Effect of phase-separated patterns on the formation of core-shell structure

Revealing the mechanisms of self-organized core-shell(C-S)structure in immiscible systems has drawn considerable attentions,however,the further and fundamental understanding from the point of view of phase-separated pattern remains extremely rare.In this work,by realizing two phase-separated patterns in transparent immiscible system,namely nucleation-growth and spinodal decomposition,their effects on radius of minority-phase droplet(MPD)were examined,and subsequently the effect on C-S structure was further determined.It was found that compared with MPDs produced via nucleation-growth,the MPDs via spinodal decomposition are much larger and easier to form a C-S structure.This is mainly because the larger MPDs can migrate faster and are earlier to reach the sample’s center.In addition,two pathways of core formation were observed during the formation of C-S structure:one evolves from a ringlike structure in the phase separation of spinodal decomposition;the other derives from the collision of numerous MPD at sample’s center.Such a difference is ascribed to the combination of different growth kinetics and the volume fractions of MPD.These findings might provide an in-depth insight into the C-S structure formation in immiscible systems.

The human gastrointestinal tract accommodates an entire micro-environment for divergent physiologic processes,the dysbiosis of this micro-ecology has a strong inter-action with the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease(IBD).In the past few years,with the advances in the understanding of microbiome,its metabolites and further application of next generation sequencing,analysis of dynamic alteration of gut micro-environment was realized,which provides numerous information beyond simple microbiota structure or metabolites differences under chronic colitis status.The subsequent intervention strategies targeting the modulation of intestinal micro-environment have been explored as a potential therapy.In this review,we will summarize the recent knowledge about multi-dimensional dysbiosis,the inter-action between fungus and bacteria under inflamed mucosa,and the clinical application of probiotics and fecal microbiota transplantation as a promising therapeutic approach in IBD.

The nuclear system is a promising area for demonstrating practical quantum advantage.A comprehensive computation of a nuclear system in a classical computer is beyond the capacity of current classical computers.With the rapid development of hardware,the prospect of using quantum computers in nuclear physics is close at hand.In this paper,we report a full quantum package,QCSH,for solving a nuclear shell model in a quantum computer.QCSH uses the linear combination of the unitary formalism of quantum computing and performs all calculations in a quantum computer.The complexities of qubit resource and the number of basic gates of QCSH are both polynomials to the number of nucleons in nuclei.For example,QCSH is used to calculate the binding energies of 12 light nuclei(i.e.,^(2)H,^(3)H,^(3)He,^(4)He,^(6)Li,^(7)Li,^(12)C,^(14)N,^(16)O,^(17)O,^(23)Na,and^(40)Ca).Moreover,we experimentally demonstrate the calculation of deuteron binding energy using a superconducting quantum processor.The result indicates that QCSH can provide meaningful results already in near-term quantum devices.

Given two graphs G and H,the Ramsey number R(G,H) is the minimum integer N such that any two-coloring of the edges of K_(N) in red or blue yields a red G or a blue H.Let v(G) be the number of vertices of G and χ(G) be the chromatic number of G.Let s(G) denote the chromatic surplus of G,the number of vertices in a minimum color class among all proper χ(G)-colorings of G.Burr showed that R(G,H)≥(v(G)-1)(χ(H)-1)+s(H) if G is connected and v(G)≥s(H).A connected graph G is H-good if R(G,H)=(v(G)-1)(χ(H)-1)+s(H).Let tH denote the disjoint union of t copies of graph H,and let G∨H denote the join of G and H.Denote a complete graph on n vertices by K_(n),and a tree on n vertices by T_(n).Denote a book with n pages by B_(n),i.e.,the join K_(2) ∨■.Erd?s,Faudree,Rousseau and Schelp proved that T_(n) is B_(m)-good if n≥3m-3.In this paper,we obtain the exact Ramsey number of T_(n) versus 2B_(2).Our result implies that T_(n) is 2B_(2)-good if n≥5.

Is there a great unconformity between Xiamaling and Longshan formations in the North China Craton?

The existence of a 0.3 Ga"great unconformity"between the Mesoproterozoic"Undefined System"Xiamaling Formation and the"Neoproterozoic"Longshan Formation has long been controversial.In this study,stratigraphy,sedimentology,detrital zircon dating,lithium isotope,and major and trace elements were applied to systematically analyze their relationship.Results demonstrate that coarse to fine sandstone-mudstone normal cycles with different grades and thicknesses exist from the Xiamaling to the Longshan formations.Sedimentary succession formed from a restricted platform with lagoon-shallow marine shelf-tidal flat-beach and tidal shoal developing in ascending order.The pebbly sandstone at the bottom of the Long shan Formation does not have the properties of basal conglomerate with tectonic significance.The youngest detrital zircon is older than 1.6 Ga for the Long shan Formation and overlying Jing'eryu Formation sandstones.In addition,no(zircon)provenance has been found from the large igneous province of 1.32-1.2 Ga in Xiamaling Formation.Theδ^(7)Li isotope values exhibit a gradually increasing trend.The Li content and CIA(Chemical index of alteration)gradually decreases from the top of the Xiamaling Formation to the lower part of the Long shan Formation.Simultaneously,as K_(2)O/Al_(2)O_(3)and FeO/Fe_(2)O_(3)decreases,Na_(2)O/Al_(2)O_(3)increases,and Li/Al,V/Cr,and V/(V+Ni)fluctuates slightly.At the boundary,the Ce/Ce^(*)and Eu/Eu^(*)show positive and negative anomalies,respectively.Further,the Rb/Sr and Al/Si values decrease,and U/Th values increase.This indicates that the geochemistry of the weathering crust at the interface of the Xiamaling Formation-Long shan Formation is not characteristic.However,it indicates a weakening of continental weathering intensity from the bottom to the top of the interface.These results do not support the existence of a large unconformity between the Xiamaling and the Longshan formations.Therefore,it is suggested that the Long shan Formation-Jing'eryu Formation should be moved to the lower l

BACKGROUND:To investigate the clinical effectiveness of a pneumatic compression device(PCD)combined with low-molecular-weight heparin(LMWH)for the prevention and treatment of deep vein thrombosis(DVT)in trauma patients.METHODS:This study retrospectively analyzed 286 patients with mild craniocerebral injury and clavicular fractures admitted to our department from January 2016 to February 2020.Patients treated with only LMWH served as the control group,and patients treated with a PCD combined with LMWH as the observation group.The incidence of DVT,postoperative changes in the visual analogue scale(VAS)score,and coagulation function were observed and compared between the two groups.Excluding the influence of other single factors,binary logistic regression analysis was used to evaluate the use of a PCD in the patient’s postoperative coagulation function.RESULTS:After excluding 34 patients who did not meet the inclusion criteria,252 patients were were included.The incidence of DVT in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group(5.6%vs.15.1%,χ^(2)=4.605,P0.05).According to logistic regression analysis,the postoperative risk of DVT in patients who received LMWH alone was 1.764 times that of patients who received LMWH+PCD(P<0.05).The area under the receiver operating characteristic(AUROC)curve of partial thromboplastin time(APTT)and platelet(PLT)were greater than 0.5,indicating that they were the influence indicators of adding PCD to prevent DVT.Excluding the influence of other variables,LMWH+PCD effectively improved the coagulation func

It is a challenging task to design collision-free control laws to ensure safety, especially in a crowded sea environment. This letter presents a collision-free pointto-point transition strategy for multiple ASVs subject to static obstacles, dynamic obstacles and neighboring ASVs based on control barrier functions(CBFs).

Archaea represents the third domain of life, with the information-processing machineries more closely resembling those of eukaryotes than the machineries of the bacterial counterparts but sharing metabolic pathways with organisms of Bacteria, the sister prokaryotic phylum. Archaeal organisms also possess unique features as revealed by genomics and genome comparisons and by biochemical characterization of prominent enzymes. Nevertheless, diverse genetic tools are required for in vivo experiments to verify these interesting discoveries. Considerable efforts have been devoted to the development of genetic tools for archaea ever since their discovery, and great progress has been made in the creation of archaeal genetic tools in the past decade. Versatile genetic toolboxes are now available for several archaeal models, among which Sulfolobus microorganisms are the only genus representing Crenarchaeota because all the remaining genera are from Euryarchaeota. Nevertheless, genetic tools developed for Sulfolobus are probably the most versatile among all archaeal models, and these include viral and plasmid shuttle vectors, conventional and novel genetic manipulation methods, CRISPR-based gene deletion and mutagenesis, and gene silencing, among which CRISPR tools have been reported only for Sulfolobus thus far. In this review, we summarize recent developments in all these useful genetic tools and discuss their possible application to research into archaeal biology by means of Sulfolobus models.

Studies have shown that per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances(PFASs)may be hepatotoxic in animals or humans.However,data on clinical epidemiology are very limited.In this study,21PFASs were determined in patients with liver diseases,with the highest median concentrations detected in the serum sample(26.7 ng/mL),followed by blood(10.7 ng/mL)and urine(5.02 ng/mL).Higher total PFAS concentrations were found in hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients compared to non-HCC patients,with significant discrepancies in serum and blood samples.Besides,significant correlations were also found among PFAS concentrations and age,gender,body mass index(BMI),and liver function biomarkers levels.For example,PFAS concentrations are significantly higher in males than in females;Several serum PFASs concentrations increase with age and BMI,while the serum perfluorohexane sulfonic acid(PFHxS)concentrations are negatively correlated with age.In addition,multiple regression models adjusted for age,gender and BMI found that increased serum perfluorobutane sulfonic acid(PFBS),perfluoroheptane sulfonic acid(PFHpS)and perfluorohexylphosphonic acid(PFHxPA)conentrations are correlated with elevated alkaline phosphatase(ALP),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),and alpha-fetoprotein(AFP)(p<0.05).Our results provide epidemiological support for the future study on the potential clinical hepatotoxicity of PFAS.
