Broad-spectrum ginsentides are principal bioactives in unraveling the cure-all effects of ginseng

Stress and illness connection is complex and involves multiple physiological systems.Panax ginsengs,reputed for their broad-spectrum“cure-all”effect,are widely prescribed to treat stress and related illnesses.However,the identity of ginseng’s“cure-all”medicinal compounds that relieve stress remains unresolved.Here,we identify ginsentides as the principal bioactives that coordinate multiple systems to restore homeostasis in response to stress.Ginsentides are disulfide-rich,cell-penetrating and proteolytic-stable microproteins.Using affinity-enrichment mass spectrometry target identification together with in vitro,ex vivo and in vivo validations,we show that highly purified or synthetic ginsentides promote vasorelaxation by producing nitric oxide through endothelial cells via intracellular PI3K/Akt signaling pathway,alleviate a1-adrenergic receptor overactivity by reversing phenylephrine-induced constriction of aorta,decrease monocyte adhesion to endothelial cells via CD166/ESAM/CD40 and inhibit P2Y12 receptors to reduce platelet aggregation.Orally administered ginsentides were effective in animal models to reduce ADP-induced platelet aggregation,to prevent collagen and adrenalineinduced pulmonary thrombosis as well as anti-stress behavior of tail suspension and forced swimming tests in mice.Together,these results strongly suggest that ginsentides are the principal panacea compounds of ginsengs because of their ability to target multiple extra-and intra-cellular proteins to reverse stress-induced damages.

Digital Influencer's choice of product endorsement:A perspective of congruence

To infer product fitness information,consumers often consult digital influencers who exert effort to learn and evaluate product features and then propagate information to their followers.However,influencers'recommendations are not limited to products that exactly match their expertise,which may lead followers to unfollow them.This study investigates which product(high or low congruence)an influencer should endorse and how much endorsement effort should be exerted.Using a theoretical model,we obtain several interesting results.First,endorsing a low-congruence product can surprisingly benefit the influencer if the penalty per lost follower is moderate or if the influencer has sufficiently high efficiency in reducing the perception error of this product.Second,although the influencer has high expertise in the high-congruence product,she will lose more followers when endorsing it than when endorsing the low-congruence product if a particularly small or large proportion of her followers are potential consumers of the low-congruence product.Third,when the influencer endorses the low-congruence product,the number of new followers increases with the size of the influencer's follower base only when the follower base is small and a large proportion of followers are potential consumers of the low-congruence product.Interestingly,as the size of the follower base increases,the influencer always exerts more effort when endorsing the high-congruence product but will exert less effort in learning about the low-congruence product if a sufficiently small proportion of followers are potential consumers.Finally,after taking consumers'knowledge about product features into account,the main results still hold,and when considering the competition between influencers,we uncover the conditions under which both influencers will choose to endorse the high-congruence product.

空气质量生态补偿政策基于“保护者受益、污染者付费”思想和奖惩补偿机制,引导城市排放主体改善空气质量。当前关于该补偿政策影响绿色创新的机理研究刚刚起步。考虑到这一影响机制的复杂性和差异化,选择2006~2020年中国284个地级及以上城市为样本,借助分位数回归、中介效应和调节效应模型进行实证研究。结果显示:(1)绿色创新效率对生态补偿政策的弹性显著为正,且这一积极效应随绿色创新效率的上升而变大。除了产业结构和教育水平,外商直接投资、政府支出、经济增长和适度的环境规制均在一定程度上促进了绿色创新。(2)地区竞争在生态补偿政策促进绿色创新的过程中发挥了部分中介作用,但老龄化程度较高的地区其城市规模增长反而抑制了生态补偿对绿色创新的驱动效应。(3)技术进步在补偿驱动创新机制中存在“U”型调节作用,当前样本城市的技术进步调节效应位于“U”型左半部(负向调节),即随着技术水平的不断提高,生态补偿政策对绿色创新效率的正效应是递减的。研究结论为提升空气质量生态补偿政策调控效果、控制地区竞争和城市规模、优化绿色创新资源配置等提供了重要的经验证据。

近年来,电商平台自营商家与第三方商家经常选择独立促销或者联合促销增加产品销量.与独立促销不同,以“跨店满减”为代表的联合促销活动一般由平台发起,但平台企业制定的联合促销力度所产生的成本由自营商家和第三方商家共同承担.考虑双边市场环境下不同促销模式的特点,构建三阶段博弈模型探讨佣金率、促销引起的市场扩张效应等因素对产品定价决策、最优联合促销成本分摊比例以及促销模式选择的影响.结果表明:1)当且仅当平台的佣金率和联合促销成本分摊比例均较高或者较低时,联合促销情形下的产品原价和促销力度均高于其独立促销情形.当市场扩张效应较强时,消费者应该避免在促销活动期间购买产品.2)无论在垄断还是竞争情境下,当且仅当第三方卖家开展促销活动的成本较高,其市场扩张效应较弱且联合促销成本分摊比例适中时,平台企业和第三方卖家实施联合促销策略优于独立促销策略和非促销策略.3)在联合促销活动中,当佣金率较高时,第三方卖家将单独支付联合促销力度产生的成本;否则,联合促销成本由平台和第三方卖家共同承担,并且当佣金率较低时,平台支付的联合促销成本分摊比例随着市场扩张效应的增强而减小.

The Jahn-Teller(JT)effect involves the ions M with a degenerate electronic state distorting the corner-sharing MO_(6)octahedra to lift the degeneracy,inducing strong coupling of electrons to lattice,and mediating the exotic properties in perovskite oxides.Conversely,the anti-Jahn–Teller(AJT)effect refers to the deformation against the Jahn-Teller-distorted MO_(6)octahedra.However,it is difficult to experimentally execute both effects descending from the fine-tuning of crystal structures.We propose the AJT can be introduced by THz laser illumination at 11.71 THz in a candidate superconducting perovskite material BaBiO_(3)near room temperature.The illumination coherently drives the infrared-active phonon that excites the Raman breathing mode through the quadratic-linear nonlinear interaction.The process is characterized by the emergence of an AJT effect,accompanied by an insulator-to-metal transition occurring on the picosecond timescale.This study underlines the important role of crystal structure engineering by coherent phonon excitation in designing optoelectronic devices.

Optimal adoptions of freemium version and patching strategy:Network and security externalities

The freemium pricing model has become mainstream in the software industry.A large user base can induce positive network effects while expanding security risks associated with unpatched users.This study explores a two-stage decision problem faced by software vendors that involves a freemium versioning strategy and a subsequent security-patching strategy when taking both the positive network externality and negative security externality into consideration.It is noteworthy that a joint effect of the two externalities on the vendor’s management decisions exists.First,we analytically derive three patching strategies for the vendor:PS_(1)(rebates all users),PS_(2)(rebates only freeware users),and PS_(3)(rebates no users).Our results indicate that,if the strength of the positive network externality is relatively low,the optimal security-patching strategy will be significantly affected by the negative security externality.Specifically,when the intensity of the negative security externality is low,the vendor’s optimal patching strategy will be PS_(1).However,with the increase in the negative security externality,the optimal patching strategy changes to PS_(2) and then to PS_(3),whereas the strategy spaces of PS_(1) and PS_(2) decrease in the positive network externality to zero.Nevertheless,if the strength of the positive network externality is relatively high,the vendor is better off selecting PS_(1) when the negative security externality is low.However,when the negative security externality is high,PS_(3) is optimal.Furthermore,based on optimal patching strategies,we reveal the optimal conditions required for the vendor to adopt the freemium model compared with commercial only.Of interest,we find that the vendor adopting the freemium version is also influenced by the interaction of the two externalities.Finally,through numerical experiments,we find that the vendor and social planner’s interests can be aligned under certain conditions.However,this is not always the case.

A MALDI-MS sensing chip prepared by non-covalent assembly for quantitation of acid phosphatase

A novel sensing chip was designed for MALDI-MS quantitation of acid phosphatase(ACP).The ACP sensing chip was constructed through non-covalent interaction of streptavidin and biotin for the assembly of biotinylated peptide substrate on biotinylated polyethylene-glycol(PEG)modified indium-tin oxide(ITO)slide.In the presence of ACP,the peptide substrate was dephosphorylated under acidic condition to generate a new mass signal.The quantitative assay of ACP was achieved with the mass signal ratio of product to the sum of product and left peptide substrate.Under optimal detection conditions,the ratio was linearly correlated with the concentration of ACP in the range of 0.05–12 g/L with a detection limit(LOD)of 0.04 g/L.The designed ACP sensing chip has been used to analyze ACP in complex clinical samples,which exhibited high selectivity,good repeatability,and admirably anti-interference ability.This work further demonstrates the concept of MS sensing and the application of MALDI-MS in quantitative analysis,and provides a convenient method for the quantitation of proteases in clinical diagnosis.

Parishin C's prevention of Aβ_(1–42)-induced inhibition of long-term potentiation is related to NMDA receptors

The rhizome of Gastrodia elata(GE), a herb medicine, has been used for treatment of neuronal disorders in Eastern Asia for hundreds of years. Parishin C is a major ingredient of GE. In this study, the i.c.v. injection of soluble Aβ1–42oligomers model of LTP injury was used. We investigated the effects of parishin C on the improvement of LTP in soluble Aβ1–42oligomer–injected rats and the underlying electrophysiological mechanisms. Parishin C(i.p. or i.c.v.) significantly ameliorated LTP impairment induced by i.c.v. injection of soluble Aβ1–42oligomers. In cultured hippocampal neurons,soluble Aβ1–42oligomers significantly inhibited NMDAR currents while not affecting AMPAR currents and voltage-dependent currents. Pretreatment with parishin C protected NMDA receptor currents from the damage induced by Aβ. In summary, parishin C improved LTP deficits induced by soluble Aβ1–42oligomers. The protection by parishin C against Aβ-induced LTP damage might be related to NMDA receptors.

Characteristics of subsurface mesoscale eddies in the northwestern tropical Pacifi c Ocean from an eddy-resolving model

Subsurface eddies(SSEs)are common features of the ocean interior.They are particularly abundant in oceanic basins and the vicinity of major intermediate water outfl ows.They are responsible for subsurface transport of mass,heat,and salt.Analysis of high-resolution general circulation model data has revealed the existence of subsurface anticyclonic eddies(SSAEs)and subsurface cyclonic eddies(SSCEs)in the northwestern tropical Pacifi c Ocean.SSEs are abundant east of the Philippines(0°–22°N,120°E–140°E)and in latitude bands between 9°N–17°N east of 140°E.The composite structure of SSEs was investigated.SSEs had a core at about 400-m water depth and their maximum meridional velocity exceeded 10 cm/s.They exhibited two cores with diff erent salinity polarities in the surface and subsurface.Additionally,spatial distributions of heat transport induced by SSEs in the northwestern tropical Pacifi c were presented for the fi rst time.A net equatorward heat fl ux toward a temperature up-gradient was observed.The analysis of eddy-mean fl ow interactions revealed that the circulation is baroclinically and barotropically unstable at diff erent depths and to diff ering degrees.The energy conversions suggest that both barotropic and baroclinic instabilities are responsible for SSE generation east of the Philippines,whereas baroclinic instability caused by a horizontal density gradient and vertical eddy heat fl ux are important between 9°N and 17°N east of 140°E.Meridional movement of the north equatorial current and the north equatorial undercurrent can contribute to SSE generation in our study region.
