Study of the growth,reproductive biology and abundance for invasive shrimps Palaemon elegans Rathke from Garmat ali river Basrah,Southern Iraq

Objective:To describe the growth,reproductive biology and abundance of the population of invasive shrimps Palaemon elegans(***)in one of the branches of Garmat ali river at Basrah,Southern ***:Monthly samples of the prawn *** were collected with a bottom hand net(40 cm,0.5 mm mesh)hauled over a distance of 10 m.A simple random sampling was conducted monthly between December 2012 and November ***:Seasonal changes were observed in the composition of the population of the species during the study year with the highest abundance in 2013 and the lowest abundance for the males was reported in January and for the females occurred in *** showed a significant correlation with the abundance of shrimps at the sampling *** largest female measured 67.90 mm while the corresponding value for males was 61.31 *** proportion of ovigerous adults rose during spring season to peak on about July and ovigerous prawns were taken in all months of the *** sex ratio indicated a preponderance of females over males in all months in the study *** females produced around 36-1324 eggs and the incubation period lasted for 11-14 days at 17-29°***:The results of the present study indicate that this species has a wide distribution range,high density,and great reproduction *** study reveals the lack of researches on this species in environments of Shatt al-Arab river and its ***,*** has most likely formed a permanent population in all the brackish waters in Basrah area.

alterations in D-Dimer, Prothrombin Time and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time as Thrombogenesis Activity Markers in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of mortality and morbidity despite the identification of major risk factors and risk reduction strategies. Myocardial infarction (MI) is a relevant cardiovascular worldwide event for morbidity and mortality. In most cases, sudden cardiac death is triggered by ischemia-related ventricular tachyarrhythmia and accounts for 50% of deaths from cardiovascular disease in developed countries. This is a descriptive analytical case control study aimed to determine D-dimer, PT and PTT level and among patients with acute myocardial infarction conducted in Sudan cardiac center hospital. Thirty patients after MI and twenty normal controls have been studied. The MI patients also include co-exist disease diabetes and hypertension, they receive different anticoagulants therapy. The result demonstrates a significant increase post MI in the mean level of D-dimer (p = 0.00) whereas none significantly compares to control group. There are no differences between INR (0.393), PTT (0.648) and PT (0.393), parameters between cases and controls. In conclusion, our study reveals higher D-dimer level among patients than the control. In conclusion, serum D-dimer levels appear to be useful for diagnosing MI and may assist in the prediction of mortality among those patients which are presented with acute chest pain or known diagnosed with MI and should be done as indicator for thrombosis risk during therapy in post MI.

Characterization of Radiation Prepared Copolymer and Studies of Their Biodegradability

Blends of biodegradable copolymer based on starch, poly lactic acid (PLA), poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) and natural rubber (NR) have been prepared. Gamma radiation induced synthesis and modification of polymer hydrogel was studied. The polymer blends have been chemically surface modified by glycerol. The modified polymer blends have been investigated for swelling ratio, tensile strength and 9 scanning electron microscopy. The swelling ratio of polymer blends increased significantly after surface modification with glycerol. The swelling of polymer was decreased as a function of (NR) content in polymer blends. The gel fraction (PVA-starch-PLA) and (PVA-starch-NR) blends increased by increasing the radiation doses (kGy) to reach the maximum amount of (~99%) and (~88.2%), respectively. Addition of 2.5% (PLA) led to greater increase of the swelling ratio than 10% (NR) to blends and the maximum swelling was found at dose (5 kGy). At concentration of glycerol (5.0% w/w), tensile strength decreased and elongation at break % increased. The polymers degrading microorganisms were isolated from soil samples. The degradation ability of the microbial isolates for each polymeric material was tested on agar plates. Among these isolates, the most efficient degrader isolates for prepared blends in MSM shaking flasks were selected and the degradation was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy.

Electro Analytical Determination of Di Hydroxybenzene Isomers Using Glassy Carbon Electrode

In this study, the electrochemical oxidation of CT (catechol), HQ (hydroquinone) and RS (resorcinol) was investigated using cyclic and linear sweep voltammetries at GCE (glassy carbon electrode). The GCE showed an excellent electro activity and reversibility towards the oxidation of these isomers at different conditions. HQ and CT showed one defined oxidation peak and one defined reduction peak while RS showed one defined oxidation peak. These isomers were determined also in their binary and tertiary mixtures. The calibration curves for CT, HQ and RS were obtained in the ranges of 5 × 10 -6 to 1 × 10 -3 mol·dm -3, 5 × 10 -6 to 5 × 10 -4 mol·dm -3 and 1 × 10 -5 to 1 × 10 -3 mol·dm -3, respectively. The detection limits were 9 × 10 -7, 3 × 10 -7, 6 × 10 -6 mol·dm -3 for CT, HQ and RS, respectively. At the optimal experimental conditions, these isomers were determined in different water samples. also, the removal of catechol from aqueous solution by adsorption on activated charcoal and alumina was studied. After 24 h, 88.7% and 65.9% of catechol was removed using charcoal and alumina, respectively.

In response to the global food crisis and the imperative to address soil degradation, the international agricultural policy is actively working to alleviate the adverse impacts of soil salinity. As part of this initiative, a field trial spanning two consecutive seasons (2019/20-2020/21) was conducted under saline conditions. The primary objective was to evaluate the influence of various compost sources, including vermicompost at a rate of 0.5 ton·fed-1 and plant residues compost at a rate of 5.0 ton·fed-1, as main plots. Subplots were established by applying agricultural gypsum, both in the presence and absence of gypsum requirements. Additionally, sub-subplots were created by externally applying cobalt at a rate of 10.0 mg·L-1, with one sub-subplot receiving foliar cobalt application and the other not. The trial sought to assess the growth performance, chemical composition, enzymatic antioxidants, yield, and quality of cabbage plants (Brassica oleracea var. capitata L.) cultivated in saline soil. According to the findings, cabbage plants exhibited the most favorable response in terms of plant height, chlorophyll content, carotene levels, leaf area, nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), head yield, vitamin C, and total dissolved solids (TDS) when treated with vermicompost, followed by plant compost. Conversely, plants grown without compost exhibited the least improvement in performance. Cabbage treated with agricultural gypsum requirements showed better performance than those without gypsum amendment. Moreover, plants subjected to cobalt spray demonstrated the highest growth, yield, and quality parameters compared to those without cobalt foliar application. In contrast, the control group (plants without the studied treatments) displayed the highest levels of enzymatic antioxidants, specifically catalase and peroxidase. This indicates that soil salinity stress led to an increase in catalase and peroxidase production in cabbage
