One hundred twenty-five endophytic microorganisms were isolated from the roots,stems,and leaves of four prominent rice cultivars growing in temperate *** potential to combat rice blast disease and promote plant growth was *** dual culture tests highlighted the strong antagonistic activity of five fungal(ranging from 89%–70%)and five bacterial(72%–61%)*** examination focused on volatile compounds produced by selected isolates to counter the blast *** these,the highest chitinase(13.76μg mL−1)and siderophore(56.64%),was exhibited by Aspergillus flavus,and the highest HCN production was shown by Stenotrophomonas maltophilia(36.15μM mL−1).In terms of growth promotion traits,Aspergillus flavus and Enterobacter cloacae excelled in activities viz,phosphorous solubilization,ammonia production,auxin and gibberellic acid production,and nitrogen *** Identity of these endophytes was confirmed through molecular analysis as Trichoderma afroharzianum,Trichoderma harzianum,Penicillium rubens,Aspergillus flavus,Stenotrophomonas rhizophila,Stenotrophomonas maltophilia,Bacillus cereus,Enterobacter cloacae,and Bacillus *** greenhouse conditions,the highest disease control was shown by isolate Bacillus licheniformis and *** with an inhibition of 79%,followed by ***(77%)and ***(73%).The overall results of this study showed that Bacillus licheniformis and Stenotrophomonas rhizophila have great potential to be used as bio-stimulant and biocontrol agents to manage rice blast disease.

A selective approach to the surgical management of periampullary cancer patients and its outcome

BACKGROUND： Pancreaticoduodenectomy is a high risk, complex, technically challenging operation associated with significant perioperative morbidity and mortality. This study on the surgical management of periampullary cancer patients is based on our experience in a period of nearly 13 years. METHODS： The study was conducted on two groups of patients： group A included 42 patients who were treated between January 2000 and September 2005 and group B included 134 patients who were treated between October 2005 to October 2012. Preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative details of all these patients were collected, tabulated and analyzed to assess the impact of the selective approach introduced in the department with effect from October 2005. RESULTS： Intraoperative details revealed highly significant differences in the management of the two groups of patients in respect of operative time （250.4 vs 126.6 minutes; P〈0.001）, operative blood loss （1070.2 vs 414.9 mL; P〈0.001） and intraoperative blood transfusion （1A vs 0.2 units; P〈0.001）. Variations between the two groups in the frequency of complications were found to be statistically insignificant. However, the difference between the two groups in the overall morbidity of patients （47.6% vs 26.1%; P=0.009） and the length of their hospital stay （11.8 vs 7.8 days; P〈0.001） were significant. CONCLUSION： A selective approach applied to the surgical management of periampullary cancer patients is a step in the right direction.

Evaluation of anti-inflammatory potential of leaf extracts of Skimmia anquetilia

Objective:To evaluate anti-inflammatory potential of leaf extract of Skimmia anquetilia by invitro and in-vivo anti-inflammatory ***:Acute toxicity study was carried out to determine the toxicity level of different extract using acute toxic class method as described in Organization of Economic Co-operation and Development Guidelines ***(1% w/w) was administered and inflammation was induced in rat *** leaf extracts of Skimmia anquetilia were evaluated for anti-inflammatory activity by in-vitro human red blood cell(HRBC) membrane stabilization method and in-vivo carrangeenan-induced rat paw edema method. Results:The in-vitro membrane stabilizing test showed petroleum ether(PE),chloroform(CE), ethyl acetate(EE),methanol(ME) and aqueous extracts(AE) showed 49.44%,59.39%,60.15%,68.40% and 52.18%protection,respectively as compared to control *** in-vivo results of CE,EE and ME showed 58.20%.60.17%and 67.53%inhibition of inflammation after 6h administration of test drugs in albino *** potency of the leaf extracts of Skimmia anquetilia were compared with standard diclofenac(10 mg/kg) which showed 74.18%protection in in-vitro HRBC membrane stabilization test and 71.64%inhibition in in-vivo carrangeenan-induced rat paw edema model. The ME showed a dose dependent significant(P< 0.01) anti-inflammatory activity in human red blood cell membrane stabilization test and reduction of edema in carrageenan induced rat paw ***:The present investigation has confirmed the anti-inflammatory activity of Skimmia anquetilia due to presence of bioactive phytoconstitutes for the first lime and provide the pharmacological evidence in favor of traditional claim of Skimmia anquetilia as an antiinflammatory agent.

Robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy(RARP)is the current standard of care with long term cure in organ-confined *** introduction of nerve-sparing(NS)to standard RARP has shown positive results in terms of functional outcomes in addition to the oncological *** article reviews the current perspectives of NS-RARP in terms of applied anatomy of the prostatic fascial planes,the neurovascular bundle(NVB),various NS techniques and postoperative functional outcomes.A non-systematic review was done using PubMed,Embase and Medline databases to retrieve and analyse articles in English,with following keywords“prostate cancer”,“robotic radical prostatectomy”,“nerve-sparing”.The Delphi method was used with an expert panel of robotic surgeons in urology to analyse the potency outcomes of various published comparative and non-comparative *** literature has shown that NS-RARP involves various techniques and approaches while there is a lack of randomized studies to suggest the superiority of one over the *** such as preoperative risk assessments,baseline potency,surgical anatomy of individual patients and surgeons’expertise play a major role in the outcomes.A tailored approach for each patient is required for applying the NS approach during RARP.

Diversity and regeneration status of Sarkot Van Panchyat in Garhwal Himalaya, India

We investigated the floristic composition, phytosociological and regeneration status of Sarkot Van Panchyat （community forest） in Chamoli district of Garhwal Himalaya. A total of 52 plant species of 46 genera and 26 families were recorded, which included 12 trees, 18 shrubs and 22 herb species. Quercus leucotrichophora was dominant tree species in sapling and seedling layers, followed by Lyonia ovalifolia and Rhododendron arboreum. Out of 12 tree species, 7 species in seedling stage and 8 species in sapling stage were recorded in the study area. The 44.41% species in the study area showed good regeneration status, 16.66% species were fairly regenerating, and 8.33% species showed poor regeneration status, while 33% species were not regenerating. Number of individuals from lower girth classes （0--10 cm and 10-30 cm） showed decreasing trend with the increase in size of girth class. Shannon index （H） for trees, shrubs and herbs was recorded as 1.82, 2.24 and 2.41 respectively. Simpsons index （Co） was recorded as 0.21, 0.12 and 0.12 for trees, shrubs and herbs respectively. The forest should be di- vided into compartments for better management purpose and each compartment should be closed for five years to assist regeneration and enrichment planting may also be carried out for sustainable management.

Curve Veering in Torsional Systems with Stepped Shafts

In this study, the influence of geometrical parameters on the curve veering phenomenon in a tor-sional system with stepped shaft is investigated. Three approximate solutions including finite el-ement, Rayleigh-Ritz and discretization methods, along with an exact solution are employed to obtain the natural frequencies of the structure. The study reveals that, under specific circumstances, the results obtained by approximate methods are very close to the exact solution. The curve veering behavior is manifested irrespective of the method employed. It is concluded that for the structure studied the curve veering behavior is not because of the approximate techniques used to compute the natural frequencies, and is an inherent behavior of the structure.

Protective effect of Pisonia aculeata on thioacetamide induced hepatotoxicity in rats

Objective:To evaluate the protective effect of Pisonia aculeata(***) on thioacetamide induced hepatotoxicity in ***:Male Wistar rats were administered 250 or 500 mg/kg *** *** extract for 21 days and simultaneously administered thioacetamide(TAA) 50 mg/kg bw s.c.1 h alter the respective assigned treatments every 72 *** the end of all experimental methods,all the animals were sacrificed by cervical *** samples were *** was separated and analyzed for various biochemical ***:TAA induced a significant rise in aspartate amino transferase(AST),alanine amino transferase(ALT),alkaline phosphatase(ALP),total bilirubin,gamma glutamate transpeptidase(GGTP),lipid peroxidase(LPO)with a reduction of total protein,superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase,glutathione peroxidase(GPx) and glutathione S-transferase(GST).Treatment of rats with different does of plant extract(250 and 500 mg/kg) significantly(P<0.001) altered serum marker enzymes and antioxidant levels to near normal against TAA treated *** activity of the extract at a dose of 300 tug/kg was comparable to the standard drug,silymarin(50 mg/kg.p.o.).Conclusions:It can be concluded that *** extract possesses a remarkable hepaloprolective and antioxidant activity against TAA induced *** research is required lo derive an optimal therapeutic dose.
