Intro.uctio.: The wo.k enviro.ment is o.e o. the main causes o. allergic rhinitis. The majo.ity o. vendo.s in Dakar wo.k in places clo.e to.ro.ds that are very frequented by vehicles, expo.ing them to.increased air po.lutio.. The study determined the prevalence o. allergic rhinitis and its asso.iated risk facto.s in these vendo.s. Metho.s: This was a cro.s-sectio.al survey based o. a structured questio.naire, co.ducted amo.g vendo.s in the neighbo.ho.ds o. HLM, Medina and Petersen in Dakar, Senegal. A to.al o. 200 vendo.s were interviewed. Sympto.s o. allergic rhinitis were defined as the simultaneo.s presence o. rhino.rhea, nasal co.gestio. and sneezing in the absence o. respirato.y infectio.. A lo.istic regressio. analysis was perfo.med to.determine the relatio.ship between so.io.demo.raphic characteristics, o.cupatio.al facto.s, and allergic rhinitis. Results: Results o. the study sho. a prevalence o. 43% o. allergic rhinitis amo.g vendo.s. Multivariate analysis sho.ed that the independent facto.s asso.iated with allergic rhinitis in these vendo.s were age [o.: 3.28 (1.02 - 10.51)], wo.king area [o.: 8.31 (2.39 - 28.95)], expo.ure to.multiple so.rces o. po.lutio. [o.: 4.08 (1.43 - 11.63)], and recurrent co.d [o.: 4.39 (1.15 - 16.85)]. Co.clusio.: The prevalence o. allergic rhinitis was high amo.g vendo.s in Dakar. o.r data suggest that expo.ure to.air po.lutio. at the wo.kplace in vendo.s co.ld lead to.allergic rhinitis.
