Predicting effects of tunnel throttling of annular freeway vehicular flow by a continuum model

Fluid flow throttling is common in industrial and building services *** tunnel throttling of vehicular flow is caused by the abrupt number reduction of roadway lane,as the tunnel has a lower lane number than in the roadway normal *** predict the effects of tunnel throttling of annular freeway vehicular flow,a three-lane continuum model is ***Ⅲof the tunnel is completely blocked due to the need of tunnel rehabilitation,*** exists mandatory net lane-changing rate from laneⅢto laneⅡjust upstream of the tunnel entrance,which is described by a model of random number generated through a golden section *** net-changing rate between adjacent lanes is modeled using a lane-changing time expressed explicitly in algebraic *** paper assumes that the annular freeway has a total length of 100 km,a two-lane tunnel of length 2 km with a speed limit of 80 km/*** free flow speeds on lanesⅠ,ⅡandⅢare assumed to be 110,100 and 90 km/h *** on the three-lane continuum model,numerical simulations of vehicular flows on the annular freeway with such a tunnel are conducted with a reliable numerical method of 3rd-order *** results reveal that the vehicular flow has a smaller threshold of traffic jam formation in comparison with the case without tunnel *** fuel consumption can be estimated by interpolation with time averaged grid traffic speed and an assumed curve of vehicle *** vehicle fuel consumption is lane number dependent,distributes with initial density concavely,ranging from 5.56 to 8.00 *** throttling leads to an earlier traffic jam formation in comparison with the case without tunnel throttling.

Travel time prediction with viscoelastic traffic model

Travel time through a ring road with a total length of 80 km has been predicted by a viscoelastic traffic model(VEM), which is developed in analogous to the non-newtonian fluid flow. The VEM expresses a traffic pressure for the unfree flow case by space headway, ensuring that the pressure can be determined by the assumption that the relevant second critical sound speed is exactly equal to the disturbance propagation speed determined by the free flow speed and the braking distance measured by the average vehicular length. The VEM assumes that the sound speed for the free flow case depends on the traffic density in some specific aspects, which ensures that it is exactly identical to the free flow speed on an empty road. To make a comparison, the open navier-Stokes type model developed by Zhang(ZHAnG, H. M. Driver memory, traffic viscosity and a viscous vehicular traffic flow model. Transp. Res. Part B, 37, 27–41(2003)) is adopted to predict the travel time through the ring road for providing the counterpart *** the traffic free flow speed is 80 km/h, the braking distance is supposed to be 45 m,with the jam density uniquely determined by the average length of vehicles l ≈ 5.8 m. To avoid possible singular points in travel time prediction, a distinguishing period for time averaging is pre-assigned to be 7.5 minutes. It is found that the travel time increases monotonically with the initial traffic density on the ring road. Without ramp effects, for the ring road with the initial density less than the second critical density, the travel time can be simply predicted by using the equilibrium speed. However, this simpler approach is unavailable for scenarios over the second critical.

The study of impacts of down-up hill road segment on the density threshold of traffic shock formation in ring road vehicular flow is helpful to the deep understanding of sags’bottleneck *** are freeway segments along which the gradient increases gradually in the traffic *** main aim of this paper is to seek the density threshold of shock formation of vehicular flow in ring road with down-up hill segment,because down-up hill roadway segment is a source to cause capacity reduction that is an attractive topic in vehicular traffic *** seek the density threshold numerically,a viscoelastic continuum model[1]is extended and *** solve the model equations,a fifth-order weighted essentially non-oscillatory scheme for spatial discretization,and a 3rd order Runge-Kutta scheme for time partial derivative term are *** by existing observation data and the navier-Stokes like model[2]extended as EZM is done before conducting extensive numerical *** ring road vehicular flow with three separated down-up hill segments,it is found that the density threshold of shock formation decreases monotonically with the relative difference of free flow speed,this variation can be simply fitted by a third order polynomial.

To explore tunnel effects on ring road traffic flow,a macroscopic urgent-gentle class traffic model is put *** model identifies vehicles with urgent and gentle classes,chooses the tunnel speed limit as free flow speed to express the fundamental diagram in the tunnel,and adopts algebraic expressions to describe traffic pressure and sound *** two speed trajectories at the Kobotoke tunnel in Japan,the model is validated,with good agreement with observed *** results indicate that in the case of having no ramp effects,tunnel mean travel time is almost constant dependent on tunnel *** initial density normalized by jam density is above a threshold of about 0.21,a traffic shock wave originates at the tunnel entrance and propagates *** a threshold drops slightly as a result of on-ramp merging effect,the mean travel time drops as off-ramp diversion effect intensifies *** findings deepen the understanding of tunnel effects on traffic flow in reality.

The present paper continues the topic of our recent paper in the same journal,aiming to show the role of structural stability in financial *** the context of financial market modeling,structural stability means that a specific“no-arbitrage”property is unaffected by small(with respect to the Pompeiu–Hausdorff metric)perturbations of the model’s *** formulate,based on our economic interpretation,a new requirement concerning“no arbitrage”properties,which we call the“uncertainty principle”.This principle in the case of no-trading constraints is equivalent to structural *** demonstrate that structural stability is essential for a correct model approximation(which is used in our numerical method for superhedging price computation).We also show that structural stability is important for the continuity of superhedging prices and discuss the sufficient conditions for this continuity.

Ion-conducting Membranes Based on Bacterial Cellulose nanofibers Modified by Poly(sodium acrylate-co-2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid)

Green method for preparation of ion-conducting membranes(ICM) based on bacterial cellulose nanofibers(CnF) modified by a copolymer of sodium acrylate and 2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonic acid was elaborated. FTIR and nMR data confirmed grafting of polyacrylate onto cellulose surface. Formation of porous structure of the ICM was controlled by SEM and AFM. The maximal ionic conductivity of the membranes reaches 1.5 and 3.1 mS·cm^(-1)(60 ℃ and 98% relative humidity) when they are saturated with water or H_2SO_4(1 mol·L^(-1)) electrolyte,respectively. Prepared ICM was tested as a separator in a symmetrical supercapacitor with electrodes based on polyaniline hydrogel. The assembled cell demonstrate ability to operate at high current density up to 100 A·g^(-1) maintaining specific capacitance 165 F·g^(-1). Maximal specific capacitance of 289 F·g^(-1) was achieved at current density 1 A·g^(-1). Retaining of 90% of initial capacitance after 10000 of charge-discharge cycles proves high electrochemical stability of prepared ICM.

Self-healable and Robust Film Based on Electroactive Polymer Brush as Electrode for Flexible Supercapacitor

The aim of this study was to develop self-healable and robust elect roconductive film based on polyaniline copolymer for application as electrode in flexible *** this purpose,the electroconductive polymer brushes(EPB)was *** synthesis of EPB is based on graft polymerizations of acrylamide(AAm)on poly(vinyl alcohol)(PVA)with formation of PVA-PAAm polymer brush and subsequent graft copolymerization of aniline and p-phenylenediamine on PVA-PAAm resulting in formation of EPB with electroconducting copoly(aniline-co-pphenylenediamine)(PAPh DA).It was found that the ratio between PVA and PAAm at the first stage greatly influence the electrochemical performance of the *** films were prepared by casting of EPB solution with subsequent *** of electrical current distribution through the film with AFM reveal more uniform distribution of PAPhDA in EPB in comparison with reference PVA-PAPhDA and PAAm-PAPhDA *** was demonstrated that mechanical cha racteristics and electrical conductivity values of films restore at large extent after curring and self-healing under optimal relative humidity level(58%).The flexile supercapacitor cell with EPB film electrodes demon strate specific capacitance 602 mF·cm^(-2)at the current density of 1 mA·cm^(-2)and retention 94%of initial capacitance after 5000 charge/discharge cycles.

Calix[n]arenes was utilized to detect PABA,the primary sunscreen *** study investigates the interaction of calix[4]arene(C4),calix[6]arene(C6),and PABA using the Langmuir method and first-principle density functional theory(DFT).Using the Langmuir-Schaefer(LS)technique,an ultrathin film composed of calix[n]arenes and their complexes with PABA was deposited on various *** on the Langmuir study,the PABA molecule was bonded to the lower rims of both C4 and C6 with the host-guest ratio of 1:*** of the LS films formed were then characterized by ultravioletvisible spectroscopy(UV-Vis),Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)and carbon,hydrogen,nitrogen,sulfur elemental analyzer(CHnS).The band gap reduction obtained in the DFT study denotes the charge transfer interaction with promising reactivity between the calix[n]arenes and *** sensing of PABA by C4 and C6 is successful based on the formation of bonding between them due to the hosts’effective trapping *** outcomes of this study could be applied to drug delivery systems for future pharmaceutical and medical applications.
