s-adenosyl-methionine decreases ethanol-induced apoptosis in primary hepatocyte cultures by a c-Jun n-terminal kinase activity-independent mechanism

AIM： To determine the role of c-Jun n-terminal kinase （JnK） activity in ethanol-induced apoptosis and the modulation of this signaling cascade by s-Adenosylmethionine （AdoMet）. METHODs： Primary hepatocyte cultures were pretreated with 100 IJmol/L sP600125, a selective JnK inhibitor, 1 mL/L DMsO or 4 mmol/L AdoMet and then exposed to 100 mmo/L ethanol. Hepatocyte apoptosis was determined by the TUnEL and DnA ladder assays. JnK activity and its inhibition by sP600125 and AdoMet were determined by Western blot analysis of c-jun phosphorylation and Bid fragmentation. sP600125 and AdoMet effects on the apoptotic signaling pathway were determined by Western blot analysis of cytochrome c release and pro-caspase 3 fragmentation. The AdoMet effect on glutathione levels was measured by EIIman＇s method and reactive oxygen species （ROs） generation by cell cytometry. REsULTs： The exposure of hepatocytes to ethanol induced JnK activation, c-jun phosphorylation, Bid fragmentation, cytochrome c release and pro-caspase 3 cleavage; these effects were diminished by sP600125, and caused a significant decrease in ethanol-induced apoptosis （P〈 0.05）. AdoMet exerted an antioxidant effect maintaining glutathione levels and decreasing ROs generation, without a significant effect on JnK activity, and prevented cytochrome c release and pro-caspase 3 cleavage.COnCLUsIOn： The JnK signaling cascade is a key component of the proapoptotic signaling pathway induced by ethanol. JnK activation may be independent from ROs generation, since AdoMet which exerted antioxidant properties did not have a significant effect on JnK activity. JnK pathway modulator agents and AdoMet may be components of promising therapies for alcoholic liver disease （ALD） treatment.

电凝聚是一种有效地处理制浆造纸工业废水的技术。对于处理制浆造纸工业废水的一些影响因素如电解时间、应用的电流密度、电解pH值及有利于提高电解效率的因素一直都研究着。从现在的实验结果可以看到,使用电凝聚处理废水的效果非常显著。有记录显示的低碳钢电极和铝电极最大的脱色率分别达到92%和84%,COD去除率分别为95%和89%。实验也指出用序列间歇反应器[sequential Batch Reactor(sBR)]与电凝聚联合能增加生物降解能力,从而提高生物化学处理效率。电凝聚是用吸附等温线形式模拟,实验发现与朗缪尔(Langmuir)和雷德克-普劳斯尼茨(Radke-Prausnitz)预测的等温线模型完全匹配。

numerical Examination of the Effects of Ion Thermal Flow on Plasma sheath Characteristics

The effects of ion thermal flow on the electric and hydrodynamic characteristics of a plasma sheath are examined using a multi-fluid *** comparison with cold plasma,ion pressure is modeled by a power law dependence on the ion density in warm *** pressure force on the ion depends on the ion density,ion temperature,and a nearly constant parameter called the ion polytropic *** well-known quantities for this coefficient,γi=1 and 3,are considered,corresponding to isothermal and adiabatic flows,*** numerical calculations show that increasing the ion temperature decreases the sheath thickness and increases the ion impact energy and ion saturation current at the *** ion polytropic coefficient has the same effect as the ion temperature and intensifies the ion temperature effects.

studies on the Effects of Tolnidamine on Reproductive Functions in Langur Monkey

Tolnidamine (50 mg / kg body wt. / alternate day for 90 days; oral) was investigated for its contraceptive efficacy, causes of irreversibility, and side-effects by assessment of seminal characteristics and biochemistry, morphometry, libido and clinical investigations in adult male langur monkeys ( Presbytis entellus entellus Dufresne) . semen weight, volume, colour, pH and libido remained unaltered. sperm motility, vitality and morphology were impaired with the advancement of the treatment. Increased number of immature germ cells was also noted. sperm density reduced to severe oligospermia following 45 days of treatment and remained low during recovery period. A marked reversible reduction in seminal GPC and magnesium levels was notieed, while other biachemical parameters remained unchanged. Irreversible changes in various morphometric data of sertoli cells and spermatogonia were observed. Circulatory levels of testosterone fluctuated within pretreatment range. A significant but reversible elevation in serum creatinine was evident. The possible causes for irreversibility are the ever lasting alterations in the morphometry of sertoli ceils and spermatogonia.

The isolation of the first two-dimensional material, graphene-a monolayer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice-opened new exciting opportunities in the field of condensed matter physics and materials. Its isolation and subsequent studies demonstrated that it was possible to obtain sheets of atomically thin crystals and that these were stable, and they also began to show its outstanding properties, thus opening the door to a whole new family of materials, known as two-dimensional materials or 2D materials. The great interest in different 2D materials is motivated by the variety of properties they show, being candidates for numerous ***, the combination of 2D crystals allows the assembly of composite, on-demand materials, known as van der Waals heterostructures, which take advantage of the properties of those materials to create functionalities that otherwise would not be accessible. For example, the combination of 2D materials, which can be done with high precision, is opening up opportunities for the study of new challenges in fundamental physics and novel applications. Here we review the latest fundamental discoveries in the area of 2D materials and offer a perspective on the future of the field.

The title compound n-4-methyl-1,2,3-thiadiazole-5-carbonyl-n＇-3,5-dichloro-4- （1,1,2,2- tetrafluoroethoxyl）phenyl urea （C13H8Cl2F4n4O3s, Mr = 447.19） has been synthesized from 4-methyl- 1,2,3-thiadiazole-5-carbonyl chloride as the starting material, and its structure was characterized by proton nuclear Magnetic Resonance （1H nMR）, Infra Red spectroscopy （IR）, high-resolution mass spectroscopy （HRMs）, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal of the title compound belongs to triclinic, space group Pi with a = 6.0780（8）, b = 11.3760（14）, c = 12.1440（18） A, α = 96.887（7）, β = 91.027（12）, γ= 104.252（13）°, Z = 2, V= 806.98（19）A3, Dc = 1.840 g/cm3, μ= 0.601 mm-1, F（000） = 448, R = 0.0450 and wR = 0.0869. X-ray analysis indicates that the 1,2,3-thiadiazole ring is not coplanar with the phenyl ring, and the dihedral angle is 33.57°. Two intermolecular hydrogen bonds n（2）-H…O（1 ）, s（1 ）…H-C（11）, and three weak intermolecular interactions, C（11）…O（1）, n（1）…O（2） and s…O（1）, are observed. The bioassay results indicate that the title compound has good insecticidal activity against Culex pipiens pallens and good induction activity for tobacco against tobacco mosaic virus which is equal to that of TDL.

The Effects of n-3 Fatty Acids and Bexarotene on Breast Cancer Cell Progression

Breast cancer cell growth can be inhibited in vivo by retinoid X receptor (RXR) specific retinoids. In both animal and cell culture studies, omega-3 fatty acids share growth regulatory effects similar to those of RXR specific retinoids (rexinoids). One synthetic rexinoid, bexarotene (LCD 1069, Targretin), is used clinically to treat cancer patients. Of concern is that some patients are unable to tolerate high doses of such treatment drugs. We hypothesized that n-3 fatty acids and bexarotene may work synergistically to slow breast cancer cell growth. To test our hypothesis, we used MCF-7 human mammary carcinoma cells and an in vitro cell culture model. We investigated the relationship between the omega-3 fatty acids docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) alone and in conjunction with bexarotene in slowing MCF-7 cell growth. Following a 72 hr incubation with the respective treatments, bexarotene enhanced cell growth (p showed a strong growth inhibitory effect which was not enhanced by the addition of bexarotene (p ne was not effective in altering cell growth (p nterestingly, when combined with bexarotene, EPA was more effective at slowing cell growth than when cells received EPA alone. Thus, select omega-3 fatty acids alone are more effective than bexarotene in slowing MCF-7 cell progression. However, the use of the RXR-selective retinoids may enhance the growth regulatory mechanisms of the fatty acid EPA.
