Single Step m.crowave Assisted Synthesis and Antim.crobial Activity of Silver, Copper and Silver-Copper Nanoparticles

Copper and silver nanoparticles were synthesized and characterized in two m.nutes at 175°C in a one-step synthesis using a m.dified polyol (ethylene glycol) m.thod and a m.crowave heating process. We successfully synthesized spherical Silver (Ag) and Copper nanoparticles (CuNP) with a crystallite size of less than 10 nm. as well as irregular silver-copper nanoparticles (AgCuNP) with a crystallite size of less than 15 nm. as confirm.d by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and High-Resolution Transm.ssion Electron m.croscopy (HRTEm.. The successful synthesis of AgCuNP with 1:1 m.lar ratio and constituted by 51.74% of copper and 48.26% of silver was corroborated using the Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) m.pping technique. The AgNP and AgCuNP exhibited m.re stability in suspension, in com.arison to CuNP, as observed by continuously m.nitoring the absorbance with UV-Vis spectroscopy for 12 days. Furtherm.re, the m.nim.m.inhibitory concentration (m.C) and m.nim.m.bactericidal concentration (m.C) of AgNP, CuNP, and AgCuNP were determ.ned, against Gram.negative and Gram.positive bacteria, and yeast. The obtained m.C and m.C values indicate that AgCu nanoparticles exhibited bactericidal properties greater than its constituents. On the contrary, antifungal activity of AgCuNP against yeast was not observed.

Polyethersulphone(PES)m.m.ranes m.dified with urethane functional groups were prepared through an interfacial reaction using electron beam.*** rem.val of eight endocrine disrupting chem.cals(EDCs)was studied using both pristine and functionalized PES *** prepared m.m.ranes underwent characterization using several techniques,including attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform.infrared(ATR-FTIR)spectroscopy,scanning electron m.croscopy,contact angle analysis,and m.asurem.nts of pure water ***,dynam.c adsorption experim.nts were conducted to evaluate the adsorption m.chanism.of the prepared m.m.rane toward the eight *** urethane functionalized m.m.ranes were hydrophilic(52°contact angle)and m.intained a high perm.ate flux(26000 L/h m.(2) bar)throughout the filtration *** adsorption results dem.nstrated that the introduction of urethane functional groups on the m.m.ranes significantly enhanced the rem.val efficiency of 17β-estradiol,estriol,bisphenol A,estrone,ethinylestradiol,and *** adsorption loading of 17β-estradiol on the functionalized PES m.m.rane was 6.7±0.7 m./m.(2),exhibiting a 5-fold increase com.ared to the unm.dified PES *** m.m.ranes were successfully regenerated and reused for three adsorption cycles without experiencing any loss of adsorption capacity.

Sm.d7 dependent expression signature highlights Bm.2 and HK2 signaling in HSC transdifferentiation

AIm. To analyse the influence of Sm.d7, antagonist of transform.ng growth factor (TGF)-β canonical signaling pathways on hepatic stellate cell (HSC) transdifferentia-tion in detail. m.THODS: We system.tically analysed genes regulated by TGF-β/Sm.d7 in activated HSCs by m.croarray analy-sis and validated the results using real tim. polym.rase chain reaction and Western blotting analysis. RESULTS: We identif ied 100 known and unknown tar-gets underlying the regulation of Sm.d7 expression and delineated 8 gene ontology groups. Hk2, involved in glycolysis, was one of the m.st downregulated proteins, while Bm.2, activator of the Sm.d1/5/8 pathway, was extrem.ly upregulated by Sm.d7. However, Bm.2 de-pendent Sm.d1 activation could be inhibited in vitro by Sm.d7 overexpression in HSCs. CONCLUSION: We conclude (1) the existence of a tight crosstalk of TGF-β and Bm.2 pathways in HSCs and (2) a Sm.d7 dependently decreased sugar m.tabolism.am.liorates HSC activation probably by energy with-drawal.

Fungal infection dynam.cs in response to tem.erature in the lepidopteran insect Galleria m.llonella

This study exam.nes how the dynam.cs of fungus-insect interactions can be m.dulated by tem.erature. The wax m.th, Galleria m.llonella, is a well-studied and im.ortant m.del insect whose larvae in the wild develop optim.lly at around 34 ℃ in beehives. However, surprisingly little research on wax m.ths has been conducted at relevant tem.eratures. In this study, the entom.pathogenic fungus m.tarhizium.robertsii inflicted rapid and substantial m.rtality on wax m.th larvae m.intained at a constant tem.erature of 24 ℃, but at 34 ℃ a 10 fold higher dose was required to achieve an equivalent m.rtality. The cooler tem.erature favored fungal pathogenicity, with condial adhesion to the cuticle, germ.nation and hem.coel invasion all significantly enhanced at 24 ℃, com.ared with 34 ℃. The wax m.th larvae im.une responses altered with the tem.erature, and with the infective dose of the fungus. Enzym.-based im.une defenses （lysozym. and phenoloxidase） exhibited enhanced activity at the warm.r tem.erature. A dram.tic upregulation in the basal expression of galiom.cin and gallerim.cin was triggered by cooling, and this was augm.nted in the presence of the fungus. Profiling of the predom.nant insect epicuticular fatty acids revealed a 4-7 fold increase in palm.tic, oleic and linoleic acids in larvae m.intained at 24 ℃ com.ared with those at 34 ℃, but these failed to exert fungistatic effects on topically applied fungus. This study dem.nstrates the im.ortance of choosing environm.ntal conditions relevant to the habitat of the insect host when determ.ning the dynam.cs and outcom. of insect/fungus interactions, and has particular significance for the application of entom.pathogens as biocontrol agents.

The com.osition of the gut m.crobiota is linked to m.ltiple diseases,including Parkinson’s disease(PD).Abundance of bacteria producing short-chain fatty acids(SCFAs)and fecal SCFA concentrations are reduced in *** exert various beneficial functions in *** the interventional,m.nocentric,open-label clinical trial “Effects of Resistant Starch on Bowel Habits,Short Chain Fatty Acids and Gut m.crobiota in Parkinson’s Disease”(RESISTA-PD;ID:NCT02784145),we aim.d at altering fecal SCFAs by an 8-week prebiotic intervention with resistant starch(RS).We enrolled 87 subjects in three study-arm.:32 PD patients received RS(PD+RS),30 control subjects received RS,and 25 PD patients received solely dietary *** perform.d paired-end 100 bp length m.tagenom.c sequencing of fecal sam.les using the BGISEQ platform.at an average of 9.9 *** was *** the PD+RS group,fecal butyrate concentrations increased significantly,and fecal calprotectin concentrations dropped significantly after 8 weeks of RS ***,we observed a reduction in non-m.tor sym.tom.load in the PD+RS *** reference-based analysis of m.tagenom.s highlighted stable alpha-diversity and beta-diversity across the three groups,including bacteria producing ***-free analysis suggested punctual,yet pronounced differences in the m.tagenom.c signature in the PD+RS ***-PD highlights that a prebiotic treatm.nt with RS is safe and well-tolerated in *** stable alpha-diversity and beta-diversity alongside altered fecal butyrate and calprotectin concentrations call for long-term.studies,also investigating whether RS is able to m.dify the clinical course of PD.
