Anti-inflammatory potential of human corneal stroma-derived stem cells determined by a novel in vitro corneal epithelial injury model

BACKgROUND An in vitro injury model mimicking a corneal surface injury was optimised using human corneal epithelial cells(hCEC).AIM To investigate whether corneal-stroma derived stem cells(CSSC) seeded on an amniotic membrane(AM) construct manifests an anti-inflammatory, healing *** Treatment of hCEC with ethanol and pro-inflammatory cytokines were compared in terms of viability loss, cytotoxicity, and pro-inflammatory cytokine release, in order to generate the in vitro injury. This resulted in an optimal injury of 20%(v/v) ethanol for 30 s with 1 ng/mL interleukin-1(IL-1) beta. Co-culture experiments were performed with CSSC alone and with CSSC-AM *** effect of injury and co-culture on viability, cytotoxicity, IL-6 and IL-8 production, and IL1 B, TNF, IL6, and CXCL8 mRNA expression were *** Co-culture with CSSC inhibited loss of hCEC viability caused by injury. Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay and polymerase chain reaction showed a significant reduction in the production of IL-6 and IL-8 pro-inflammatory cytokines, and reduction in pro-inflammatory cytokine mRNA expression during co-culture with CSSC alone and with the AM construct. These results confirmed the therapeutic potential of the CSSC and the possible use of AM as a cell carrier for application to the ocular *** CSSC were shown to have a potentially therapeutic anti-inflammatory effectwhen treating injured hCEC, demonstrating an important role in corneal regeneration and wound healing, leading to an improved knowledge of their potential use for research and therapeutic purposes.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina （BA） has been developing and putting to use a workflow for tuming printed books into digital books as its contribution to the building of a Universal Digital Library. This workflow is a process consisting of multiple phases, namely, scanning, image processing, OCR, digital archiving, document encoding, and publishing. Over the past couple of years, the BA has defined procedures and special techniques for the scanning, processing, OCR and publishing, especially of Arabic books. This workflow has been automated, allowing the governance of the different phases and making possible the production of 18000 books so far. The BA has also designed and implemented a framework for the encoding of digital books that allows publishing as well as a software system for managing the creation, maintenance, and publishing of the overall digital repository.

Differentiation of Crohn’s disease from intestinal tuberculosis in India in 2010

Differentiating intestinal tuberculosis from Crohn’s disease (CD) is an important clinical challenge of considerable therapeutic significance. The problem is of greatest magnitude in countries where tuberculosis continues to be highly prevalent, and where the incidence of CD is increasing. The final clinical diagnosis is based on a combination of the clinical history with endoscopic studies, culture and polymerase chain reaction for Mycobacterium tuberculosis, biopsy pathology, radiological investigations and response to therapy. In a subset of patients, surgery is required and intraoperative findings with pathological study of the resected bowel provide a definitive diagnosis. Awareness of the parameters useful in distinguishing these two disorders in each of the different diagnostic modalities is crucial to accurate decision making. Newer techniques, such as capsule endoscopy, small bowel enteroscopy and immunological assays for Mycobacterium tuberculosis, have a role to play in the differentiation of intestinal tuberculosis and CD. This review presents currently available evidence regarding the usefulness and limitations of all these different modalities available for the evaluation of these two disorders.

Introduction:Economic evaluation studies demonstrate the value of money in health interventions and enhance the efficiency of the healthcare ***,this study reviews published economic evaluation studies of public health interventions from 26 Middle East and North Africa(MENA)countries and examines whether they addressed the region’s major health ***:PubMed and Scopus were utilized to search for relevant articles published up to June 26,*** reviewers independently selected studies,extracted data,and assessed the quality of studies using the Consolidated Health Economic Evaluation Reporting Standards(CHEERS)***:The search identified 61 *** half(28 studies;46%)were conducted in Israel and *** main areas of interest for economic evaluation studies were infectious diseases(21 studies;34%),cancers(13 studies;21%),and genetic disorders(nine studies;15%).Five(8%),39(64%),16(26%),and one(2%)studies were classified as excellent,high,average,and poor quality,*** mean of CHEERS checklist items reported was 80.8%(SD 14%).Reporting the structure and justification of the selected model was missed in 21 studies(37%),while price and conversion rates and the analytical methods were missed in 21 studies(34%).Conclusions:The quantity of economic evaluation studies on public health interventions in the MENA region remains low;however,the overall quality is high to *** were obvious geographic gaps across countries regarding the number and quality of studies and gaps within countries concerning disease *** observed research output,however,did not reflect current and upcoming disease burden and risk factors trends in the MENA region.

g>Aim:g> Chronic otitis media (COM) is chronic muco purulent discharge through a perforated tympanic membrane. Theossicular chain damage is found in both mucosal and squamosal types of COM. We aim to evaluate relationship between preoperative otologic features, pure tone audiometric findings and intraoperative ossicular chain status in patients with chronic otitis media. g>Material and Methods:g> 100 patients of either sex aged between 12 to 60 years operated for active or inactive, squamosal or mucosal chronic otitis media attending Ram Lal Eye and ENT Hospital, government Medical College Amritsar were taken. The preoperative ossicular chain status based on set parameters was compared with the intraoperative ossicular chain status. g>Results:g> The ossicular chain integrity is more commonly compromised in squamosal COM and the most common ossicle eroded is Incus. Pure tone audiogram has got a very important role in determining the ossicular chain integrity preoperatively and must be done in all cases with accuracy. g>Conclusion:g> It is concluded that on the basis of otoscopic examination and pure tone audiometry values, we can accurately classify the COM as mucosal or squamosal type and get an idea of the ossicular chain integrity preoperatively hence planning the extent of surgery.

Optimization and Quality Characters of Protein Enriched Pasta

The response surface methodology （Box-behnken design） was acknowledged for the production of optimized protein enriched pasta. Studied responses （protein, overall acceptability, hue angle and hardness） resulted to high protein pasta. The optima were at 12.5%,5 mung bean, 10% whey protein concentrate and 6% egg albumen in combination. Best combination of protein source and their respective level for high protein pasta on the quality evaluation basis were mung bean （15%）＋ whey protein concentrate （10%）; mung bean （15%）＋ egg albumen （6%）; mung bean （15%）＋ whey protein concentrate （10%）＋ egg albumen （6%）. Hue angle and Hardness remained within acceptable range. Model adequacy was supported with lack of fit test. Enriched protein pasta had excellent cooking and sensory quality during storage period of 4 months. ERH value ranged from 34-36 per cent had supported the results. Rheological properties and good storage behaviour （4 months） had also enhanced the quality of optimized protein enriched pasta. Enriched pasta was rated excellent by 70 per cent of the consumers in mass acceptability trials.

Fake reviews,also known as deceptive opinions,are used to mislead people and have gained more importance *** is due to the rapid increase in online marketing transactions,such as selling and purchasing.E-commerce provides a facility for customers to post reviews and comment about the product or service when *** customers usually go through the posted reviews or comments on the website before making a purchase ***,the current challenge is how new individuals can distinguish truthful reviews from fake ones,which later deceives customers,inflicts losses,and tarnishes the reputation of *** present paper attempts to develop an intelligent system that can detect fake reviews on ecommerce platforms using n-grams of the review text and sentiment scores given by the *** proposed methodology adopted in this study used a standard fake hotel review dataset for experimenting and data preprocessing methods and a term frequency-Inverse document frequency(TF-IDF)approach for extracting features and their *** detection and classification,n-grams of review texts were inputted into the constructed models to be classified as fake or ***,the experiments were carried out using four different supervised machine-learning techniques and were trained and tested on a dataset collected from the Trip Advisor *** classification results of these experiments showed that na飗e Bayes(NB),support vector machine(SVM),adaptive boosting(AB),and random forest(RF)received 88%,93%,94%,and 95%,respectively,based on testing accuracy and tje *** obtained results were compared with existing works that used the same dataset,and the proposed methods outperformed the comparable methods in terms of accuracy.
