We present a study on the secondary x-rays of energy band 2-100 keV emitted by the intruded principal pollutant components （gases and minerals） brought up in the lower atmosphere by dust storms, monsoon drift and the gravitational pull on meteoritic showers. On the ground we employed a 1.5 × 1 inch^2 naI crystal in a scintillation detector, suitable for the energy range 2-100 keV of secondary x-rays, providing better energy resolution than a larger sized crystal. In order to eliminate the radioactive background of the Earth, the detector was well shielded on all sides with the help of the lead （Pb） container, except with *** open window at the top to permit only vertically incident secondary radiation. The results from the data analysis obtained during the monsoon over Udaipur city （India） during the period from July to September （2006） have revealed a linear correlation between dust storm cure monsoon clouds and observed luminosities of secondary x-ray radiation from intruded pollutants. We found intense flux of secondary x-rays from the intruded pollutants when heavy dust and monsoon clouds were brought up by dust storms and monsoon drift in the lower atmosphere over Udaipur city as compared to normal days. Thus, secondary x-rays in the environment provide a tool for investigation of local intrusive pollutant components in the lower atmosphere.

The dry sliding wear behavior of AA6061 matrix composite reinforced with aluminium nitride particles（Aln） produced by stir casting process was investigated. A regression model was developed to predict the wear rate of the prepared composite. A four-factor, five-level central composite rotatable design matrix was used to minimize the number of experimental runs. The factors considered in this study were sliding velocity, sliding distance, normal load and mass fraction of Aln reinforcement in the matrix. The developed regression model was validated by statistical software SYSTAT 12 and statistical tools such as analysis of variance（AnOVA） and student＇s t test. It was found that the developed regression model could be effectively used to predict the wear rate at 95% confidence level. The influence of these factors on wear rate of AA6061/Alnp composite was analyzed using the developed regression model and predicted trends were discussed with the aid of worn surface morphologies. The regression model indicated that the wear rate of cast AA6061/Alnp composite decreased with an increase in the mass fraction of Aln and increased with an increase of the sliding velocity, sliding distance and normal load acting on the composite specimen.

The treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) of colorectal origin with cytoreductive surgery(CRS) plus hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) has a 5-year recurrence-free or cure rate of at least 16%, so it is no longer labeled as a fatal disease, and offers prolonged survival for patients with a low peritoneal carcinomatosis index. Metachronous PC of colorectal origin is so predictable that there is a model which has been used to successfully determine the individual risk of each patient. Patients at risk are clearly identified; those with the highest risk have small peritoneal nodules present in the first surgery (70% probability of developing PC), ovarian metastases(60%), perforated tumor onset or intraoperative tumor rupture(50%). Current clinical, biological and imaging techniques still lack sufficient sensitivity to diagnose PC in its initial stages, when CRS plus HIPEC has a greater impact and a higher cure rate. Second-look surgery with HIPEC or prophylactic HIPEC at the time of the first intervention have been proposed as means of preventing and/or anticipating clinical or radiological relapse in at-risk patients. Both techniques have shown a significant decrease in peritoneal relapses and should be considered essential weapons in the management of colorectal cancer.

Background:The Identification of Functional Ankle Instability(IdFAI)is a valid and reliable tool to identify chronic ankle instability;however,it was developed in English,thus limiting its usage only to those who can read and write in *** objectives of our study were to(1)cross-culturally adapt a Chinese(Mandarin)version of the IdFAI and(2)determine the psychometric properties of the Chinese version ***:The cross-cultural adaptation procedures used by the investigators and translators followed previously published guidelines and included 6 stages:(1)initial translation,(2)synthesis of the translations,(3)back translation,(4)developing the pre-final version for field testing,(5)testing the pre-final version,and(6)finalizing the Chinese version of IdFAI(IdFAI-C).Five psychometric properties of the IdFAI-C were assessed from results of 2 participant groups:bilingual(n=20)and Chinese(n=625).Results:A high degree of agreement was found between the English version of IdFAI and IdFAI-C(intra-class correlation_(2,1)=0.995).An excellent internal consistency(Cronbach'sα=0.89),test—retest reliability(intra-class correlation_(2,1)=0.970),and construct validity(r(625)=0.67)was also found for the *** addition,the results of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis indicated that ankle instability was the only construct measured from the ***:The IdFAI-C is a highly reliable and valid self-report questionnaire that can be used to assess ankle ***,we suggest that it can be used to effectively and accurately assess chronic ankle instability in clinical settings for Chinese-speaking individuals.

Significant improvements in mechanical properties of AA5083 aluminum alloy using dual equal channel lateral extrusion

Dual equal channel lateral extrusion (DECLE), as a severe plastic deformation (SPD) process, was employed forimproving the mechanical properties of AA5083 aluminum alloy. Several experiments were conducted to study the influences of theroute type, namely A and B, and pass number on mechanical properties of the material. The process was conducted up to 6 passeswith decreasing process temperature, specifically from 573 to 473 K. Supplementary experiments involving metallography, hardnessand tensile tests were carried out in order to evaluate the effects of the process variables. The hardness measurements exhibitedreasonably uniform distributions within the product with a maximum increase of 64% via a 6-pass operation. The yield and ultimatestrengths also amended 107% and 46%, respectively. These significant improvements were attributed to the severe shear deformationof grains and decreasing pass temperature, which intensified the grain refinement. TEM images showed an average grain sizereduction from 100 μm for the annealed billet to 200 nm after 6 passes of DECLE. Finally, the experimental findings for routes A andB were compared and discussed and some important conclusions were drawn.
