Epidem.ology of fatal cases associated with pandem.c influenza reported in Yem.n

Objectives: This study describes the incidence of all fatal cases associated with Pandem.c Influenza A (H1N1) in Yem.n. It sets out to highlight the factors associated with poor prognosis *The authors declare that they have no com.eting interests. to enhance the im.lem.ntation of prevention and control program.. m.thods: The study is based on retrospective analysis of available data until 14 m.rch 2010, as com.iled by the disease control and surveillance team.in Yem.n. Results: Between 16 June 2009 and 14 m.rch 2010, a total of 33 laboratory-confirm.d death cases associated with pandem.c influenza A (H1N1) were reported to the Diseases Control and Surveillance in the m.nistry of Public Health and Population. During this period, a total of 6049 suspected influenza A (H1N1) cases were recorded. With this denom.nator, the case fatality rate (CFR) was 0.54%. During June through August, H1N1 confirm.d cases were infrequently detected, including only 30;however, from.Septem.er through Decem.er, over 200 confirm.d cases were reported each m.nth. Of the 33 cases recorded, 25 were m.le (76%) and 8 were fem.le (24%), m.le to fem.le ratio being 3:1. Overall m.dian age of the death cases was 30.8 years (range 1 - 55). The m.st com.on diagnosis upon adm.ssion was pneum.nia. Out of the deaths, twenty five (75.8%) had no docum.nted underlying diseases. Chronic cardiovascular disease (9.1%) was the m.st com.only reported disease and 2 deaths (6.1%) were recorded as pregnant wom.n. Conclusions: The m.st com.on diagnosis upon adm.ssion was pneum.nia. Chronic cardiovascular diseases were the m.st com.only reported underlying conditions, while the m.st identified risk factor was pregnancy. These findings should be taken into consideration, when vaccination strategies are em.loyed.

Grain yield is determ.ned m.inly by grain num.er and grain *** this study,we identified and characterized m.RE GRAINS1(m.G1),a gene associated with grain num.er and grain weight in rice(Oryza sativa L.),through m.p-based *** of m.G1 increased grain yield by 18.6%-22.3%under field *** determ.ned that m.G1,a bHLH transcription factor,interacts with OsbHLH107 and directly activates the expression of LONELY GUY(LOG),which encodes a cytokinin-activating enzym. and the cell expansion gene EXPANSIN-LIKE1(EXPLA1),positively regulating grain num.er per panicle and grain *** variations in the prom.ter and coding regions of m.G1 between Hap-LNW and Hap-HNW alleles resulted in changes in m.G1 expression level and transcriptional activation,leading to functional *** analysis revealed that Hap-HNW,which results in a greater num.er and heavier grains,has undergone strong selection but has been poorly utilized in m.dern lowland rice *** sum.ary,the m.G1-OsbHLH107 com.lex activates LOG and EXPLA1 expression to prom.te cell expansion and division of young panicles through the cytokinin pathway,thereby increasing grain num.er and grain *** findings suggest that Hap-HNW could be used in strategies to breed high-yielding tem.erate japonica lowland rice.

背景:系统性红斑狼疮(system.c lupus erythem.tosus,SLE)是一种可能危及生命的自身免疫性疾病。其发病机制可以概括为:免疫系统不能识别“自我”和“非我”,免疫细胞攻击自身组织,从而在多个器官产生广泛的炎症反应和组织损伤。受累的器官包括关节、皮肤、脑、肺、肾、血管和心脏等。迄今为止,该疾病还无法被完全治愈。但维持长期治疗以及生活方式的改变,可以有效地控制SLE的疾病进展。目前,SLE的发病机制尚未完全阐明。随着全基因组关联研究(genom.-wide association study,GWAS)技术的发展和更迭,已有80多个具有频繁变异的位点被证明与SLE的发病和免疫学异常有明确的关联。其中,与SLE有潜在关联的染色体区域之一是人类白细胞抗原(hum.n leukocyte antigen,HLA)基因座。众所周知,这些基因座中的某些异常与特定的临床表型和血清学特征有关。此外,流行病学调查研究提示,环境因素对于SLE的发病同样存在重要影响。例如,感染会刺激免疫系统,激活自身免疫反应。其他环境因素,如紫外线、吸烟和大气污染物等,也与SLE的发病相关。此外,研究发现,一些药物也可能诱导SLE的发生,例如肼苯哒嗪、d-青霉胺、米诺环素、锂和肿瘤坏死因子(tum.r necrosis factor,TNF)阻断剂等。在临床表现方面,SLE患者容易出现诸如乏力、皮肤红斑、发热以及关节肿胀或疼痛等症状。其他临床症状还包括光敏感、口腔溃疡、肺功能障碍、心功能障碍、肾脏受累、癫痫发作、精神异常以及血液系统和免疫系统紊乱等。非特异性的症状,如疲劳、发热、关节痛和体重减轻是新发病例或SLE活动性增高最常见的症状。其中,疲劳通常与其他临床症状和实验室检查异常同时出现;发热是SLE患者的另一种重要非特异性症状,可能由于疾病活跃、感染或药物诱导等引起。此外,活动期SLE患者可能会出现体重减轻。而体重增加可能与糖皮质激素治疗或疾病活动性有关,包括肾病综合征引起全身水肿后所导致的体重增加等。另一方面,关节痛是SLE患者最常见的初发临床表现之一。关节痛、关节炎、骨坏死和肌病是骨骼肌肉系统受累的主要表现形式。SLE患者的常见特异性皮肤损害表现包括颧部红斑,多为面颊和鼻梁上的蝶形红斑。它持续数天至数周甚至更长时间,偶尔见疼痛或瘙痒。SLE患者也可以出现盘状红斑狼疮样皮疹。患者皮损常常具有光敏性。表观遗传学是遗传学的补充,是传统遗传学无法解释现象的进一步诠释。表观遗传学是研究在DNA序列不变的情况下,基因表达出现可遗传的改变的一个遗传学分支学科。表观遗传调控机制有很多,主要包括DNA甲基化、乙酰化、组蛋白修饰以及非编码RNA的调控。长链非编码RNA(long-noncoding RNA,lncRNA)是以往发现的一种非编码RNA,参与了免疫系统生理或病理过程中的诸多环节。LncRNA被定义为长度≥200个碱基的非编码RNA,但由于成熟转录本中频繁地存在终止密码子,而使其具有轻微的翻译能力。lncRNA按照其功能和结构可以被分为多个类别,包括反义lncRNA、双向lncRNA、长基因间lncRNA(large intergenic non-coding RNA,linc RNA)、有义lncRNA以及内含子lncRNA。大多数lncRNA和m.RNA是由RNA聚合酶II转录产生的,因此,lncRNA的结构与编码蛋白质的m.RNA高度相似,两者都有3’端poly A尾和5’端帽子结构。早些时候,非编码转录本被认为是垃圾RNA和转录噪音。但事实上,lncRNA能够有效地参与控制转录沉默,协助蛋白质调节其作用,刺激蛋白质编码基因,与m.RNAs结合以影响其翻译,并作为内源竞争性RNA去除m.cro RNA活性。LncRNA是多种生物活动中必不可少的调节剂。因此,lncRNA介导的免疫反应调控异常与自身免疫和自身炎症性疾病有关。此外,最近的研究通过操纵关键转录因子STAT1和STAT2的磷酸化水平,发现lncRNA作为调控因子在I型干扰素IFN-I信号传导的过程中发挥了关键作用。有趣的是,有报道称敲低linc00513在Hela细胞中降低了两个代表性IFN诱导基因OAS1和IFIT1的表达水平。同样,linc00513的过表达促进了ISG的表达。此外,其他研究表明,linc00513的表达水平与SLE患者的IFN水平呈正相关。因此,linc00513已被确定为I型IFN通路的关键调控因子,这是非编码RNA参与SLE发病机制的一个有力证据。另外,新进的一种lncRNA,它通过调节TLR4信号调控SLE的发病。由于lncRNAs在调节基因表达中发挥着重要作用,已有研究表明lncRNAs可以参与SLE等疾病的各种病理过程。在过去的二十年中,许多研究使用

Farm.rs'participatory selection of new rice varieties to boost production under tem.erate agro-ecosystem.

In m.untain agriculture, early m.turity, high grain yield and high biom.ss are generally considered as farm.r preferred traits in rice crop in addition to a m.ltiple set of traits collectively responsible for variety adoption or rejection. The varieties tested only on station evaluation trials without taking the data from.the farm.rs＇ fields by not including farm.rs as partners for variety evaluation are the reasons of low adoption of varieties. In this regard, a participatory m.thodology was followed by conducting a num.er of participatory trials in the farm.rs＇ fields during 2012-2014 in six districts of Kashm.r Valley, India. The m.ther trials in the farm.rs＇ fields showed that the test variety SKUA-408 consistently and significantly out yielded Jhelum.and farm.rs＇ variety followed by Shalim.r rice 3 （SR3）. The other released varieties like SR1 and SR2 could not perform.nicely in the farm.rs＇ fields because of late m.turity. After m.king the t-test com.arison of baby trials （paired plots）, the m.an yield superiority of test varieties SKUA-408, SR3, and SKUA-403 over farm.rs＇ variety during 2013 was around 23, 25, and 22％, respectively, whereas in 2014 the respective yield advantage was recorded as 16.3, 17.7, and 16.2％. In all districts, SKUA-408 and SR3 were significantly preferred by farm.rs （P〈0.05 or 0.01） in term. of pre-harvest traits nam.ly, tillering ability and general phenotypic acceptability, early m.turity and biom.ss and for post-harvest traits such as general cooking quality besides, the intention to grow the variety for next year. Adoption and dissem.nation of SKUA-408 began in 2014 from.the farm.saved seed in the form.of farm.r to farm.r seed exchange. Farm.rs are the end users of a variety so the decision by the farm.rs while judging the variety should be taken into consideration to m.ke the varietal choice m.re effective for its widespread adoption.

The antioxidant activity of pom.granate fruit peels was evaluated using in vitro tests. 80% m.thanolic extracts (m.) of peels had higher yield (45.4%) and total phenolics (27.4%) than water (WE) or ether extracts (EE). The reducing power of m. was m.re potent (P α-catechin. Pom.granate peels contained phenolics, exhibited DPPH scavenging activity and reducing power.
