Ma.sive limestones were used in construction of a.cient Egyptia. tombs, temples, obelisks a.d other sculptures. These stones a.e a.wa.s exposed to physico-mecha.ica. deteriora.ion a.d destructive forces, lea.ing to pa.tia. or tota. colla.se. The ta.k of rea.sembling this type of a.tifa.ts represents a.big cha.lenge for the conserva.ors. Recently, the resea.chers a.e turning to new technologies to improve the properties of tra.itiona. a.hesive ma.eria.s a.d techniques used in re-a.sembly of broken ma.sive stones. The epoxy resins a.e used extensively in stone conserva.ion a.d re-a.sembly of broken stones beca.se of their outsta.ding mecha.ica. properties. The a.ding of na.opa.ticles to polymeric a.hesives a. low percenta.es ma. lea. to substa.tia. improvements of their mecha.ica. performa.ces in structura. joints a.d ma.sive objects. The a.m of this study is to eva.ua.e the effectiveness of montmorillonite cla., ca.cium ca.bona.e, a.d silicon dioxide na.opa.ticles for enha.cing the performa.ces of epoxy a.hesives used in re-a.sembly of a.cha.ologica. ma.sive limestones. Sca.ning electron microscopy (SEM) wa. employed in order to investiga.e the morphology of the prepa.ed na.ocomposites, a.d the distribution of na.opa.ticles inside the composites. a.tificia. a.ing, tensile, compressive, a.d elonga.ion strength tests were used to eva.ua.e the efficiency of epoxy-na.ocomposites. The results showed tha. the epoxy-cla. na.ocomposites exhibited superior tensile, compressive, a.d elonga.ion strength, in a.dition to improving the mecha.ica. properties of stone joints.
