Quantitative (stereological) study on the spermatozoal storage capacity of epididymis in rats and monkeys

Aim: To investigate the spermatozoal production rate of the testis and the spermatozoal storage capacity of the epi-didymis in monkeys and rats. Methods: The number of the late spermatids (steps 13 - 14 in the monkey or steps15 - 19 in the rat) per testis and the number of spermatozoa per epididymis were estimated in 6 normal adult monkeys(Macaca fascicularis) and 6 normal adult SD rats on 25 um-thick methacrylate-embedded sections using a contempo-rary unbiased and efficient stereological method-the optical disector. The diameter and length of the efferent ductulesand ductus epididymidis and the volume of the epididymal fluid in the tubules were also estimated. Results: The totalnumber of the late spermatids per testis was 2902 ±749 (million, x ±s) in the monkey, or 179 ±31 in the rat; thenumber of spermatozoa per epididymis was 3235 ±1835 in the monkey, or 241±76 in the rat. Conclusion: A largenumber of spermatozoa was densely packed and stored in the ductus epididymidis; the epididymal transit time for sper-matozoa was around 5 days in monkeys or 11 days in rats.

Using multiple importance sampling (MIS) technique, the optical communication system performance affected by polariza- tion-mode dispersion (PMD) and polarization-dependent loss (PDL) is simulated numerically. The power penalties and system outage probabilities are obtained for optical communication systems with on-off keying (OOK) or differential phase shift keying (DPSK) modulation. The simulation results show that DPSK always performs better than OOK. When the system has moderate PDL (about 1.5 dB), it is necessary to compensate effectively the fiber PMD in order to enhance the system tolerance to the PMD and PDL. However, the efficiency of PMD compensation will degrade rapidly when the PMD of the whole optical link drops into the low value.

The molecular dissociation energies of some electronic states of hydride and N2 molecules were studied using a parameter-free analytical formula suggested in this study and the algebraic method (AM) proposed recently. The results show that the accurate AM dissociation energies DeAM agree excellently with experimental dissociation energies Deexpt, and that the dissociation energy of an electronic state such as the 23Δg state of 7Li2 whose experimental value is not available can be predicted using the new formula.

BACKGROUND : Altered small-intestine motility, lengthening of orocecal transit time (OCTT), and small-intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) have been detected in patients with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). These changes might be related to the progressive course and poor prognosis of the disease. This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of 4-week treatment with cisapride on OCTT. METHODS: Ten NASH patients without diabetes were included. Ten healthy individuals served as controls. OCTT was measured by lactulose breath test (LBT). Anti- endotoxin core antibodies (EndoCAb) IgG were also examined. The effect of cisapride (10 mg TID during 4 weeks) on LBT and serum EndoCAb IgG levels in NASH patients was investigated. RESULTS: The NASH patients had more significantly prolonged OCTT (95±17 min) than the controls (59±18 min, P=0.00032). Cisapride administration decreased OCTT (from 95±17 min to 83±19 min, P=0.037), basal breathed H2 (from 9.87±1.60 ppm to 8.61±1.63 ppm, P=0.046) and EndoCAb IgG titers (from 5.24±0.68 GMU/ ml to 4.20±0.72 GMU/ml, P=0.013) in NASH patients. CONCLUSIONS: The present data suggest the existence of deranged intestinal motility and endotoxemia in NASH patients. Cisapride administration during 4 weeks possibly restore intestinal motility and ameliorate endotoxemia in NASH patients.

Hetianhe gasfield in Bachu region of the Tarim Basin is mainly composed of three reservoir-caprock assembly,namely regional caprock of upper mudstone,middle mudstone and lower mudstone of the Carboniferous and reservoir of Bachu bioclastic limestone,glutenite and the Ordovician carbonate buried *** gas in Hetianhe gasfield sourced from the Cambrian source *** is thought that gases in Ma4 well block in the east of Hetianhe gasfield are mainly crude-oil cracked gases,while those in Ma3 and Ma8 well blocks in the west are the mixture gases of kerogen cracked gases and crude-oil cracked *** gas is rich in H2S and accumulated in multiply stages as the result of *** accumulation history is divided into three stages,namely accumulation and breakage in the late Caledonian-early Hercynian,migration and dissipation in the late Hercynian and accumulation in Himalayan. The main accumulation of reformed gas reservoir is in Himalayan.

A 41-year-old woman presented with a pruritic rash on the face that was of 3 months duration. During that time, it had been successively misdiagnosed as psoriasis vulgaris, systemic lupus erythematosus, facial dermatitis at other hospitals, and had been treated with agents that included acitretin and prednisone. Finally, fungi were found in the lesions by optical microscopy, and the fungal culture was positive for Microsporum gypseum, and was diagnosed as a Microsporum gypseum infection. The lesions eventually cleared completely after 8 weeks of antifungal treatment.

It is usually very difficult to directly obtain molecular dissociation energy De and all accurate high-lying vibrational energies for most diatomic electronic states using modern experimental techniques or quantum theories, and it is also very difficult to give accurate analytical expression for diatomic molecular dissociation energy. This study proposes a new analytical formula for obtaining accurate molecular dissociation energy based on the LeRoy and Bernstein’s energy expression in dissociation limit. A set of full vibrational energy spectra for some electronic states of N2 molecule are studied using the algebraic method (AM) suggested recently, and the corresponding accurate molecular dissociation energies are evaluated using the proposed new formula and high-lying AM vibrational energies. The results show that the AM spectra and the new theoretical dissociation energies agree excellently with experimental data, and thereby providing a new physical approach to generating accurate dissociation energies for electronic states of diatomic molecules.

Genetic diversity and relationships of wild goat grass (Aegilops tauschii Cosson) from Iran and Xinjiang,west china,as well as its weedy type from the Yellow River region of Shaanxi and Henan provinces in china were analyzed by simple sequence repeat (SSR) fingerprints.A high level of genetic diversity in Aegilops tauschii accessions from Iran was observed,and the richness of genetic diversity was followed by accessions from Shaanxi,Henan,and *** weedy type of Aegilops tauschii showed a close genetic relationship with the wild type from different regions in *** results indicated that the weedy Aegilops tauschii found in the Yellow River region was most likely introduced from Iran—the diversity center of Aegilops *** weedy Aegilops tauschii populations found in the Yellow River region may be brought into the central part of china as a weed species together with common wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) from the West during various periods of time in *** finding has provided strong evidence for the introduction of common wheat from the West into china via the Silk Road,and also demonstrated the important role of the Silk Road in the exchange of agri- culture and other relevant technologies between china and the West.
