Experimental Study on Geometry Characteristics of Turbulent Premixed Flames for Natural Gas/Air Mixtures

In this study,focusing on the geometry characteristics of spherical expanding flame,the turbulent premixed flames of natural gas/air mixtures were investigated in a fan-stirred turbulent *** effects of initial temperature（T=300-400 K）,initial pressure（P=0.1-0.3 MPa）,turbulence intensity（u'=1.0-2.7 m/s）,oxygen volumetric percentage(φ（O2）=15%-21%) and carbon dioxide volumetric percentage(φ（CO2）=0-20%)were delved *** flame profile under the Cartesian coordinate system was derived from the schlieren images taken by the high-speed ***,from both macroscopic and microscopic perspectives,the influence of experimental conditions on the flame geometry characteristics was explored through flame front extraction,wavelet decomposition and network *** results demonstrate that for significant flame wrinkling,changes in species concentrations and turbulence intensity have more pronounced effects on the flame wrinkling *** wrinkling of the flame front maintains a certain degree of similarity,as evidenced by the locally concentrated distribution of the angles of the maximum fluctuation *** disturbance energy under large-scale（D6-D8） disturbances exhibits relatively high values with a similar trend,exerting a significant impact on the geometry characteristics of the flame *** peaks of correlation degree are scattered either with the decomposition scale or the development of flame radius,indicating no linear correlation between different detail ***,the probability distribution of node degrees in key wrinkled regions exhibits different trends with that of large-scale wrinkling and disturbance energy,especially with changes in initial *** occurs because the number of key wrinkles varies based on the perturbation's strength or the region's ***,an increase in the fluctuation frequency of the flame's local radius may not necessarily lead to an increase in the number of key folded regions.

Integrated assessment of river health based on water quality, aquatic life and physical habitat

The health conditions of Liao River were assessed using 25 sampling sites in April 2005, with water quality index, biotic index and physical habitat quality index. Based on the method of cluster analysis （CA） for water quality indices, it revealed that heavily polluted sites of Liao River are located at estuary and mainstream. The aquatic species surveyed were attached algae and benthic invertebrates. The result showed that the diversity and biomass of attached algae and benthic index of biotic integrity （B-IBI） were degrading as the chemical and physical quality of water bodies deteriorating. Physiochemical parameters, BODs, CODcr, TN, TP, NH3-N, DO, petroleum hydrocarbon and conductivity, were statistically analyzed with principal component analysis and correlation analysis. The statistical results were incorporated into the integrated assessing water quality index, combining fecal coliform count, attached algae diversity, B-IBI and physical habitat quality score. A comprehensive integrated assessing system of fiver ecological health was established. Based on the systimetic assessment, the assessed sites are categorized into 9 ＂healthy＂ and ＂sub-healthy＂ sites and 8 ＂sub-sick＂ and ＂sick＂ sites.

Catalyst-free multicomponent polymerization of sulfonyl azide,aldehyde and cyclic amino acids toward zwitterionic and amphiphilic poly(N-sulfonyl amidine)as nanocatalyst precursor

Polymers with metal coordination ability are outstanding precursors of nanocatalysts,attracting numerous attention in nanocatalysis *** has been rarely reported for the poly(N-sulfonyl amidines)as macromolecular ligands for ***,a catalyst-free multicomponent polymerization(MCP)strategy is developed to facilely prepare a library of amphiphilic poly(Nsulfonyl amidines)with zwitterionic properties starting from disulfonyl azide,hydrophilic dialdehyde and cyclic amino acids including proline and pipecolinic *** or additives can be thorougly avoided through this *** the obtained polymers have well-defined structures,high yields and weight-average molecular weights(M_(w)s,up to 99,300 g/mol).The unique zwitterionic property,amphiphilicity and Cu(Ⅰ)coordination ability of the obtained poly(N-sulfonyl amidines)endow them to form the polymer-Cu(Ⅰ)complexes as *** nanocatalysts exhibit high catalytic efficiency in aqueous Cucatalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition(CuAAC)reaction at a low Cu(Ⅰ)loading of 50 *** with a high ratio of polymers to Cu(Ⅰ)have also been demonstrated with Cu(Ⅰ)stabilization *** work provides a“green”MCP method toward zwitterionic and amphiphilic poly(N-sulfonyl amidines),and highlights their unique potentials for nanocatalysis.

Analysis of floc morphology in a continuous-flow flocculation and sedimentation reactor

The floc morphology was investigated in a continuous-flow reactor, in order to understand the evolution of flocs in practical flocculation and sedimentation processes in water utilities. Kaolin-humic acid suspension was used as the test water, and polyaluminum chloride was chosen as the coagulant. An in-situ recognition system was applied to analyze the floc size, boundary fractal dimension, and eccentricity ratios. Particle numbers and turbidity were also determined in the sedimentation stage. At a coagulant dose of 1 mg/L as Al, the average floc size increased from 62 to 78 μm and the boundary fractal dimension was around 1.14, suggesting that flocs were compact and continuously grew during the entire flocculation process. However, with the dose increased to 5 mg/L, the average floc size decreased and stabilized at around 65 μm, with the fractal dimension of 1.20. It can be concluded that the excess coagulant doses resulted in the formation of chain-shaped, lower density, and more branched structure flocs, thereby restricting flocs’ further growth in the subsequent flocculation. Floc morphology analysis suggested that charge neutralization dominated in the initial flocculation stage, then the bridge and sweep mechanisms were dominant in the subsequent flocculation. In addition, compared with the traditional inclined plate settler, a novel V-shaped plate settler introduced in this study had an advantage in small size floc（less than 5 μm） removal. The V-shaped region could promote aggregate restructuring and re-flocculation; therefore, the V-shaped plate settler provides an alternative method for sedimentation.

Small modifications of endo-functionalized cavities lead to large changes in molecular interaction in water

Studying molecular recognition in aqueous environments is crucial for understanding biological processes. Herein, we present a series of N-doped endo-functionalized anthracene-based cavities by introducing inward-directed pyridine units. The subtle modifications can significantly affect the binding properties of these receptors, which is similar to the mutations in biological systems. Combining theoretical calculations and molecular recognition experiments demonstrated that these “mutations” have an impact on the hydrophobicity and charge distribution of the hosts, consequently significantly influencing molecular *** is crucial for understanding the intricate mechanisms of molecular-level interactions in biological receptors.

Primary Exploration of the Feasibility of Passive Houses in Korea and China

The transferability of European experiences with design,planning,construction and service of Passive-Houses to the specific conditions in China and Korea is investigated by the adaptation of the PassiveHouse principle to typical Korean and Chinese residential building,by the use of locally available building materials,components and building practices as well as under consideration of specific and typical ways of living in the two countries and cultures. The starting basis for the research is the analysis and evaluation of specific climate conditions,architecture,building practice as well as specific comfort criteria. The additional effort for the construction and service of Passive-Houses in Korea and China compared with typical contemporary residential buildings is investigated on the basis of a comparison of designs for Passive-Houses and for common buildings,including issues like the heating and cooling energy demand,heat and cool load as well as the required materials and components. The research results show that the described modifications of typical contemporary residential building constructions in China and Korea are realizable with locally available materials and feasible effort. They can reduce the energy demand for the service of domestic housing significantly and are in the range of European Passive Houses.

Hydrogen sulfide(H2S) is commonly referred to as the third gasotransmitter with firmly established physiological roles. Prodrug approaches have been broadly applied to deliver H2S for various applications and mechanistic studies. Since S-persulfidation and glutathionylation are known to be important in cellular signaling by sulfur species, there have been interests in developing donors of persulfide and glutathione persulfide as well. In this review, we discuss the recent development in area of prodrugs for various sulfur species.

Published in the last year of Augusto Pinochet Ugarte’s military dictatorship saw its end,My Father(Elpadre mid)constitutes an interprofessional,collaborative work between Chile National Literature Prize winner Diamela Eltit and visual artist Lotty Rosenfeld,composed of unaltered transcriptions of three monologues(dis)articulated by a schizophrenic vagrant who referred to himself as My *** re-enacting the vagrant’s irrational utterances in a truthfill but parodic manner,Eltit and Rosenfeld“orphaned”these spoken words into a work of written literature that mocked the authoritarian voice of the dictator who had imposed himself as the Grand Orator of the Nation and the Father of *** main objective of the present work,which is principally based on the conceptualization of Mute Speech by Jacques Ranciere,is to examine the political dimension of Eltit and Rosenfeld’s aesthetic endeavor:through an exploration of the possibilities of political emancipation that the vagrant’s fatherless monologues fostered in My Father,our study demonstrates that what neoliberal civil society presupposes as objectionable animalistic noises may be capable of intervening in what Ranciere refers to as the“distribution of sensible”and its consolidated aesthetics of hierarchy,thus subverting the fable of paterfamilias and pater patriae concocted by Pinochet’s right-wing military regime.

Study on dryout point in vertical narrow annuli

Prediction of dryout point is experimentally investigated with deionized water upflowing through narrow annular channel with 1.0 mm and 1.5 mm gap respectively. The annulus with narrow gap is bilaterally heated by AC current power supply. The experimental conditions covered a range of pressure from 0.8 to 3.5 MPa, mass flux of 26.6 to 68.8 kg?m-2?s-1 and wall heat flux of 5 to 50 kW?m-2. The location of dryout is obtained by observing a sudden rise in surface temperature. Kutateladze correlation is cited and modified to predict the location of dryout and proved to be not a proper one. Considering in detail the effects of geometry of annuli, pressure, mass flux and heat flux on dryout, an empirical correction is finally developed to predict dryout point in narrow annular gap under low flow condition, which has a good agreement with experimental data.
