Consumers hesitate to purchase field-grown shoot-tops of amaranths in Sri Lanka,citing the low-cleanliness making growers focus on greenhouse ***,the photosynthetic and growth variations in relation to the organoleptic preference of the greenhouse-grown amaranths in comparison to field-grown counterparts have not been ***,the species delimits of the amaranths in Sri Lanka have not been identified,limiting our ability to interpret species-specific production ***,we assessed the common types of amaranths under greenhouse and field *** photosynthesis was measured using a MultispeQ device of the PhotosynQ phenomic platform,which records chlorophyll fluorescence-based *** shoot-tops were harvested and prepared as dishes according to the typical recipe for amaranths in Sri *** dishes were subjected to an organoleptic assessment for the parameters color,aroma,bitterness,texture,and overall *** differences in plant and the shoot-top biomass were also *** markers atpB-rbcL,matk-trnT,and iTS were used to define the species *** field-grown and greenhouse-grown amaranths exhibited species/cultivar-specific photosynthetic *** texture and overall taste of the dishes were different among greenhouse and field-grown *** tasters preferred the texture and the overall taste of the greenhouse-grown *** greenhouse-grown plants also yielded higher shoot-top harvests compared to field-grown *** of the tested markers,iTS defines the delimits of amaranth *** higher organoleptic preference,the appreciable yield levels,unique photosynthetic patterns of the greenhouse-grown amaranths,and species definitions provide the much-needed platform for clean shoot-top production guaranteeing the highest end-user trust.

This paper investigates the effects of the physical properties on the microstructure and weldability of explosive welding by joining two metals with a significant contrast in thermophysical properties:stainless steel and *** welds between stainless steel and copper were obtained,and the interfacial morphology was wavy,regardless of the position of the *** weldability of dissimilar pairs was found to be more dependent on the relationship between the physical properties of the base materials than on the absolute value of the material *** there is a significant difference in thermal conductivity between the flyer and the base plate,together with a material with a low melting temperature,the weldability of the pair is often *** relative position of the plates affects the interfacial microstructure even when similar morphologies are *** the metallic pairs studied,the wave size was bigger for the configuration in which the ratio between the density of the flyer and the density of the base plate is *** same phenomenon was observed for the impedance:bigger waves were found for a smaller ratio between the impedance of the flyer and the impedance of the base plate.

Use of groundwater flow model in the analysis of a creeping landslide in western Japan

To predict the movement of an existing creeping landslide, monitoring and analysis of hydrological parameters are crucial This paper analyses the hydrological parameters of an existing creeping landslide site in western Japan. The groundwater flow and resulting fluctuation in pore water pressure at the slip layer of a sliding block was simulated using a groundwater flow model. A quasithree-dimensional factor of safety of the block was obtained by combining the groundwater model with slope stability analysis methods. The results show that for prediction purposes at a creeping landslide site the time series analysis using longterm data is of limited use, because the fluctuations of ground surface movement and hydrological parameters are not completely synchronized when the factor of safety of the slope soil is in the creep movement range. The ground surface movement rate dropped after each episode of relatively big movement, even when the hydrological parameters were constant. The factor of safety of the sliding block was more influenced by groundwater recharge from the hills than by rainfall. Pore water pressure fluctuation obtained from groundwater flow model resulting from specific rainfall events indicated better relations between fluctuations in pore water pressure and ground surface movement.

Extension/Compression-Controlled Complete Band Gaps in 2D Chiral Square-Lattice-Like Structures

Achieving tunable band gaps in a structure by external stimuli is of great importance in acoustic applications. This paper aims to investigate the tunability of band gaps in square-lattice-like elastic periodic structures that are usually not featured with notable band gaps. Endowed with chirality, the periodic structures here are able to undergo imperfection-insensitive large deformation under extension or compression. The influences of geometric parameters on band gaps are discussed via the nonlinear finite element method. it is shown that the band gaps in such structures with curved beams can be very rich and, more importantly, can be efficiently and robustly tuned by applying appropriate mechanical loadings without inducing buckling. As expected, geometry plays a more significant role than material nonlinearity does in the evolution of band gaps. The dynamic tunability of band gaps through mechanical loading is further studied. results show that closing, opening, and shifting of band gaps can be realized by exerting real-time global extension or compression on the structure. The proposed periodic structure with well-designed chiral symmetry can be useful in the design of particular acoustic devices.

Quantum dynamics of charge transfer on the one-dimensional lattice:Wave packet spreading and recurrence

The wave function temporal evolution on the one-dimensional （iD） lattice is considered in the tight-binding approxi- mation. The lattice consists of n equal sites and one impurity site （donor）. The donor differs from other lattice sites by the on-site electron energy E and the intersite coupling C. The moving wave packet is formed from the wave function initially localized on the donor. The exact solution for the wave packet velocity and the shape is derived at different values E and C. The velocity has the maximal possible group velocity v = 2. The wave packet width grows with time -t1/3 and its amplitude decreases ,- t-1/3. The wave packet reflects multiply from the lattice ends. Analytical expressions for the wave packet front propagation and recurrence are in good agreement with numeric simulations.

Flow reversal of Fully-Developed Mixed MhD Convection in Vertical Channels

The present analysis is concerned with flow reversal phenomena of the fully-developed laminar combined free and forced MhD convection in a vertical parallel-plate channel. The effect of viscous dissipation is taken into account. Flow reversal adjacent to the cold （or hot） wall is found to exist within the channel as Gr/re is above （or below） a threshold value. Parameter zones for the occurrence of reversed flow are presented.

First-principles approaches have been successful in solving many-body hamiltonians for real materials to an extent when correlations are weak or *** the electronic correlations become stronger often embedding methods based on first-principles approaches are used to better treat the correlations by solving a suitably chosen many-body hamiltonian with a higher level *** success of such embedding theories,often referred to as second-principles,is commonly measured by the quality of self-energy E which is either a function of energy or momentum or ***,E should,in principle,also modify the electronic eigenfunctions and thus change the real space charge *** such practices are not prevalent,some works that use embedding techniques do take into account these *** such cases,choice of partitioning,of the parameters defining the correlated hamiltonian,of double-counting corrections,and the adequacy of low-level hamiltonian hosting the correlated subspace hinder a systematic and unambiguous understanding of such ***,for a large variety of correlated systems,strong correlations are largely confined to the charge *** an adequate non local low-order theory is important,and the high-order local correlations embedding contributes become *** we study the impact of charge self-consistency within two example cases,TiSez and CrBrs,and show how real space charge re-distribution due to correlation effects taken *** within a first-principles Green's function-based many-body perturbative approach is key in driving qualitative changes to the final electronic structure of these materials.

Five-Dimensional Cosmological Model with Variable G and A

Einstein＇s field equations with C and A both varying with time are considered in the presence of a perfect fluid for five-dimensional cosmological model in a way which conserves the energy momentum tensor of the matter content. Several sets of explicit solutions in the five-dimensional Kaluza-Klein type cosmological models with variable G and A are obtained. The diminishment of extra dimension with the evolution of the universe for the five-dimensional model is exhibited. The physical properties of the models are examined.
