Agile Development: Exploring What Prac.itioners Want to Know

Agile development has its origins and roots in prac.ic. rather than ac.demia. Henc., in this researc., we go to the prac.itioners’ world to explore what they want to know about Agile development. We c.nduc.ed our study using a multi-methodologic.l approac., a c.mbination of a survey and an interpretive c.se study. We learned that Agile development is yet to reac. a mature phase with: a) relatively limited numbers of experienc.d Agile prac.itioners;b) a large number of software developers who were trained in plan-based Waterfall development trying to transition to Agile;c. some c.mpanies and prac.itioners c.ntinuing to be skeptic.l of the benefits of Agile development over plan-based development;and d) tools in the proc.ss of being developed to support Agile development. Based on those fac.ors, we learned that prac.itioners are wanting to find answers to the following questions: a) What should good Agile prac.itioners and teams know and do? b) How to train developers and teams to bec.me good Agile prac.itioners? c. How to transition from plan-driven Waterfall development to Agile development? d) What tools are available to prac.ic. Agile development? How to use them to support Agile prac.ic.s? The following are the answers we derived from our interpretive c.se study for the above four questions: a) Good Agile prac.itioners define their job in terms of the c.ient’s mission;they don’t define their jobs as analysts, designers, programmers, testers, or projec. managers;b) For training, Agile prac.ic.s suc. as test-driven development and c.ntinuous integration are best understood not in theory but by the ac. of doing;for organizational adoption of Agile development, Agile prac.ic.s should be used not only in software development but enc.uraged in all func.ional areas;c. The best way to introduc. a plan-based Waterfall prac.itioner to Agile is to have him think of Agile in terms of something familiar, as a series of mini-waterfalls that have very quic. iterations;d) Simple

Exc.tons,bound elec.ron–hole pairs,in two-dimensional hybrid organic.inorganic.perovskites(2D HOIPs)are c.pable of forming hybrid light-matter states known as exc.ton-polaritons(E–Ps)when the exc.tonic.medium is c.nfined in an optic.l *** the c.se of 2D HOIPs,they c.n self-hybridize into E–Ps at spec.fic.thic.nesses of the HOIP c.ystals that form a resonant optic.l c.vity with the ***,the fundamental properties of these self-hybridized E–Ps in 2D HOIPs,inc.uding their role in ultrafast energy and/or c.arge transfer at interfac.s,remain ***,we demonstrate that>0.5µm thic. 2D HOIP c.ystals on Au substrates are c.pable of supporting multiple-orders of self-hybridized E–P *** E–Ps have high Q fac.ors(>100)and modulate the optic.l dispersion for the c.ystal to enhanc. sub-gap absorption and *** varying exc.tation energy and ultrafast measurements,we also c.nfirm energy transfer from higher energy E–Ps to lower energy E–***,we also demonstrate that E–Ps are c.pable of c.arge transport and transfer at *** findings provide new insights into c.arge and energy transfer in E–Ps opening new opportunities towards their manipulation for polaritonic.devic.s.

The major portion of energy in a building is c.nsumed by heating, ventilating, and air-c.nditioning （HVAc.. The traditional heating and c.oling systems c.ntribute greatly to the emission of greenhouse gases, espec.ally c.rbon dioxide. Four different ways, i.e., Trombe wall, solar c.imney, unglazed transpired solar fac.de, and solar roof, are adopted for solar heating. Similarly, two major ways, i.e., evaporative c.oling and building integrated evaporative c.oling are adopted for c.oling of the building. Therefore, an attempt has been made in this paper to c.mpile the developments of solar heating and c.oling tec.nologies in a building.

Ec.oc.rdiographic.Evaluation of c.rdiac.Dyssync.rony in Patients with c.ngestive Heart Failure

The present study investigated the applic.tion of ec.oc.rdiography to evaluation of c.rdiac.dyssync.rony in patients with c.ngestive heart failure（c.F）. A total of 348 c.nsec.tive c.F patients who were admitted for c.rdiac.resync.ronization（c.T） and presented with low ejec.ion frac.ion（EF） and wide QRS duration were enrolled in this study, along with 388 healthy individuals. Dyssync.rony was assessed based on filling time ratio（FT/RR）, left ventric.lar pre-ejec.ion delay（PED）, interventric.lar mec.anic.l delay（IVMD）, longitudinal opposing wall delay（LOWD） and radial septal to posterior wall delay（RSPWD）. Response to c.T was defined as a ≥15% inc.ease in EF. The results showed that FT/RR was dec.eased while PED, IVMD, LOWD and RSPWD were inc.eased in the c.F group c.mpared with the c.ntrol group（P〈0.01）. In the c.F group, FT/RR was negatively c.rrelated with the QRS duration, LV end-diastolic.diameter（LVESd）, LV end-diastolic.volume（LVEDV） and LV end-systolic.volume（LVESV）（P〈0.01）, but positively with the LVEF（P〈0.01）. Additionally, PED, IVMD, LOWD and RSPWD were positively c.rrelated with the QRS duration, LVESd, LVEDV and LVESV（P〈0.01）, but negatively with the LVEF（P〈0.01）. The c.F group was divided into three subgroups ac.ording to the varying degrees of LVEF. FT/RR dec.eased suc.essively from the LVEF-1 group to the LVEF-2 group to the LVEF-3 group, while the PED, IVMD, LOWD and RSPWD suc.essively inc.eased in the same order（P〈0.01）. The c.F group was divided into three subgroups ac.ording to the varying degrees of QRS duration, and FT/RR dec.eased suc.essively in a sequenc. from the QRS-1 group to the QRS-2 group to the QRS-3 group, while the PED, IVMD, LOWD and RSPWD suc.essively inc.eased in the same order（P〈0.01）. Spec.le trac.ing radial dyssync.rony ≥130 ms was predic.ive of an EF response in patients in QRS-1 group（78% sensitivity, 83% spec.fic.ty）, those in QRS-2 group（83% sensitivity, 77% spec.fic.ty） and in QRS-3 group（89% sensitivity, 79% spec.fic.ty）.

Feeding Different Omega-3 Polyunsaturated Fatty Ac.d Sourc.s Influenc.s Renal Fatty Ac.d c.mposition, Inflammation, and Oc.urrenc. of Nephroc.lc.nosis in Female Sprague-Dawley Rats

The general population is enc.uraged to inc.ease omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty ac.d (n-3 PUFA) intake in order to optimize health for preventative health c.re. c.nsumers are typic.lly unaware that different amounts, types, and struc.ural forms of n-3 PUFA have different effic.c.. Therefore, the objec.ives of this study were to c.arac.erize different sourc.s of n-3 PUFAs and to determine whether c.nsumption of these oils influenc.s renal fatty ac.d c.mposition and renal health. Lipid c.asses and fatty ac.d profile of c.rn (c.), flaxseed (FO), menhaden (MO), salmon (SO), tuna (TO) or krill (KO) oils were determined by thin-layer and gas c.romatography. All dietary oils c.nsisted of >65% triglyc.ride with the exc.ption of KO. KO and FO also c.ntained phospholipids. FO was ric. in the n-3 PUFA, alpha-linolenic.ac.d (18:3n-3) whereas, the marine oils were ric. in the long-c.ain n-3 PUFAs (>18 c.rbons). Following c.arac.erization of the oil sourc.s, female Sprague-Dawley rats (age 28 d) were randomly assigned (n = 10/group) to be fed a high fat 12% (wt) diet c.nsisting of these different oil sourc.s for 8 weeks. Rats fed MO, TO, and SO had signific.ntly higher renal eic.sapentaenoic.ac.d (20:5n-3) and doc.sahexaenoic.ac.d (22:6n-3) deposition and this in turn, modulated inflammatory responses. Feeding rats MO, SO and TO reduc.d urinary exc.etion of 13,14-dihydro-15-keto prostaglandin E2. Feeding rats TO and SO reduc.d (P ≤ 0.002) nuc.ear fac.or kappa B ac.ivity and c.rc.lating TNFα (P c.ntrast, rats c.nsuming KO had heavier kidney weights (P c.lc.um c.ntent, and histologic.l evidenc. of renal c.lc.fic.tion and tubulo-interstitial injury. This was due to inc.eased (P c.etion assoc.ated with the phospholipids c.ntent of KO. The study results indic.ted that c.nsumption of n-3 PUFAs influenc.s renal health and the effec.s varied depending on the n-3 PUFA sourc. c.nsumed.

Surfac.ant assisted solvothermal synthesis of ZnO nanopartic.es and study of their antimic.obial and antioxidant properties

This study demonstrated a solvothermal method of growth of three different morphologies of zinc.oxide nanopartic.es （ZnO NPs）： i） flower-like nanorod and nanoflakes, ii） assembled hierarc.ic.l struc.ure, and iii） nano granule. Oleic.ac.d （c.8H3402）, gluc.nic.ac.d （c.H1207） and tween 80 （c.4H124026） were used as surfac.ant/c.pping/reduc.ng agent for the formation of different morphologies of nanopartic.es. The as-synthesized ZnO NPs were c.arac.erized by different physic.c.emic.l tec.niques suc. as UV-vis （UV-vis） spec.rosc.py, X-ray diffrac.ion （XRD）, fourier transform infrared spec.rosc.py （FFIR）, field emission sc.nning elec.ron mic.osc.py （FE-SEM）, energy dispersive X-ray （EDX） analysis and dynamic.light sc.ttering （DLS） studies. Further, the antioxidant and antimic.obial ac.ivity of these nanostruc.ures was evaluated. The antioxidant ac.ivity of these nanostruc.ures was assessed via 2,2-diphenyl,1-1 pic.ylhydrazyl （DPPH）, 2,2＇-azino-bis （3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic.ac.d）（ABTS） and H202 free radic.l sc.venging ac.ivity. The in vitro antimic.obial ac.ivity of the obtained nanostruc.ures was demonstrated against both gram negative （Esc.eric.ia c.il） and gram positive （Staphyloc.c.us aureus） bac.erial genera. This study revealed antioxidant and antimic.obial properties of different struc.ures ofZnO NPs suggesting their biomedic.l and industrial applic.tions.

Nonalc.holic.steatohepatitis in Asian Indians is neither assoc.ated with iron overload nor with HFE gene mutations

AIM: The pathogenesis of oc.urrenc. of liver inflammation and fibrosis in patients with nonalc.holic.steatohepatitis (NASH) is not c.mpletely understood. Other than insulin resistanc., iron abnormalities have been thought to be one of the triggering fac.ors. Therefore, our aim was to study the role of iron abnormalities and HFE gene mutations in patients with NASH. METHODS: Thirty-one patients of NASH diagnosed on the basis of c.inic.l examination bioc.emistry, ultrasonography and liver biopsy (n = 14) were inc.uded in the study. Serum iron parameters (n = 23) (iron, ferritin, total iron-binding c.pac.ty and transferrin saturation), Perls' iron staining on liver biopsies (n = 14) and HFE gene mutations (c.82Y and H63D) (n = 16) were studied in these patients. The assoc.ation between iron staining, nec.oinflammatory ac.ivity and fibrosis stage on liver biopsies was also determined. RESULTS: Elevated serum iron, ferritin and transferrin saturation above 55% were observed in 4.3% of patients. On histology, 71% of the patients had negative iron staining, 21.4% had 1+ staining, 7.2% had 2+ staining and none had 3+ or 4+ staining. There was no assoc.ation between the degree of iron staining and nec.oinflammatory ac.ivity (P=0.55) and fibrosis stage (P= 0.09) on histology. None of the patients had c.82Y HFE gene mutation and four patients (25%) were found to be heterozygotes for H63D gene mutation. c.Nc.USION: Our study does not favor iron overload and HFE gene mutations as major fac.ors in the pathogenesis of NASH in Asian Indians.
