The design of crosslinking domains is a vital factor to create functional hydrogels with controlled physical,mechanical,and adhesive *** paper demonstrates versatile synthetic systems of micelle-crosslinked hydrogels with highly stretchable,self-healing,and selectively adhesive *** this,methacrylate-bearing random copolymer micelles are designed as physical and covalent crosslink domains via the self-assembly of amphiphilic random copolymers carrying hydrophilic poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG),hydrophobic butyl or dodecyl groups,and methacrylate-terminal PEG in *** size,aggregation number,and pendant methacrylate number of the micelles are controlled by the composition and degree of *** are efficiently obtained from the free radical polymerization of hydrophilic monomers such as PEG acrylate and acrylamide in the presence of the micelle crosslinkers in *** to the dynamic yet selective chain exchange properties of the micelle domains,the hydrogels are highly stretchable up to over 1000%and show self-healing and selectively adhesive *** self-healing of hydrogels is promoted upon heating due to the fast chain exchange of the micelle domains,whereas hydrogels consisting of micelles with different alkyl groups are never adhesive because of their self-sorting properties.

This paper demonstrates the importance of three-dimensional(3-D)piezoelectric coupling in the electromechanical behavior of piezoelectric devices using three-dimensional finite element analyses based on weak and strong coupling models for a thin cantilevered piezoelectric bimorph *** is found that there is a significant difference between the strong and weak coupling solutions given by coupling direct and inverse piezoelectric effects(i.e.,piezoelectric coupling effect).In addition,there is significant longitudinal bending caused by the constraint of the inverse piezoelectric effect in the width direction at the fixed end(i.e.,3-D effect).Hence,modeling of these effects or 3-D piezoelectric coupling modeling is an electromechanical basis for the piezoelectric devices,which contributes to the accurate prediction of their behavior.

In this study, Bayesian parameter calibration is applied to Saplart-Allmaras(SA) turbulence model, and the prediction improvement by the calibrated model is demonstrated. The quantity of interest(QOI) is the pitch-wise distribution of Mach number in the corner separation flow region. The 10 model parameters included in the SA model with Rotation-Curvature correction are considered as random variables obeying uniform prior probability distributions. The order of generalized Polynomial Chaos(g PC) used for sensitivity analysis and surrogate model in calibration is incrementally increased during the calibration process. Posterior convergence is obtained at the 3 rd order expansion level in this study. At this final level, sensitivity analysis indicates 3 model parameters, cb1, κ and cr3 are the most influential random variables, and 3-parameter Bayesian calibration is conducted. The likelihood function in the Bayesian theorem is specified in the form of Gaussian distribution, including experimental uncertainty. The combination of prior and likelihood brings the posterior distribution of model parameters, and Maximum A Posterior(MAP) value is selected as a calibrated parameter set. The flow simulation with calibrated parameters shows a significant increase in the accuracy of the Mach number profile in the corner separation region. The increase in accuracy is attributed to enlarged turbulent viscosity due to the parameter modification of the turbulent viscosity source term. The calibrated parameter is also tested in the off-design flow field, not included in the calibration process. The calibrated CFD again shows improved accuracy for corner separation prediction, and the effectiveness of the parameter set outside of the calibration field is demonstrated.

The surface topography of a material can influence osteoclast ***,the surface structural factors that promote osteoclast activity have not yet been investigated in ***,we investigated osteoclastogenesis by testing various defined patterns with different dimensions and *** systematic patterns,made of a cyclo-olefin polymer,were prepared at a micron-,submicron-,and nano-scale with a groove,hole,or pillar shape with a 1:1 pitch ***264.7 cells were cultured on these patterns in the presence of the receptor activator of NF-κB ligand(RANKL).Osteoclast formation was induced in the order:pillar>groove≥*** two-dimensional factors also indicated that submicron-sized patterns strongly induced osteoclast *** optimal pillar dimension for osteoclast formation was 500 nm in diameter and 2μm in ***,we observed two types of characteristic actin structure,i.e.,belt-like structures with small hollow circles and isolated ring-like structures,which formed on or around the pillars depending on size and ***,resorption pits were observed mainly on the top of calcium phosphate-coated ***,osteoclasts prefer convex shapes,such as pillars for differentiation and *** results indicate that osteoclastogenesis can be controlled by designing surfaces with specific morphologies.

Three dimensional microstructures of carbon deposition on Ni-YSZ anodes under polarization

A deep learning based homogenization framework is proposed to link the microstructures of porous nickel/yttriastabilized zirconia anodes in solid oxide fuel cells(SOFCs)to their effective macroscopic properties.A variety of microstructures are generated by the discrete element method and the meso‑scale kinetic Monte Carlo ***,the finite element method and the homogenization theory are used to calculate the effective elastic modulus(E),Poisson’s ratio(υ),shear modulus(G)and coefficient of thermal expansion(CTE)of representative volume *** addition,the triple-phase boundary length density(LTPB)is also *** convolutional neural network(CNN)based deep learning model is trained to find the potential relationship between the microstructures and the five effective macroscopic *** comparison between the ground truth and the predicted values of the new samples proves that the CNN model has an excellent predictive *** indicates that the CNN model could be used as an effective alternative to numerical simulations and homogenization because of its accurate and rapid prediction *** the deep learning-based homogenization framework could potentially accelerate the continuum modeling of SOFCs for microstructure optimization.

Preparation of large rylenes often needs the use of solubilizing groups along the rylene backbone,which results in the distortion of the skeleton and thus broadening of the absorption *** this work,we successfully synthesized 2,5,8,16,19,22-hexakis[2,6-bis(tri-fluoromethyl)phenyl]hexarylene(H)by using an oxidative fusion reaction of perylene trimer in 5%*** product is soluble in common organic solvents and could be purified with column ***-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the hexarylene core is not disturbed by the substituents very much and is almost *** longest absorption of H exhibits a sharp peak at 831 nm and an on-set at 875 nm in toluene with a small full-width-at-half-maximum(FWHM)of 660 cm^(-1).The molar extinction coefficient is as large as 131,000 M^(-1)cm^(-1).The substituents could not perturb the electronic properties of the hexarylene because aryl groups are perpendicular to the hexarylene core and the carbon atoms at 2,5,16,19-positions have negligible coeffi-cients on its HOMO and LUMO,estimated by theoretical *** a result,the hexarylene having less absorption at the visible light region was stable enough in solution under the LED room light for more than 1 *** strategy gives a useful guideline to establish the near-infrared materials that exhibit stability under ambient conditions.
