Stable Silver Nanoparticles Synthesis by Citrus Sinensis(Orange) and Assessing Activity Against Food Poisoning Microbes

Silver nanoparticles are considerecl as good antimicrobial agent. AgNPs were synthesized by mixing silver nitrate solution with citrus sinesb extract for 2 h at 37 and analyzed by UV-visible spectra, SEM, XRD, and FTIR. AgNPs were tested against B. subtilis, Shigello, S. oureus, ond E. coli. Minimum inhibitory concentration of AgNPs was 20 I^g/mL for B. subtilis and Shigello and 30 I^g/mL for S. oureus and E. coll. Antibiofilm activity （80% to 90%） was observed at 25 IJg/mL. AgNPs were stable for five months with sustained an＇timicrobial activity. Biosynthesized AgNPs can bE： used to inhibit food poisoning microbial growth.

PCR Targeting of Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria in Public Drinking Water of Lahore Metropolitan,Pakistan

Objective To investigate the prevalence of kanamycin （kan） and ampicillin （amp） resistant bacteria in public drinking water. Methods Bacteria containing kan and amp resistant genes were amplified by PCR and further characterized by colony hybridization and transformation studies. The genus of kan and amp resistant bacteria was determined with standard methods. Results Among the 625 drinking water samples, 400 contained kan and amp resistant bacteria and the percentage was 42.5% and 57.5%, respectively, which was further confirmed by the amplification of a 810 bp kan resistant gene and a 850 bp amp resistant gene. Of the 170 kan resistant bacteria, 90 were Gram negative and 80 were Gram positive. Of the 230 amp resistant bacteria, 160 were Gram negative while 70 were Gram positive. Salmonella, Shigella, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, and *** were detected as 13%, 11%, 17%, 30%, and 29%, respectively. Bacterial strain DH5α transformed with plasmids isolated from kan and amp resistant bacteria confirmed that the antibiotic resistant genes were mediated by plasmids. Conclusion Drinking water is contaminated with kan and amp resistant bacteria due to poor sanitary conditions.

Climate Change Trend Observations in Morocco: Case Study of Beni Mellal-Khenifra and darâa-Tafilalt Regions

Despite the extreme events impact on various climate events frequency and intensity in many developing countries, there has been dearth information on daily climate trends and climatic extremes. This study comes to characterize the climate type and its evolution in Morocco, specially the two regions Beni Mellal-Khenifra and daraa-Tafilalt. RClimdex software has been used to calculate pluvio-thermal and ombro-thermic indices in the studied stations to reveal climate type in the two regions, their evolutions, and the daily extreme temperatures and precipitations. A cartographic representation has been done for the calculated indices and climatic trends in the stations from 1970 to 2016. As results, the temperature trend for hot day’s number shows a significant increase, while the cold night’s numbers, warm sequences, and precipitation are gradually decreases especially at Khouribga and Midelt. These observed modifications influence negatively the annual rainfall total in the year, the consecutive wet days, the maximums rainy days, and the increase of consecutively dry days. As a conclusion, the Martonne aridity and ombro-thermic indices, show that the temperatures and precipitations evolutions do not induce a change in the climate type for the studied regions.

Background: From May 2018 to September 2022, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) experienced seven Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreaks within its borders. During the 10th EVD outbreak (2018–2020), the largest experienced in the DRC and the second largest and most prolonged EVD outbreak recorded globally, a WHO risk assessment identified nine countries bordering the DRC as moderate to high risk from cross border importation. These countries implemented varying levels of Ebola virus disease preparedness interventions. This case study highlights the gains and shortfalls with the Ebola virus disease preparedness interventions within the various contexts of these countries against the background of a renewed and growing commitment for global epidemic preparedness highlighted during recent World Health Assembly *** text: Several positive impacts from preparedness support to countries bordering the affected provinces in the DRC were identified, including development of sustained capacities which were leveraged upon to respond to the subsequent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Shortfalls such as lost opportunities for operationalizing cross-border regional preparedness collaboration and better integration of multidisciplinary perspectives, vertical approaches to response pillars such as surveillance, over dependence on external support and duplication of efforts especially in areas of capacity building were also identified.
