An empirical solution to abnormal potential responses, showing peaks of emf, of commercial Cu2+- and Cd2+-selective electrodes with solid-state membranes was proposed for aqueous solutions of CuCl2 and CdI2. The two-step processes of Mn+ + Yn? (s: solid phase) MY(s) and MY(s) + 2X? X2MY2?(s) (n = 1, 2) at a test solution/electrode-interface were considered as a model. Here, Mn+, Yn?, and X? refer to a divalent or univalent cation, functional groups of electrode materials, and a halide ion (X? = Cl?, Br?, I?), respectively. By applying electrochemical potentials to these processes at n = 2, we derived an equation. Regression analyses based on the equation reproduced well the plots of emf versus log 2(*[M]t) for the Cd(II) and Cu(II) systems: *[M]t denotes a total concentration of species relevant to M2+ in a bulk of the aqueous solution. Also, we obtained log Ks(CdBr2) = 4.28 ? 0.22, log Ks(CdI2) = 6.98 ? 0.05, log Ks(CuCl2) = 3.96 ? 0.09, and log Ks(CuBr2) = 11.4 at 25?C. The magnitude in ?log Ks reflected that in the logarithmic solubility product, log {*[M2+](*[X?])2}, for bulk water, where *[M2+] or *[X?] denotes a molar concentration of the bulk solu-tion of M2+ or X? at equilibrium, respectively. Moreover, a mixture of CuSO4 with NaCl at the molar ratio of 1:1 yielded a plot similar to that of CuCl2.

AIM:To study the safety and effectiveness of propofol sedation for outpatient ***:Propofol was given by bolus injection with an age-adjusted standard protocol consisting of 60 mg for patients < 70 years old,40 mg for patients age 70-89 years,and 20 mg for those ≥ 90 years,and additional injections of 20 mg propofol were given up to a maximum of 200 *** principal parameters were the occurrence of adverse events within 24 h after colonoscopy and overall satisfaction for this *** parameters included successful procedure,respiratory depression,and other ***:Consecutive patients were entered prospectively and all 2101 entered successfully completed outpatient *** mean dose of propofol used was 96.4 mg(range 40-200 mg).Younger patients required higher doses of propofol than older patients(20-40 years vs ≥ 61 years:115.3 ± 32 mg vs 89.7 ± 21 mg,P < 0.001).Transient supplemental oxygen supply was needed by five patients(0.2%);no other complications *** questionnaires were completed by 1820(87%) of 2101 patients and most rated their overall satisfaction as excellent(80%) or good(17%).The majority(65%) of patients drove home or to their office after their ***(99%) were willing to repeat the same *** incidents occurred within 24 h after ***:Propofol sedation using a dose < 200 mg proved both safe and practical for outpatient colonoscopy.

Colonoscopy with polypectomy has been shown to reduce the risk of colon cancer. The critical element in the quality of colonoscopy in terms of polyp detection and removal continues to be the performance of the endoscopist, independent of patient-related factors. Improved results in terms of polyp detection and complete removal have implications regarding the development of screening and surveillance intervals and the reduction of interval cancers after negative colonoscopy. Advances in colonoscopy techniques such as high-definition colonoscopy, hood-assisted colonoscopy and dye-based chromoendoscopy have improved the detection of small and flat-type colorectal polyps. Virtual chromoendoscopy has not proven to improve polyp detection but may be useful to predict polyp pathology. The majority of polyps can be removed endoscopically. Available polypectomy techniques include cold forceps polypectomy, cold snare polypectomy, conventional polypectomy, endoscopic mucosal resection and endoscopic submucosal dissection. The preferred choice depends on the polyp size and characteristics. Other useful techniques include colonoscopic hemostasis for acute colonic diverticular bleeding, endoscopic decompression using colonoscopic stenting, and transanal tube placement for colorectal obstruction. Here we review the current knowledge concerning the improvement of quality measures in colonoscopy and colonoscopy-related therapeutic interventions.

We discuss cluster phenomena in light nuclei. As examples of typical cluster structures, we first review cluster structures of 12C, 16O, and 20Ne, and then introduce some topics of cluster phenomena in light neutron-rich nuclei such as Be and C isotopes. A particular attention is paid on coexistence of cluster and shell-model aspects.

During the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic,the Japanese government implemented several infection control measures,such as states of emergency(SoE)and school closures,and encouraged universal masking and hand *** activity restrictions and improved hygiene were found to be associated with declines in the incidence of infuenza during the 2019–2020 winter season[1].Prior studies have found that the incidence of seven pediatric infections,such as pharyngoconjunctivitis and varicella,decreased during and after the school closures in Japan[2].As activity restrictions continue to be lifted,there is growing concern that pediatric infections may suddenly return given that the pool of susceptible children increased during the pandemic[3].In this study,we use national infectious disease sentinel data from January 2012 to October 2021 to assess changes in the reported number of pediatric infections in Japan during the COVID-19 *** hypothesize that the reporting of many infectious diseases decreased during the early stages of the pandemic but ultimately returned to normal when activity restrictions were lifted.

We explain various facets of the THSR(Tohsaki-horiuchi Schuck-Ropke)wave *** first discuss the THSR,wave function as a wave function of cluster-gas state,since the THSR,wave function was originally introduced to elucidate the 3a-condensate-like character of the Hoyle state(O2^+ state)of *** briefly review the cluster-model studies of the Hoyle state in 1970’s in order to explain how there emerged the idea to assign the a condensate character to the Hoyle *** then explain that the THSR wave function can describe very well also non-gaslike ordinary cluster states with spatial localization of *** fact means that the dynamical motion of clusters is of nonlocalized nature just as in gas-like states of clusters and the localization of clusters is due to the inter-cluster Pauli principle which is against the close approach of two *** nonlocalized cluster dynamics is formulated by the container model of cluster *** container model describes gas-like state and non-gaslike states as the solutions of the Hill Wheeler equation with respect to the size parameter of THSR wave function which is just the size parameter of the *** we notice that fact that the THSR wave function with the smallest value of size parameter is equivalent to the shell-model wave function,we see that the container model describes the evolution of cluster structure from the ground state with shell-model structure up to the gas-like cluster state via ordinary non-gaslike cluster *** the description of various cluster structure,more generation of THSR wave function have been introduced and we review some typical examples with their actual applications.

There are two kinds of Sabo dams in order to control sediment transport by debris flow and flash floods in mountainous area,which arc closed and open-type’s *** Japan,open-type’s Sabo dams are constructed taking into account the continuity of sediment routing from upstream to downstream reach in a basin.A plan to construct a 20 m high grid-type Sabo dam which can capture a sediment volume of 400,000 nr is proposed in the Amahata river basin in *** model tests are conducted to decide on the section for a dam(Section A,B) and the grid size such as clearance of vertical/horizontal bars for evaluating the *** runs of flume tests are conducted and the sediment control function of the Sabo dam is discussed using several experimental data such as dimensionlcss sediment runoff rate from Sabo dam,temporal changes of bed profile and mean diameter and so *** was found that sediment deposition in sediment storage area of Sabo dam was affected by curved channel,and that next the grid size of steel bars and thirdly the section of a dam was able to capture sediment in storage area of Sabo *** was controlled well in the section B and in the grid size of l.0×d95,and the problems related to sediment runoff after sediment capturing in Sabo dam are pointed out.

The dynamical evolution of collisionless driven reconnection is investigated by using an electromagnetic particle simulation code in a microscopic open *** in-plane electrostatic field is excited in the central region of current sheet under the influence of an external driving *** a result of the amplification of unmagnetized meandering motion by the electrostatic field particle distribution function is modified from the shifted Maxwellian to an anisotropic one in the current *** ion hole appears at the center of current sheet in the phase space,where distribution becomes two-peaked and no ions exist in low velocity region between two *** strongmodification of distribution function leads to the generation of off-diagonal components of pressure tensor term,which is one of major causes to violate frozen-in constraint and trigger collisionless reconnection.

Dear Editor,Geographic tongue(G tongue)is chronic inflammation of the tongue that presents as a map-like pattern of filiform papillary atrophy that changes over time.1 However,the cause of G tongue remains unknown and reliable treatment has not yet been *** has been suggested that the pathogenesis involves the engraftment of oral bacteria in the tongue,however,a specific treatment for G tongue has not been well defined.I propose a potential therapy using long-wave ultraviolet(UV)A,which can penetrate and reach the submucosal tissue to potentially kill bacteria.2 Herein,I discuss the current status and prospects of UV irradiation treatment being studied for gingival diseases that may be applicable for G tongue3-4.
