Biodiesels produced from various feedstocks have been considered as alternative fuels used in internal combustion engines without major *** research focuses on producing biodiesel from waste cooking oil(WCOSD)by the catalytic cracking method using MgO as the catalyst and comparing the engine operating characteristics of the test engine when using WCOSD and traditional diesel(CD)as test *** a result,the brake power of the test engine fueled WCOSD,and traditional diesel is ***,the engine fuel consumption in the case of using WCOSD is slight increases in some operating ***,the nitrogen oxides emissions of the test engine fueled WCOSD are higher than those of CD at all tested *** trend is opposite for hydrocarbon emission as the HC emission of the engine fueled by WCOSD reduces 26.3%on *** smoke emission of the test engine in case of using WCOSD is lower 17%on average than that of ***,the carbon monoxide emissions are lower at the low and medium loads and higher at the full *** results show that the new biodiesel has the same characteristics as those of commercial biodiesel and can be used as fuel for diesel engines.

We demonstrate the subsurface imaging of an articular cartilage using Fourier-domain common-path optical coherence tomography. The bare fiber probe integrated with a hypodermic needle provides the rigidness required to perform lateral scanning with less microscale bending. By submerging both the probe and the specimen into saline solution, we not only reduce the beam divergence, but also increase the signal-to-noise ratio compared with the measurement in free space. Our system can differentiate the characteristic cartilage zones and identity various micro-structured defects in an ex vivo chicken knee cartilage, thus demonstrating that it could be used to conduct early arthritis diagnosis and intraoperative endo-microscopy.

We report on the synthesis of Sn-doped hematite nanoparticles(Sn-α-Fe_(2)O_(3) NPs)by the hydrothermal *** prepared Sn-α-Fe_(2)O_(3) NPs had a highly pure and well crystalline rhombohedral phase with an average particle size of 41.4 *** optical properties of as-synthesizedα-Fe_(2)O_(3) NPs show a higher bandgap energy(2.40-2.57 eV)than that of pure bulkα-Fe_(2)O_(3)(2.1 eV).By doping Sn intoα-Fe_(2)O_(3) NPs,the Sn-doped hematite was observed a redshift toward a long wavelength with in-creasing Sn concentration from 0%to 4.0%.The photocatalytic activity of Sn-dopedα-Fe_(2)O_(3) NPs was evaluated by Congo red(CR)dye *** degradation efficiency of CR dye using Sn-α-Fe_(2)O_(3) NPs catalyst is higher than that of pureα-Fe_(2)O_(3) *** highest degradation efficiency of CR dye was 97.8%using 2.5%Sn-dopedα-Fe_(2)O_(3) NPs catalyst under visible-light *** results suggest that the synthesized Sn-dopedα-Fe_(2)O_(3) nanoparticles might be a suitable approach to develop a photocatalytic degradation of toxic inorganic dye in wastewater.

AIM：To determine the outcome of non-investigational treatment with intravitreal bevacizumab（IVB） in neovascular age-related macular degeneration（AMD）patients.· METhoDS：Retrospective chart review of 81 eyes with neovascular AMD followed-up for at least 12 mo and received 3-monthly loading IVB ***-treat was based upon the individual clinician＇s *** visual acuity（BCVA） and optical coherence tomography measurements of central foveal thickness outcomes were evaluated at 12,24 mo.· RESULTS：Eighty-one eyes（of 75 patients） completed12 mo of follow-up and 44 eyes（of 41 patients） completed24 mo of *** mean baseline logMAR BCVA significantly improved from 0.94±0.69 to 0.85±0.68 at12mo（P〈0.001） and from 0.91±0.65 to 0.85±0.60（P=0.004）at 24 *** proportion of eyes that lost 〈15 logMAR letters at 12 mo was 90.1%and at 24 mo was 81.8%.IVB was effective in improving visual acuity in both treatment naive and previous photodynamic therapy（PDT）-treated *** naive patients required significantly fewer injections than patients with prior *** regression analysis identified that poorer baseline visual acuity was associated with greater improvement in visual acuity（P=0.015）.· CONCLUSION：Fewer injections in clinical practice may result in suboptimal visual outcomes compared with clinical trials of IVB in neovascular AMD *** baseline visual acuity and prior PDT treatment may also improve vision after *** safety and durability of effect was maintained at 24 mo.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC)is a malignant disease associated with Epstein–Barr virus(EBV)*** study aims to examine the effects of EBV infection on the production of proinflammatory cytokines in NPC cells after the Zn-BC-AM photodynamic therapy(PDT)*** were treated with the photosensitiser Zn-BC-AM for 24 h before light *** ELISA was used to evaluate the production of *** the same experimental condition,HK-1-EBV cells produced a higher basal level of IL-1a(1561 pg/ml),IL-1b(16.6 pg/ml)and IL-8(422.9 pg/ml)than the HK-1 *** the light dose of 0.25–0.5 J/cm2,Zn-BC-AM PDT-treated HK-1-EBV cells were found to produce a higher level of IL-1a and IL-1b than the HK-1 *** production of IL-1b appeared to be mediated via the IL-1b-converting enzyme(ICE)-independent *** contrast,the production of angiogenic IL-8 was downregulated in both HK-1 and HK-1-EBV cells after Zn-BC-AM *** results suggest that Zn-BC-AM PDT might indirectly reduce tumour growth through the modulation of cytokine production.

To objectively classify and evaluate the strong aroma base liquors(SABLs)of different grades,solid-phase microextraction-mass spectrometry(SPME-MS)combined with chemometrics were *** showed that SPME-MS combined with a back-propagation artificial neural network(BPANN)method yielded almost the same recognition performance compared to linear discriminant analysis(LDA)in distinguishing different grades of SABL,with 84%recognition rate for the test *** least squares(PLS),successive projection algorithm partial least squares(SPA-PLS)model,and competitive adaptive reweighed samplingpartial least squares(CARS-PLS)were established for the prediction of the four esters in the ***-PLS model showed a greater advantage in the quantitative analysis of ethyl acetate,ethyl butyrate,ethyl caproate,and ethyl *** results corroborated the hypothesis that SPME-MS combined with chemometrics can effectively achieve an accurate determination of different grades of SABL and prediction performance of esters.
