Solar air heaters are at the centre of interest owing to their widespread use for various *** the study,thermal performance analysis of a solar air heater that can be easily produced from daily waste materials is *** system has a low-cost structure with both waste material use and a simple *** proposed system is tested under different climatic conditions,and the energetic and the exergetic performance figures are obtained for the first time in *** is observed from the experimental tests that the results are stable and coherent as well as in good accordance with the similar attempts in literature with some cost reductions and performance *** performance analyses indicate that the maximum energy efficiency of the system is about 21%,whereas the exergy efficiency is 1.8%.The energetic and exergetic outputs of the system are also determined to be 27 W and 3 W,respectively,which is promising.

In the present work,polyester composites reinforced with a newly identified Cyperus pangorei fiber(CPF)were developed by compression moulding *** effects of varying fiber content and fiber length on the mechanical properties of the Cyperus pangorei fiber reinforced polyester composites(CPFCs)such as tensile,flexural,and impact properties were *** strength of the CPFCs increased with fiber length up to 40 mm beyond which a reverse trend was *** on the test results,it was concluded that the critical fiber length and the optimum fiber weight percentage were 40 mm and 40 wt%*** maximum increase of 164%and 117%were found for the tensile and flexural strength of the composite with 40 mm fiber length and 40 wt%fiber content,*** the other hand,a 64%increase in impact strength was noticed for the optimum *** increasing contact surface between the fiber and the polyester matrix in optimum condition can restrict the probability of fiber pullout and in turn can make the composite carry more *** chemical structure of CPF was also analyzed using Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy(FTIR)*** morphological analysis of fractured samples was performed using Scanning Electron Microscopy(SEM)to understand the interfacial bonding between CPFs and polyester *** optimal composite can be a suitable alternative in the field of structural applications in construction and automobile industries.

发光二极管(LED)作为新型光源以其质量轻、体积小和耐久性好的特点被广泛应用于园艺植物的生长和光形态发生方面的研究。LED这些良好的特性使其可应用于作物生产,不仅可以适用于培养箱而且也适用于温室。在作物生产中,光照强度、光质和光周期对许多种类植物的光合作用、形态发生和光化学反应发挥作用,并且是影响温室内植物生长发育的基本因素,因此,我们主要的研究目标是探究光强和几种光周期对于植物生长的影响。本研究测量了植物培养箱中多种不同光强和光周期的光环境对叶用莴苣(Lactuca sativaL.)生长和形态建成的影响。这里把光周期和光照水平对叶用莴苣的影响分为三个部分进行研究。第一部分：将三组叶用莴苣分别置于光强为150μmol m-2s-1,100μmol m-2s-1和75μmol m-2S-1光周期同为亮12小时暗12小时的三个不同光环境中。结果显示其对株高和茎粗的影响最为显著。最好的结果出现在光强150μmolm-2s-1光周期12小时亮／12小时暗这一处理组。三种光环境对VC含量以及C02浓度也均有影响,而对叶绿素含量显示出影响。第二部分：将两组叶用莴苣分别置于150μmolm-2s-1和100μmol m-2s-1光周期同为6小时亮6小时暗,交替变换：另一处理组光强为75pμmol m-2s-1光周期为24小时常亮。结果显示,形态参数,例如株高和茎粗,在处理为光强75μmol m-22s-1光周期24小时常亮时最大。与此同时,其生化指标,例如可溶性糖和蛋白质含量也均显著增大。叶绿素a,b和类胡萝卜素含量均未受光强显著地影响。呼吸作用速率和蒸腾作用速率均显著提高,但净光合作用速率没有显著变化。第三部分：将两组叶用莴苣置于光强为150μmol m-2s-1光周期分别为3小时亮3小时暗交替和1.5小时亮1.5小时暗交替的光环境中,另一处理组置于光强为112.5μmol m-2s-1光周期1小时亮0.5小时暗交替变换的光环境中。结果显示,这三种光环境对叶用莴苣叶绿素含量有显著影响。在这三种光环境下叶用莴苣的形态建成、光合作用速率的蒸腾作用速率均较高。未发现生化指标的VC含量,蛋白质含量和可溶性糖含量有显著变化。基于以上结果,认为光强150μmol m-2s-1光周期1.5小时亮1.5小时暗交替的光环境有利于叶用莴苣的生产。

The incidence of Mirizzi syndrome in patients undergoing endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography

BACKGROUND:Mirizzi syndrome is a rare complication of cholelithiasis,characterized by the narrowing of the common hepatic duct as a result of mechanical compression and/or inflammation due to biliary calculus impacted in the infundibula of the gallbladder or in the cystic *** this study,we aimed to describe the clinical presentations,investigations,operative details,and complications of seven patients who underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and were finally diagnosed with Mirizzi syndrome in our center. METHOD:We performed a retrospective analysis of the records of 7 patients with Mirizzi syndrome who underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. RESULTS:The incidence of Mirizzi syndrome was 1.07% of 656 patients given endoscopic retrograde cholangiopan- *** was able to diagnose one *** retrograde cholangiopancreatography suggested the diagnosis in five cases and helped further in the management of these *** patients had cholecystectomy and T-tube placement,and two had cholecystectomy and *** patient with typeⅠMirizzi syndrome according to the Csendes classification successfully underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy. CONCLUSIONS:In the study,the incidence of Mirizzi syndrome was 1.07%of patients who underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. Preoperative diagnosis of Mirizzi syndrome by endoscopicretrograde cholangiopancreatography is important to prevent complications.

Prevalence of retinopathy of prematurity in Brunei Darussalam

AIM: To identify the prevalence of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) among preterm neonates admitted to Department of Neonatology, RIPAS hospital, Brunei Darussalam. ·METHODS: We studied 67 preterm infants fulfilling the eligibility criteria for ROP screening. All infants studied were admitted to the Department of Neonatology, RIPAS Hospital, within a period of one year. Birth weight (BW), gestational age (GA), corrected age at each review, initial and final diagnoses and number of reviews required was recorded for each infant. Infants were followed up two weekly until they reach a corrected age of 40 weeks or complete vascularization was noted. Prevalence of ROP was identified. Descriptive analysis, regression analysis and independent-sample t-test were used to statistically check for differences between ROP and non -ROP groups. ·RESULTS: A total number of 201 ROP screenings were carried out for 67 preterm infants. Males outnumbered females (56.7%). The mean number of reviews per child was (3.19 ±1.1) times (range: 1 -6 times), the mean GA among the preterm babies examined was (29.5 ±2.6) weeks (range: 23 -36 weeks), and the mean BW was 1300 ±500g (range: 660 -3600g). The prevalence of ROP among the examined infants was 34.8% . Prevalence of threshold disease that required laser treatment was 25.4% . Prevalence of ROP among those with extremely low BW was 86.7% compared to 27.8% in those with very low BW. Respiratory distress and congenital heart diseases were significantly associated with higher incidence of ROP. ·CONCLUSION: Lower BW, lower GA and female gender are associated with higher risk of developing ROP among preterm infants in Brunei Darussalam.

Inexpensive synthesis of a high-performance Fe3O4-SiO2-TiO2 photocatalyst： Magnetic recovery and reuse

A sol-gel technique has been developed for the synthesis of a magnetite-silica-titania （Fe3O4-SiO2-TiO2） tertiary nanocomposite with improved photocatalytic properties based on the use of inexpensive titania and silica precursors. The exceptional photocatalytic activity of the resulting materials was demonstrated by using them to photocatalyze the degradation of methylene blue solution. The best formulation achieved 98% methylene blue degradation. An interesting feature of the present work was the ability to magnetically separate and reuse the catalyst. The efficiency of the catalyst remained high during two reuses. The synthesized nanomaterials were characterized by X-ray diffraction （XRD）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, transmission electron micro- scopy （TEM）, Fourier transform infrared （FTIR） spectro- scopy, ultra-violet-visible spectroscopy, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. XRD ana- lysis revealed the formation of multicrystalline systems of cubic magnetite and anatase titania crystals. SEM and TEM characterization revealed well-developed and homo- geneously dispersed particles of size less than 15 nm. FTIR spectra confirmed the chemical interaction of titania and silica. It was further noticed that the optical properties of the prepared materials were dependent on the relative contents of their constituent metal oxides.

AIM To determine the prevalence of colorectal neoplasia in average risk persons 40-59 years of age in Israel and to compare the results with other populations. METHODS We reviewed the results of asymptomatic average-risk subjects, aged 40 to 59 years, undergoing their first screening colonoscopy between April 1994 and January 2014. The detection rates of adenoma, advanced adenoma(AA) and colorectal cancer(CRC) were determined in the 40's and 50's age groups by gender. The prevalence of lesions was compared between age groups. After meticulous review of the literature, these results were compared to published studies addressing the prevalence of colorectal neoplasia in similar patient groups, in a variety of geographical *** We included first screening colonoscopy results of 1750 individuals. The prevalence of adenomas, AA and CRC was 8.3%, 1.0% and 0.2% in the 40-49 age group and 13.7%, 2.4% and 0.2% in the 50-59 age group, respectively. Age-dependent differences in adenoma and AA rates were significant only among men(p < 0.005). Literature review disclosed 17 relevant studies. As expected, in both Asian and Western populations, the risks for overall adenoma and advanced adenoma was significantly higher in the 50's age group as compared to the 40's age group in a similar fashion. The result of the current study were similar to previous studies on Western populations. A substantially higher rate of adenoma, was observed in studies conducted among Asian populations in both age *** The higher rate of colorectal neoplasia in Asian populations requires further investigation and reconsideration as to the starting age of screening in that population.

In this paper,we theoretically investigate the total optical coefficient(TOAC)considering 1S-2P and 2S-2P conduction subband transitions in a single parabolic quantum well(SPQW)with an on-center hydrogen-like *** the framework of the effective-mass approximation,the Schrödinger equation is solved numerically to obtain the eigenvalues and their corresponding eigenvectors using the finite difference *** calculations are performed for finite confinement potential height,taking into account the dielectric and effective mass mismatches between GaN and InGaN materials under the considered electric field and temperature *** temperature dependence of the effective mass,dielectric constant and band gap energy are obtained *** the one hand,the results show that a significant shift is produced with the variation of both the temperature and the intensity of the electric *** the other hand,the absorption spectrum is shifted to lower energies with increasing both electric field strength and ***,its amplitude is enhanced with an increase in the intensity of the electric field,and show a slight drop with increasing temperature for the two optical transitions *** results show that such parameters can be used to adjust the optical properties of single parabolic Quantum Well for solar cell applications.
