Systematic review:Eosinophilic esophagitis in Asian countries

AIM: to investigate the prevalence and the clinical characteristics of Asian patients with eosinophilic esophagitis.METHODS: We conducted a systematic search of the Pub Med and Web of Science databases for original studies, case series, and individual case reports of eosinophilic esophagitis in Asian countries published from January 1980 to January 2015. We found 66 and 80 articles in the Pub Med and Web of Science databases, respectively; 24 duplicate articles were removed. After excluding animal studies, articles not written in English, and meeting abstracts, 25 articles containing 217 patients were selected for analysis.RESULTS: Sample size-weighted mean values were determined for all pooled prevalence data and clinical characteristics. The mean age of the adult patients with eosinophilic esophagitis was approximately 50 years, and 73% of these patients were male. They frequently presented with allergic diseases including bronchial asthma, allergic rhinitis, food allergy, and atopic dermatitis. Bronchial asthma was the most frequent comorbid allergic disease, occurring in 24% of patients with eosinophilic esophagitis. Dysphagia was the primary symptom reported; 44% of the patients complained of dysphagia. Although laboratory blood tests are not adequately sensitive for an accurate diagnosis of eosinophilic esophagitis, endoscopic examinations revealed abnormal findings typical of this disease, including longitudinal furrows and concentric rings, in 82% of the cases. One-third of the cases responded to proton pump inhibitor administration.CONCLUSION: The characteristics of eosinophilicesophagitis in Asian patients were similar to those reported in Western patients, indicating that this disease displays a similar pathogenesis between Western and Asian patients.

The regularization theory has successfully enabled the removal of gravitational singularities associated with celestial bodies.In this study,regularizing techniques are merged into a multi-impulse trajectory design framework that requires delicate computations,particularly for a fuel minimization problem.Regularized variables based on the Levi–Civita or Kustaanheimo–Stiefel transformations express instantaneous velocity changes in a gradient-based direct optimization method.The formulation removes the adverse singularities associated with the null thrust impulses from the derivatives of an objective function in the fuel minimization problem.The favorite singularity-free property enables the accurate reduction of unnecessary impulses and the generation of necessary impulses for local optimal solutions in an automatic manner.Examples of fuel-optimal multi-impulse trajectories are presented,including novel transfer solutions between a near-rectilinear halo orbit and a distant retrograde orbit.

Emotion Measurement Using Biometric Signal

In recent years, research on the estimation of human emotions has been active, and its application is expected in various fields. Biological reactions, such as electroencephalography (EEG) and root mean square successive difference (RMSSD), are indicators that are less influenced by individual arbitrariness. The present study used EEG and RMSSD signals to assess the emotions aroused by emotion-stimulating images in order to investigate whether various emotions are associated with characteristic biometric signal fluctuations. The participants underwent EEG and RMSSD while viewing emotionally stimulating images and answering the questionnaires. The emotions aroused by emotionally stimulating images were assessed by measuring the EEG signals and RMSSD values to determine whether different emotions are associated with characteristic biometric signal variations. Real-time emotion analysis software was used to identify the evoked emotions by describing them in the Circumplex Model of Affect based on the EEG signals and RMSSD values. Emotions other than happiness did not follow the Circumplex Model of Affect in this study. However, ventral attentional activity may have increased the RMSSD value for disgust as the β/θ value increased in right-sided brain waves. Therefore, the right-sided brain wave results are necessary when measuring disgust. Happiness can be assessed easily using the Circumplex Model of Affect for positive scene analysis. Improving the current analysis methods may facilitate the investigation of face-to-face communication in the future using biometric signals.

Colorectal cancer（CRC）, a widespread malignancy, is closely associated with tumor microenvironmental hydrogen peroxide（H2O2） levels. Some clinical trials targeting H2O2for cancer treatment have revealed its paradoxical role as a promoter of cancer progression. Investigating the dynamics of cancer cell H2O2eustress at the single–cell level is crucial. In this study, non–contact hopping probe mode scanning ion conductance microscopy（HPICM） with high-sensitive Pt–functionalized nanoelectrodes was employed to measure dynamic extracellular to intracellular H2O2gradients in individual colorectal cancer Caco–2cells. We explored the relationship between cellular mechanical properties and H2O2gradients.Exposure to 0.1 or 1 mmol/L H2O2eustress increased the extracellular to intracellular H2O2gradient from 0.3 to 1.91 or 3.04, respectively. Notably, cellular F–actin–dependent stiffness increased at 0.1 mmol/L but decreased at 1 mmol/L H2O2eustress. This H2O2–induced stiffness modulated AKT activation positively and glutathione peroxidase 2（GPX2） expression negatively. Our findings unveil the failure of some H2O2-targeted therapies due to their ineffectiveness in generating H2O2, which instead acts eustress to promote cancer cell survival. This research also reveals the complex interplay between physical properties and biochemical signaling in cancer cells' antioxidant defense, illuminating the exploitation of H2O2eustress for survival at the single–cell level. Inhibiting GPX and/or catalase（CAT） enhances the cytotoxic activity of H2O2eustress against CRC cells, which holds significant promise for developing innovative therapies targeting cancer and other H2O2-related inflammatory diseases.

A new extractant,[N,N-di(2-ethylhexyl)amino]methylphenylphosphinic acid(DEAPP),was synthesized to develop the mutual separation techniques of In(III),Ga(III) and Zn(II).The extraction selectivity for In(III),Ga(III)and Zn(II) with DEAPP was higher than that of the commercial phosphorus acid extractants such as D2 EHPA and PC-88 A.The extraction selectivity for metal ions in 1 mol·L-1aqueous ammonium nitrate solution with DEAPP was in the following order:In(III) N Ga(III) N Zn(II).These selective extraction behaviors indicate that the amino moiety of DEAPP plays an important role in the mutual separation of In(III),Ga(III) and Zn(II).The extraction equilibria of In(III),Ga(III) and Zn(II) with DEAPP(=HR) were expressed by the following reactions:In3++ 2HRT2In R3HRT + 3H+,Ga3++ 1.5HRT-2+ NO3 GaR 2eHRT N O3T + 2H+,and Zn2++ 2HRT2 Zn R2HRT2+ 2H+.The extraction equilibrium constants of In(III),Ga(III) and Zn(II) with DEAPP were determined to be Kex,M= 1.7 × 104[dm3·mol-1],4.17 [(dm3·mol-1)0.5],and 1.55 x 10-2[–],respectively.

The accumulation of genetic alterations in driver genes is responsible for the development and malignant progression of colorectal cancer. Comprehensive genome analyses have revealed the driver genes, including APC, KRAS, TGFBR2, and TP53, whose mutations are frequently found in human colorectal cancers. Among them, the p53 mutation is found in ~60% of colorectal cancers, and a majority of mutations are missense-type at ‘hot spots’, suggesting an oncogenic role of mutant p53 by ‘gain-of-function’ mechanisms. Mouse model studies have shown that one of these missense-type mutations, p53 R270H (corresponding to human R273H), causes submucosal invasion of intestinal tumors, while the loss of wild-type p53 has a limited effect on the invasion process. Furthermore, the same mutant p53 promotes metastasis when combined with Kras activation and TGF-β suppression. Importantly, either missense-type p53 mutation or loss of wild-type p53 induces NF-κB activation by a variety of mechanisms, such as increasing promoter accessibility by chromatin remodeling, which may contribute to progression to epithelial–mesenchymal transition. These results indicate that missense-type p53 mutations together with loss of wild-type p53 accelerate the late stage of colorectal cancer progression through the activation of both oncogenic and inflammatory pathways. Accordingly, the suppression of the mutant p53 function via the inhibition of nuclear accumulation is expected to be an effective strategy against malignant progression of colorectal cancer.

The regenerating islet-derived members (Reg ),a group of small secretory proteins,which are involved in cell proliferation or differentiation in digestive organs,are upregulated in several gastrointestinal cancers,functioning as trophic or antiapoptotic factors.Regenerating islet-derived type Ⅳ (RegⅣ ),a member of the Reg gene family,has been reported to be overexpressed in gastroenterological cancers.RegIV overexpression in tumor cells has been associated with carcinogenesis,cell growth,survival and resistance to apoptosis.Cancer tissue expressing RegⅣ is generally associated with more malignant characteristics than that without such expression,and RegⅣ is considered a novel prognostic factor as well as diagnostic marker in some gastroenterological cancers.We previously investigated the expression levels of RegⅣ mRNA of 202 surgical colorectal cancer specimens with quantitative real-time reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction and reported that a higher level of RegⅣ gene expression was a significant independent predictor of colorectal cancer.The biologic functions of RegⅣ protein in cancer tissue,associated with carcinogenesis,antiapoptosis and invasiveness,are being elucidated by molecular investigations using transfection techniques or neutralizing antibodies of RegⅣ,and the feasibility of antibody therapy targeting RegⅣ is being assessed.These studies may lead to novel therapeutic strategies for gastroenterological cancers expressing RegⅣ .This review article summarizes the current information related to biological functions as well as clinical importance of RegⅣ gene to clarify the significance of RegⅣ expression in gastroenterological cancers.

Separation and determination of metal ions based on the formation of chelate anions with 1-Nitroso-2, 7-dihydrexynaphthalene-3, 6-disulfonic acid (1N2, 7O3, 6S) was studied by rising HPCE of the nine metal ions examined, the ions that can be detected sensitively with 1-Nitroso-2, 7-dihydrexynaphthalene-3, 6-disulfonic acid were Fe2+, Co2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Zn2+ and Pd2+. The cobalt chelate could exist in two oxidation states of cobalt. When TBA(+) were added in electrophoretic solutions, the drastic changes in elertrophoretic mobilities of chelate were observed, which was due to the ion association between chelates anions and TBA(+). The ion association constants of chelate anions with TBA(+) were determined by using the change in electrophoretic mobilities of chelates, metal ions tested were separated within 10 min using 30cm silica capillary (50 m i. d).
