Yield and Profit from New and Old Wheat Varieties Using Certified and Farmer-Saved Seeds

Wheat is a strategic crop for food security in Pakistan with predominance of smallholder farmers. Farmer-saved seed （FSS） is used nearly by 75% of farmers for wheat production. Frequent variety or seed replacement is uncommon even among large-scale farmers, and certified seed （CS） is mostly bought to verify the value of new varieties. Replacing old and obsolete varieties by new high yielding disease resistant varieties is key to transferring new genetic gains to farmers. For the first time in Pakistan, on-farm factorial experiments involving seven new and five old wheat varieties and their corresponding CS and FSS were conducted. A total of 49 farmers representing major wheat cropping patterns throughout the country participated in these trials in the 2014 and 2015 wheat growing seasons. Analysis of variance revealed that there was highly significant difference between wheat varieties and between seed classes. New variety ＋ CS gave 33.8% more grain yield as well as higher marginal return over farmers＇ variety ＋ FSS. Grain yield and returns from new variety ＋ FSS and farmers＇ variety ＋ CS were at par. Scientific knowledge generated in this research demonstrated that use of CS ＆new wheat varieties is best option, while growing new varieties with FSS is a second choice for the advantages accruing from their built-in genetic traits of economic importance over growing CS of old and obsolete varieties. Having more flexible seed system will help accelerate the delivery of new genetic gains to farmers＇ fields.

Comparative study of living donor kidney transplants:Right vs left

BACKGROUND Transplant teams often hesitate to use the right kidney(RK)in living donor(LD)transplants due to the complexities of anastomosing the short,thin-walled right renal veins,which can potentially lead to graft loss or graft ***,circumstances may arise where selecting the RK over the left kidney(LK)is ***,it is crucial to thoroughly examine the implications of such a choice on the overall transplant *** To compare transplant outcomes between recipients of RK and LK while examining the factors that influence these *** We retrospectively analyzed data from adult patients who received LD kidney transplants involving meticulous patient selection and surgical techniques at our center from January 2020 to December *** included all kidney donors who were over 18,fit to donate,and had undergone diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid split function and/or computed tomography based *** variables examined comprised donor and recipient demographics,and outcome measures included technical graft loss(TGL),delayed or slow graft function(SGF),and post-transplant serum creatinine(SC)*** used a logistic regression model to assess the likelihood of adverse outcomes considering the donor kidney *** Of the 250 transplants performed during the period,56(22%)were *** recipient demographics and transplant factors were comparable for the right and LKs,except that the donor warm and cold ischemia time were shorter for *** and SGF each occurred in 2%(n=1)of RKs and 0.5%(n=1)of LKs,the difference being *** complications,however,were not related to the venous *** RK(2%)developed delayed graft function after 48 hours,which was attributable to postoperative hypoxia rather than the surgical *** post-transplant SC trend and mean SC at the last follow-up were similar across both kidney *** The donor kidney side has little impact on post-transplant

Magnetohydrodynamic peristaltic flow of a hyperbolic tangent fluid in a vertical asymmetric channel with heat transfer

In the present paper we discuss the magnetohydrodynamic （MHD） peristaltic flow of a hyperbolic tangent fluid model in a vertical asymmetric channel under a zero Reynolds number and long wavelength approximation. Exact solution of the temperature equation in the absence of dissipation term has been computed and the analytical ex- pression for stream function and axial pressure gradient are established. The flow is analyzed in a wave frame of reference moving with the velocity of wave. The expression for pressure rise has been computed numerically. The physical features of pertinent parameters are analyzed by plotting graphs and discussed in detail.

An Early Evaluation and Comparison of Three Private Cloud Computing Software Platforms

Cloud computing, after its success as a commercial infrastructure, is now emerging as a private infrastructure. The software platforms available to build private cloud computing infrastructure vary in their performance for management of cloud resources as well as in utilization of local physical resources. Organizations and individuals looking forward to reaping the benefits of private cloud computing need to understand which software platform would provide the efficient services and optimum utilization of cloud resources for their target applications. In this paper, we present our initial study on performance evaluation and comparison of three cloud computing software platforms from the perspective of common cloud users who intend to build their private clouds. We compare the performance of the selected software platforms from several respects describing their suitability for applications from different domains. Our results highlight the critical parameters for performance evaluation of a software platform and the best software platform for different application domains.

Biomathematical study of time-dependent flow of a Carreau nanofluid through inclined catheterized arteries with overlapping stenosis

This work is concerned with the analysis of blood flow through inclined catheterized arteries having a balloon(angioplasty) with time-variant overlapping stenosis. The nature of blood in small arteries is analyzed mathematically by considering it as a Carreau nanofluid. The highly nonlinear momentum equations of nanofluid model are simplified by considering the mild stenosis case. The formulated problem is solved by a homotopy perturbation expansion in terms of a variant of the Weissenberg number to obtain explicit forms for the axial velocity, the stream function, the pressure gradient, the resistance impedance and the wall shear stress distribution. These solutions depend on the Brownian motion number, thermophoresis number, local temperature Grashof number G_r and local nanoparticle Grash of number B_r. The results were also studied for various values of the physical parameters, such as the Weissenberg number W_i, the power law index n, the taper angle φ, the maximum height of stenosis δ~*, the angle of inclination α, the maximum height of balloon σ~*, the axial displacement of the balloon z_d~*,the flow rate F and the Froud number Fr. The obtained results show that the transmission of axial velocity curves through a Newtonian fluid(Wi=0, n=1, Gr=0, Br=0, Nt=0, Nb≠0) is substantially lower than that through a Carreau nanofluid near the wall of balloon while the inverse occurs in the region between the balloon and stenosis. The streamlines have a clearly distinguished shifting toward the stenotic region and this shifting appears near the wall of the balloon, while it has almost disappeared near the stenotic wall and the trapping bolus in the case of horizontal arteries and Newtonian fluid(Wi=0, n=1, Gr=0, Br=0, Nt=0, Nb≠0) does not appear but for the case of Carreau nanofluid bolus appears.

Analysis of Combined Convective and Viscous Dissipation Effects for Peristaltic Flow of Rabinowitsch Fluid Model

In this article, mathematical modeling for peristaltic flow of Rabinowitsch fluid model is considered in a non-uniform tube with combined effects of viscous dissipation and convective boundary conditions. Wall properties analysis is also taken into account. Non-dimensional differential equations are simplified by using the well-known assumptions of low Reynolds number and long wavelength. The influence of various parameters connected with this flow problem such as rigidity parameter E1, stiffness parameter E2, viscous damping force parameter E3, Brickman number and Biot number are plotted for velocity distribution, temperature profile and for stream function. Results are plotted and discussed in detail for shear thinning, shear thickening and for viscous fluid. It is found that velocity profile is an increasing function of rigidity parameter, stiffness parameter, and viscous damping force parameter for shear thinning and for viscous fluid, due to the less resistance offered by the walls but, quite opposite behavior is depicted for shear thickening fluids. It is seen that Brickman number relates to the viscous dissipation effects, so it contributes in enhancing fluid temperature for all cases.

Induced magnetic field stagnation point flow of nanofluid past convectively heated stretching sheet with Buoyancy effects

This paper presents the buoyancy effects on the magneto-hydrodynamics stagnation point flow of an incompressible,viscous,and electrically conducting nanofluid over a vertically stretching *** impacts of an induced magnetic field and viscous dissipation are taken into *** assisting and opposing flows are *** overseeing nonlinear partial differential equations with the associated boundary conditions are reduced to an arrangement of coupled nonlinear ordinary differential equations utilizing similarity transformations and are then illuminated analytically by using the optimal homotopy investigation strategy（OHAM）.Graphs are introduced and examined for different parameters of the velocity,temperature,and concentration ***,numerical estimations of the skin friction,local Nusselt number,and local Sherwood number are explored using numerical values.

Flow of EMHD nanofluid in curved channel through corrugated walls

The present examination deals with the effects of nanofluids on corrugated walls under the influence of electromagnetohydrodynamic(EMHD)in the curved *** investigation is carried out by water-based nanofluids using copper *** performed the mathematical modelling by applying the method of perturbation,we have evaluated analytical solutions for the velocity and *** the corrugations of the two walls periodic sine waves are described for small amplitude either in phase or out of *** using numerical calculations we analyzed the corrugation effects on the velocity and temperature for EMHD *** physical effects of flow variables like Hartmann number,Volumetric concentration of nanoparticles,Grashof number,Curvature parameter and Heat absorption coefficient are graphically ***,the effect of Curvature parameter on Stresses and Nusselt number is discussed through *** velocity and temperature decrease when the curvature parameter is *** electromagnetohydrodynamic(EMHD)velocity and temperature distributions show that 0°is the phase difference between the two walls for in phase and the phase difference is equal to the 180°between two walls for out of *** important conclusion is that reducing the unobvious wave effect on the velocity and temperature for a small value of amplitude ratio parameter.

Peristaltic flow of Sisko fluid in a uniform inclined tube

We have analyzed an incompressible Sisko fluid through an axisymmetric uniform tube with a sinusoidal wave propagating down its walls. The present analysis of non- Newtonian fluid is investigated under the considerations of long wavelength and low Reynolds number approximation. The analytic solution is obtained using （i） the regular perturbation method （ii） the Homotopy analysis method （HAM）. The comparison of both the solutions is presented graphically. The results for the pressure rise, frictional force and pressure gradient have been calculated numerically and the results are studied for various values of the physical parameters of interest, such as α （angle of inclination）, b^＊（Sisko fluid parameter）, Ф （amplitude ratio） and n （power law index）. Trapping phenomena is discussed at the end of the article.

Unstable mode of ion-acoustic waves with two temperature q-nonextensive distributed electrons

The linear characteristics of the unstable mode of ion-acoustic waves are examined in an electrostatic electron-ion plasma composed of streaming hot electrons,non-streaming cold electrons and dynamical positive *** plasma under consideration is modeled by using a non-gyrotropic nonextensive q-distribution function in which the free energy source for wave excitation is provided by the relative directed motion of streaming hot electrons with respect to the other plasma *** the frame work of kinetic model,a linearized set of Vlasov-Poisson's equations are solved to obtain the analytical expressions for dispersion relation and Landau damping *** threshold condition for the unstable ion-acoustic wave is derived to assess the stability of the wave in the presence of nonextensive *** in the wave spectrum and nontrivial effects of q-nonextensive parameter on the ion-acoustic waves can be of interest for the readers in the regions of Saturns's magnetosphere.
