Knowledge, attitudes and practice survey on Zika virus infection among pregnant women in Brunei Darussalam

To assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practices(KAP) on Zika virus infection among pregnant women in Brunei Darussalam by a cross-sectional survey. Methods: Between February and June 2017, we recruited 234 pregnant women from all government healthcare centres at Brunei-Muara district, using a modified systematic sampling approach. A pre-tested and self-administered questionnaire was used and data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and multiple logistic regression analyses. Results: The study participants were mainly Malay(87.2%) and their mean age was 28.0 years. The median knowledge score was 13, out of a possible score of 28. Most participants(92.7%) knew that Zika virus was transmitted by mosquito bites whereas some(34.6%) knew that sexual transmission was also possible. Media(radio, television or newspapers) was the preferred source of updated information on Zika virus, followed by healthcare workers(44.0%), government announcements(43.2%), and social media(38.0%). Pregnant women who were 25 years old or older [Adj. OR=3.62(95% CI: 1.57, 9.51)], not Malays [Adj. OR=3.32(95% CI: 1.35, 8.55)], and had an average monthly household income of more than BND $3 000 [Adj. OR=4.06(95% CI: 1.81, 19.44)] were more likely to score higher for knowledge on Zika virus. The median prevention practice score was 23, out of a possible score of 36. Most participants reported wearing covering clothes(98.3%) and kept their living surroundings clean(99.6%). Most participants(88.0%) agreed that Zika is an important issue in their community. Conclusion: We found a lack of knowledge on Zika virus infection among pregnant women attending government maternal and child healthcare centres in Brunei Darussalam, in particular that Zika virus can be sexually transmitted. Such information could be well disseminated at the healthcare centre level. Weaverbirds are a speciose group of colorful passerines inhabiting the Old World ***,the Oriental weaverbirds(Ploceus spp.),widespread across southern Asia,are much less diverse and restricted to a few ecological niches compared to their African *** investigate their phylogeography,we retrieved 101 samples of Baya Weaver(***),Streaked Weaver(***),Black-Throated Weaver(***)and Asian Golden Weaver(***)along with GenBank sequences of Finn's Weaver(***).We reconstructed the first molecular phylogeny based on a dataset consisting of both mitochondrial and nuclear genes,dating the most recent common ancestor of Oriental Ploceus to~11 *** speciation appears to have been a combination of divergence within the Indian subcontinent and dispersal across a barrier situated between the Indian subcontinent and the Indochinese region,which provided habitats with a varying degree of isolations and ultimately promoted divergences in *** descendants of the earliest nodes,*** and ***,are both rare and local,often found near large river systems,which perhaps reflects niche conservatism and a lack of adaptive *** three smaller species are all widespread,common and less habitat *** most recent divergence,between western and eastern *** populations,is supported by both phylogenetic and morphological evidence,pointing toward limited gene flow between ***,a zone of intergradation may exist in Myanmar and Brahmaputra flood plains,thus preventing a recommendation for species level recognition without further study.

Translation and validation of the Malay version of the short-form DASS-21 for the epidemiology survey of working population

Increasing occurrences of mental health problems such as depression,anxiety and stress amongst workers presents practical demands for employers and occupational health practitioners to assess the self-perceived depression,anxiety and stress in workers with reliable and valid *** present study aims to validate the Malay version of the short form Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-21) among Malaysian workers designed to screen the self-reported of depression,anxiety and stress among workers in ***-eight workers of two major automotive assembly plants in Pekan,Pahang consented to participate in the study and was administered the Malay version of the *** (English-Malay) and back translation (Malay-English) of the DASS-21 was made to ensure the face validity of the *** was determined using Cronbach's alpha for internal consistency whilst construct validity was assessed using the exploratory factor analysis (principal component analysis with varimax rotation).The results indicated that the Cronbach's alpha coefficients were acceptable for DASS-Depression (0.81),DASS-Anxiety (0.85) and DASS-Stress (0.85).Exploratory factor analysis showed three meaningful common factors that could explain the three theoretical dimensions or constructs of the *** validation study suggests that the Malay version of DASS-21 is reliable and valid screening instruments for assessing self-reported depression,anxiety and stress in Malaysian working population.

为明确棉铃虫Helicoverpa armigera丝氨酸蛋白酶抑制剂(serine protease inhibitor,serpin)的种类及其表达特性,利用PCR技术克隆棉铃虫的serpin基因,使用生物信息学软件预测其结构并进行系统进化分析,采用实时荧光定量PCR(real time quantitative PCR,RT-qPCR)技术比较serpin基因在棉铃虫不同发育阶段和组织中的表达量及取食Cry1Ac后其表达量的变化。结果表明,共获得serpin-a、serpin-b、serpin-c、serpin-e四个棉铃虫serpin基因,全长为1119~1254 bp,编码373~418个氨基酸,均包含一段具有反应中心环的保守结构域,且与斜纹夜蛾Spodoptera litura、草地贪夜蛾***等鳞翅目昆虫serpin的同源性较高。serpin-a和serpin-e在棉铃虫4龄幼虫期的表达量最高,serpin-b和serpin-c分别在成虫期和蛹期表达量最高。serpin-a在中肠和围食膜中表达量最高,serpin-b在头、中肠和表皮中表达量最高,serpin-c在头部表达量最高,serpin-e在中肠和血淋巴中的表达量显著高于其他组织。棉铃虫取食低浓度Cry1Ac后,中肠的serpin-b和serpin-e的表达量显著增加。推测不同serpin基因在棉铃虫不同发育时期和组织中可能发挥不同的作用,其中serpin-b和serpin-e可能参与棉铃虫对Cry1Ac的解毒过程。

Early Carboniferous magmatic rocks in eastern Myanmar: implications for the Tethyan evolution

Eastern Myanmar is the key position linking between SW Yunnan and northern Thailand for better understanding of Tethyan evolution. However， the actual location and evolution of the Tethyan suture zone are still unclear in eastern Myanmar. The present study focuses on the geochronological， geochemical and zircon Lu-Hf isotopic study on the plutonic rocks， including granite， diorite and gabbroic rocks， from the Tachileik area， eastern Myanmar. These plutonic rocks yielded zircon U-Pb weighted mean ages of ca. 353-355Ma， suggesting the Early Carboniferous emplacement. The Tachileik granites are high-K calc-alkaline， weakly peraluminous and have low P2O5contents， which are typical features of I-type granites. They have positive zircon εHf（t）values （+4.5 - +7.4） with TDM2ages of 981-825 Ma， indicating a juvenile mafic lower crust source. The Tachileik gabbros and diorites show high Al2O3contents and Mg#， but low TiO2and K2O contents， belonging to tholeiitic and calc-alkaline basalt series. They are characterized by enrichments in large ion lithophile elements （LILEs， e.g.， Rb， Ba and Sr）， depletions in high field strength elements （HFSEs） and distinctly negative Nb and Ta anomalies， similar to the volcanic arc basalt. The zircon Hf isotopic （+4.7 - +7.1） and whole-rock geochemical data imply that the Tachileik gabros and diorites probably resulted from partial melting of lithospheric mantle in the spinel stability field within an arc-related setting. The magmatic rocks can be grouped to the Late Devonian-Early Carboniferous magmatic rock and pyroclastic rock zone from SW Yunnan to northern Thailand based on their age and geochemical characters. The zone was formed in the post-collisional extension-related tectonic setting of the Proto-Tethys. This study provides important evidence for the evolution of The Proto-Tethys in southwest Yunnan and Southeast Asia.

氨肽酶N(APN)是锌金属蛋白酶M1家族的成员,鳞翅目昆虫中肠刷状缘膜囊泡(brush border membrane vesicles,BBMV)细胞膜上的APN不仅在蛋白消化吸收过程中起着重要的作用,而且是Bt的重要受体蛋白。本研究通过PCR技术克隆得到7条棉铃虫APN基因全长序列,HaAPN1~7(Genbank登录号为MT002819~MT002825)。经生物信息学分析,HaAPN1~7全长为2592~3099 bp,编码863~1032个氨基酸,分子量为110~115 kDa,等电点为4.7~6.4,N端信号肽为15~20 aa。系统进化分析结果表明,HaAPN1~7分属于Class 1~7类别。RT−qPCR结果表明,在敏感棉铃虫5龄幼虫中肠中APN2的表达量最高,APN7的表达量最低;Cry1Ac抗性品系棉铃虫中各类APN的表达趋势与敏感品系一致。取食Cry1Ac、Cry2Ab和Vip3Aa蛋白后棉铃虫中肠APN活性显著降低,取食Cry1Ac和Vip3Aa蛋白后中肠液和BBMV中APN活性都显著降低,而取食Cry2Ab蛋白后只有BBMV上APN活性显著降低;棉铃虫对Cry1Ac、Cry2Ab和Vip3Aa产生耐受性后,中肠液和BBMV中APN活性也都发生显著变化。因此,不同类别的棉铃虫APN在Bt的杀虫机制中可能起到不同的作用,APN活性变化可能与Bt蛋白的降解及抗性演化相关。

Chronic kidney disease in children and adolescents in Brunei Darussalam

AIM： To determine epidemiology of Bruneian paediatric chronic kidney disease （CKD） patients and factors that affect growth and progression of ***： A cross-sectional study conducted on all children below 18 years old who were diagnosed with CKD over a ten year period （2004 to 2013）. The reference population was all children （〈 18 years old） suffering from CKD and attending the tertiary paediatric nephrology clinic in Brunei Darussalam. Demographic （current age, age of diagnosis, gender, ethnicity）, anthropometric （weight and height）, diagnosis, laboratory data （serum creatinine and haemoglobin, urinalysis） and blood pressure were extracted from the patients’ clinical case notes and recorded using a data collection ***： The study revealed a high national prevalence [736 per million child population （pmcp）] and incidence （91 pcmp） of CKD. If CKD was defned at Stage 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5, the associated prevalence fgures were 736, 132, 83, 50 and 33 pmcp. Glomerulonephritis accounted for 69% of all prevalent cases, followed by congenital abnormalities of kidney and urinary tract （20%） and tubulointerstitial diseases （8%）. Minimal change disease being the most common histological diagnosis. The median age of diagnosis was 4.5 years, with congenital disease patients experiencing an earlier onset of diagnosis. A large proportion of patients were below the 5% percentile for height and weight. Non-glomerular diseases, adolescent and female patients were significantly associated with poor growth, but not glomerular filtration rate, age of diagnosis or steroid usage. CONCLUSION： Brunei has a high prevalence of chronic kidney disease in the paediatric population with glome-rulonephritis being the most common disease.

Epipelagic mesozooplankton communities in the northeastern Indian Ocean off Myanmar during the winter monsoon

The northern Andaman Sea off Myanmar is one of the relatively high productive regions in the Indian *** abundance,biomass and species composition of mesozooplankton and their relationships with environmental variables in the epipelagic zone(~200 m)were studied for the first time during the Sino-Myanmar joint cruise(February 2020).The mean abundance and biomass of mesozooplankton were(1916.7±1192.9)ind./m3and(17.8±7.9)mg/m3,respectively.A total of 213 species(taxa)were identified from all *** omnivorous Cyclopoida Oncaea venusta and Oithona *** the top two dominant *** mesozooplankton communities were determined via cluster analysis:the open ocean in the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal(Group A),the transition zone across the Preparis Channel(Group B),and nearshore water off the Ayeyarwady Delta and along the Tanintharyi Coast(Group C).Variation partitioning analysis revealed that the interaction of physical and biological factors explained 98.8%of mesozooplankton community spatial variation,and redundancy analysis revealed that column mean chlorophyll a concentration(CMCHLA)was the most important explanatory variable(43.1%).The abundance and biomass were significantly higher in Group C,the same as CMCHLA and column mean temperature(CMT)and in contrast to salinity,and CMT was the dominant *** taxon spatial variations were controlled by CMCHLA,salinity and *** study suggested that mesozooplankton spatial variation was mainly regulated by physical processes through their effects on *** physical processes were simultaneously affected by heat loss differences,freshwater influx,eddies and depth.

We aimed at reporting the chemical constituents and antimicrobial activities of Leea aequata L.,a traditional folk medicine used in Myanmar for the treatment of wounds and skin diseases.A new neolignan,(7S,8R)-9′-O-acetylcedrusin(1),a new lactam,(3S,4S)-4-chloro-3-hydroxypiperidin-2-one(2),along with 21 known compounds,including fve lignans(3-7),four favonoid glycosides(8-11),and others(12-23),were isolated from the ethanoic extract of the aerial parts of *** structures of the new compounds were determined by NMR,MS,and ECD *** all the antimicrobial tests of the 23 compounds,only 3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid ethyl ester(17)showed weak inhibitory activities against Escherichia coli and Salmonella enterica ***.
