Genotypic characterization of Helicobacter pylori isolates among Egyptian patients with upper gastrointestinal diseases

Objective： Over 50% of the world populations are infected with Helicobacter pylori （H. pylori）. Most subjects are asymptomatic; however, in 1994, H. pylori has been categorized as group I carcinogen. The aim of the study was to investigate the relationship between H. pylori infection and gastric cancer. Methods： Thirty gastric cancer patients （GCs） and 30 gastritis patients were enrolled in the study. H. pylori was cultured on non-selective and selective medias, infection density was assessed by quantitative culture. Antibiotic sensitivity testing was performed. PCR was done for the H. pylori 16S rRNA gene in addition to cagA, vacA and iceA genes. Results： H. pylori could be cultured from 100% of specimens obtained from all patients. The density of H. pylori was higher in cancer cases than in gastritis patients. The 16S rRNA was detected in all GC patients （100%） while it was only detected in 70% of gastritis patients. The cagA gene was found in 53.3% vs 13.3% of GC and gastritis patients, respectively. The vacA gene was present in all GC patients （by at least one of its alleles） while it was only found in 33.3% of gastritis patients. The vacA slml combination was the most predominant genotype in GC patients, while m2 was the commonest allele in gastritis patients （10%）. The iceA gene was found in 86.7% vs 40% of GC and gastritis patients, respectively. Simultaneous presence of multiple H. pyiori strains was proved, both phenotypically and genotypically. Conclusion： The development of GC is linked to infection with H. pylori harboring certain virulence genes. Higher infection density of H. pylori was found in GC patients. Co-existence of more than one strain of H. pylori in the same patient occurs in both malignant and benign lesions.

Wave properties of solitons in an unmagnetized four-component dusty plasma system contains isothermal distributed electrons, mobile ions, and negative-positive dusty grains have been examined. To study dIA wave properties,a reductive perturbation (RP) analysis is used. By a reductive perturbation (RP) analysis under convenient coordinate transformation, the three dimension Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation in cylindrical coordinates is obtained. The effects of dust grain charge on soliton pulse structures are studied. More specifically, solitary profile depending on the axial,radial, and polar angle coordinates with time is discussed. This investigation may be viable in plasmas of the Earth’s mesosphere.

3-Bromopyruvate(3BP) is a new, promising anticancer alkylating agent with several notable functions. In addition to inhibiting key glycolysis enzymes including hexokinase II and lactate dehydrogenase(LdH), 3BP also selectively inhibits mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, angiogenesis, and energy production in cancer cells. Moreover, 3BP induces hydrogen peroxide generation in cancer cells(oxidative stress effect) and competes with the LdH substrates pyruvate and lactate. There is only one published human clinical study showing that 3BP was effective in treating fibrolamellar hepatocellular carcinoma. LdH is a good measure for tumor evaluation and predicts the outcome of treatment better than the presence of a residual tumor mass. According to the Warburg effect, LdH is responsible for lactate synthesis, which facilitates cancer cell survival, progression, aggressiveness, metastasis, and angiogenesis. Lactate produced through LdH activity fuels aerobic cell populations inside tumors via metabolic symbiosis. In melanoma, the most deadly skin cancer, 3BP induced necrotic cell death in sensitive cells, whereas high glutathione(GSH) content made other melanoma cells resistant to 3BP. Concurrent use of a GSH depletor with 3BP killed resistant melanoma cells. Survival of melanoma patients was inversely associated with high serum LdH levels, which was reported to be highly predictive of melanoma treatment in randomized clinical trials. Here, we report a 28-year-old man presented with stage IV metastatic melanoma affecting the back, left pleura, and lung. The disease caused total destruction of the left lung and a high serum LdH level(4,283 U/L). After ethics committee approval and written patient consent, the patient received 3BP intravenous infusions(1-2.2 mg/kg), but the anticancer effect was minimal as indicated by a high serum LdH level. Comparative Analysis of the Separation Variation Influence on the Hydrodynamic Performance of a High Speed Trimaran

This paper numerically investigates the influence of separation variation of the outriggers on the hydrodynamic performance of a high speed trimaran （HST） aiming at improving its applicability in diverse realistic disciplines. The present investigation was performed within the framework of the 2-d slender body method （SBM） by calculating the resistance of three symmetric trimaran series moving in a calm free surface of deep water. Each trimaran series comprises of 4681 configurations generated by considering 151 staggers （-50%≤a≤＋ 100%）, and 31 separations （100%≤β≤400%） for 81 Froude numbers （0.20≤Fn≤ 1.0）. In developing the three trimaran series, Wigley-st. AMECRC-09, and NPL-4a models were used separately for both the main and side hulls of each individu;d series models. A computer macro named Tri-PL was created using the Visual Basic for Applications~. Tri-PL~ sequentially interfaced Maxsurfe then Hullspeed to generate the models of the three trimaran series together with their detailed hydrostatic particulars, followed by their resistance components. The numerical results were partially validated against the available published numerical calculations and experimental results, to benchmark the Tri-PL macro and hence to rely on the analysis outcomes. A graph template was creaLed within the framework of SigmaPlot to visualize the significant results of the Tri-PL properlv.

Role of Serum Zinc Level and P300 Event Related Potential in detection of Minimal Hepatic Encephalopathy

Background: Minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) is defined as hepatic encephalopathy (HE) without symptoms on clinical/neurological examination, but with deficits in some cognitive areas that can only be measured by neuropsychometric testing. Aim: Our aim was to study serum zinc levels in cirrhotic patients with and without MHE and correlate it with the results of neuropsychological tests and P300 event related potential. Patients and Methods: Fifty-five patients with liver cirrhosis were recruited for the present study. All patients were subjected to full history taking, clinical examination, abdominal ultrasonography, laboratory investigations including liver function tests and serum zinc, psychometric studies (line tracing test and serial dotting test) and P300 event related potential. According to the results of psychometric studies and P300 event related potential, the patients were divided into 3 groups in addition to the control group. Results: Among the 55 patients included in the study, 30 patients had no clinical evidence of HE and 25 patients had overt HE with different grades. In patients with no clinical evidence of HE, psychometric tests and P300 event related potential revealed that 13 patients had MHE, while 17 had no HE. There were significantly lower serum zinc levels in patients with MHE and in cirrhotic patients without HE compared with the healthy controls. Also, zinc levels were significantly lower in higher grades of hepatic encephalopathy. Serum zinc levels showed positive correlation with serum albumin levels and inverse correlation with serial dotting test and P300 latency. Conclusion: Reduced serum zinc level and prolonged P300 latency can serve as predictors of minimal hepatic encephalopathy in cirrhotic patients. Zinc deficiency is common in cirrhotic patients with MHE. These findings may have important prognostic and therapeutic implications in MHE and overt HE patients with zinc deficiency.

The 60Fc and 70Fc SF/SA blend scaffolds were prepared to mimic the functions of the native ECM for skin *** Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells(HUVECs)were used to examine the cell cytotoxicity,adhesion,growth factors secretion and the gene expression of associated angiogenic *** proliferation,adhesion and live-dead analyses showed that HUVECs could better attach,grow,and proliferate on the 70Fc scaffolds compared with 60Fc scaffolds and unmodified ***,the 70Fc scaffolds showed higher levels of specific angiogenic proteins and genes expression as *** study suggests that the involvement of higher composition of SF(about 70%)than that of SA on the blended scaffolds could be advantageous as it is more suitable to promote angiogenesis,which is potential for vascularization during skin repair.

Synthesis and Characterization of Zinc Oxide and Zinc Oxide doped with Chlorine Nanoparticles as Novel <i>α</i>-Amylase Inhibitors

In this study we used a chemical solution method from oxalic acid (OX. acid) and zinc acetate (ZnAc) to prepare Zinc Oxide nanoparticles (ZnONPs) and Zinc Oxide nanoparticles doped with Chlorine (Cl:ZnONPs). The characterizations (FTIR, X-ray, SEM, TEM) of ZnONPs and Cl:ZnONPs were determined. Amylase inhibitors of ZnONPs and Cl:ZnONPs also were determined. SEM indicated that the ZnONPs and Cl:ZnONPs have an average particle size of 46.65 - 74.64 nm. TEM images of the ZnONPs and Cl:ZnONPs showed the round shaped. Compounds b, d and e exhibited significant inhibitory activity against amylase enzyme (from 69.21 ± 1.44 to 76.32 ± 0.78), respectively, and were comparable with that of acarbose (86.32 ± 0.63) at 1000

Laser Surface Hardening of Tool Steels—Experimental and Numerical Analysis

This research work is focused on both experimental and numerical analysis of laser surface hardening of AISI M2 high speed tool steel. Experimental analysis aims at clarifying effect of different laser processing parameters on properties and performance of laser surface treated specimens. Numerical analysis is concerned with analytical approaches that provide efficient tools for estimation of surface temperature, surface hardness and hardened depth as a function of laser surface hardening parameters. Results indicated that optimization of laser processing parameters including laser power, laser spot size and processing speed combination is of considerable importance for achieving maximum surface hardness and deepest hardened zone. In this concern, higher laser power, larger spot size and lower processing speed are more efficient. Hardened zone with 1.25 mm depth and 996 HV surface hardness was obtained using 1800 W laser power, 4 mm laser spot size and 0.5 m/min laser processing speed. The obtained maximum hardness of laser surface treated specimen is 23% higher than that of conventionally heat treated specimen. This in turn has resulted in 30% increase in wear resistance of laser surface treated specimen. Numerical analysis has been carried out for calculation of temperature gradient and cooling rate based on Ashby and Easterling equations. Then, surface hardness and hardened depth have been numerically estimated based on available design-Expert software. Numerical results indicated that cooling rate of laser surface treated specimen is high enough to be beyond the nose of the CCT diagram of the used steel that in turn resulted in a hard/martensitic structure. Numerically estimated values of surface temperature, surface hardness and hardened depth as a function of laser processing parameters are in a good agreement with experimental results. Natural radioactivity levels and radiation hazards for gypsum materials used in Egypt

Radionuclides naturally occurring in building materials may significantly contribute to the annual doses to the public. For instance, familiar building materials such as the concrete and gypsum board have been reported to produce a dose of about 0.04 mSv per year for a typical person (NCRP 1987c). External as well as internal exposures are two pathways of radiation dose imparted to human beings from the building materials. As information on the radioactivity of such materials is lacking, the study of gypsum materials used in Egypt was carried out in order to estimate the annual dose to the Egyptian population due to natural radionuclides in building materials. during the study, 18 samples of commonly used gypsum raw materials were collected and measured. The activity concentrations were determined by gamma ray spectrometry. Their mean values were in the ranges of 499.29 ± 11.53 Bq·kg-1 for 40K, 91.97 ± 2.61 Bq·kg-1 for 226Ra, 37.62 ± 1.67 Bq·kg-1 for 238U and 42.27 ± 2.22 Bq·kg-1 for 232Th. The activity indexed Iγ for 18, different gypsum samples varied from 0.31 ± 0.03 to 2.3 ± 0.19 and the radium equivalent activity (Raeq), from 38.81 ± 1.68 to 324.7 ± 9.42. These values are lower than the limit of 370 Bq·kg-1 adopted by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and development (OECd). The average indoor annual effective gamma dose rate (dE) in (mSv/y) for the people, caused by the building materials of dwellings, was assessed for most commonly gypsum materials. It was estimated to be in the range from 0.10 ± 0.003 mSv/y to 0.74 ± 0.08 mSv/y. The internal and external hazard indices (Hin, Hex) and the absorbed dose rate in air d in each sample were evaluated to assess the radiation hazard for people living in dwelling made of the studied materials. The absorbed dose rate of indoor air in samples G1, G2, G11, G17 and G18 is less than the international recommended value which is 55 nGyh-1.
