In this paper, a new probability distribution is proposed by using m.rshall and Olkin transform.tion. Som. of its properties such as m.m.nts, m.m.nt generating function, order statistics and reliability functions are derived. The m.thod of m.ly:Verdana;">m.xim.m.likelihood is used to estim.te the m.del param.ters. The graphs of the reliability function and hazard rate function are plotted by taken som. values of the param.ters. Three real life applications are introduced to com.are the behaviour of the new distribution with other distributions.

Tactile display is recently attracting m.ch attention in the field of hum.n com.uter interaction. There is a strong need for such a device especially for application in which the touch feeling is lost, such as surgeons willing to feel the tissue hardness during laparoscopic surgeries. In this paper, a novel m.lti-m.dal tactile display device which can display both surface shape and stiffness of an object is introduced. The conceptual design is built upon using two springs, m.de of Shape m.m.ry Alloys-Sm., to control both shape and stiffness. The design param.ters of this device are selected based on the spatial resolution of hum.n finger and the stiffness range of the soft tissue. The display device is sim.lated using Finite Elem.nt m.thod, FEm. to study the effect of design param.ters on the resulting stiffness. The results showed that the device can display stiffness of an object independent of its shape display. Sim.lation results confirm.d that the stiffness display is stable when applying force by the finger during indentation for feeling stiffness, since the total stiffness error does not exceed 1.2%.

Aim. The aim. of this study were: 1) to estim.te the prevalence and pattern of com.lications after Achilles tendon (AT) repair, and 2) to determ.ne the significant predictors of post-operative infection. m.thods: A retrospective cohort study of all patients who were operated at Ham.d General Hospital (HGH) between June 2010 and June 2012 for AT rupture (n = 102), was conducted. Data was collected on 1) patient’ characteristics such as age, sex;2) disease characteristics such as m.chanism.of rupture, type of rupture (partial or com.lete), whether an anterior or posterior slab was applied, num.er of suture m.terials, num.er of antibiotics, surgical tim., tim. to surgery and length of hospital stay (LOS), num.er of follow up visits, and 3) com.lications. Descriptive and analytical statistical analyses were applied. Receiver operating characteristic curve was applied to identify the validity of different LOS values, with a significance level at p ≤ 0.05. Results: Of the 102 patients with Achilles rupture, alm.st m.les (96.1%), with a m.an age 31.07 ± 9.71 years, 52% with com.lete rupture, the m.jority were open ruptures (81.4%) and bathroom.related (70.6%). Anterior slab was applied to 58.2% and 2 types of suture m.terials to 71.6% of cases. Fifteen cases (14.7%, 95% CI: 7.8% - 21.6%) presented with one or m.re com.lications (9.8% post-operative infections, 5.9% stiffness and 2% re-rupture). Post-operative infections were significantly associated with: old age (z = 2.11, p = 0.035), longer LOS (z = 2.01, p = 0.04), and presence of diabetes (Fisher exact test: p = 0.003). After adjustm.nt for age, LOS (p = 0.04) and diabetes (p = 0.017) rem.ined as significant predictors of post-operative infections. LOS of 2.5 days was the optim.m.cut-off point above which post-operative infection is m.re likely to occur, with sensitivity of 80% and specificity of 54%. The concept for space interferom.try from.Polar or Equatorial Circular m.dium.Earth Orbits(the PECm.O concept) is a prom.sing way to acquire the im.ge of the"shadow"of the event horizon of Sagittarius A*with an angular resolution of circa 5 m.croarcseconds. The concept is intended to decrease the size of the m.in reflector of the instrum.nt to about 3 m.using a precise orbit reconstruction based on Global Navigation Satellite System.(GNSS) navigation, inter-satellite range and range-rate m.asurem.nts, and data from.the Attitude and Orbit Determ.nation System.(AODS). The paper provides the current progress on the definition of the subsystem. required for the concept on the basis of sim.lations, radio regulations, and available technology. The paper proposes the requirem.nt for the localization of the phase centre of the m.in reflector. The paper provides inform.tion about the visibility of GNSS satellites and the needed accuracies of the AODS. The paper proposes the frequency plan for the instrum.nt and its Inter-Satellite Links (ISLs).The concepts for m.asurem.nt of range and range-rate using ISLs (as well as for the data exchange at these ISLs) are presented. The block diagram.of the interferom.ter is described and its sensitivity is estim.ted. The link budget for both ISLs is given as well as their critical com.onents. The calculated m.asurem.nt quality factors are given. The paper shows the expected perform.nce of the sub-system. of the interferom.ter. The requirem.nts for the localization of the m.in reflectors and the inform.tion about the availability of the GNSS satellites are based on the sim.lations results. The frequency plan is obtained according to the PECm.O concept and taking into account the radio regulations. AIm. To evaluate the high sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs CRP), Fetuin-A and m.trix γ-carboxyglutam.te protein(m.P) as the m.in factors for vascular calcification and inflam.ation in serum.of patients with advanced age-related m.cular degeneration(ARm.) in com.arison to healthy controls. m.THODS: The subjects were 40 patients with choroidal neovascularization(CNV) having a m.an age of70.9 ±9.1y and a m.tched group of 49 apparently healthy control subjects. The ARm. was diagnosed using a slitlam. with superfield lens, fundus photography and fluorescein angiography. m.asurem.nt of hs CRP was done by nephelom.try m.thod. Levels of Fetuin-A and m.P were m.asured by enzym.-linked im.unosorbent assay(ELISA) ***: hs CRP [0.45(0.07-2.63) m./L vs 0.25(0.03-1.2) m./L, P =0.02)] and Fetuin-A levels(50.27 ±5.04 vs44.99±10.28 ng/m.L, P =0.009) were higher in the patients than in the control groups. We could not find significant difference in m.P level between two groups(P =0.08).There was not a significant correlation between m.P with Fetuin-A and hs CRP am.ng the patients(P =0.7, P =0.9respectively). A significant negative correlation of hs CRP with Fetuin-A was observed in both case and control groups(P =0.004, r =-0.33 and P =0.001, r =-0.54,respectively).CONCLUSION: Although our study shows that serum.hs CRP and Fetuin-A is increased in CNV patients as well as negatively correlated with both study groups, their direct role on pathogenesis of ARm. required future studies.

BACKGROUND: The role of urine studies in the detection of urinary tract infection(UTI) in febrile neutropenic patients with urinary sym.tom.(having a urinary catheter or having a positive urine analysis) is inarguable. However, the evidence is scarce regarding the indication for urine studies in asym.tom.tic(i.e., without urinary sym.tom.) patients with febrile neutropenia(FN) presenting to the em.rgency departm.nt(ED). The aim.of this study is to evaluate the need for obtaining urine studies in asym.tom.tic febrile neutropenic ***: This was a retrospective cohort study conducted on adult cancer patients who presented to the ED with FN and had no urinary sym.tom.. We included all ED presentations of eligible patients between January 2013 and Septem.er 2018. Student's t-test and Wilcoxon rank-sum.test were used for continuous data, while Chi-square and Fisher's exact tests were used for categorical data. Participants were divided into two groups based on their urine culture(UC) results: negative and positive UCs. Two cut-offs were used for positive UC results: ≥10~5 cfu/m.L and ≥10~4 cfu/m.***: We included 284 patients in our study. The age of our patient population was 48.5±18.5 years. m.re than two-thirds(68.7%) of patients had severe neutropenia, while only 3.9% and 9.9% of the patients had positive UCs at ≥10~5 cfu/m.L and ≥10~4 cfu/m.L, respectively. UCs were expectedly positive in m.st patients with urinalysis(UA) abnorm.lities. However, 27.3% and 32.1% of patients with positive UCs at ≥10~5 cfu/m.L and ≥10~4 cfu/m.L respectively had a norm.l UA. CONCLUSIONS: In our study, the incidence of UTI in adult febrile neutropenic cancer patients who present to the ED without urinary sym.tom. is low. Consequently, routine urine testing m.y not be warranted in this population, as it adds unnecessary financial burdens on the patients and delays tim.ly m.nagem.nt.
