Impact of X-radiation in the management of COVID-19 disease

Coronaviruses are a diverse group of viruses that infect both animals and humans.Even though the existence of coronavirus and its infection to humans is not new,the 2019-novel coronavirus(nCoV)caused a major burden to individuals and society i.e.,anxiety,fear of infection,extreme competition for hospitalization,and more importantly financial liability.The nCoV infection/disease diagnosis was based on non-specific signs and symptoms,biochemical parameters,detection of the virus using reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction(RTPCR),and X-ray-based imaging.This review focuses on the consolidation of potentials of X-ray-based imaging modality[chest-X radiography(CXR)and chest computed tomography(CT)]and low-dose radiation therapy(LDRT)for screening,severity,and management of COVID-19 disease.Reported studies suggest that CXR contributed significantly toward initial rapid screening/diagnosis and CT-imaging to monitor the disease severity.The chest CT has high sensitivity up to 98%and low specificity for diagnosis and severity of COVID-19 disease compared to RT-PCR.Similarly,LDRT compliments drug therapy in the early recovery/Less hospital stays by maintaining the physiological parameters better than the drug therapy alone.All the results undoubtedly demonstrated the evidence that X-ray-based technology continues to evolve and play a significant role in human health care even during the pandemic.

Objective: To report the i ndings of inl uenza surveillance programme from Union territory of Puducherry and to document the clinical and epidemiological data of inl uenza viruses over a i ve year period from 2009-2013. Methods: Respiratory samples were collected from patients with influenza-like illness from 2009-2013 as part of routine diagnostic and surveillance activity. Detection of pandemic inl uenza A(H1N1) 2009, inl uenza A(H3N2) and inl uenza B was done using Real-time PCR. Results: Of the total 2 247 samples collected from patients with inl uenza-like illness during the study period 287(12.7%) and 92(4.0%) were positive for inl uenza A(H1N1) 2009 and inl uenza A(H3N2) respectively. A subset of 557 of these samples were also tested for inl uenza B and 24(4.3%) were positive. Signii cantly higher positivity rate for both viruses was observed in adults when compared with children. The peak positivity of influenza A(H1N1) 2009 was observed in 2009 followed by 2012, while that of inl uenza A(H3N2) was more uniformly distributed with the exception of 2012. Overall mortality rate due to influenza A(H1N1) 2009 was 7.6% while it was 1% for influenza A(H3N2). Each year influenza-like illness and influenza virus activity coincided with period of high rainfall and low temperature except in the first half of 2012. Conclusions: As the sole referral laboratory in this region, the data provides a comprehensive picture of inl uenza activity. This information will be useful in future planning of the vaccine schedule and inl uenza pandemic preparedness.

Fault Aware Dynamic Resource Manager for Fault Recognition and Avoidance in Cloud

Fault tolerance(FT)schemes are intended to work on a minimized and static amount of physical resources.When a host failure occurs,the conventional FT frequently proceeds with the execution on the accessible working hosts.This methodology saves the execution state and applications to complete without disruption.However,the dynamicity of open cloud assets is not seen when taking scheduling choices.Existing optimization techniques are intended in dealing with resource scheduling.This method will be utilized for distributing the approaching tasks to the VMs.However,the dynamic scheduling for this procedure doesn’t accomplish the objective of adaptation of internal failure.The scheme prefers jobs in the activity list with the most elevated execution time on resources that can execute in a shorter timeframe,but it suffers with higher makespan;poor resource usage and unbalance load concerns.To overcome the above mentioned issue,Fault Aware Dynamic Resource Manager(FADRM)is proposed that enhances the mechanism to Multi-stage Resilience Manager at an application-level FT arrangement.Proposed FADRM method gives FT a Multi-stage Resilience Manager(MRM)in the client and application layers,and simultaneously decreases the over-head and degradations.It additionally provides safety to the application execution considering the clients,application and framework necessities.Based on experimental evaluations,Proposed Fault Aware Dynamic Resource Manager(FADRM)method 157.5 MakeSpan(MS)time,0.38 Fault Rate(FR),0.25 Failure Delay(FD)and improves 5.5 Performance Improvement Ratio(PIR)for 25,50,75 and 100 tasks and 475 MakeSpan(MS)time,0.40 Fault Rate(FR),1.30 Failure Delay(FD)and improves 6.75 improves Performance Improvement Ratio(PER)for 100,200,300 and 500 Tasks compare than existing methodologies.

We report on an electrostatically formed nanowire （EFN）-based sensor with tunable diameters in the range of 16 nm to 46 nm and demonstrate an EFN- based field-effect transistor as a highly sensitive and robust room temperature gas sensor. The device was carefully designed and fabricated using standard integrated processing to achieve the 16 nm EFN that can be used for sensing without any need for surface modification. The effective diameter for the EFN was determined using Kelvin probe force microscopy accompanied by three- dimensional electrostatic simulations. We show that the EFN transistor is capable of detecting 100 parts per million of ethanol gas with bare SiO2.

Green chemistry is playing an important role for synthesizing organic compounds, due to its eco-friendly nature and low cost. In green chemistry, metal nanoparticles exhibited some useful physical and chemical properties （catalytic activity）. Due to its diverse properties, nanoparticles can be utilized as a catalyst in various organic reactions. Recent research has been directed towards the utilization of eco- friendly and bio-friendly plant materials in nanoparticles synthesis. In our present work, TiO2 nanoparticles （TiO2 NPs） were synthesized using Annona squamosa peel extract and their catalytic applications were studied on the 2,3-disubstituted dihydroquinazolin-4（l1H）-one synthesis. Synthesized compounds were confirmed using FT-IR.1H NMR, 13C NMR and GC-MS analyses.

Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable metabolicderangement afflicting several millions of individuals globally. It is associated with several micro and macro-vascular complications and is also a leading cause of mortality. The unresolved issue is that of definition of the diagnostic threshold for diabetes. The World Health Organization and the American Diabetes Asso-ciation(ADA) have laid down several diagnostic criteria for diagnosing diabetes and prediabetes based on the accumulating body of evidence.This review has attempted to analyse the scientific evidence supporting the justification of these differing criteria. The evidence for diagnosing diabetes is strong, and there is a concordance between the two professional bodies. The controversy arises when describing the normal lower limit of fasting plasma glucose(FPG) with little evidence favouring the reduction of the FPG by the ADA. Several studies have also shown the development of complications specific for diabetes in patients with prediabetes as defined by the current criteria though there is a significant overlap of such prevalence in individuals with normoglycemia. Large multinational longitudinal prospective studies involving subjects without diabetes and retinopathy at baseline will ideally help identify the threshold of glycemic measurements for future development of diabetes and its complications.

Background: Nurses are very important frontline health care professionals as they spend more time with patients than other professionals. This is even more so at this critical time of the COVID-19 pandemic. The nursing profession is facing great challenges in coping with the pandemic as they are more vulnerable to exposure and infection with the disease. Kuwait is not spared from the global pandemic which has put the health sector under immense pressure. Because COVID-19 is highly transmissible and deadly, it poses a huge health risk to nurses and has a huge impact on their cognitive, emotional, behavioural and physical dimensions. Aim: The study aims to explore the positive and negative emotions and feelings of staff nurses while giving care to COVID-19 patients. Materials and Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out. 300 nurses from different general hospitals, field hospitals, and quarantine facilities in Kuwait participated in the study. A questionnaire was used to collect the data. Results: The findings show that for the cognitive evaluation, 72% were moderately affected, for the emotional evaluation 51.3% and 44% were moderately and mildly affected respectively, for the behavioural evaluation, 66.7% were severely affected, and for the physical evaluation, 43.3% and 31.7% were moderately and severely affected respectively. Prolonged working hours has a highly significant negative correlation to emotional (r −0.165), behavioral (r −0.177) and physical (r −0.155) dimension of the nurses at 0.01 level using Spearman’s correlation. Conclusion: The study concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the psychophysical dimensions of staff nurses.

背景呼吸道合胞病毒(respiratory syncytial virus,RSV)是引起婴幼儿急性下呼吸道感染最常见的病原体。此前估计,2015年全球60月龄以下儿童共发生3 310万次RSV相关急性下呼吸道感染,导致118 200人死亡。此后,几项社区监测研究获得了对RSV相关社区死亡的更精确估计。本文旨在更新2019年全球、地区和国家层面60月龄以下儿童RSV相关急性下呼吸道感染的发病率和死亡率,重点关注总体死亡率和在研RSV免疫制剂针对的更窄的婴儿年龄组。方法检索获得MEDLINE、Embase、Global Health、CINAHL、Web of Science、LILACS、OpenGrey、中国知网、万方和维普数据库2017—2020年发表文献中的新数据,并纳入RSV GEN合作者提供的未发表数据,以扩展全球RSV疾病负担数据集。纳入的研究符合以下条件:报告了社区中或需要住院治疗的60月龄以下儿童RSV原发性急性下呼吸道感染的数据;报告了至少连续12个月的数据,但院内病死率或RSV季节性定义明确的地区除外;报告了RSV相关急性下呼吸道感染的发病率、住院率、院内病死率或急性下呼吸道感染住院的RSV阳性比例。如果病例定义不明或应用不一致、RSV感染未经实验室确认或仅基于血清学检测、报告的急性下呼吸道感染病例少于50例,则排除该研究。本研究应用广义线性混合效应模型(generalized linear mixed-effects model,GLMM)估计了2019年全球和地区(按国家发展状况和世界银行收入分类)RSV相关急性下呼吸道感染的发病率、住院率和院内病死率;通过基于危险因素的模型估计了国家层面RSV相关急性下呼吸道感染的发病率;通过GLMM开发了新模型,纳入最新的RSV社区死亡率数据,用于估计RSV的总体死亡率。本综述已在PROSPERO注册(CRD42021252400)。结果除了先前综述中纳入的317项研究外,还纳入了113项符合条件的新研究以及51项未发表的研究,共计481项研究。据估计,2019年全球60月龄以下儿童中,共发生3 300万(置信区间为2 540万~4 460万)次RSV相关急性下呼吸道感染,导致360万(290万~460万)例住院、26 300(15 100~49 100)例院内死亡以及101 400(84 500~125 200)例可归因于RSV的总死亡数。在0~6个月的婴儿中,共发生660万(460万~970万)次RSV相关急性下呼吸道感染,导致140万(100万~200万)例住院、13 300(6 800~28 100)例院内死亡以及45 700(38 400~55 900)例可归因于RSV的总死亡数。60月龄以下和28 d~6月龄儿童的死亡中分别有2.0%(置信区间为1.6%~2.4%)和3.6%(3.0%~4.4%)归因于RSV。在各年龄组中,95%以上的RSV相关急性下呼吸道感染事件和97%以上的可归因于RSV的死亡事件都发生在中低收入国家。结论 RSV显著增加了全球60月龄以下儿童的发病和死亡负担,尤其是在出生后前6个月和中低收入国家。本研究强调了全球RSV疾病的总体死亡率负担,60月龄以下儿童中,每50例死亡就有1例可归因于RSV;28 d至6个月大的婴儿中,每28例死亡就有1例可归因于RSV。每1例RSV相关急性下呼吸道感染院内死亡,对应社区中约3例可归因于RSV的死亡。对6月龄内婴儿提供保护的RSV被动免疫计划有望对减轻RSV疾病负担,但实施计划时,仍需要更多数据来了解RSV疾病负担高峰可能向大龄转移的影响。
