Climate and topography regulate the spatial pattern of soil salinization and its effects on shrub community structure in Northwest China

Soil salinization may affect biodiversity and species composition,leading to changes in the plant community ***,few studies have explored the spatial pattern of soil salinization and its effects on shrub community structure at the ecosystem ***,we conducted a transect sampling of desert shrublands in Northwest China during the growing season(June–September)in *** salinization(both the degree and type),shrub community structure(e.g.,shrub density and height),and biodiversity parameters(e.g.,Simpson diversity,Margalf abundance,Shannon-Wiener diversity,and Pielou evenness indices)were used to assess the effects of soil salinization on shrub community *** results showed that the primary degree of soil salinization in the study area was light salinization,with the area proportion of 69.8%.Whereas the main type of soil salinization was characterized as sulfate saline soil,also accounting for 69.8%of the total ***,there was a significant reduction in the degree of soil salinization and a shift in the type of soil salinization from chloride saline soil to sulfate saline soil,with an increase in *** mean annual precipitation(MAP),mean annual evapotranspiration(MAE),elevation,and slope significantly contributed to soil salinization and its geochemical *** soil salinization intensified,shrub community structure displayed increased diversity and evenness,as indicated by the increases in the Simpson diversity,Shannon-Wiener diversity,and Pielou evenness ***,the succulent stems and leaves of Chenopodiaceae and Tamaricaceae exhibited clear advantages under these ***,regional climate and topography,such as MAP,MAE,and elevation,had greater effects on the distribution of shrub plants than soil *** results provide a reference for the origin and pattern of soil salinization in drylands and their effects on the community structure of halophyte shrub species.

Effects of packing particles on the partial discharge behavior and the electrical characterization of oxygen PBRs

Packed-bed reactors(PBRs)hold great promise for environmental applications,but a deeper understanding of the behavior of plasma discharge within PBRs is *** this end,a partial-discharge alternative equivalent circuit for PBRs was established in this *** particles(glass beads or glass sand)were used to place focus on the effects of the particle size and shape on the partial discharge behavior of the oxygen *** electrical characterizations were explored(*** effective dielectric capacitance,partial discharge coefficient,and corrected burning voltage)that may differ from long-standing *** findings indicate that the suppressive effect of surface discharge on filament discharge is stronger with the decrease of the particle *** partial discharge,the effective dielectric capacitance is always less than the dielectric *** corrected burning voltage and partial discharge tendency increase with the decrease of the particle *** compared to an empty reactor,the average electric field in the PBR was found to be improved by 3–4 times,and the ozone energy efficiency and production were promoted by more than 20%and 15%,*** plasma processing capacity can therefore be improved by choosing a relatively large size or a complex,irregularly-shaped packing material that is suitable for the discharge gap.

Background:Soil acidifcationn caused by anthropogenic activities may aft soil biochemical cydling,bidiversity,productivity,and multiple eosystem-related functions in ***,to date,such information is lacking to support this *** Based on a transect survey of 78 naturally assembled shrub communities,we caloulated acid deposition flux in Northwest China and evaluated its likely ecological ffets by testing three altemnative hypotheses,namely:.nidche complementarity,mass ratio,and vegetation quantity hypotheses Rao's quadratic entopy and community-weighted mean traits were employed to represent the complementary aspect of niche complementarity and mass ratio effects,***:We observed that in the past four decades,the concentrations of exchangeable base cations in soil in Northwest China have decreased significantly to the extent of having faced the risk of depletion,whereas changes in the calium carbonate content and pH of soil were not *** deposition primani ly increased the aboweground biomass and shrub density in shrublands but had no sigmificant effect on shrub richness and ecasystem multifunctionality(EMF),indicating that acid deposition had positive but weak ecological effects on dryland *** wd ghted mean of functional traits(representing the mass ratio hypothesis)correlated negatively with EMF,whereas both Rao's quadratic entropy(representing the niche complementarity hypothesis)and aboveground biomass(representing the vegetation quantity hypothesis)correlated positively but insignifcantly with *** biodiversity-EMF relationships highlight the fragility and instability of drylands relative to forest ***:The findings from this study serve as important reference points to understand the ris of soil acidification in arid regions and its impacts on biodiversity-EMF relationships.

Detection of Magnetic Field Gradient and Single Spin Using Optically Levitated nano-Particle in Vacuum

Optically levitated nano-particle with spins is a promising system for high-precision measurement and quantum information processing. We theoretically analyze the ratio between the fluctuation of particle's displacement caused by spins in magnetic field and caused by molecular collisions of the residual air. When the ratio is larger than unity, the displacement fluctuation of spins flipping can be remarkably detected. By theoretical analysis and numerical simulation, we propose and validate a scheme for the detection of gradient of the magnetic field by levitating ferromagnetic nano-particle, and also put forward a realizable detection scheme of the single spin by levitating nano-diamond particle with single nitrogen-vacancy(NV) centers.

Identification of Festuca arundinacea Schreb Cat1 Catalase Gene and Analysis of its Expression Under Abiotic Stresses

Ablotlc stresses, such as drought, high salinity, and cold/freezing, lead plants to produce excess reactive oxygen species. Catalase, a unique hydrogen peroxide-scavenging enzyme, plays a very Important role In plants. To characterize the catalase involved In plant response to ablotlc stresses, we constructed a cDNA library from 4℃-treated Festuca arundinacea Schreb seedlings and isolated a catalase gene from this library. The cDNA （FaCat1, 1 735 bp） contained an open reading frame of 1 479 bp. BLAST analysis Indicated that the deduced amino acid sequence showed 96% Identity with that from wheat TaCat1 and 87% Identity with that from maize ZmCat2. Northern blotting analysis showed an obvious Increase of FaCat1 transcripts In leaves In contrast with roots. Time-course analysis of the expression of FaCat1 in F. arundinacea leaves showed that FaCat1 expression was upregulated in cold- and salt-stressed leaves, with the FaCat1 transcripts accumulat-Ing mostly at 4 or 2 h after cold or salt stress, respectively. No significant changes in FaCat1 transcription were observed in dried leaves and inhibition of FaCat1 transcription was found In absclsic acid （ABA）-treated leaves, Indicating that the FaCat1 gene is differentially expressed during cold, high salt, drought, and ABA treatment In F. arundinacea leaves.

A Possible Form of NNS Distribution for Degenerate Spectra

To expose the statistical properties of the degenerated spectrum, with the aid of the random matrix theory, a possible form of the NNS distribution function of the degenerate spectrum was proposed by providing a solution in terms of the same-degeneracy case. The results indicate that the target spectrum is transformed into two sub-spectra： a random one and a regular one, and that the repulsion level of the regular spectrum is also decreased.
