neuromuscular trunk activation patterns in back pain patients during one-handed lifting

AIM To analyze neuromuscular activity patterns of the trunk in healthy controls(H) and back pain patients(BPP) during one-handed lifting of light to heavy loads. METHODS After assessment of back pain(graded chronic pain scale according to von Korff) all subjects(n = 43) performed a warm-up(treadmill walking). next, subjects were instructed to lift 3 × a 20 kg weight placed in front of them(with both hand) onto a table(height: 0.75 m). Subsequently, all subjects lifted with one hand(left-side, 3 repetitions) a weight of 1 kg(light), 10 kg(middle) and 20 kg(heavy) in random order from the ground up onto the table left of them. Trunk muscle activity was assessed with a 12-lead EMG(6 ventral/6 dorsal muscles; 4000 Hz). EMG-RMS(%) was averaged over the 3 repetitions and analyzed for the whole one-handed lifting cycle, then normalized to RMS of the two-handed lifting. Additionally, the mean(normalized) EMG-RMS of four trunk areas [right/left ventral area(VR/VL); right/left dorsal area(DR/DL)] was calculated. Data were analyzed descriptively(mean ± SD) followed by student's t-test comparing H and BPP(α = 0.05). With respect to the unequal distribution of subjects in H and BPP, a matched-group analysis was conducted. Seven healthy controls were gender- and age-matched(group H_(matched)) to the 7 BPP. In addition, task failure was calculated and compared between H/H_(matched) vs BPP using χ~2. RESULTS Seven subjects(3m/4f; 32 ± 7 years; 171 ± 7 cm; 65 ± 11 kg) were assigned to BPP(pain grade ≥ 2) and 36(13m/23f; 28 ± 8 years; 174 ± 10 cm; 71 ± 12 kg) to H(pain grade ≤ 1). H and BPP did not differ significantly in anthropometrics(P > 0.05). All subjects were able to lift the light and middle loads, but 57% of BPP and 22% of H were not able to lift the heavy load(all women). χ~2 analysis revealed statistically significant differences in task failure between H vs BPP(P = 0.03). A Randomized Controlled Trial of Mindfulness in Recovery from Colorectal Cancer

Objective:This study examined whether a 4-week group-based mindfulness intervention would be superior in reducing psychological distress in colorectal cancer(CRC)patients compared to a psychoeducation and cognitive behavioural skills learning support active control ***:Patients with CRC were randomized via Computerised Permuted Block Randomisation to mindfulness or active control groups(2-h weekly sessions over 4 weeks).Outcomes were measured pre-intervention,and 8 weeks and 6 months *** primary outcome was psychological distress measured by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression *** outcomes were generic quality of life(QoL),disease specific QoL,mindfulness,and intervention credibility and ***:Sixty-eight participants were randomized to mindfulness(n=35)or active control group(n=33).Uptake of potentially eligible patients consenting was low(28.0%)and the dropout rate was 33.8%.Depression scores were reduced in both groups at week 8(P=0.020).Control participants had greater improvement in generic mental QoL scores at week 8 than mindfulness(P=0.023).In disease specific QoL,there was reduction in impotence symptom in the mindfulness group(P=0.022)and reduction in faecal incontinence in the control group(P=0.019).The embarrassment symptom had a significantly lower increase in the mindfulness group at week 8 compared to the control group(P=0.009).Both groups rated the treatments as credible and ***:Mindfulness was not superior to the active control group in terms of alleviating psychological distress but both treatments were associated with some improvements in *** was low uptake of both interventions.(Trial registration number:ACTRn12616001033437)

利用基于Monteith光能利用率理论的碳通量估算模型C- FIX,1km分辨率逐旬SPOT/ VEGETATIOn遥感数据和全球1.5°×1.5°格网化逐日气象数据,估算了2 0 0 2年中国西部地区植被净初级生产力(nPP)。对西部地区植被nPP的空间分布格局、季节变化及不同土地利用类型植被的nPP总量和平均生产力水平进行了初步研究。结果表明:2 0 0 2年我国西部地区植被年nPP总量约为0 .96 Pg C(1Pg=10 1 5g)。西部地区年nPP空间分布基本格局是东南和西北两区域高,然后以东南西北方向为轴心逐渐向内陆中心迅速递减,该分布格局与各区域的水热条件差异和植被类型的地带性分异规律紧密相关。西部地区陆地生态系统nPP具有显著的季相变化规律,这与温度、降水的季节变化以及人为生产活动安排有很高的相关性。西部地区尽管土地面积广阔,由于区域气候和自然条件相对恶劣,导致土地资源可利用率差,生态系统整体生产力水平相对低下,区域内各种土地利用类型植被的生产力水平差异大且空间分布十分不均衡,是我国生态环境相对脆弱的区域。

This study is a re-assessment of basidiolichen diversity in the Galapagos *** present a molecular phylogenetic analysis,based on 92 specimens from Galapagos,using two nuclear ribosomal DnA markers(ITS and nuLSU).We also re-examined the morphology and anatomy of all sequenced *** molecular results confirm our previous assessment that all Galapagos basidiolichens belong to the Dictyonema clade,which in Galapagos is represented by four genera:Acantholichen,Cora,Cyphellostereum,and *** species previously reported from Galapagos in these genera were at the time believed to represent widely distributed *** conclusion,however,has changed with the inclusion of molecular *** almost the same number of species is distinguished,the phylogenetic data now suggest that all are restricted to the Galapagos *** them,six species are proposed here as new to science,namely Cora galapagoensis,Cyphellostereum unoquinoum,Dictyonema barbatum,***,***,and ***;and four species have already been described previously,namely Acantholichen galapagoensis,Cora santacruzensis,Dictyonema pectinatum,and ***,here recombined as Cyphellostereum *** analysis is set on a very broad phylogenetic framework,which includes a large number of specimens(n=826)mainly from Central and South America,and therefore strongly suggests an unusually high level of endemism previously not *** analysis also shows that the closest relatives of half of the basidiolichens now found in Galapagos are from mainland Ecuador,implying that they reached the islands through the shortest route,with all species arriving on the islands through independent colonization events.

Platelet-rich plasma for muscle injuries: A systematic review of the basic science literature

BACKGROUnD Platelet-rich plasma(PRP) is an increasingly used biologic adjunct for muscle injuries, as it is thought to expedite healing. Despite its widespread use, little is known regarding the mechanisms by which PRP produces its efficacious effects in some *** To clarify the effects of PRP on muscular pathologies at the cellular and tissue levels by evaluating the basic science *** A systematic review of PubMed/MEDLInE and EMBASE databases was performed using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and MetaAnalyses(PRISMA) guidelines and checklist. Level III in vivo and in vitro studies examining PRP effects on muscles, myocytes and/or myoblasts were eligible for inclusion. Extracted data included PRP preparation methods and study *** Twenty-three studies were included(15 in vivo, 6 in vitro, 2 in vitro/in vivo). Only one reported a complete PRP cytology(platelets, and red and white blood cell counts). Five in vitro studies reported increased cellular proliferation, four reported increased gene expression, and three reported increased cellular differentiation. Five in vivo studies reported increased gene expression, three reported superior muscle regeneration, and seven reported improved histological quality of muscular *** The basic science literature on the use of PRP in muscle pathology demonstrates that PRP treatment confers several potentially beneficial effects on healing in comparison to controls. The~790 ka Australasian(micro)tektite strewn field is one of the most recent and best-known examples of impact ejecta emplacement as the result of a large-scale cratering event across a considerable part of Earth's surface(>10%in area).The Australasian strewn field is characterized by a tri-lobe pattern consisting of a large central distribution lobe,and two smaller side lobes extending to the west and ***,we report on the discovery of microtektite-like particles in sedimentary traps,containing abundant micrometeorite material,in the Sør Rondane Mountain(SRM)range of East *** thirty-three glassy particles display a characteristic pale yellowcolor and are predominantly spherical in shape,except for a single dumbbell-shaped *** vitreous spherules range in size from220 to 570μm,with an average diameter of~370μ*** compares relatively well with the size distribution(75–778μm)of Australasian microtektites previously recovered from the TransantarcticMountains(TAM)and located ca.2500–3000 km fromthe *** addition,the chemical composition of the SRM particles exhibits limited variation and is nearly identical to the‘normal-type’(i.e.,nd nd isotope systematics for a single batch of SRM particles(n=26)strongly support their affiliation with TAMmicrotektites and the Australasian tektite strewn field in ***,Sr isotope ratios and nd model ages suggest that the target material of the SRM particles was composed of a plagioclase-or carbonate-rich lithology derived from a Paleo-or Mesoproterozoic crustal *** affiliation to the Australasian strewn field requires long-range transportation,with estimated great circle distances of ca.11,600 km from the hypothetical source crater,provided transportation occurred along the central distribution *** is in agreement with the observations made for the Australasian microtektites recovered from Victoria Land(ca.11,000 km)and Larkman nunatak(ca.12,000 km),w

Flip-chip-type high- T_c gradiometer for biomagnetic measurements in unshielded environment

The coupling coefficient between the flux transformer and the planar gradiometer is 0.18. The transformer increases effectively the resolution of the gradiometer. A magnetic field gradient resolution of 73 fT.cm-1.Hz-1/2 in the white region and 596 fT.cm-1Hz-1/2 at 1 Hz has been obtained. High quality magnetocardiogram signals have been successfully measured by using this flip-chip-type gradiometer in an unshielded environment.

Changes in higher order aberrations after central corneal regularization-a comparative two-year analysis of a semiautomated topography-guided photorefractive keratectomy combined with corneal cross-linking
