Prevelance of Bovine Cysticercosis in Egypt and the Cysticidal Effect of Two Extracts Obtained from Balanites aegyptiaca and Moringa oleifera on Mice Model Affected with T. saginata Cysticerci

The aim of the present study was to determine the prevalence of bovine cysticercosis in both cattle and buffloas, in Egypt and to assess the cysticidal efficacy of Balanites aegyptiaca fruits (B. aegyptiaca) and Moringa oleifera seeds (M. oleifera) extracts in experimentally infected mice. The study detected the level of tumor necrosis factor (TNf-α) to monitor the immune and inflammatory responses of experimentally infected mice. Through meat inspection, a total number of 2125 male bovine, 2 to 5 years old, (1125 cattle and 1000 buffloes) were examined under the authority of Albsatine and Alwaraq official abattoirs in Cairo Governorate, Egypt covering the period extended from March 2022 to April 2023. The overall prevalence of the disease among bovine was 7.8% (6.31% of cattle and 9.5% of buffloes). Besides, B. aegyptiaca and M. oleifera extracts showed cysticidal activity in experimentally infected mice. A decrease in the numbers of cysticerci was found in all treated mice groups, and up to 88% reduction was achieved in the B. aegyptiaca-treated group;higher than that was recorded in both M. oleifera (72.23%) and albendazole-treated ones (80.56%). Postmortem findings proved that M. oleifera and B. aegyptiaca reduced cysticerci numbers comparable to a commercial anthelmintic. The study showed a significant decrease (P 0.001) in TNf-α levels after treatment with Balanites and Moringa extracts, compared with the untreated control and the albendazole-treated groups.

Sporadic venous malformations are genetic conditions primarily caused by somatic gain-of-function mutation of PIK3CA or TEK,an endothelial transmembrane receptor signaling through *** malformations are associated with pain,bleedings,thrombosis,pulmonary embolism,esthetic deformities and,in severe cases,life-threatening *** authorized medical treatment exists for patients with venous ***,we created a genetic mouse model of PIK3CA-related capillary venous malformations that replicates patient *** showed that these malformations only partially signal through AKT *** compared the efficacy of different drugs,including rapamycin,a mTORC1 inhibitor,miransertib,an AKT inhibitor and alpelisib,a PI3Kαinhibitor at improving the lesions seen in the mouse *** demonstrated the effectiveness of alpelisib in preventing vascular malformations’occurrence,improving the already established ones,and prolonging *** these findings,we were authorized to treat 25 patients with alpelisib,including 7 children displaying PIK3CA(n=16)or TEK(n=9)-related capillary venous malformations resistant to usual therapies including sirolimus,debulking surgical procedures or percutaneous *** assessed the volume of vascular malformations using magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)for each *** demonstrated improvement in all 25 *** malformations previously considered intractable were reduced and clinical symptoms were *** showed a decrease of 33.4%and 27.8%in the median volume of PIK3CA and TEK malformations respectively,over 6 months on *** conclusion,this study supports PI3Kαinhibition as a promising therapeutic strategy in patients with PIK3CA or TEK-related capillary venous malformations.

Introduction: Cardiovascular disease represents a major public health burden worldwide. Research and management of risk factors contribute to the prevention of these diseases. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of dyslipidemia in the biochemistry unit of the Charles De Gaulle Pediatric University Hospital (CHUP-CDG) in Ouagadougou. Material and Methods: This was a descriptive and analytical cross-sectional study, with retrospective data collection from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022. Patients of all ages who performed a lipid panel in the CHUP-CDG biochemistry unit during the study period have been included. Results: A total of 2872 patients have been included. The mean age of the study population was 27.72 ± 19.51 years and the M/f sex ratio was 0.81. Among the patients, 22.84% had at least one dyslipidemia. The prevalences of hypercholesterolemia, hypo-HDL cholesterolemia and hyper-LDL cholesterolemia were 11.57%, 49.19% and 57.50% respectively. Hypertriglyceridemia and mixed hyperlipidemia were present in 9.04% and 2.08% of patients. Hypercholesterolemia was significantly more frequent in the female sex (p = 0.0077);hyper-LDL cholesterolemia (p = 0.0255) and mixed hyperlipidemia (p Conclusion: The relatively high prevalence of dyslipidemia in the study indicates a worrying situation. It would therefore appear essential to extend the search for risk factors nationwide, particularly those that can be modified, in order to reduce morbidity and mortality linked to cardiovascular disease.

Molecular Docking Study of the Binding Interaction of Hydroxychloroquine, Dexamethasone and Other Anti-Inflammatory Drugs with SARS-CoV-2 Protease and SARS-CoV-2 Spikes Glycoprotein

Aims: The outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is still accountable for millions of deaths worldwide and declared as a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation. Despite efforts, there is still limited evidence available on a successful potent inhibitor with a low toxicity profile that can aid in the prevention and/or treatment of COVID-19. This study will focus on four main aspects: 1) screening 19 food Drug and Administration (fDA) approved drugs using computational molecular docking;2) assessing drug toxicity profiles using biological data;3) recommending potential therapies against COVID-19 and 4) supplementing currently used therapies. Methods: 19 fDA approved drugs were investigated against the crystal structure of SARS-CoV-2 protease (6LU7) and SARS-CoV-2 glycoprotein (6VXX) using a computational molecular docking software, Molecular Operating Environment (MOE). Separately, on MOE, 6LU7 and 6VXX were loaded, prepared, and the binding pockets located. The drug’s canonical SMILES were imported, minimised, and docked on the prepared proteins using a search algorithm to establish the highest stability conformation. Drugs were ranked depending on binding properties and biological data to assess safety;steric clashes and voids in the binding site were also analysed. Results and discussion: Out of the nineteen (19) fDA approved drugs, 18 inhibited 6LU7 and 13 inhibited 6VXX. High-ranked drugs based on binding properties for 6LU7 were hydroxychloroquine, dexamethasone, naproxen, etoricoxib, and ibuprofen. for 6VXX were hydroxychloroquine, celecoxib, etoricoxib, meloxicam, and parecoxib. Considering safety profile, the top 3 drugs in descending order for 6LU7 were etoricoxib, naproxen and dexamethasone and for 6VXX were etoricoxib, meloxicam, and parecoxib. Short and Long Term Effects of Pomegranate （Punica Granatum） Extracts on Apoptosis in Rat Kidney Induced by Diethylnitrosamine and Phenobarbital

Pomegranate （Punica granatum L.） has strong anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti obesity, and anticancer effects. The effect of different pomegranate extracts, PE （peel extract）, SOE （seed oil extract）, and PJ （pomegranate juice） extract on levels of kidney caspase-3, DNAf （DNA fragmentation） and kidney function tests in rats treated and untreated with DEN （diethyl nitrosamine） and PB （Phenobarbital） during short （35 days） and long （154 days） period was studied. Injected of rats with DEN and PB caused an increased in the levels ofDNAf, caspase-3 and kidney function tests, compared to the control in both period of study. Treatment of rats with PE, SOE, PJ pre, during, and post DEN and PB administration improved kidney function and decreased the levels of DNAf, and caspase-3 activities compared to the DEN group in both period of study, indicates that PE, SOE, PJ reduced and treatment apoptosis induced by DEN and PB. Treatment of healthy rats with PE, SOE, and PJ only for 35 days not increased kidney function or induced apoptosis for kidney tissues. Treatment with PJ alone in healthy kidney induced apoptosis which was higher than that induced by SOE and PE in case of long period study, this mean that fresh fruit or pomegranate juice safe for healthy in general at harvesting season only.

Bacterial infections post-living-donor liver transplantation in Egyptian hepatitis C virus-cirrhotic patients: A singlecenter study

AIM To determine risk factors, causative organisms and antimicrobial resistance of bacterial infections following living-donor liver transplantation(LDLT) in cirrhotic *** This prospective study included 45 patients with hepatitis C virus-related end-stage liver disease who underwent LDLT at Ain Shams Center for Organ Transplant, Cairo, Egypt from January 2014 to November 2015. Patients were followed-up for the first 3 mo after LDLT for detection of bacterial infections. All patients were examined for the possible risk factors suggestive of acquiring infection pre-, intra-and post-operatively. Positive cultures based on clinical suspicion and patterns of antimicrobial resistance were identified. RESULTS Thirty-three patients(73.3%) suffered from bacterial infections; 21 of them had a single infection episode, and 12 had repeated infection episodes. Bile was the most common site for both single and repeated episodes of infection(28.6% and 27.8%, respectively). The most common isolated organisms were gramnegative bacteria. Acinetobacter baumannii was the most common organism isolated from both single and repeated infection episodes(19% and 33.3%, respectively), followed by Escherichia coli for repeated infections(11.1%), and Pseudomonas aeruginosa for single infections(19%). Levofloxacin showed high sensitivity against repeated infection episodes(P = 0.03). Klebsiella, Acinetobacter and Pseudomonas were multi-drug resistant(MDR). Pre-transplant hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) and duration of drain insertion(in days) were independent risk factors for the occurrence of repeated infection episodes(P = 0.024).CONCLUSION MDR gram-negative bacterial infections are common post-LDLT. Pre-transplant HCC and duration of drain insertion were independent risk factors for the occurrence of repeated infection episodes.

Cu- and Ni-Doping Effect on Structure and Magnetic Properties of fe-Doped ZnO Nanoparticles

Cu- and Ni-codoped feZnO particles with the wurzite structure were successfully synthesized at low temperature by a co-precipitation method. The samples were characterized using a vibrating sample magnetometer, X-ray diffraction, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectrophotometry and electron spin resonance. The results demonstrated that room temperature ferromagnetic order was observed in both samples and the magnetization was higher than that of fe-doped ZnO. The correlation between the structural and magnetic properties is discussed.

Impact of zinc and arginine on antioxidant status of weanling piglets raised under commercial conditions

The effects of dietary zinc and L-arginine supplements on the weight gain,feed efficiency,antioxidant capacity and oxidative status of weanling piglets raised under commercial conditions were examined.A total of 288 piglets aged 21 d were fed for 15 d a diet supplemented or not with 2,500 mg/kg of zinc(provided as zinc oxide)and 1% L-arginine *** 4 treatments were distributed in a randomized complete block design with 6 initial body weight categories(12 animals per pen).Access to feed and water was ad *** were analyzed as a 2 x 2 factorial experiment using the SAS MIXED procedure,with zinc and arginine as the main independent *** collection day(d 8 and 15,samples were collected from the same 2 piglets in each pen before the morning feeding)was included as a third *** zinc supplement increased the average daily gain(ADG)from d 0 to 7.d 8 to 15 and d 0 to 15(0.289 vs.0.217 kg/d).average daily feed intake(ADfR)from d 8 to 15 and d 0 to 15(0.338 vs.0.279 kg/d)and the gain to feed(G:f)ratio from d 0 to 7 and d 0 to 15(0.86 vs.0.77)(Pficantly decreased the malondialdehyde concentration(zinc:4.37 vs.3.91 μmol/L,P= 0.005;arginine:4.38 vs.3.89 μmol/L,P = 0.002).Total antioxidant capacity and reduced glutathione(GSH)increased from d 8 to 15(0.953 vs.1.391 μmol/L,2.22 vs.3.37 μmol/L,Pf dietary *** and oxidized GSH concentrations on d 8 were higher in response to the combined supplements(zinc x arginine interaction.Pfed either Zn-supplemented diet had a lower haptoglobin serum concentration(509 vs.1.417 mg/L;Pformance(ADG and ADfI)and oxidative status(based on malondialdehyde concentration).The arginine supplement had a limited effect on growth performance and oxidative status under these conditions.

Recently, new low-energy modes of excitation called pygmy resonances have been *** distinct feature is the close connection to nuclear skin oscillations. A successful description of the pygmy resonances could be achieved in a microscopic theoretical approach which incorporates the density functional theory and QRPA formalism extended with multi-phonon degrees of freedom. The latter is found of crucial importance for the understanding of the fine structure of nuclear electric and magnetic excitations at low energies. Corresponding microscopic multi-phonon response functions are implemented in the studies of s-process of nucleosynthesis.
