Evaluation of children and adults with post-COVID-19 persistent smell,taste and trigeminal chemosensory disorders:A hospital based study

BACKGROUnD Smell disorders are the most frequent persistent coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)*** To describe the patterns and characteristics of persistent smell and taste disorders in Egyptian *** Assessment was done to 185 patients(adults=150,age:31.41±8.63 years;children=35;age:15.66±1.63 years).Otolaryngology and neuropsychiatric evaluations were *** included:A clinical questionnaire(for smell and taste);sniffin'odor,taste and flavor identification tests and the Questionnaire of Olfactory Disorders-negative Statements(sQOD-nS).RESULTS Duration of disorders was 11.53±3.97 ms(6-24 ms).Parosmia(n=119;64.32%)was developed months after anosmia(3.05±1.87 ms).Objective testing showed anosmia in all,ageusia and flavor loss in 20%(n=37)and loss of nasal and oral trigeminal sensations in 18%(n=33)and 20%(n=37),*** had low scoring of sQOD-nS(11.41±3.66).There were no specific differences in other demographics and clinical variables which could distinguish post-COVID-19 smell and taste disorders in children from *** The course of small and taste disorders are supportive of the nasal and oral neuronal ***-COVID-19 taste and trigeminal disorders were less frequent compared to smell ***-COVID-19 flavor disorders were solely dependent on taste and not smell *** were no demographics,clinical variables at onset or specific profile of these disorders in children compared to adults.

Hearing Assessment among Sudanese Rheumatoid Arthritis Patients versus non-Rheumatoid Arthritis Individuals

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) disease is one of the most common chronic autoimmune diseases that affect many body systems including the auditory system. Objectives: To assess hearing thresholds and to ascertain types of hearing loss among Sudanese rheumatoid arthritis patients attending rheumatology clinic in Omdurman military hospital and matching them with non-rheumatoid arthritis subjects. Methodology: This descriptive and analytic (comparative) hospital based cross sectional study conducted from October 2020 to April 2021 which include 66 RA patients with age range (21 - 60 years) matched with 41 non-rheumatoid arthritis group sharing same characteristics (nation, gender and age). Pure tone audiometry, tympanometry and acoustic reflexes were done for all RA patients and matched groups. Statistical analysis of the data was carried out using the association and correlation tests for associations and t-test for independent samples. Results: Thirty-six (54.5%) of RA patients had hearing impairment versus 9 (22%) non-RA in PTA test. Twenty-four RA cases (36.3%) showed asymmetrical hearing threshold and graph in PTA between right and left ears. Thirty-four (51.5%) right and 36 (54.5%) left ears were normal degree followed by 23 (34.8%) in the right and 24 (36.4%) in the left ears were mild degree hearing loss. Among hearing impaired RA patients;20 right ears (62.5%) and 19 left ears (65.5%) had sensorineural hearing loss (SnHL), conductive hearing loss 11 (34.4%) right ears and 9 (31%) left ears. Mixed HL was in 1 right ear (3.1%) and 1 left ear (3.5%). The most common degree of SnHL type was mild in (75%) and (78.9%) in right and left ears respectively, moderate and moderate severe were (20%) in the right and (15.7%) in the left ears. Fifty-eight right ears (87.9%) and 56 left ears (84.8%) had type A tympanogram while 7 (10.6%) right ears and 9 left ears (13.6%) were type As tympanogram, one right and one left ears had type Ad tympanogram. Chickpea yield is decreasing day by day due to drought stress,which could be an immense risk for future food security in developing *** practices could be the most excellent approach to diminish loss due to this abiotic *** current research work was designed to explore the tolerance reaction of chickpea genotypes against management practices,through morphological and biochemical parameters and evaluate yield performance across drought prone location of *** genotypes BD-6048,BD-6045,BD-6090,BD-6092 and eight management practices,e.g.,severe water stress(SWS),i.e.,without irrigation,10 cm thick mulching with rice straw(MRS),10 cm thick mulching with water hyacinth(MWH),organic amendment through compost(OAC)@3 t ha−1,organic amendment through cow dung@5 t ha−1(OACD),organic amendment through poultry manure@2 t ha−1(OAPM),inorganic amendment through proline application(IAPA)as foliar spray and 16 h hydro-priming(HP).The study revealed that the genotypes BD-6048 showed excellent performance because of the highest chlorophyll,carotenoids,phosphorus,potassium,proline and protein *** highest pod number plant−1 also increased seed yield in *** management practices,IAPA increased relative water content,carotenoids,leaf phosphorus and potassium compared to other management practices and severe water ***,BD-6084 was selected as best genotype because of a significant increase in chlorophyll a and b,carotenoids,and relative water content with *** top performing genotypes can be used for releasing variety and cultivated for sustainable production in drought prone area of Bangladesh.

The genus Assilina is a taxon within the nummulitacea that appeared early in the Ypresian(Early Eocene)and continued until the end of the Lutetian(Middle Eocene).Thus,this taxon could be useful for the chronostratigraphy of this time *** Eocene rocks in southern Galala,Egypt are exposed at Bir *** section includes marl sediments with debris flow shallow-marine facies deposits laid down during early Eocene times and includes fossils of large foraminifera:Assilina placentula Deshayes,1838 and nummulites burdigalensis de la Harpe,*** are systematically treated,described and *** burdigalensis belongs to the *** group,and Assilina placentula belongs to the group of Assilina *** assumption is based on qualitative morphology and quantitative *** species,together with Operculina libyca Schwager,1883,enable the assignment of the Bir Dakhl(D5-40 Section)to the Early Eocene,Ypresian(SBZ10 of Serra-Kiel et al.,1998)supporting an earlier opinion that Assilina placentula belongs to that zone in the calibrated larger foraminiferal biostratigraphic zonation.

Comparative studies for the fractional optimal control in transmission dynamics of West nile virus

In this paper, optimal control for a novel West nile virus (WnV) model of fractional order derivative is presented. The proposed model is governed by a system of fractional differential equations (FDEs), where the fractional derivative is defined in the Caputo sense. An optimal control problem is formulated and studied theoretically using the Pontryagin maximum principle. Two numerical methods are used to study the fractional-order optimal control problem. The methods are, the iterative optimal control method (OCM) and the generalized Euler method (GEM). Positivity, boundedness and convergence of the IOCM are studied. Comparative studies between the proposed methods are implemented, it is found that the IOCM is better than the GEM.

The feasibility of using n,n,n＇,n＇-tetra（2-ethylhexyl）diglycolamide （TEHDGA） in 75 vol.% n-dodecane-25 vol.% n-octanol as agents for the extraction and separation ofnd（III）, Sm（III）, Dy（llI）, Fe（III）, ni（II）, and Cs（I） from concentrated chlo- ride solution was investigated. Different extraction behaviors were obtained towards rare earth elements （REE） studied and Fe（IIl）, ni（II） and Cs（I）. Efficient separation of nd（III）, Sm（III） and Dy（III） from Fe（III）, ni（II）, and Cs（I） was achieved by TEHDGA, depending on the HCI, HnO3 or H2SO4 concentration. A systematic investigation was carried out on the detailed extraction prop- erties of nd（III）, Sm（III）, and Dy（III） with TEHDGA from chloride media. The IR spectra of the extracted species were investi- gated.

Effect of interlayer anions on chromium removal using Mg–Al layered double hydroxides:Kinetic,equilibrium and thermodynamic studies

The influence of interlayer anions such as nO3-, SO42-and Cl-on Mg–Al hydrotalcites for Cr(VI) removal from aqueous solution was studied. The structure of the prepared LDHs was characterized by XRD, SEM, FTIR, TGA, BET surface area and p Hzpc. The sorbent ability and sorption mechanisms were also investigated. The LDHs exhibit high removal for Cr(VI), and the sorbed amount depends on the nature of interlayer anion, which decreased in the following order: nO3-n Cl-n SO42-. nitrate-containing LDH reached a Cr(VI) sorption equilibrium within only 30 min. The effects of operating conditions, including initial concentration, solution p H, agitation time and sorbent amount have been studied in batch mode. The optimum conditions were observed at an initial concentration of 100 mg·L-1, p H = 6, agitation time of 60 min and a sorbent dose of 2 g·L-1. The equilibrium data were fitted to the Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubinin–Radushkevich isotherm models. The Langmuir model was found to sufficiently describe the sorption process, offering a maximum sorption capacity of 71.91 mg·g-1. The sorption kinetic follows pseudo-second-order reaction with high accuracy. Thermodynamic parameters suggested that the sorption process is spontaneous and endothermic in nature.

Introduction: Our study focused on the evaluation of renal function in children with sickle cell disease compared to children without sickle cell disease at the pediatric emergency unit of the Donka national Hospital and SOS Drepano-Guinea center. Patients and Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive and analytical study lasting 3 months (October 1 to December 31, 2020). Were included, all sickle cell and non-sickle cell children aged 0 to 15 received on an outpatient basis and had undergone an exploration of renal function (serum creatinine and urine dipstick). Results: We performed the urine dipstick and serum creatinine in 75 children, 45 of whom were sickle cell and 30 were not sickle cell. 27 of our patients or 36% had a reduction in GFR, among them 9 or 20% were sickle cell and 18 or 60% were not sickle cell. The most affected age group was 5 to 9 years in sickle cell (66.7%) and non-sickle cell (38.9%). In sickle cell patients, 9 cases (100%) had mild renal failure (IRL). non-sickle cell patients, had 14 cases or 77.8% of IRL and 4 cases (22.2%) of moderate IR. Sickle cell disease and antibiotics which had the respective p-value (0.01);(0.02), were statistically significant with the onset of renal failure. Conclusion: Several factors including sickle cell anemia and antibiotics are believed to be involved in lowering GFR. It would be essential to detect early the children received in consultation.
