BACKGROUnD Indications to refer patients with cirrhosis for liver transplant evaluation(LTE)include hepatic decompensation or a model for end stage liver disease(MELDna)score≥*** studies have evaluated how delaying referral beyond these criteria affects patient *** To evaluate clinical characteristics of patients undergoing inpatient LTE and to assess the effects of delayed LTE on patient outcomes(death,transplantation).METHODS This is a single center retrospective cohort study assessing all patients undergoing inpatient LTE(n=159)at a large quaternary care and liver transplant center between 10/23/2017-7/31/*** referral was defined as having prior indication(decompensation,MELD-na≥15)for LTE without *** referral was defined as referrals made within 3 mo of having an indication based on practice *** regression and Cox Hazard Regression were used to evaluate the relationship between delayed referral and patient *** Many patients who require expedited inpatient LTE had delayed *** regarding transplant candidacy were a leading cause of delayed ***,delayed referrals negatively affected overall patient outcome and an independent predictor of both death and not receiving a *** referral was associated with a 2.5 hazard risk of *** Beyond initial access to an liver transplant(LT)center,delaying LTE increases risk of death and reduces risk of LT in patients with chronic liver *** is substantial opportunity to increase the percentage of patients undergoing LTE when first clinically *** is crucial for providers to remain informed about the latest guidelines on liver transplant candidacy and the transplant referral process.

Porphyrins are pigments produced in most animal cells during the synthesis of heme,but their importance for external coloration is ***(Order Strigiformes)are among the few animals that accumulate porphyrins in the integument,where it could serve as a means of *** we hypothesized that the porphyrin content of feathers may depend on body condition and breeding site quality in Eurasian eagle owl(Bubo bubo)fledglings and,thus,constitute amplifiers of the quality of the area where they are *** high-performance liquid chromatography,we found 2 porphyrins(protoporphyrin IX and coproporphyrin III)in the body feathers of 19 eagle owl fledglings from 7 breeding *** III,but not protoporphyrin IX feather concentration,was positively associated with the body mass of fledglings and with the quality of the breeding sites where they were reared with respect to food quality and *** coproporphyrin III is produced under oxidative stress,we suggest that good breeding sites may lead to fledglings in good ***,in turn,may make fledglings induce a certain level of free radical and coproporphyrin III production to signal to conspecifics their site-mediated capacity to cope with oxidative *** is the first time that porphyrin content in the integument has been found to be related to individual quality,opening a new scenario for studying evolution of animal coloration.

Factors affecting the accumulation of 9-methoxycanthin-6-one in callus cultures of Eurycoma longifolia

A study was conducted to improve 9-methoxycanthin-6-one productivity （potential anti-tumour compound） from callus cultures of Emycorna longifolia （Tongkat All）. Several factors affecting 9-methoxycanthin-6-one production in callus cultures such as different medium compositions and physical factors were investigated and analyzed. Results show that a higher production of 9-methoxycanthin-6-one （3.84 mg-g-1 DW （Dry Weight）） is obtained from callus cultured in 1/4 MS basal media. At fructose of 2% （w/v）, the production of 9-methoxycanthin-6-one （4.59 mgg-1DW） is promoted to gain the highest yield, compared to other carbon sources tested. The addition of 2.0-mg·L^-1 dicamba also increases 9-methoxycanthin-6-one production （12.3 mg·g^-1 DW）. Higher production of 9-methoxycanthin-6-one was obtained at pH 5.5 （1.53 mg·g^-1 DW）. Production of 9-methoxycanthin-6-one （2.34 mg-g^-1 DW） in callus cultures is also increased when the medium is added with 1×10 ^-1μM phenylalanine. This study suggests that the successful production of 9-methoxycanthin-6-one in vitro cultures has a potential in large-scale production using bioreactor technology.

A new cryptand/paraquat [2]pseudorotaxane

A new cryptand/paraquat [2]pseudorotaxane and its crown ether analog were synthesized and characterized by proton nMR, mass spectrometry, and single crystal X-ray analysis. The Job plots based on proton nMR data demonstrated that both the complex between cryptand 1 and paraquat derivative 2a and the complex between bis(p-phenylene)-34-crown-10 (3) and paraquat derivative 2b have 1:1 stoichiometry in solution. The apparent association constants (Ka,exp) of 1·2a and 3·2b calculated for 1:1 complexes were 1.4 (±0.2) × 104 and 4.7 (± 0.5) × 102 M-1, respectively. X-ray analysis showed that 1·2a is stabilized by ten hydrogen bonds and face-to-face π-stacking interactions in the solid state, while 3·2b is stabilized by four hydrogen bonds and face-to-face π-stacking interactions. As well as in the X-ray structure of 1·2c, a water molecule acts as a hydrogen bridge between the β-pyridinium protons of 2a and the ether oxygen atoms of 1 in 1·2a. The successful preparation of 1·2a demonstrated that the tert-butyl group is not big enough to be a stopper for rotaxanes based on 1.

Meckel's diverticulum diagnosis by video capsule endoscopy: A case report and review of literature

BACKGROUnD Meckel's diverticulum(MD) occurs predominantly in children and adolescents. It is rarely diagnosed in adults. Preoperative diagnosis is difficult due to low sensitivity of the radiological imaging studies. The role of video capsule endoscopy(VCE) in the diagnosis of MD is unknown, and the endoscopic patterns are not defined. We will describe four of our cases of MD evaluated with VCE and make a review of the literature focusing on the endoscopic *** SUMMARY We present four cases of MD confirmed by surgery. They were all adult males with ages going from 18 to 50 years, referred to our service from 2004 to 2018, due to obscure gastrointestinal bleeding(OGIB). Theyhad a history of 1 mo to 10 years of overt and occult bleeding episodes. Laboratory blood test showed an iron-deficiency anemia from 4 to 9 g/dL of hemoglobin that required multiple hospitalizations and blood transfusions in all cases. Repeated upper digestive endoscopies and colonoscopies were negative. Small bowel was examined with VCE, which revealed double lumen images in all cases, one with polyps and three with circumferential ulcers in the diverticulum. However, based on VCE findings, preoperative diagnosis of MD was suggested only in two patients. Capsule was retained in one patient, which was recovered with surgery. The anatomopathological report revealed ulcerated ectopic gastric mucosa in all *** VCE is useful for the diagnosis of MD. However, endoscopic characteristics must be recognized in order to establish preoperative diagnosis.

In this paper, a system of fractional differential equations that model the synchronized bioluminescence behavior of a set of fireflies put on two spatial arrangements is presented; the alternative representation of these equations contains fractional operators of Liouville–Caputo type. The objective of the model is to qualitatively recover synchronization and show that it is persistent. It is shown that the effort made by each firefly glow changes with respect to the number of male competitors and the distance between them. The conditions on biological parameters are interpreted.

Taxonomic placement of genera have been changing rapidly as taxonomists widely use DnA sequence data in phylogenetic and evolutionary studies. It is essential to update existing databases/outlines based on recent studies, since thesesources are widely used as a foundation for other research. In this outline, we merge both asexual and sexual genera intoone outline. The phylum Ascomycota comprises of three subphyla viz. Pezizomycotina (including 13 classes, 124 ordersand 507 families), Saccharomycotina (including one class, one order and 13 families) and Taphrinomycotina (five classes,five orders and six families). Approximately, 6600 genera have been listed under different taxonomic ranks includingauxiliary (intermediate) taxonomic ranks.
