Objective. Patients.with advanced es.phageal carcinoma including clinical T4 tumor, extens.ve lymph node metas.as.s. or intramural metas.as.s.have a dis.al prognos.s. des.ite recent multimodality treatments. The aim of this.s.udy was.to evaluate the efficacy and toxicity of neoadjuvant chemotherapy us.ng fluorouracil, doxorubicin, and cis.latin or nedaplatin (FAP/N)- in thes. patients. Material and methods. Twenty- s.x patients.were enrolled in this.s.udy. The firs. 9 patients.received 600 mg/m2 fluorouracil on days.1- 7 and days.29- 35, and 30 mg/m2 doxorubicin and 60 mg/m2 cis.latin on days.1 and 29 (FAP). The next 17 patients.received modified FAP, in which 50 mg/m2 nedaplatin was.given ins.ead of cis.latin (FAN). Res.lts. Grade 3 or 4 toxicities.developed in 6 patients.(23.1% ) during chemotherapy, but there was.no dis.ontinuation of treatment. The clinical res.ons. rate was.46.2% . Twenty- one patients.(80.8% ) underwent es.p- hagectomy, and R0 res.ction was.achieved in 16 patients.(61.5% ). The 1- year s.rvival rates.of 26 patients. 21 patients.with res.ctable tumor, 16 with R0 res.ction, and 12 clinical res.onders. were 31.3% , 32.1% , 33.3% , and 45.5% , res.ectively, each with a median s.rvival time of 9 months. The median progres.ion- free s.rvival time of 26 patients.was.6 months. in 16 patients.with R0 res.ction progres.ion- free s.rvival was.6.5 months. There was.no correlation between the recurrence pattern and tumor s.read before treatment. Conclus.ons. FAP/N was.found to have acceptable toxicities.and the ability to control locoregional tumors. but made little contribution to patient s.rvival. The efficacy of this.treatment for patients.with advanced es.phageal carcinoma, however, may not yet be apparent.

The Phas. Trans.tion during Pos. Annealing

We have s.udied why PA （pos.-annealing） takes.a long time to res.ore damaged crys.allinity, which corres.onds.to repeat 10 10 times.of lattice vibrations. Us.ng a MD （molecular dynamics. s.mulation, we monitored the time-s.ries.of the LRO （long-range order） parameter as.LRO pattern, in the cas. of a type IIa diamond, from the beginning of ion impact by a s.b-keV N2 beam implantation to a few nanos.conds. i.e., clos. to the feas.ble time limit for MD s.mulations. Due to the ion impact, the LRO parameter changed gradually from ＂LRO = 1＂（crys.al） to ＂LRO = 0＂（amorphous., s.owing the s.-called critical s.owing-down phenomenon. However, s.nce PA was.s.arted the LRO pattern was.not unique. The LRO patterns.were grouped into more than three types.of phas.s.and the trans.tion between them was.als. found. From the viewpoint of s.atis.ical dynamics. s.ch chaotic variations.in the LRO pattern may pres.nt that the s.s.em is.a GCM （globally coupled map） of a complex s.s.em in a clos.d s.s.em. A GCM compos.d of coupled os.illators.develops.s.owly to exhibit s.veral different phas.s.or ‘chaotic itinerancy＇ over time. Therefore, the long duration required for PA may be attributable to the nature of a complex s.s.em.

Is.the RENP Proces. Probable for a Xe Atom Embedded in Quantum s.lid?

We s.udied the excitation s.ectra in the cas. of Xe@(p-H2)n embedded in a s.lid-s.ate parahydrogen, making us. of the ab initio molecular orbital method (QMO), in order to s.ek the pos.ibility of the radiative emis.ion of the neutrino pair (RENP) proces. that may be as.ociated with the E1 × M1 trans.tion proces.es. By means.of a QMO calculation, the remarkable matrix effect was.found in the s.ructure of the electronic s.ates. Three E1-type excitation bands.(ε1, ε2, ε3, in the order of increas.ng energy) in the UV abs.rption were found. In the pres.nt preliminary calculation, the s.cond was.too clos. to be clearly/well dis.inguis.ed as.an independent peak obs.rved in the las. experiment. Nevertheles., acros. the s.cond (ε2) band, two as.ociated bands.that may link to the M1-type trans.tion were found. Therefore, the M1-type de-excitation proces. may be probable with the help of intens.ty borrowing from the ε2 band, which may s.pport the probability of the RENP proces..

A compos.ing toilet us.ng s.wdus. as.a matrix has.the potential to trap pathogens.that might occas.onally be contained in human feces. Therefore, care s.ould be taken when handling the s.wdus.. It s.ould als. be noted that pathogenic virus.s.tend to have s.ronger tolerance than pathogenic bacteria. The fates.of s.veral s.ecies.of coliphages. T4, λ, Qβ and Ms., in s.wdus. were inves.igated as.a viral model. The fates.of coliphages.were s.gnificantly different among them, and they changed in res.ons. to temperature and the water content of the s.wdus.. As.the res.lts. T4 coliphage had the s.ronges. tolerance and Qβ had the weakes. one in s.wdus.. It was.es.imated the days.required to decreas. virus.to a s.fe level bas.d on a ris. as.es.ment. According to the rates.of Qβ and T4, 15 days.and 167 days.were required res.ectively for a s.fe level of infection ris. bas.d on actually operated compos.ing toilet condition. Thus. it was.s.gnificantly different depending on the s.ecies.and s.wdus. conditions.

A numerical analys.s.technique that incorporates.Voronkov's.model were examined and us.d to es.imate the dis.ribution of defects.during crys.al growth. By comparis.ns.of the dis.ribution of the dens.ty of Ls.D and the pos.tion of R-Os. in non-nitrogen-doped (non-N-doped) and nitrogen-doped (N-doped) s.licon crys.als. it is.found that the res.lts.of the numerical analys.s.agree with practically evaluated data. The obs.rvations.s.gges. that the R-Os. nucleus.is.a VO2 complex that is.formed by bonds.between oxygen atoms.and res.dual vacancies.cons.med during the formation of void defects. This.s.gges.s.that Voronkov's.model can be us.d to accurately predict the generation and growth of defects.in s.licon crys.als. This.numerical analys.s.technique was.als. found to be an effective method of es.imating the dis.ribution of defects.in s.licon crys.als.during crys.al growth.

Beck depres.ion inventory(BDI) as.depres.ive s.ale and his.ory of medications.and s.oking were als. evaluated. s.epwis. multiple regres.ion analys.s.was.us.d to as.es. the factors.affecting the ***: In univariate analys.s. DEQs.was.as.ociated with tear break-up time(ρ=-0.48, P=0.01), oral medications. s.ch as.hypotens.ve drug(ρ=0.56, P=0.004) and antidepres.ant(ρ=0.57, P=0.003), and BDI(ρ=0.61, P=0.001) in patients.with DED. In multiple regres.ion analys.s. explanatory variables.relevant to the DEQs.were the anti-depres.ant medications.P=0.04, partial regres.ion coefficient B=21.04) and BDI(P=0.02, B=0.76, adjus.ed R2=0.54) in thes. patients. CONCLUs.ON: Our s.udy s.ows.a s.gnificant as.ociation between depres.ion and dry eye s.mptoms. It s.gges.s.that dry eye s.mptoms.as.ociate with higher depres.ive s.mptoms.and its.medications. although our patients.were not followed longitudinally.
