometry-based metabolomics techniques. Scanning electron microscopy clearly showed that the two mutants had unusual starch granule structures. The metabolomic compositions of two cultivars with high amylose ratios （Hoshiyutaka and Yumetoiro） exhibited similar patterns, while that of the double-knockout mutant, which has an extremely high amylose ratio, differed. Rice pedigree network analysis of the cultivars and the mutants provided insight into the association between metabolic-trait properties and their underlying genetic basis in rice breeding in Japan. Multidimensional scaling analysis revealed that the Hoshiyutaka and Yumetoiro cultivars were Indica-like, yet they are classified as Japonica subpopulations. Exploring metabolomic traits is a powerful way to follow rice genetic traces and breeding history.
