Biowaste valorization through anaerobic digestion is an attractive option to achieve both climate protection goals and renewable energy *** this paper,a complete set of batch trials was carried out on kitchen waste to investigate the effects of mild thermal pretreatment,temperature regimen and substrate/inoculum *** pretreatment was effective in the solubilisation of macromolecular fractions,particularly *** ability of the theoretical methodologies in estimating hydrogen and methane yields of complex substrates was evaluated by comparing the experimental results with the theoretical *** the single batch configuration,a significant initial hydrogen production was observed,prior to methane *** pretreatment effect was the gain in hydrogen production;the extent was highly variable according to the other parameters *** hydrogen yields,up to 113 mL H2/g VSfed,were related to the prompt transformation of soluble *** regimen resulted,as expected,in faster digestions(up to 78 mL CH4/gVS/day) and sorted out pH *** relatively low methane yields(342-398 mL CH4/g VSfed) were the result of the consistent lignocellulosic content and low lipid *** pretreatment proved to be a promising option for the enhancement of hydrogen production in food waste dark fermentation.

This case report describes the unusual presentation of a patient who had findings which were initially suggestive of a type Ⅳ choledochal cyst. Her liver biopsy demonstrated biliary cirrhosis. She was treated with endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and biliary stent exchanges over one year. Her cholangiogram one year later demonstrated resolution of the biliary cystic dilation which led to her initial diagnosis, with beading and stricturing of the hepatic ducts consistent with primary sclerosing cholangitis. Liver-associated enzymes and physical findings also improved. A liver biopsy one year later demonstrated a marked improvement in hepatic fibrosis with no evidence of cirrhosis.

BACKGROUND Changes in N-linked glycosylation have been observed in the circulation of individuals with hepatocellular carcinoma. In particular, an elevation in the level of core fucosylation has been observed. However, the mechanisms through which core fucose is increased are not well understood. We hypothesized that a review of the literature and related bioinformatic review regarding six genes known to be involved in the attachment of core fucosylation, the synthesis of the fucosylation substrate guanosine diphosphate(GDP)-fucose, or the transport of the substrate into the Golgi might offer mechanistic insight into the regulation of core fucose *** To survey the literature to capture the involvement of genes regulating core Nlinked fucosylation in hepatocellular carcinoma mETHODS The Pubmed biomedical literature database was searched for the association of hepatocellular carcinoma and each of the core fucose-related genes and their protein products. We also queried The Cancer Genome Atlas Liver hepatocellular carcinoma(LIHC) dataset for genetic, epigenetic and gene expression changes for the set of six genes using the tools at *** A total of 27 citations involving one or more of the core fucosylation-related genes(FPGT, FUK, FUT8, GmDS, SLC35 C1, TSTA3) and hepatocellular carcinoma were identified. The same set of gene symbols was used to query the371 patients with liver cancer in the LIHC dataset to identify the frequency of m RNA over or under expression, as well as non-synonymous mutations, copy number variation and methylation level. Although all six genes trended to moresamples displaying over expression relative to under-expression, it was noted that a number of tumor samples had undergone amplification of the genes of the de novo synthesis pathway, GmDS(27 samples) and TSTA3(78 samples). The aim of this study was to the explore the nature of conflict and increase the understanding of the role of conflict as a non-technical skill, drawing on literature from organizational behaviour, leadership, patient safety and medical simulation. The review highlights the different conflict types in time critical settings, both emotional and constructive. It proposes that it may be possible to use this knowledge to enable team leaders and team members to be aware of “emotional” or “dysfunctional” conflict, and appreciate when it is about to escalate and consider strategies that could be useful in such a setting to defuse it. “Emotional conflict” is often exacerbated by stress and/or previous learned feelings of failure or helplessness. If individuals learn to recognise conflict does not have to be destructive and learn techniques such as reappraising a situation, active listening and good respectful communication with team members, the emotional climate in teams could be improved and useful discussion regarding patient care would ensue. Finally the study hopes to show how teams could make use of “constructive” conflict to improve team function, team member confidence and a flattening of hierarchies within the team.

Quiet in the nest:The nest environment attenuates song in a grassland songbird

The nest environment may limit the ability of nest-bound birds to hear sounds from the outside *** vocal learning species,such as humans and songbirds,it is vital for young animals to hear the voices of conspecific animals early in *** songbirds,nest structure varies considerably across species,and the resulting impact on sound transmission may have consequences for vocal learning in *** this study,we tested the hypothesis that the nest environment attenuates song of Savannah Sparrows(Passerculus sandwichensis),grassland songbirds that build nests on the ground under cover of dense *** recorded live Savannah Sparrows singing at variable distances from 21 *** recorded songs using one microphone inside the nest(the typical position of a nestling)and another placed 1 m directly above the nest(a typical position of an adult).We found a substantial reduction in signal-to-noise ratio,where songs recorded inside the nest were an average of 11 dB lower than songs recorded directly above the *** estimate that the attenuation imposed by the nest reduced the maximum acoustic environment from 117.7 m(for recordings above the nest),to 78.6 m(for recordings within the nest),which is analogous to listening from a position 39.1 m farther away from the *** research estimated that song transmits up to 100 m in this species,so any adult male within 100 m of a young bird was previously considered a potential vocal *** reducing the nestling acoustic environment from 100 m to 78.6 m,the number of male tutors available to nestlings is reduced by an average of 27%.Given the growing evidence that song learning begins very early in life,future research on vocal development should account for how the structural properties of the natal environment affect the songs that nestlings hear.

Objectives:While receptive art engagement is known to promote health and wellbeing,active art engagement has not been fully explored in health and nursing *** review is to describe the existing knowledge on art making and expressive art therapy in adult health and nursing care between 2010 and ***:Relevant studies and grey literature were searched and identified between march 17 and April 10,2020 from EBSCO,CINAHL,medline and ERIC databases and a general Internet *** data charting and extraction,the data(n=42 papers)were summarized and reported in accordance with PRISmA-ScR ***:In the included papers,both art making and expressive art therapy were seen in different health care and nursing contexts:yet not the home care *** emphasis of art activities were group activities for chronically or terminally ill residents,adults aged 65 years or older.A focus on personal narrative was often seen,which may explain why art activities appear to be linked to acknowledging and building new strengths and skills,making meaning of experiences,personal growth,symptom alleviation,and communication;all used to foster collaboration between patients,patients’near-ones and health care ***:Art activities appear to be suitable for every context and can promote personcenteredness and the measurement of nursing outcomes,and they should be considered an essential part of health and nursing care,nursing education and care for health care personnel.

Background:The vocalizations of birds are dynamic traits that often vary in output with time of day and time of *** quantifying patterns of diel and seasonal variation in vocal output,we can gain insight into the ecology and evolution of birds and the function of their *** this investigation,we quantified diel and seasonal variation in song output by studying a breeding population of Savannah Sparrows (Passerculus sandwichensis).methods:We used autonomous recorders to collect extensive recordings across the breeding season in a long-term, colour-marked study population of Savannah Sparrows in eastern *** described diel and seasonal variation across five different breeding stages based on recordings of more than 50,000 songs from 34 ***:During the pre-breeding stage, prior to female arrival, males sang a pronounced dawn chorus with a peak in song output during the early *** the breeding stage,in contrast,the dawn chorus was diminished and males instead exhibited a pronounced dusk chorus with a peak in song output during the *** the breeding season,the highest levels of song output occurred in late April and early may,soon after males arrived on the breeding grounds,and the lowest levels occurred in August,prior to the departure of birds for the wintering ***:These patterns suggest that Savannah Sparrows' early-season dawn choruses are directed at males and serve a territorial defense ***-season dusk choruses,in contrast, appear to play a role in attracting mates and possibly acoustic mate guarding.
