a.m. To detect the incidence of retinopa.hy of prem.turity （ROP） in a.tertia.y referra. neona.a. intensive ca.e unit in upper Egypt a.d to describe the obsta.les fa.ed during im.lem.nting the screening protocol for the first tim.. m.THODS： Consecutive infa.ts were enrolled a. birth a.d screened for ROP. We used the UK ROP guideline （m.y 2008） for infa.t selection, follow up a.d trea.m.nt. Repea. exa.0}na.ions were perform.d until retina. va.cula.isa.ion wa. com.lete. RESULTS： Fifty-two infa.ts were enrolled： 24 m.les a.d 28 fem.les. m.a. gesta.iona. a.e wa. 31.3wk （±2.8 SD） a.d m.a. birth weight wa. 1234,6 g （±221.1 SD）. Incidence of ROP wa. 36.5% （sta.es 1, 2, 3 a.d 4a.were 9.6%, 9.6%, 15.4% a.d 1.9% respectively）, no sta.es 4b or 5 were found in this series. Six infa.ts （11.5%） died during screening without ROP, 25 infa.ts （48.1%） were discha.ged from.screening with retina. va.cula.isa.ion rea.hing zone III, 5 infa.ts （9.6%） were trea.ed with indirect diode with or without a.ditiona. cryothera.y a.d 16 infa.ts （30.8%） were lost to follow up. In this series gesta.iona. a.e ra.her tha. birth weight wa. found significa.tly correla.ed a.d predictive （P〈0.05） with ROP sta.es. CONCLUSION： ROP in a.single site in upper Egypt a.pea.s to ha.e com.a.a.le incidence to other a.ea. worldwide. The m.in screening obsta.le wa. m.ssing ca.es due to the a.sence of a.na.iona. ROP screening protocol.

In this study, we qua.tified the effects ca.sed by the inva.ion of a.noxious exotic pla.t,Ka.a.choe da.grem.ntia.a.Cra.sula.ea.), on C a.d N m.nera.iza.ion a.d enzym.tic a.d m.crobia. a.tivities in the soil of a.sem.a.id loca.ity in Venezuela. We com.a.ed soil pa.a.0}ters a.socia.ed with these processes(C a.d N m.nera.iza.ion tim. a.d the cum.la.ive va.ues, fluorescein dia.eta.e hydrolytic a.tivity, a.d a.tivities of dehydrogena.e, β-glucosida.e, glucosa.0}nida.e, a.d urea.e) between inva.ed a.d a.ja.ent non-inva.ed sites. In a.dition, correla.ions a.0}ng these pa.a.0}ters a.d the soil physica.-chem.ca. properties were a.so exa.0}ned to determ.ne if a.positive feedba.k exists between nutrient a.a.la.ility a.d K. da.grem.ntia.a.inva.ion. Overa.l,our results showed tha. C m.nera.iza.ion a.d tra.sform.tion of orga.ic com.ounds to NH_4^+ were fa.ored a. sites colonized by ***. With this species, we found the highest cum.la.ive a.0}unts of NH_4^+-N a.d C a.d the lowest m.nera.iza.ion *** results could be expla.ned by higher a.tivities of urea.e a.d glucosa.0}nida.e in soils under the influence of K. *** a.dition, higher a.0}unts of orga.ic m.tter a.d m.isture content in inva.ed soils m.ght fa.or C a.d N m.nera.iza.ion. In conclusion,inva.ion of Neotropica. sem.a.id zones by K. da.grem.ntia.a.m.y influence the chem.ca. a.d biologica. properties of the soils covered by this species, increa.ing nutrient bioa.a.la.ility, which, in tim., ca. fa.ilita.e the inva.ion process.

Objective: To eva.ua.e the effect of m.ringa.oleifera.lea. etha.ol extra.t a. a. a.junct trea.m.nt on lea. a.eta.e induced hepa.onephrotoxicity in ra.bits. m.thods: Thirty-six m.le New Zea.a.d White ra.bits were a.signed into two m.in groups. The first group(14 ra.bits) served a. norm.l control. The second group(22 ra.bits) wa. a.m.nistered ora.ly with lea. a.eta.e a. a.dose of 40 m./kg/da., 5 da.s/week for 8 weeks. a. the 4 th a.d the 8 th week of trea.m.nt, 6 a.im.ls(3 a.im.ls a. ea.h period) of the second group were sa.rificed while the rem.ining a.im.ls(16 ra.bits) were a.signed ra.dom.y into 2 subgroups(8 ra.bits ea.h): trea.ed a.d non-trea.ed. The first subgroup wa. ora.ly given 1 m.L phospha.e-buffered sa.ine for further 4 weeks while the second subgroup wa. a.m.nistered ora.ly with m.ringa.oleifera.lea. etha.ol extra.t a. a.dose of 400 m./kg/da. for the sa.0} period. Blood sa.0}les were collected to determ.ne hem.tologica. a.d serum.biochem.ca. indices. Tissue specim.ns were collected from.the liver a.d kidney for eva.ua.ion of the oxida.t/a.tioxida.t m.rkers a.d for histopa.hologica. ***: Lea. a.eta.e exposure decrea.ed the m.a. body weight ga.n, hem.tocrit, hem.globin, m.a. corpuscula. volum., a.d lym.hocytes count. m.reover, it m.rkedly increa.ed counts of m.nocytes a.d pla.elets, serum.enzym. a.tivity, levels of crea.inine, tota. cholesterol, triglycerides, a.d low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. m.londia.dehyde level wa. m.rkedly increa.ed while the reduced gluta.hione content wa. significa.tly decrea.ed in liver tissue of lea. intoxica.ed-ra.bits. RESULTS:Exposure to Cm. eleva.ed pla.m. corticosterone(28.3±0.6μg/dL,P=0.002),a. event tha. wa. a.com.a.ied by ga.tric lesions(6.4±0.16 m.,P=0.01) a.d confirm.d ***,the insult eleva.ed ga.tric m.cosa. lipid peroxides(13±0.5 nm.l/g tissue,P=0.001),tum.r necrosis fa.tor-α(3008.6±78.18 pg/g tissue,Pa.la.din E2(117.1 ±4.31 pg/g tissue,P=0.002),a.d ca.pa.e-3 a.tivity (2.4±0.14 OD/m. protein,P=0.002).Conversely,Cm. m.tiga.ed interleukin-10(627.9±12.82 pg/g tissue,P= 0.001).Furtherm.re,in a.im.ls exposed to Cm.,octreotide restored pla.m. corticosterone(61%a.d 71%from.Cm.,P=0.002)a. both dose *** beneficia. effects were a.socia.ed with a.rem.rka.le suppression of ga.tric lesions(38%a.d 9%from.Cm.,P=0.01)a.d reversa. of dera.gem.nts in ga.tric m.cosa. CONCLUSION:The current investiga.ion provides evidence tha. exposure to Cm. induces ga.tric ulcera.ion, which wa. a.levia.ed by a.m.nistra.ion of octreotide possibly possessing a.tioxida.t,a.ti-infla.0}a.ory,a.d a.ti-a.optotic a.tions.
