Tomographic PIV investigation of coherent structures in a turbulent boundary layer flow

Tomographic particle image velocimetry was used to quantitatively visualize the three-dimensional co- herent structures in the logarithmic region of the turbulent boundary layer in a water tunnel. The Reynolds number based on momentum thickness is Reo = 2 460. The in- stantaneous velocity fields give evidence of hairpin vortices aligned in the streamwise direction forming very long zones of low speed fluid, which is flanked on either side by high- speed ones. Statistical support for the existence of hairpins is given by conditional averaged eddy within an increasing spanwise width as the distance from the wall increases, and the main vortex characteristic in different wall-normal re- gions can be reflected by comparing the proportion of ejec- tion and its contribution to Reynolds stress with that of sweep event. The pre-multiplied power spectra and two-point cor- relations indicate the presence of large-scale motions in the boundary layer, which are consistent with what have been termed very large scale motions （VLSMs）. The three dimen-sional spatial correlations of three components of veloc- ity further indicate that the elongated low-speed and high- speed regions will be accompanied by a counter-rotating roll modes, as the statistical imprint of hairpin packet structures, all of which together make up the characteristic of coherent structures in the logarithmic region of the turbulent boundary layer （TBL）.

Liquefaction-induced lateral displacement is responsible for considerable damage to engineered structures during major ***,an accurate estimation of lateral displacement in liquefaction-prone regions is an essential task for geotechnical experts for sustainable *** paper presents a novel probabilistic framework for evaluating liquefaction-induced lateral displacement using the Bayesian belief network(BBN)approach based on an interpretive structural modeling *** BBN models are trained and tested using a wide-range casehistory records *** two BBN models are proposed to predict lateral displacements for free-face and sloping ground *** predictive performance results of the proposed BBN models are compared with those of frequently used multiple linear regression and genetic programming *** results reveal that the BBN models are able to learn complex relationships between lateral displacement and its influencing factors as cause-effect relationships,with reasonable *** study also presents a sensitivity analysis to evaluate the impacts of input factors on the lateral displacement.

The hybrid Janus nanomaterials have captured considerable attention since the asymmetric structure can combine the properties of each component and display synergistic ***,the precise design of the specific hybrid Janus nanostructures still remains a formidable ***,we for the first time report the fabrication of novel and highly uniform inorganic/organic hybrid Janus nanotubes via disassembling the mesoporous inorganic nanoparticles(NPs)/polystyrene-block-poly(4-vinylpyridine)(PS-b-P4VP)hybrid sheets,which are generated through the in situ reduction of functional metal precursors on the prepared PS-b-P4VP mesoporous *** importantly,the internal pore size of the hybrid Janus nanotubes can be precisely tuned by readily controlling the swelling time of the PS-b-P4VP sheet-like assemblies in a selective solvent for P4VP domains,thus generating the particular inorganic/organic hybrid Janus nanotubes with adjustable inner diameter *** believe that our finding will provide an efficient and universal route to fabricate the particular inorganic/organic hybrid nanotubes for hierarchical functional devices and nanomaterials.

Safety assessment for buried drainage box culvert under influence of underground connected aisle blasting:A case study

Blasting engineering in complex urban environments is considered to influence the safety and stability of the overlying drainage box culvert structure owing to ***,field blasting and vibration tests were performed on the blasting engineering of the Wuhan Metro Line 8 connected aisle,and the LS-DYNA software was used to analyze the dynamic response characteristics of an underground drainage box culvert during the blasting *** vibration response evolution law of the buried drainage box culvert under blasting vibration was investigated,and a safe surface control standard for the blast vibration of a drainage box culvert is *** results reveal that the maximum tensile stress of the box culvert structure was 0.33 *** peak particle velocity(PPV)and peak tensile stress(PTS)of the drainage box culvert decreased as the water level in the box culvert *** on the relationship between the tensile stress of the box culvert,PPV of the box culvert,and PPV of the surface,it is proposed that the surface control velocity of the buried drainage box culvert is 1.36 cm/s.

Decorating ketjen black with ultra-small Mo_(2)C nanoparticles to enhance polysulfides chemisorption and redox kinetics for lithium-sulfur batteries

The low sulfur utilization and fast capacity fading resulting from the sluggish redox reaction and abominable polysulfides shuttle greatly hinder the practical applications of lithium-sulfur(Li-S) ***, we develop a facile "in-situ growth" method to decorate ultra-small Mo2 C nanoparticles(USMo2 C) on the surface of Ketjen Black(KB) to functionalize the commercial polypropylene(PP) separators,which can accelerate the redox kinetics of lithium polysulfides conversion and effectively increase the utilization of sulfur for Li-S batteries. Importantly, the US-Mo2 C nanoparticles have abundant sites for chemical adsorption towards polysulfides and the conductive carbon networks of KB have cross-linked pore channels, which can promote electron transport and provide physical barrier and volume expansion space for polysulfides. Due to the combined effects of the US-Mo2 C and KB, Li-S cells employing the multifunctional PP separators modified with KB/US-Mo2 C composite(KB/US-Mo2 C@PP) exhibit a high specific capacity(1212.8 mAh g^(-1) at 0.2 C), and maintain a reversible capacity of 1053.3 m Ah g^(-1) after 100 *** importantly, the KB/US-Mo2 C@PP cells with higher sulfur mass loading of 4.9 mg cm^(-2) have superb areal capacity of 2.3 mAh cm^(-2). This work offers a novel and promising perspective for high-performance Li-S batteries from both the shuttle effect and the complex polysulfides conversion.

Maternal Bisphenol B Exposure and Mammary Gland Development of Offspring:A Time-Series Analysis

Breast cancer incidence has increased and become the world’s most prevalent cancer,which is related to abnormal development of mammary glands and thought to be influenced by environment endocrine disruptors such as bisphenol A(BPA).However,whether its substitution,bisphenol B(BPB),has similar effects remains a *** the present study,a maternal exposure model of ICR mice combined time-series RNA-seq analysis was established to explore the underlying correlation among maternal BPB exposure(300μg/kg body weight),mammary gland development,and long-term breast health in *** results showed that BPB exposure disrupted hormonal homeostasis of the female offspring but did not affect the branch development of mammary glands in a time-dependent ***,at postnatal day 90(PND90),BPB exposure resulted in duct dilatation,lobular hyperplasia,and inflammatory cell infiltration and increased the number of hormone receptor-expressing(HR+)luminal cells in ***,the differentially expressed genes in time-series analysis of RNA-seq for mammary glands of the female offspring were enriched in the morphogenesis of branching structures,branching epithelium,and branching morphogenesis of epithelial tubes,which are always considered gland ***,the results of RNA-seq also suggested that progesterone receptor(Pgr)mRNA expression in the BPB group was elevated at PND90,and breast cancer related genes such as GATA binding protein 3(Gata3)and epidermal growth factor receptor(Egfr)were also *** findings suggested that maternal BPB exposure did not accelerate mammary gland development or lead to obvious morphological anomalies of offspring,but it induced pathological changes and altered cancer related gene expression in adult offspring breast.
