Direct Synthesis of Graphene on Silicon at Low Temperature for Schottky Junction Solar Cells

Graphene thin films synthesized directly at low temperature (550˚C) on silicon substrate by microwave (MW) surface wave plasma (SWP) chemical vapor deposition (CVD) using the cover on substrates for avoiding plasma emission ultraviolet ray’s effect during film deposition. Analytical methods such as Raman spectroscopy, Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), four-point probe method, and JASCO V-570 UV/VIS/NIR spectrophotometer were employed to characterize the properties of the graphene films. Here, we report that it is possible to grow graphene directly on the silicon substrate (without using catalyst) due to the high radical density of MW SWP CVD. Furthermore, we fabricated graphene/silicon Schottky junction solar cells with an efficiency of up to 6.39%. Compared to conventional silicon solar cells, the fabrication process is greatly simplified;just graphene is synthesized directly on n-type crystalline Si substrate at low temperate.

Adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells （ADSCs） are a treatment cell source for patients with chronic liver injury. ADSCs are characterized by being harvested from the patient’s own subcutaneous adipose tissue, a high cell yield （ i.e. , reduced immune rejection res-ponse）, accumulation at a disease nidus, suppression of excessive immune response, production of various growth factors and cytokines, angiogenic effects, anti-apoptotic effects, and control of immune cells via cell-cell interaction. We previously showed that conditioned medium of ADSCs promoted hepatocyte proliferation and improved the liver function in a mouse model of acute liver failure. Furthermore, as found by many other groups, the administration of ADSCs improved liver tissue fbrosis in a mouse model of liver cirrhosis. A comprehensive protein expression analysis by liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry show-ed that the various cytokines and chemokines produced by ADSCs promote the healing of liver disease. In this review, we examine the ability of expressed protein com-ponents of ADSCs to promote healing in cell therapy for liver disease. Previous studies demonstrated that ADSCs are a treatment cell source for patients with chronic liver injury. This review describes the various cytokines and chemokines produced by ADSCs that promote the healing of liver disease.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection for colorectal neoplasms:A review

This paper reports the effects of iodine (Ⅰ) doping on the optical, structural and photovoltaic properties of amorphous carbon (a-C) thin-films grown on silicon and quartz substrates by microwave surface wave plasma chemical vapor deposition at low temperature (<100°C). For film deposition, Ar and CH4 were used as plasma source gases. The undoped and I-doped (post deposition doping) films were characterized by UV/VIS/NIR spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and current-voltage measurements. The optical band gap of the undoped film (3.4 eV) dropped to 0.9 eV after I-doping. The XPS results confirmed the successful doping of I in the a-C film. The Raman results indicated I-induced graphitization in the doped-film. The photovoltaic measurements show that the open-circuit voltage (V) and short-circuit current density (J) of I-doped a-C film deposited on n-type silicon substrate under light illumination (AM 1.5, 100 mW/cm) were approximately 177 mV and 1.15μA respectively and the fill factor was found to be 0.217. The use of a-C in photovoltaic solar cells is still in its infancy due to complicated microstructure of carbon bondings, high defect density, low photoconductivity and difficulties in controlling conduction type. Further research is underway to realize cheap, reasonably high efficiency and environmental friendly a-C based solar cells.

AIM:To investigate the proliferative effect of advanced glycation end-products(AGEs) and the role of their cellular receptor(RAGE) on hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) cells,and the inhibitory effects of MK615,an extract from Japanese apricot,against AGEs were also ***:Two HCC cell lines,HuH7 and HepG2,were *** of RAGE was investigated by poly-merase chain reaction,Western blotting,and flow cytemetry(FACS).The effect of MK615 on RAGE expression was also evaluated by *** proliferative effects of a control(unglycated bovine serum albumin),glucosederived AGEs(Glc-AGE),and glyceraldehyde-derived AGEs(Glycer-AGE),and the anti-proliferative effect of MK615 against AGEs,were evaluated using MTT ***:Expression of RAGE was confirmed at both the mRNA and protein levels in both HuH7 and *** revealed that the level of RAGE expression was higher in HuH7 than in *** with 0.1 μg/mL MK615 decreased the expression level of RAGE from 24.3% to 3.7% in HuH7 and from 6.2% to 4.8% in *** growth indices for the control,Glc-AGE,and Glycer-AGE were 1.06 ± 0.08,0.99 ± 0.04,and 1.38 ± 0.05,respectively,in HuH7(P = 0.037),and were 1.03 ± 0.04,1.04 ± 0.03,and 1.07 ± 0.05,respectively,in HepG2(P > 0.05).When the cells were cultured simultaneously with Glycer-AGE and MK615,MK615 abrogated the proliferative effect of Glycer-AGE in ***:Only Glycer-AGE has a proliferative effect on HuH7,which expresses a higher level of ***615 suppresses the proliferative effect of GlycerAGE on HuH7 by decreasing the expression of RAGE.

Hydraulic fracturing occurs in diverse fields of geosciences. We introduce effects of fluid buoyancy into the CGDD (Christianovich-Geertsma-DeKlerk-Daneshy) model of hydranlic fracturing. In the model, a two-dimensional one-sided crack in impermeable rock propagates from a horizontally lying wellbore or fluid reservoir at depth; the crack plane is inclined at a prescribed angle to the horizontal; incompressible and Newtonian fluid less dense than the surrounding rock is injected consecutively from the wellbore or fluid reservoir into the crack at a given injection rate. A solution of the crack propagation is obtained using lubrication theory for turbulent or laminar film flow and linear elastic fracture mechanics. The solution shows the importance of the buoyancy of the fluid in the crack as a driving force or a resisting force of the crack propagation. For example,when the water injection rate into a vertical fracture is 10-2 m2/s and the vertical length of the propagating fracture exceeds 100 m, the fluid buoyancy is important (1) as a driving force if the fracture is formed by the upward propagation of a vertical crack and (2) as a resisting force if it is formed by the downward propagation.

The number of base pairs in the 16S rRNA secondary structures of 51 bacterial sequences was counted, and the number of hydrogen bonds was estimated. The number of hydrogen bonds was highly correlated with the optimal growth temperature (OGT) rather than with the G + C content. Paired and unpaired nucleotides in mesophiles were compared to those in thermophiles. OGT exhibited a relationship with paired nucleotides but not with unpaired nucleotides. The total number of paired as well as unpaired nucleotides in mesophiles was very similar to that in thermophiles. However, the components in base pairs in mesophiles significantly differed from those in thermophiles. As compared with mesophiles, the number of G·C base pairs in thermophiles was high whereas that of A·U base pairs was low. In this study, we showed that hydrogen bonds are important for stabilizing 16S rRNAs at high temperatures.

Efficacy of tolvaptan for the patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma

To investigate the factors influenced the efficacy of tolvaptan (TLV) in liver cirrhosis. METHODSWe retrospectively enrolled 61 consecutive patients with refractory hepatic ascites. All of them had been treated with furosemide and spironolactone before admission, and treated with TLV for 7 d in our hospital. The effect of TLV was defined by the rate of body weight loss, and the factors that influenced TLV efficacy were analyzed using multiple regression. RESULTSCoexistent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was the only significant predictive variable that attenuated the efficacy of TLV. In stratified analysis, high doses of furosemide decreased the efficacy of TLV in patients with HCC, and increased efficacy in those without HCC. In the latter, a high Child-Pugh-Turcotte score had a positive influence and a high concentration of lactate dehydrogenase had a negative influence on the effectiveness of TLV. CONCLUSIONDevelopment of ascites may differ between patients with liver failure and those with HCC progression. A sufficient preceding dose of furosemide decreases diuretic effect of TLV.

Differences in Amino Acid Composition between <i>α</i>and <i>β</i>Structural Classes of Proteins

The amino acid composition of α and β structural class of proteins from five species, Escherichia coli, Thermotoga maritima, Thermus thermophilus, yeast, and humans were investigated. Amino acid residues of proteins were classified into interior or surface residues based on the relative accessible surface area. The hydrophobic Leu, Ala, Val, and Ile residues were rich in interior residues, and hydrophilic Glu, Lys, Asp, and Arg were rich in surface residues both in α and β proteins. The amino acid composition of α proteins was different from that of β proteins in five species, and the difference was derived from the different contents of their interior residues between α and β proteins. α-helix content of α proteins was rich in interior residues than surface ones. Similarly, β-sheet content of β proteins was rich in interior residues than surface ones. The content of Leu residues was very high, approximately 20%, in interior residues of α proteins. This result suggested that the Leu residue plays an important role in the folding of α proteins.
