Investigation on the key aspects of l-arginine para nitrobenzoate monohydrate single crystal:A non-linear optical material

In the contemporary days, non-linear optical materials(nLO) are getting higher attention as per the increasing demand in optical communication and data storage technology. Consequently, they explore various physical properties of the nLO material for their industrial applications. In current report, l-arginine p-nitrobenzoate monohydrate(LAnB) single crystals were obtained by adopting slow cooling technique. The structural confirmation of grown single crystal was carried out using single crystal X-Ray diffractometer. Presence of strain within single crystal was deduced using Hall–Williamson relation. Various defects associated within single crystal were assessed using high resolution XRD. Additionally, its crystalline quality was again confirmed by time resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy(TRPL). Using transmission spectra, the cut off wavelength and band gap of the host material was determined to be nearly 420 nm and 2.9 e V respectively. The dielectric property has been recorded by varying the frequency ranging from 50 Hz to 100 k Hz. The curve suggests that dielectric loss value is less at high frequency ensures the suitability of crystal in photonics and nLO based *** laser damage threshold values were also measured for single and multiple shots. Thermal parameters of the titled compound were calculated using PPE. In photoconductivity measurement, negative photoconductivity has been observed in titled compound. Microhardness studies were also performed on single crystal to explore its mechanical properties.

Increased plasma malondialdehyde and fructosamine in anemic H pylori infected patients:Effect of treatment

AIM： TO unravel the possible association of malondialdehyde （MDA） and fructosamine in anemic H pylori infected patients and to observe the alteration in MDA and fructosamine levels in these patients after treatment for one month. METHODS： Fructosamine, MDA and glucose were estimated in 22 anemic H pylori infected patients and 16 healthy controls. Hematological parameters were also evaluated in both the groups using Sysmex-K-100 automated cell counter. The H pylori infected patients were randomly divided into two groups. Hpylori infected patients in Group Ⅰ received both iron supplementation and anti-H pylori therapy, while patients in Group Ⅱ received only iron supplementation. All the biochemical and hematological parameters were estimated after one month of treatment. RESULTS： In anemic H pylori infected patients, while MDA （5.41 ± 2.16 vs 2.26 ± 0.50; P 〈 0.05） and fructosamine （2.64 ± 0.93 vs 1.60 ± 0.35; P 〈 0.05） were significantly increased, iron （32.72 ± 14.93 vs 110.25 ± 26.58; P 〈 0.05）, hemoglobin （6.9 ± 2.6 vs 12.66 ± 0.74; P 〈 0.05） and ferritin （28.82 ± 16.27 vs 140.43 ± 30.72; P 〈 0.05） levels were significantly decreased compared with the controls. With partial correlation analysis, fructosamine was found to have a significant positive correlation with MDA. In Group I, while MDA level decreased significantly （3.11 ± 1.73 vs 5.50 ± 2.46; P 〈 0.05）, there was a significant increase in iron （84.09 ± 29.51 vs 36.09 ± 17.81; P 〈 0.05）, hemoglobin （10.40 ± 1.11 vs 7.42 ± 1.90; P 〈 0.05） and ferritin （116.91 ± 63.34 vs 30.46 ± 17.81; P 〈 0.05） levels after one month. There was no significant change in the levels of fructosamine in group Ⅰ after treatment. Similarly, no significant alterations were noted in the levels of IDA, fructosamine, hemoglobin or ferritin in Group Ⅱ patients after one month of treatment. Carbon Footprint Analyses of Wastewater Treatment Systems in Puducherry

Carbon footprint analysis is a method to quantify the life cycle Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) emissions and identify the measure to reduce climate change impacts. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has identified that the global warming and climate change which is one of the most important issues in the domain of environment are caused by the excessive emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) mainly constituting Carbon dioxide (CO2), Methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (n2O). The municipal wastewater treatment plant receives wastewater for treatment and finally discharges the treated effluent. The emissions of GHG during the treatment of wastewater as well as during the treatment process of sludge and also for energy generation are known to be on-site GHG emissions. Off-site GHG emissions are generated due to transportation and disposal of sludge, off-site energy and chemical production. In Puducherry, the municipal wastewater is being treated using oxidation ponds, Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) and Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR). Wastewater treatment using Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) technology is one of the state-of-the art wastewater management systems. In this technology equalization, biological treatment and secondary clarification are performed in a single reactor in a time control sequence. The emissions of GHG from the Oxidation ponds of 12.5 MLD, UASB reactor of 2.5 MLD and SBR of 17 MLD were assessed based on the IPCC guidelines and the total emissions of GHG in terms of equivalent of CO2 were compared. The performance of the SBR is more efficient and the emissions of GHG are less than the emissions in the UASB as well as in oxidation ponds. The emission of GHG in SBR is about 60% of the existing treatment systems of oxidation ponds and UASB thus a reduction of 40% GHG emission could be achieved.

nephrotic syndrome is one of the most common childhood kidney diseases. It is mostly found in the age group of 2 to 8 years. Around 10%-15% of nephrotic syndrome cases are non-responders of steroid treatment(SRnS).Angiotensin converting enzyme(ACE)(I/D) gene association studies are important for detecting kidney disease and herein we assessed the association of ACE(I/D) polymorphism with nephrotic syndrome in South Indian children. We recruited 260 nephrotic syndrome(162 boys and 98 girls) and 218(140 boys and 78 girls) control subjects. ACE I/D polymorphism was analyzed by PCR using genotype allele specific primers. In ACE(I/D), we did not find significant association for the ungrouped data of nephrotic syndrome children and the control subjects. Kidney biopsies were done in 86 nephrotic syndrome cases(minimal change disease, n = 51;focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, n = 27;diffuse mesangial proliferation, n = 8). We segregated them into the minimal change disease/focal segmental glomerulosclerosis groups and observed that the ACE’D’ allele was identified with borderline significance in cases of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and the ’Ⅰ’ allele was assessed as having very weak association in cases of minimal change disease. ’Ⅱ’ genotype was weakly associated with minimal change disease. Gender specific analysis revealed weak association of’ID’ genotype with female nephrotic syndrome in females. Dominant expression of DD genotype was observed in males with nephrotic syndrome. Our finding indicated that ACE(I/D) has moderate association with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. However, due to the limited number of biopsy proven focal segmental glomerulosclerosis subjects enrolled, further studies are required to confirm these results.

＜正＞ A randomized, double blind, placebo controlled, multicentric clinical study was conducted to evaluate the possible protective effects of LL-2123 HP, a poly-herbal preparation, against anti-TB drug induced hepatotoxicity in patients of pulmonary TB. Clinically diagnosed pulmonary TB patients （n = 103） were randomly divided into two groups and given placebo or LL-2123 HP（test drug）, a-longwith anti-TB therapy for 8 weeks, and were followed up at regular intervals for qualitative and quantitative measures of liver function. Analysis of data of 95 completed patients showed that there was a significant increase in body weight （49% ） in the test drug group as compared to placebo （42% ）. Further, the anti-TB chemotherapy induced elevations in liver function markers in test and placebo groups were: SGOT（30% vs 85% ）, SGPT（28% vs 90% ） and GGTP（25% vs50 % ） in the 8 week follow ups. Adverse effect profile of the test drug group was less severe as compared to that of placebo. The results indicate that LL -2123 HP was more efficacious and better tolerated than the placebo when used a-gainst anti-TB chemotherapy.

ng>Background:ng> COVID-19 is an ongoing global pandemic with paucity of the understanding of the natural history of the disease and how it affects smokers. We aim to study the outcomes of COVID-19 in smokers in this descriptive review. Coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2, gains entry to bronchial epithelial cells by attachment of the viral spike protein to Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme-2 (ACE-2) receptors. Accordingly, this review aims to understand the associated risk and worsen disease in relation to smoking and explore conflicting information regarding nicotine as well as its potential protective role. ng>Methods:ng> We conducted a non-systematic review of databases with search engines such as, PubMed, Google Scholar with keywords like “COVID-19,” “SARS-CoV-2,” “novel coronavirus,” smoking,” “smokers,” “nicotine.” It included English articles related to the epidemiology of COVID-19 in adult smokers, containing systematic reviews, meta-analysis, prospective and retrospective cohort studies, cross-sectional studies, case series, and case reports based on the relevance of titles and abstracts to the topic. ng>Results: ng>A total of 33 articles were reviewed. Smokers were 1.4 times more likely to have severe COVID-19 (RR = 1.4, 95% CI: 0.98 - 2.00), and 2.4 times more likely to require an ICU admission (RR = 2.4, CI: 1.43 - 4.04) when compared to non-smokers (n = 926). Current smokers were less likely to experience an adverse outcome (OR: 0.42, 95% CI: 0.24 - 0.74), compared to former smokers. 22% of current smokers and 46% of former smokers had more severe complications compared to non-smokers with COVID-19 infection. Current smokers had a case fatality rate of 38.5% (n = 1790). They had higher odds of mortality compared to non-smokers (OR = 1.25), especially males > 65 years age (OR = 2.51). Inhaled hypertonic saline for cystic fibrosis: Reviewing the potential evidence for modulation of neutrophil signalling and function

Cystic fibrosis(CF) is a multisystem disorder with significantly shortened life expectancy. The major cause of mortality and morbidity is lung disease with increasing pulmonary exacerbations and decline in lung function predicting significantly poorer outcomes. The pathogenesis of lung disease in CF is characterised in part by decreased airway surface liquid volume and subsequent failure of normal mucociliary clearance. This leads to accumulation of viscous mucus in the CF airway, providing an ideal environment for bacterial pathogens to grow and colonise, propagating airway inflammation in CF. The use of nebulised hypertonic saline(HTS) treatments has been shown to improve mucus clearance in CF and impact positively upon exacerbations, quality of life, and lung function. Several mechanisms of HTS likely improve outcome, resulting in clinically relevant enhancement in disease parameters related to increase in mucociliary clearance. There is increasing evidence to suggest that HTS is also beneficial through its anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to reduce bacterial activity and biofilm formation. This review will first describe the use of HTS in treatment of CF focusing on its efficacy and tolerability. The emphasis will then change to the potential benefits of aerosolized HTS for the attenuation of receptor mediated neutrophil functions, including down-regulation of oxidative burst activity, adhesion molecule expression, and the suppression of neutrophil degranulation of proteolytic enzymes.

n-methylurea doped benzimidazole single crystals were grown by vertical Bridgman technique (VBT) for the first time. The grown crystals were subjected to powder X-ray diffraction analysis for the confirmation of crystal system and lattice parameter. The transmission spectrums were recorded for both crystals and found that the doped crystal has more transparency than the pure. The photoluminescence study was carried out by using PL spectrophotometer and mechanical strength has been analyzed by Vicker"s hardness tester. The laser damage threshold results and relative second harmonic generation efficiency studies reveals doped sample is showing better performance for nonlinear optical applications. Thermal studies clearly indicate about the stability of pure and doped samples at higher temperature regions.
