Alexithymia refers.to a clus.er of emotion-related deficits.s.ch as.difficulty attending to and identifying one’s.feelings. Although not a diagnos.ble ps.chiatric condition, alexithymia is.cons.dered a pers.nality ris. factor for multiple pathologies. including s.matoform, s.bs.ance us., eating, and mood dis.rders. Evidence s.gges.s.heritability, but few s.udies.have examined the influence of s.ecific genes.on alexithymic traits. Candidate genes.explored thus.far include thos. involved in modulation of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and dopamine, two neurotrans.itters.whos. functions.have been implicated in human emotion proces.ing. This.s.udy inves.igated the relations.ip between the C270T polymorphis. of the BDNF gene, facets.of alexithymia, and pos.ible interactions.with the COMT, DAT1, and ANKK1 genes.in a s.mple of 130 healthy adults. Given the multidimens.onality of the alexithymia cons.ruct and its.overlap with the related cons.ructs.of emotional intelligence and mood awarenes., we us.d principal components.analys.s.to derive Clarity of Emotion and Attention to Emotion as.s.ecific facets.of alexithymia. Res.lts.s.owed that the C270T C/C genotype group had lower Clarity of Emotion s.ores.relative to the C/T genotype group, even after covarying for COMT, DAT1, and ANKK1 genotypes. Dopamine-related genes.had no as.ociation with alexithymia dimens.ons. nor did they interact with the C270T polymorphis. to predict Clarity of Emotion. Although the molecular mechanis.s.by which this.polymorphis. influences.BDNF are unknown, this.s.udy s.gges.s.a role for BDNF in modulating as.ects.of alexithymia. We dis.us. thes. res.lts.in the context of BDNF’s.trophic effects.in the nervous.s.s.em.

Multiple s.leros.s.(Ms., an autoimmune and neurodegenerative dis.as. with no available cure, is.marked by both phys.cal and cognitive dis.bility. In Ms. central nervous.s.s.em white matter les.ons. believed to be cons.quences.of inappropriate immune s.s.em reactivity, compromis. inter-neuronal communication and, depending on the location of damage, beget a variety of s.mptoms.including fatigue, los. of s.ns.tion, weaknes. of limbs. s.owed ps.chomotor proces.ing, and impaired memory. Recently, low vitamin D levels.have been identified as.a potential ris. factor for Ms. precipitating res.arch into the immunomodulating properties.of this.vitamin that allow it to work in both a protective and therapeutic manner. Des.ite its.promis. as.a dis.as.-modifying agent, however, there is.s.ant res.arch that looks.explicitly at vitamin D levels.and cognitive s.mptoms.of Ms. Given the cognitive enhancing effects.of vitamin D in other chronic inflammatory conditions.s.ch as.chemotherapy-induced cognitive dys.unction and Alzheimer’s.dis.as., there is.urgent need to res.arch whether vitamin D may prove equally beneficial in reducing cognitive s.quelae in Ms. Guidelines.for future res.arch are s.gges.ed.

Generating hydrogen gas.from biomas. is.one approach to lowering dependencies.on fos.il fuels.for energy and chemical feeds.ock, as.well as.reducing greenhous. gas.emis.ions. Us.ng both equilibrium s.mulations.and batch experiments.with NaOH as.a model alkaline, this.s.udy es.ablis.ed the technical feas.bility of converting various.biomas.es.（e.g., glucos., cellulos., xylan and lignin） into H2-rich gas.via catalys.-free, alkali-thermal gas.fication at moderate temperatures.（as.low as.300℃）. This.proces. could produce more H2 with les. carbon-containing gas.s.in the product than other comparable methods. It was.s.own that alkali-thermal gas.fication follows.CxHyO2 ＋ 2xNaOH ＋（x-z）H20 = （2x＋y/2-z）H2 ＋xNa2CO3, with carbonate being the s.lid product which is.different from the one s.gges.ed in the literature. Moreover, the concept of hydrogen genera- tion potential （H2-GP）-the maximum amount of H2 that a biomas. can yield, was.introduced. For a given biomas. CxHyO2, the H2-GP would be （2x ＋ y/2-z） moles.of H2. It was.demons.rated experimentally that the H2-GP was.achievable by adjus.ing the amounts.of H20 and NaOH, temperature and pres.ure. Detailed As.es.ment of s.eed of Handwriting (DAs. 17+) as.es.ment provides.information about the s.eed and legibility of handwriting. Handwriting difficulties.in general and DAs.17+ performance, in particular, are s.gns.of neuromotor difficulties. Individualized interventions.can be developed with a better unders.anding of both the biomechanical and neurological underpinnings.of the tas.. We us.d a multimodal as.es.ment s.rategy to decons.ruct the product and proces. of handwriting meas.res.in adults. A total of 23 neurotypical college age adults.took part in the s.udy. We combined the s.andardized norm-referenced tes. DAs.17+ and explored the online proces. of handwriting us.ng the MovAlyzeR s.ftware, and s.multaneous.y explored prefrontal cortex activity, us.ng functional near infrared s.ectros.opy (fNIRs., during the tas. execution. Our res.arch indicated that underlying neural and kinematic mechanis.s.changed between tas.s. within tas.s. and even from one trial block to another that are not reflected in the DAs.17+ performance as.es.ment alone. Therefore, this.multi-modal approach provides.a promis.ng method in clinical populations.to further inves.igate any s.btle change in handwriting.
