Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)is a highly aggressive adult-onset neurodegenerative disease caused by the progressive loss of upper and lower motor ***,it causes irreversible muscle atrophy and spasticity,leading to death due to respiratory failure,usually within 2–5 years after the first symptom *** 85%of ALS cases are classified as sporadic,while the remaining 15%are of familial origin,but the overall clinical and molecular features of the disease are almost undistinguishable in the two *** majority of familial ALS cases are caused by pathogenic variants of C9orf72,SOD1,TARDBP,FUS,ANG and OPTN genes that are inherited by a Mendelian pattern and display high penetrance(Kiernan et al.,2020).

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effects of Hippeastrum hybridum(HH)as a free radical scavenger,and an inhibitor of the two enzymes i-e Alpha-amylase(α-amylase)and acetylcholinesterase(AChE).METHODS:In this study,HH plant was preliminary analyzed for phytochemical screening and then tested for its antioxidant,anti-α-amylase,and anti-AChE efficiency via standard ***:Phytochemical analysis shows the existence of different compounds;while Coumarins and quinones were *** total phenolic,flavonoid,and tannins content were found to be(78.52±0.69)mg GAE/g,(2.01±0.04)mg RUE/g,and(58.12±0.23)mg TAE/g of plant extract respectively.28.02%±0.02%alkaloid and 2.02%±0.05%saponins were present in the HH *** HH extract showed the anti-oxidant property with IC50(50%inhibition)of(151.01±0.13)(HH),(79.01±0.04)(Ascorbic acid)for ferric reducing,(91.48±0.13)(HH),(48.02±0.11)(Ascorbic acid)against Ammonium molybdenum,(156.02±0.31)(HH),(52.38±0.21)(Ascorbic acid)against DPPH,136.01±0.21(HH),52.02±0.31(Ascorbic acid)against H_(2)O_(2),and 154.12±0.03(HH),(40.05±0.15)(Ascorbic acid)μg/mL against ABTS *** analysis indicated that HH caused a competitive type of inhibition ofα-amylase(V_(max)remained constant and Km increases from 10.65 to84.37%)while Glucophage caused the un-competitive type of inhibition i-e both Km and V_(max)decreased from40.49 to 69.15%and 38.86 to 69.61%*** K_(i),(inhibition constant);K_(I),(dissociation constant),K_(m),(Michaelis-Menten constant),and IC50 were found to be62,364,68.1,and 38.08±0.22 for HH and 12,101.05,195,34.01±0.21 for ***,HH causes an anon-competitive type of inhibition of AChE i-e Km remains constant while V_(max)decreases from 60.5%to74.1%.The calculated K_(i),K_(I),K_(m),and IC50 were found to be 32,36.2,0.05,and 18.117±***:From the current results,it is concluded that HH extract contains bioactive compounds,and could be a good alternative to controlling oxidant

Among-population differences in morphology and behaviors such as boldness have been shown to co-vary with eco- logical conditions, including predation regime. However, between- and within-population covariation of predator defense mor- phology with variation in behaviors relevant to ecology and evolution （boldness, exploration, activity, sociability and aggressive- ness, often defined as personality traits when they are consistent across time and contexts） have never been quantified together in a single study in juvenile fish from populations found in contrasting environments. We measured predator defense morphology differences between adults from two freshwater populations of threespine sticklebacks with different ecological conditions. We then quantified five behaviors in juveniles from both populations raised in a common environment. Wild-caught adults showed significant differences in predator defense morphology. One population had significantly lower lateral plate number, shorter dorsal spine, pelvic spine and pelvic girdle. Furthermore, 61% of individuals from that population showed an absence of pelvic spine and girdle. At the population level, we found that differences in defense morphology in adults between the two lakes were coupled with differences in behaviors in juveniles raised in a common environment. Levels of activity, aggressiveness and boldness were higher in juveniles from the population lacking predator defense structures. At the individual level, anti-predator morphology of adult females could not predict their offspring＇s behavior, but juvenile coloration predicted individual boldness in a popula- tion-specific manner. Our results suggest that ecological conditions, as reflected in adult predator defense morphology, also affect juvenile behavior in threespine sticklebacks, resulting in trait co-specialization, and that there is a genetic or epigenetic compo- nent to these behavioral differences [Current Zoology 58 （1）： 53-65, 2012].

Preoperative imaging staging based on tumor,node,metastasis classification cannot be effective to avoid R1 resection because only further improvements in imaging technologies will allow the precise assessment of perineural and lymphatic invasion and the occurrence of microscopic tumour deposits in the ***,waiting for further improvements in imaging technologies,total mesopancreas excision remains the only tool able to precisely assess mesopancreatic resection margin status,maximize the guarantee of radicality in cases of negative(R0)mesopancreatic resection margins,and stage the mesopancreas.

Tumour rupture of gastrointestinal stromal tumours(GISTs)has been considered to be a remarkable risk factor because of its unfavourable impact on the oncological *** tumour rupture has not yet been included in the current tumor-node-metastasis classification of GISTs as a prognostic factor,it may change the natural history of a low-risk GIST to a high-risk ***,tumour rupture was defined as the spillage or fracture of a tumour into a body cavity,but recently,new definitions have been *** definitions distinguished from the prognostic point of view between the major defects of tumour integrity,which are considered tumour rupture,and the minor defects of tumour integrity,which are not considered tumour ***,it has been demonstrated that the risk of disease recurrence in R1 patients is largely modulated by the presence of tumour ***,after excluding tumour rupture,R1 may not be an unfavourable prognostic factor for ***,after the standard adjuvant treatment of imatinib for GIST with rupture,a high recurrence rate *** review highlights the prognostic value of tumour rupture in GISTs and emphasizes the need to carefully take into account and minimize the risk of tumour rupture when choosing surgical strategies for GISTs.

Relationship between antral distension and postprandial symptoms in functional dyspepsia

AIM: To investigate in patients with functional dyspepsia (FD) after an every-day meal whether (1) gastrointestinal (GI) and extra-GI symptoms had any relation with the degree of antral volume, (2) the onset of postprandial symptoms was associated with, and may predict, delayed gastric emptying. METHODS: In 94 symptomatic FD patients, antral volume variations and gastric emptying were assessed with ultrasonography after a 1050 kcal meal. Symptoms were evaluated with a standardized questionnaire. The association of GI and extra-GI symptoms with antral volumes and gastric emptying were estimated with logistic regression analysis. RESULTS: Forty percent of patients did not report any symptoms after a meal. Compared to the healthy controls, the antrum was more distended in patients throughout the entire observation period and 37 (39.4%) patients had delayed gastric emptying. Only postprandial drowsiness was associated with antral volume variations (AOR = 1.42; P < 0.001) and with delayed gastric emptying (AOR = 3.59; P < 0.03). CONCLUSION: In FD patients, GI symptoms are neither associated with antral distension nor with gastric emptying. Drowsiness is associated with antral distension and delayed gastric emptying. The onset of drowsiness is preceded by an increment of antral distension and the duration of the symptom appears to be related to the persistence of antral distension.

A correspondence between the ＂meso＂ of the rectum and of the pancreas has recently been reported. Here we highlight the differences between mesorectum and mesopancreas. Based on anatomical findings from a series of 89 consecutive pancreaticoduodenectomies and 71 consecutive total mesorectal excisions, we observed that in contrast to the mesorectum, the mesopancreas did not have well-defined anatomic boundaries and was continuous and connected through its components with the para-aortic area. In rectal cancer,tumor deposits and nodal involvement could be confined to the mesorectum（i.e., within the mesorectal fascia）, whereas in pancreatic carcinoma, tumor deposits and nodal metastases occurred in the boundless mesopancreatic area. Total mesorectal excision was made en bloc with the rectum by dissecting along the mesorectal fascia; this was not the case for mesopancreatic excision since anatomical demarcation of the mesopancreas did not exist. Moreover, the growth pattern of pancreatic cancer showed greater dispersion, which was more prominent at the invasive front of the tumor and could potentially affect the status of the resection margin. These findings indicate that the mesorectum and mesopancreas are completely distinct from the pathological, surgical, and oncological standpoints.
