Lymphocytic colitis: A clue to bacterial etiology

AIM： To find out the role of bacteria as a possible etiological factor in lymphocytic colitis. METHODS： Twenty patients with histopathological diagnosis of lymphocytic colitis and 10 normal controls were included in this study. Colonoscopic biopsies were obtained from three sites （hepatic and splenic flexures and rectosigmoid region）. Each biopsy was divided into two parts. A fresh part was incubated on special cultures for bacterial growth. The other part was used for the preparation of histologic tissue sections that were examined for the presence of bacteria with the help of Giemsa stain. RESULTS： Culture of tissue biopsies revealed bacterial growth in 18 out of 20 patients with lymphocytic colitis mostly Escherichia coil （14/18）, which was found in all rectosigmoid specimens （14/14）, but only in 8/14 and 6/14 of splenic and hepatic flexure specimens respectively. In two of these cases, E coli was associated with proteus. Proteus was found only in one case, Klebsiella in two cases, and Staphylococcus aureus in one case. In the control group, only 2 out of 10 controls showed the growth of E coli in their biopsy cultures. Histopathology showed rod-shaped bacilli in the tissue sections of 12 out of 14 cases with positive E coli in their specimen＇s culture. None of the controls showed these bacteria in histopathological sections. CONCLUSION： This preliminary study reports an association between E coli and lymphocytic colitis, based on histological and culture observations. Serotyping and molecular studies are in process to assess the role of E coli in the pathogenesis of lymphocytic colitis.

Patient privacy and data protection have been crucial concerns in Ehealthcare systems for many *** modern-day applications,patient data usually holds clinical imagery,records,and other medical ***,the Internet of Medical Things(IoMT),equipped with cloud computing,has come out to be a beneficial paradigm in the healthcare ***,the openness of networks and systems leads to security threats and illegal ***,reliable,fast,and robust security methods need to be developed to ensure the safe exchange of healthcare data generated from various image sensing and other IoMT-driven devices in the IoMT *** paper presents an image protection scheme for healthcare applications to protect patients’medical image data exchanged in IoMT *** proposed security scheme depends on an enhanced 2D discrete chaotic map and allows dynamic substitution based on an optimized highly-nonlinear S-box and diffusion to gain an excellent security *** optimized S-box has an excellent nonlinearity score of *** new image protection scheme is efficient enough to exhibit correlation values less than 0.0022,entropy values higher than 7.999,and NPCR values around 99.6%.To reveal the efficacy of the scheme,several comparison studies are *** comparison studies reveal that the novel protection scheme is robust,efficient,and capable of securing healthcare imagery in IoMT systems.

The Internet of Things(IoT)is a recent technology,which implies the union of objects,“things”,into a single worldwide *** promising paradigm faces many design challenges associated with the dramatic increase in the number of *** identification is one of these challenges that becomes complicated with the increase of network *** this,there is still no universally accepted method of identifying things that would satisfy all requirements of the existing IoT devices and *** this regard,one of the most important problems is choosing an identification system for all IoT devices connected to the public communication *** unique soft-ware and hardware solutions are used as a unique global identifier;however,such solutions have many *** article proposes a novel solution,based on the Digital Object Architecture(DOA),that meets the requirements of identifying devices and applications of the *** work analyzes the benefits of using the DOA as an identification platform in modern telecommunication *** propose a model of an identification system based on the architecture of digital objects,which differs from the well-known *** proposed model ensures an acceptable quality of service(QoS)in the common architecture of the existing public communication networks.A novel interaction architecture is developed by introducing a Middle Handle Register(MHR)between the global register,i.e.,Global Handle Register(GHR),and local register,i.e.,Local Handle Register(LHR).The aspects of the network interaction and the compatibility of IoT end-devices with the integrated DOA identifiers in heterogeneous communication networks are *** developed model is simulated for a wide-area network with allocated registers,and the results are introduced and discussed.

Although high quality multiple sequence alignment is an essential task in bioinforma- tics, it becomes a big dilemma nowadays due to the gigantic explosion in the amount of molecular data. The most consuming time and space phase is the distance matrix computation. This paper addresses this issue by proposing a vectorized parallel method that accomplishes the huge number of similarity comparisons faster in less space. Per- formance tests on real biological datasets using core-iT show superior results in terms of time and space.

Effect of Doum fruit (Hyphaene Thebaica) Extract on Some Biochemical Parameters, Enzyme Activities and Histopathological Changes of Pancreas in Alloxan Induced Diabetic Rats

Medicinal plants have been used in the treatment of some diseases like diabetes. One of them is doum fruit extract. The study was conducted to evaluate effect of doum fruit extract on some biochemical parameters, including enzyme activities and histopathological changes of pancreas in alloxan induced diabetic rats. Animals were allocated into five groups of rats, two groups, several as control (one normal and one diabetic rats) and the other three groups were induced diabetic with doum extract (0.5, 1 and 2 g/kg b·wt) which were given every other day by stomach tube for 6 weeks. Evaluation was made for glucose, insulin, lipid profile, enzyme activities, antioxidant activity and histopathological changes of pancreas. The results showed that doum fruit extract decreased blood glucose, insulin, total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), total lipid (TL), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), lactate dyhadreygenase (LDH), alanine and aspartate amino transferase (ALT, AST), alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and Malondialdehyde (MDA) while plasma catalase activity and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were significantly (p 0.05) increased. Therefore, the results of this study demonstrated that the active compounds present in the doum extract have a positive effect on the biochemical parameters of diabetic rats.

BACKGROUND Childhood cancer survivors are potentially at a higher risk of infection with hepatitis C virus (HCV).The effects of all-oral direct-acting antiviral therapy (DAA) on both the HCV infection as well as the state of cancer remission have not been well investigated in this *** To test the effects of dual sofosbuvir/daclatasvir (SOf/DCV) therapy in the treatment of chronic HCV in survivors of hematologic malignancy in pediatric age *** We conducted a prospective,uncontrolled,open-label multicenter study.A total of 20 eligible,chronic HCV,genotype-4,infected children who had been in continuous complete remission from hematologic cancer (leukemia/lymphoma) for at least one year were included in the *** patients were treated with combined SOf/DCV for 12 *** were monitored throughout the study till 12 wk after end of treatment for safety and efficacy outcomes including the sustained virologic response 12 (SVR12) rate,hematological indices,liver and kidney *** The intent-to-treat SVR12 rate was 20 of 20 (100%;95%CI: 84%-100%).All patients showed normalized liver enzymes from *** hematological indices,liver and kidney functions were kept normal throughout the *** fatalities or treatment-emergent serious or severe adverse events were reported throughout the *** SOf/DCV combined therapy could be used safely and effectively in the treatment of chronic HCV genotype-4 infection in leukemia/lymphoma treated *** relapses were detected during treatment and throughout the follow up period for either the original malignant disease or the HCV infection.

Exploring internship nursing students’ perception of gerontological nursing competencies: A descriptive study at Cairo University Hospitals

Objective:This research study explores the perceptions of gerontological nursing competencies,attitudes toward older individuals,and the willingness to provide care for the elderly among internship nursing *** and Methods:A convenience sample of 350 internship nursing students from Cairo University faculty of Nursing participated in the *** were collected using a set of comprehensive tools,including personal data and work experience assessment,the Hartford geriatric nurse competency tool,Kogan’s attitudes toward old people scale,and the modified elderly patient care ***:Descriptive analysis revealed balanced gender representation,with 60%identifying as *** percent of participants reported prior experience in gerontological ***-assessed competency scores indicated moderate proficiency in communication,physiological changes,and functional status *** such as pain management and restraint use demonstrated potential gaps in self-perceived *** toward older individuals were predominantly positive,and the willingness to provide care showed positive tendencies,with a minor degree of hesitation ***:The findings underscore the need for targeted interventions in nursing education to address competency gaps,enhance positive attitudes,and alleviate potential hesitations in caregiving for older *** the elderly population continues to grow,nursing education programs must prepare future practitioners to deliver comprehensive and compassionate care tailored to the unique needs of older adults.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles(UAVs)or drones introduced for military applications are gaining popularity in several other f.elds as well such as security and surveillance,due to their ability to perform repetitive and tedious tasks in hazardous *** increased demand created the requirement for enabling the UAVs to traverse independently through the Three Dimensional(3D)flight environment consisting of various obstacles which have been efficiently addressed by metaheuristics in past ***,not a single optimization algorithms can solve all kind of optimization problem ***,there is dire need to integrate metaheuristic for general *** address this issue,in this paper,a novel reinforcement learning controlled Grey Wolf Optimisation-Archimedes Optimisation Algorithm(QGA)has been exhaustively introduced and exhaustively validated firstly on 22 benchmark functions and then,utilized to obtain the optimum flyable path without collision for UAVs in three dimensional *** performance of the developed QGA has been compared against the various *** simulation experimental results reveal that the QGA algorithm acquire a feasible and effective flyable path more efficiently in complicated environment.

Next-generation networks,including the Internet of Things(IoT),ﬁfth-generation cellular systems(5G),and sixth-generation cellular systems(6G),suf-fer from the dramatic increase of the number of deployed *** puts high constraints and challenges on the design of such *** changing of the network is one of such challenges that affect the network performance,includ-ing the required quality of service(QoS).The fractal dimension(fD)is consid-ered one of the main indicators used to represent the structure of the communication *** this end,this work analyzes the fD of the network and its use for telecommunication networks investigation and *** clus-ter growing method for assessing the fD is introduced and *** article proposes a novel method for estimating the fD of a communication network,based on assessing the network’s connectivity,by searching for the shortest *** the cluster growing method,the proposed method does not require multiple iterations,which reduces the number of calculations,and increases the stability of the results ***,the proposed method requires less compu-tational cost than the cluster growing method and achieves higher *** method is quite simple to implement and can be used in the tasks of research and planning of modern and promising communication *** developed method is evaluated for two different network structures and compared with the cluster growing *** validate the developed method.

Improving outdoor air quality based on building morphology:Numerical investigation

Due to rapid urbanization around the world,high concentrations of vehicular pollutants have deteriorated the outdoor air quality,which can affect the physical and psychological well-being of *** strategies have been proposed to overcome these harmful impacts by improving the dispersion of air ***,a question arises regarding the potential effects of building morphology on the dispersion of ***,transient three-dimensional Computational fluid Dynamics(CfD)simulations are performed to examine the effect of building morphology on PM10 *** cases with various prototypes and morphological methods are compared with a simple building form to identify the patterns of PM10 dispersion within a given time sequence under a prevailing inflow *** results indicate that the different designs of building morphology with varying Relative compactness(RC)indicator highlight the importance of considering morphological factors to improve outdoor air *** addition,the proposed prototypes can reduce PM10 concentrations by approximately 30%e90%at specific points in the studied time *** particular,the vertical,horizontal,and grid folded prototypes can be considered more effective as an approximate decrease between 70%and 90%in PM10 concentrations is observed,which reflects the influence of building morphology on improving outdoor air quality.
