Selective pressures have given rise to a number of SARS-CoV-2 variants during the prolonged course of the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently evolved variants differ from ancestors in additional glycosylation within the spike protein receptor-binding domain(RBD). Details of how the acquisition of glycosylation impacts viral fitness and human adaptation are not clearly understood. Here, we dissected the role of n354-linked glycosylation, acquired by BA.2.86 sub-lineages, as a RBD conformational control element in attenuating viral infectivity. The reduced infectivity is recovered in the presence of heparin sulfate, which targets the‘n354 pocket’ to ease restrictions of conformational transition resulting in a ‘RBD-up’ state, thereby conferring an adjustable infectivity. Furthermore, n354 glycosylation improved spike cleavage and cell–cell fusion, and in particular escaped one subset of ADCC antibodies. Together with reduced immunogenicity in hybrid immunity background, these indicate a single spike amino acid glycosylation event provides selective advantage in humans through multiple mechanisms.

In the present study, bond-coats for thermal barrier coatings were deposited via air plasma spraying（APS） techniques onto Inconel 800 and Hastelloy C-276 alloy substrates. Scanning electron microscopy（SEM）, transmission electron microscopy（TEM）, X-ray diffraction（XRD）, and atomic force microscopy（AFM） were used to investigate the phases and microstructure of the as-sprayed, APS-deposited Co ni Cr Al Y bond-coatings. The aim of this work was to study the suitability of the bond-coat materials for high temperature applications. Confirmation of nanoscale grains of the γ/γ′-phase was obtained by TEM, high-resolution TEM, and AFM. We concluded that these changes result from the plastic deformation of the bond-coat during the deposition, resulting in Co ni Cr Al Y bond-coatings with excellent thermal cyclic resistance suitable for use in high-temperature applications. Cyclic oxidative stability was observed to also depend on the underlying metallic alloy substrate.

We report a comparative study on photo-crystallization in a-Se95 Te5 and a-Se95In5 alloys. The photo-crystallization is achieved by a shining white line on the thin films of these alloys in vacuum for different exposure times. The results indicate that photo-crystallization is fast in a-Se95In5 alloy as compared to a-Se95 Te5 alloy. This is explained in terms of lower thermal stability of a-Se95In5 alloy as compared to a-Se95 Te5 alloy.

Objective:To determine the effects of textile dyeing industrial wastewater on the hematological parameters and reproductive health including histoarchitecture of male gonad(testes)of ***:Twenty-four Swiss albino mice at 4-weeks old were divided into four groups(n=6 per group).Mice of group 1 supplied with normal drinking water were served as the control *** of group 2,3 and 4 were supplied normal drinking water mixed with textile dyeing wastewater at 5%,10% and 20% concentration,*** completing 24 weeks of treatment,different hematological profile,weight of testes,gonadosomatic index(GSI),sperm concentration and morphology were ***,histopathological changes in testes were ***:Hematocrit value and hemoglobin concentrations were decreased in all groups of wastewater-treated mice compared to the control ***,weight of testes,GSI and sperm concentration were decreased significantly in wastewater-treated mice in comparison to the control *** percentage of morphologically healthy epididymal sperm was significantly reduced in wastewater-treated *** examination revealed degenerative changes in seminiferous tubules,a smaller number of spermatogenic cells,elongation of seminiferous tubules and degenerative changes of seminiferous tubules in wastewater-treated ***:Textile dyeing wastewater has harmful effects on hematological profile and reproductive health of male mice.

在303.0 K维持离子强度为0.16 mol.L-1,体积比为0.0～60.0%的1,4二氧六环-水混合体系中用pH滴定法研究了CoⅡ,niⅡ和CuⅢ离子与L-组氨酸和L-谷氨酸混合配体配合物的生成平衡。对不同的金属(M)与L-组氨酸(L)、L-谷氨酸(X)比(cM∶cL∶cX=1∶2.5∶2.5,1∶2.5∶5.0,1∶5.0∶2.5)的体系进行了碱量滴定。计算了三元配合物的稳定常数并用MInIQUAD75对各种模型进行了优化。根据统计数据和残差分析结果选取了最合适的化学模型。检测到的物种:对CoII而言为MLX2H2-和MLX23-,对niⅡ和CuⅡ而言为MLXH,MLX2H2-和MLX23-。就有关浓度和稳定性对三元物种与二元物种进行了比较。三元物种的额外稳定性可归因于电荷中和,鳌合效应,堆叠作用和氢键等。

Fuel properties and combustion characteristics of some promising bamboo species in India

We investigated the fuel characteristics of five important bamboo species viz., Dendrocalamus strictus, D. brandisii, D. stocksii, Bambusa bambos and B. balcooa. The selected species cover more than 85% of the total growing stock of bamboo in India. Basic density varied from 0.48 to 0.78 ***-3 among the bamboo species studied. Ash content, volatile matter content and fixed carbon content ranged between 1.4%-3.0%, 77.2%-80.8% and 17.6%-21.1%, respectively. Variation in calorific value （18.7-19.6 MJ-kg-l） was marginal. Fuel value index var- ied widely （586-2120） among bamboo species. The highest calorific value （19.6 ***＂l） and fuel value index （2120） were found in B. bal- cooa. Ash elemental analysis revealed that silica and potassium are the major ash forming minerals in bamboo biomass. Silica content ranged from 8.7% to 49.0%, while potassium ranged from 20.6% to 69.8%. We studied combustion characteristics under oxidizing atmosphere. Burning profiles of the samples were derived by applying the derivative thermo- gravimetric technique which is discussed in detail. The five bamboo species were different in their combustion behaviour, mainly due to differences in physical and chemical properties. We compare fuel prop- erties, ash elemental analysis and combustion characteristics of bamboo biomass with wood biomass of Eucalyptus hybrid （Eucalyptus tereticor- his × Eucalyptus camaldulensis）.

background and purpose Recent reports from our laboratory demonstrated the post-ischaemic expression profile of various matrix metalloproteinases(MMPs)in rats and the detrimental role of MMP-12 in post-stroke brain *** hypothesise that the post-stroke dysregulation of MMPs is similar across species and that genetic deletion of MMP-12 would not affect the post-stroke expression of other *** tested our hypothesis by determining the pre-ischaemic and post-ischaemic expression profile of MMPs in wild-type and MMP-12 knockout *** Focal cerebral ischaemia was induced in wildtype and MMP-12 knockout mice by middle cerebral artery occlusion procedure by insertion of a monofilament *** hour after ischaemia,reperfusion was initiated by removing the *** day after reperfusion,ischaemic brain tissues from various groups of mice were collected,and total RnA was isolated and subjected to cDnA synthesis followed by PCR *** Although the post-stroke expression profile of MMPs in the ischaemic brain of mice is different from rats,there is a clear species similarity in the expression of MMP-12,which was found to be predominantly upregulated in both ***,the post-stroke induction or inhibition of various MMPs in MMP-12 knockout mice is different from their respective expression profile in wild-type ***,the brain mRnA expression profile of various MMPs in MMP-12 knockout mice under normal conditions is also different to their expression in wild-type *** In the ischaemic brain,MMP-12 upregulates several fold higher than any other *** derived with the genetic deletion of MMP-12 are constitutive and have altered MMP expression profile both under normal and ischaemic conditions.
